Played here this past Saturday and was pleasantly surprised by the conditions. This course has definitely benefitted from all the rain earlier this year. We teed off about 15 minutes late and were expecting a slow round. POP ended up at 5 hours with 2 groups backed up on 5-6 holes.

At $48 to walk, $64 to ride, I am slowly coming to terms with this becoming the "normal" price for a muni course.

Overall, a decent experience. Just expect a 5 hour round on the weekends.

Played here for the first time a few weeks ago on a Saturday. Buddy was able to book a 8:15 tee time which was a miracle in its own right. We all arrived and saw the long backlog of carts on #1 tee. When my buddy went to check in, he said they were running 30 minutes behind. We ended up teeing off at 9am.

The front 9 took us 3 hours to finish. Back 9 moved a little quicker and we were able to finish in about 2 hours 20 minutes.

Conditions were a little better than expected but I think all Socal courses greatly benefitted from all the rain a few months ago.

I probably wouldn't play here again, especially on a weekend.

I have played here a few times over the years and always remembered the course being in pretty good condition and always a pretty tough challenge with very narrow fairways and lots of undulations. I played here again on Friday 3/17/23 after it rained pretty much all week and had an incredibly tough, tiring, muddy round.

Many of the holes, especially the back 9, had actual rivers running through the middle of the fairway. I'm not sure how long a course should take to drain out and be playable but several holes here were quite unplayable with the amount of water on the fairways.

I will definitely return here to play again but will definitely wait a few weeks after it rains.

Played Lakewood CC for the first time today at 10:10am. Arrived early and got a warmup bucket for $7. The range looks pretty new and in good shape with easy to see targets and yardages posted on the pillars. Mats are decent but there are not that many stalls. I'd guess maybe around 20 stalls total..

Putting green was rolling nicely at a typical muni course speed which mimicked the greens on the course fairly well.

Tee boxes were pretty good, level, not super chewed up. Fairways, the few I hit, were pretty decent as well. Bare spots were minimal and if you hit a good drive, you were rewarded with a good lie.

I was in 2 bunkers on 12 and 18. The sand was consistent in both, not fluffy but not hard pan. Dry, fairly simple to hit out of.

Greens were surprisingly good as well. They rolled smooth and although not super fast, you could easily roll a downhill putt 5-6 feet past if you're not careful.

We stopped by the snack bar at the turn and the cafe for a beer after the round and both were nice. Friendly service, decent pricing, good nachos at the cafe.

For my first experience at Lakewood CC, i was pleasantly surprised and would definitely return here. Paid about $66 to ride (Veterans day) but this course is absolutely walkable. I'd say it's a pretty good bargain to walk for ~$40.

I've played here 4 times over the past 2 months and probably will continue to play here as I've met a nice 3-some who invited me out to join them weekly.

Each time I've played has been Saturday, early AM. 7:20am, now 6:30am.

Staff is all friendly, especially the marshall.

Tee boxes: there are a lot of uneven tee boxes here. Also, due to the doglegs, a lot of people tee off with irons so they are pretty chewed up on most holes.

Fairways: Very narrow; pretty dry and thin due to the drought. Also, you will most likely have at least a few up/down/side hill lies here so be prepared for that.

Rough: not too bad or punishing but there are lots of OB areas on this course.

Greens: Healing up nicely from being punched about 5-6 weeks ago. Pretty fast and tricky. Always keep the break to burbank in mind.

$40 walking for prime time on Weekends. Pretty good players club deal here. $200/year, 5 free rounds, and then $26 (i think) to walk.

I had an opportunity to play here yesterday, 5/9/16, Monday. I drove down from LA and got to the course around noon and put my name down on the wait list for a Twilight time (2:30pm). I didn't mind waiting and preferred to save $73 ($183 regular rate vs $110 twilight).

During my wait, I practiced some putting, hit some balls at the range, bought a souvenir yardage book at the pro shop, and also had a sandwich and a beer from the makeshift snack bar.

Everyone I encountered was very friendly from the starters window to the staff in the pro shop. I heard my name get called right at 2pm and luckily I was able to get on the tee at 2:30pm. I was grouped with 3 other singles, all very nice guys from around the area.

As the prev review mentioned, #4 is playing as a 118yd par 3 and on this day, #9 was playing from the forward tees. There was one more hole that we played from the forward tees but I don't remember which hole it was.

Greens are healing from aeration about a month ago. Front 9 is much better than back 9. Back 9 is still very bumpy and putts did not roll straight.

I was in 1 fairway bunker which was nice and soft, and 1 greenside bunker which was hard and thin.

Fairways are beautiful, Rough is thick and extremely tough. Tee boxes were pretty good, mostly level, and not too chewed up.

I expected a tough course and a bad score but I really got my butt kicked bad. Normally, I'd be in the mid-80s, but this day, I humbly left with a 105. (white tees) It was still a great experience with amazing views and of course, perfect, san diego weather.

Played here this past Friday 4/25 at 11:53am for $27! I was able to book one of the super discounted tee times off the website for my dad and myself. Right after, I called the pro shop to switch my reservation to the North course as I thought they had punched the South more recently but the gentleman put his reputation on the line and said both courses are in great condition so I asked him to leave my tee time for the South. No problem!

I've played here two weeks in a row now and both times the starter office and staff have been great to deal with. Both times I started right at my tee time.

South course was in pretty good condition. Some of the fairways are a bit yellow probably due to the drought but still in good condition.

The Tee boxes were pretty good. Most were level and I didn't have any problem finding a good spot to tee off. Fairways/rough were both good as well.

