Darkhorse is in very nice shape. Glad to see it after a few bad summers. Good work Empire Golf. The greens are fast and smooth. The tees are pretty beat up here and there, and the sand traps are cement, but other than that, it's great.

Pretty good shape now. Greens aren't quite back up to snuff, but will be in a week or two. Fairways are great, if a little shaggy the day we played. Hit it straight at the Ridge... there's not a lot of wiggle room!

DH is in pretty nice shape. Though, maybe a little too wet for middle of summer. The greens were a lot slower than I expect at DH, but maybe that's where they want them to increase playability. Sand looked wet and heavy, but I wasn't in any, so I don't really know.

Greens had too many ballmarks. Not cool. Tees and fairways are good.

DO is in nice shape. Greens were pretty good. Consistent, if a little slow, but rolled pretty well. Fairway and rough is fine. Nice course for a muni.

As I've said before, Darkhorse should be in better shape for the high-end price and setting. I guess they're having some financial issues, so maybe that's reflected in the course conditioning. Greens were oddly soft and slowish compared to what I'm used to at Darkhorse. The sand wasn't so good, and I got a horrible lie in one because they weren't raked. Still, it's my favorite course around here.

The Ridge is in perfect condition right now. No complaints at all. Well, other than my putting.

Black Oak is in decent shape... nice and green. Sand is fine, greens are ok, not as good as they often are, but they'll be punching next week, so they should shape up soon.

Always a fun track.

Whitney is in pretty nice shape. The fairways are brown, but this is because they've recently switched the grass to bermuda, which is dormant in the winter. However, it plays fast and smooth and holds your ball up nicely. I wish a lot of the courses around here would do the same. It might not look pretty and green, but it plays very nicely.

The greens are in perfect shape... a ball mark here and there, but fast and smooth. The sand is brand new and VERY fluffy. A little different than your usual rock hard sand traps... you can't let your club bury or the ball won't go anywhere. Tough stuff.

The guy I played with plays a lot here, and said it recently changed ownership, and that's why some of the changes are happening. So far, it's all good.

Great course.

Not too bad of shape for middle of winter. Plenty of sogginess, but that's to be expected after the rains we've had already.

Pretty smooth greens, but very soft and receptive to any shot. Fairways are ok, a lot of divots, but pretty consistant grass. Wet bunkers, not crazy thick rough.

I played in the midst of the Jack Frost tournament, so it was VERY slow, but that's to be expected in this case. Always friendly staff, and the best hot dog in town at the turn.
when it's in good shape.

Always one of my favorites.

The Ridge is in pretty nice shape right now. The greens are fast, though still showing a little of the punch they got awhile back. Fairways are nice... though they were working on the sprinkler system on 15. Sand was perfect. Rough was long enough, but didn't kill your chances of getting down the hole.

Good deals to be had if you're on their email list. I played for $35 today. Gotta love the winter rates.

The greens are nice... though soft and pretty slow. Everything else is getting pretty chopped up. The fairways and rough are shaggy. Pretty slow on Sunday afternoon... but I guess that's to be expected. Still a drag... literally.

Still though, you can't beat the price or the fun layout.

I was at Laguna Seca for a 3 day golf school. The range and practice facilities are outstanding. Great short game area, and the cliffs that surround the driving range are awe inspiring.

The golf course is fun. An old school Robert Trent Jones layout with some of the trickiest greens you've ever seen. Brad, the main teaching pro at Laguna Seca, who was our teacher for the school would read putts for us and nobody would believe him. And you need a little local knowledge for the back nine... especially 15... you don't need a driver off the tee!

Conditions were pretty good. The greens were very nice. Not blazing fast, but smooth and true. Fairways weren't totally green and lush, but nothing to affect play. Sand was deep and soft and difficult, and the tees were fine.

During the heat wave the temps at this "sunny side of the penninsula" course were in the 80s and very comfortable. We took a field trip to see Pebble Beach, and it was cloudy, foggy and really chilly.
