Greens were good, rest of the course is horrible
Lots of bare spots, had many lies on bare dirt, sparse grass near the greens. Bunkers we're not raked and have very soft sand, resembles beach sand, hard to hit good sand shots with those bunkers. Tee boxes uneven and not much grass. A great layout, conditions were just terrible with exception of greens which were very nice and fairly fast.

Played Eagle Crest on 9/25/2016. I have played here many times over the past 15 years, I have always enjoyed the layout. The conditions are abysmal right now. the course is not playable in my opinion, not sure why they are even open. Our group walked off after 9 holes as well as the group in front of us did. There is hardly any grass anywhere on the course, where there is grass it is very sparse and spotty. Many areas that used to have grass are now completely bare dirt. The only redeeming factor is the greens were good but very, very slow and hard. I hope they can somehow turn this place around, but I won't be playing it again in the condition it is in now.

Played here 4/24/2015. Greens are still healing up after being punched a few weeks ago. A little slow and a bit bumpy still. Great layout and always a fun course. Keep it in the fairway to score here - duh. Pay attention to where you are aiming off the tee boxes, the course has a lot of risk reward holes with a few split fairways - driver is not always the best choice on the 4's and 5's here. Good value and friendly staff. Practice area is fantastic

Played here on 4/25/2015 with a group. Always a great place to play and a good value. Greens were recently punched so they were still a bit slower that normal but they rolled pretty good - very playable. The course is in very good condition, bunkers have a lot of thick, soft sand a bit too much for my taste but they were consistent and not lacking sand anywhere I saw. Staff was friendly. First green has had problems in the past and is a bit patched up but no problems there, the good news is that it is getting better. Great layout, very good conditions, great views! Challenging course but not unfair or tricked up - ok, except the bunker in the middle of the par 3 7th, I still don't understand why that bunker needs to be there.

I only eat about 2 or 3 hot dogs a year so I am by no means a hot dog connoisseur, but the dogs here are great. The nice lady that runs the snack bar had the outdoor bbq going before we teed off. I took a mental note and decided I would get a dog at the turn if I was hungry. She grills the buns, the dogs were tasty and juicy. They have mustard and ketchup in bottles, as well as onions and relish available so it was nice not to have to try to squeeze that stuff out of those messy little packets. That was the highlight of my round.

The course has improved a bit from the last time I played it a year ago. The bunkers have been re-done and are in top notch shape. The greens were pretty fast, a few of the greens had some disease with some bare spots to deal with. Fairways and tee boxes were average with a few bare spots, rough was uneven.

Overall, a decent track and challenging but in poor to fair shape. The value is decent though. Pace was slow 4:45. Don't forget to save room for a hot dog at the turn

The Good
First time playing here on 12/29/2014. I really enjoyed the layout. Very scenic with a few elevated tee boxes. It is a one of a kind golf course that winds through a quarry. The course was in very good shape and the greens were fantastic. Lots of risk reward holes, I never felt like any of the holes were tricked up.
The Bad
There was a frost delay so we started 1.5 hrs late. The pace was slow - 5 hour round. I didn't see any Marshals out on the course to help push things along, not sure if there were any out there or not. I know with the frost delay, they were keeping the carts off the course so that may have contributed to the slow play. After reading other reviews, it seems like a 5 hour round here is not out of the norm?
The Ugly
The bunkers have little to no sand, mostly hard pan with a light sprinkling of sand mixed with rock. The tee markers were not anywhere close to the actual yardage markers for the specified tees, the blue tee markers(rocks) were placed near or in front of the white yardage markers, the white tee markers were playing to the red yardage. Not sure if this was due to reseeding of the tee boxes or if they are trying to speed up play. Driving range was ok, there was little grass, but at least they don't have mats.
Will I be back? Yep, staff was friendly, breakfast at the clubhouse was decent, layout is fantastic and overall condition was good.

The conditions here are immaculate. As good if not better that any high end public course in Palm Springs or Scottsdale. Really, just perfect from tee to green. Driving range is fun as well with some nice little greens for target practice. The fairways are fairly generous but there are lots of fairway and green side bunkers out there so course management will go a long way to determine your score. Greens have lots of undulations, so you have some work to do when you get to the green. Greens were pretty fast and fairly hard but held the ball quite well. Great scenery and friendly staff. My only complaint would be the bunkers were a bit soft for my taste. Overall a fantastic golf course and perfect conditions

Played here 3/23/2014. The greens are in fantastic shape, The best of any public course in San Diego County - in my humble opinion. The rest of the course is in good shape as well. It is greened up, no complaints about any bare lies. Great value, tough course, good food at the snack bar. Overall great experience. My only complaint would be the mats at the driving range - some of them were ok and some just need to be replaced.