Bunkers were probably the low point. I picked up a rock the size of my thumb from one of them. I did notice some brand new sand in the bunkers on the par 5 18th. Hopefully they are working their way around the course putting in new sand because some of the traps are desperately in need.

Greens were pretty smooth and well recovered from recent aerification. Not too many ball marks on them either.

Pace of Play was good. Although the new policy says 4.25 hours for the SOuth course, the clock at the 1st tee still says 4.5 hours and that's exactly what our 4 some finished in. I think 4.5 is reasonable for the South course.

Played the blue tees and shot a 10 over 84. My second best score, second to my 9 over 81 on the North course a week ago.

So far I'm loving this course and its staff/pop policy!

Played here on this past Friday morning at 7am. It was Good Friday so probably a bit busier than normal. Tried checking in early but was asked to wait until they called my name. Ended up checking in and paying at 7:00 for a 7:08 tee time so I thought we would start late but we ended up teeing off right at 7:08am.

Conditions were pretty good from tee to green. Tee boxes were level and in pretty decent shape. Fairways were fine, and greens were healing nicely from aerification a few weeks ago. Only went into 1 bunker and it was ok... could've used a bit more sand but not too bad.

Best part of this round, besides, shooting the best score of my life (81), was the pace of play. Although it wasn't the fastest round I've played, we were on a 4 hour pace up until the last few holes. Ended up finishing in 4 hours and 10 minutes.

Our group got asked to pick up the pace once around the 7th hole. We had a really fast 3 some ahead of us who we didn't see after the front 9, and a pretty quick 4-some behind us that I noticed waited a few shots. Our group was me, another single, and a 2 some. We weren't the quickest group but we still kept a decent pace.

Although the warning was a bit unnecessary (imo), it was nice to see that the course marshalls were serious about enforcing the 4hour pop policy.

I will definitely return here as long as the pop policy continues to be enforced.

Played here on Saturday morning at 6:45am which is right when the sun came up. But we were already the 6th group off as they let groups off before sunrise with lights set up on the 1st hole.

I don't normally play early but have recently been getting really sick of playing 5.5 hour rounds on Saturday afternoons. Unfortunately my buddy and I got paired with another 3-some (older guys but nice) so it still took us close to 5 hours to finish but after the front 9, there was noone ahead or behind us the entire time. I feel bad for everyone behind the group that was after us cuz they mustve been slow!

Anyways, the customer service at Brookside seems to have gotten better. I booked through GolfNow and received a voicemail confirming it a few days later. And the lady at the starters office was super nice and friendly.

Course is in ok shape. Greens were punched a few weeks ago but most holes on course #1 are healing very nicely. Some are still pretty bumpy.

Fairways are decent... there are several areas blocked off where it's just mud or dirt.

Tee boxes were a hit or miss. Some nice, lush, and level. Others were hard and impossible to stick a tee in with huge areas of missing grass.

Bunkers were surprisingly soft and had plenty of sand.

All in all, Brookside isn't usually my first choice for golf but if you can find a golfnow deal, it's not bad.

Played here yesterday for twilight. Got there around 2 and there was a wait list for twilight. Got called to check in around 2:10. Was out at the tee around 2:15 but ended up teeing off around 2:30.

Ended up passing 2 groups, both groups had noone ahead for at least 2 holes.

All in all, it took me 4 hours but if I hadn't passed the 2 groups, I might not have finished 18.

As far as course conditions, I was very surprised at how good it was. Tee boxes were better than I remember, fairways were good, just a few dry patches here and there. Didn't end up in any bunkers yesterday. Greens were decent. Could tell they had recently been punched but rolled fairly straight and quicker than I remember as well.

TONS of pitch marks on various greens. Again, i blame the d%mn korean men who dont give a crap about fixing their own divots. I fixed about 5 divots on the 17th green... and there were still about 3 divots in my way..ughh.

Finished 18 with a birdie though.

Played here on Saturday 2/22. Tough course with a huge elevation changes, pretty quick greens that can be tricky to read, and a lot of uneven lies even from the fairway.

First off, beautiful course. A lot of great views and scenery especially from the par 3's that are higher up. Driver being straight this day helped a lot. A lot of the Fairways get narrow right around 240-260 yds from blue tees.

Due to the slopes and elevation changes, there are a lot of awkward stances and uneven lies which made it pretty tough.

Also, the 63xx yards from blue tees felt a lot longer because of all the uphill shots.
Even the downhill shots, seemed to all have the wind against us.

A lot of the tee boxes were very uneven and bumpy so that sucked. Fairways were ok.

Sand was kind of grainy but decent. Greens were quick and tricky to read.

POP was about 5.5 hours starting at 10:40am, finishing around 4pm.

Played here today (8/11/13). Booked through golfnow for $38/person @ 1:32pm.

Teed off a bit late as we had to wait for a cart, maybe 10-15 minutes late.

First few holes were slowwwwww, but after getting through them, I could see why. First 2 holes are straight uphill... pretty tough.

Tee boxes were pretty decent. Some were pretty chewed up, most were ok.

Fairways were good. Some muddy areas though and for the first few holes, my ball seemed to either be in mud or on a super tight lie (like hitting off concrete).

Only went in 1 bunker on par 3 6th and there was a puddle... I moved it into the sand but took 2 shots to get out. BOO!!!

Greens were mehhh... Typical of LA muni's noone fixes their divots. Also, although they were pretty much healed up, I could tell the greens were punched recently and it was pretty bumpy on some.

Pace of play was just over 5 hours... pretty typical for this course on a weekend i think.
