Tustin Ranch used to be a top ten Orange County course. Starter stated that over the years American Golf management ran it into the ground, but now that Troon manages it, they are working hard to get it back in shape. But so far, I can't see any improvement.
Start with the greens: fungus ruined them, and recovery doesn't look good. They are spotty, patchy, muddy, uneven roll and full of duck droppings (at least ten of them!) YUK. The fairways: patchy, uneven, muddy and many are cart path only, which makes for a trying day. The items at the pro shop are meager and way overpriced. The pace of play was horrendous-more than five freakin hours , to add to the misery. It's a challenging course where 30 handicappers are playing from the blues, so be prepared to bring your lunch, if not a sleeping bag.
This used to be a premium course and now it is terrible, and not worth half of what they charge for green fees. I waited a year to play Tustin Ranch and was rewarded with an awful experience, although I did birdie the #1 rated hole. Ted Robinson has got to be spinning in his grave. Save your money, time and sanity and skip Tustin Ranch.

they are aerating the greens without notice! I saved my money to play, and wouldn't you know it, I get there and the greens are being aerated! They do half a green at a time, so it's only half bad...BUT what a gyp! No postings or announcements about the aeration, so I was shocked and bummed when I found out.

Bummer- this track has to be eliminated from my places to play. For the second time in a row, my buddy and I got yakked and only got to play 14 holes-and a third of them were just going back and playing them over again. We had late morning tee time, started on ten, and by hole fourteen there were SCORES of carts in front of us. We actually counted a 16 cart back up on one of the par threes, as we were trying to turn around and start over again.
I was mad! When you pay good money (over my usual budget) and drive over thirty miles, you expect to be able to play 18 holes consecutively.
I think people who play golf badly are playing from the blue tees, which causes players to lag behind the group in front. Maybe the start times need to be spaced more as well.
Glen Ivy had a warm place in my heart, as I first came to California to open Glen Ivy Hot Springs, but now not so much, because it's cold to take peoples money and not give them a full round of golf!
PS: They have to be making jack hand over fist there, because it's so crowded. The bunkers are mostly rocks. If you want to damage your club, try a shot out of any bunker. The course has GOT to spend some money and remove that ratty rocky sand and put in something normal for the sake of all golfers there.

Played Wednesday, July 10. Course was in nice shape although for my taste, the greens could stand to roll a little more true (they are bumpy) and a little more fast ( they seemed to be about an 8 ). Some of the rough around the greens is "open"-like and quite nasty-I guess the course isn't hard enough (it is!),so you have to really concentrate while chipping.
I noticed many high cappers were teeing from the tips, which was a joke to watch, because they were ending up with doubles or worse. This course requires thought and accuracy, and length on several holes. The white tee boxes are enough to handle for anyone not in the single digits.
The new ownership rocks! They are very accommodating and are addressing the maintenance and pace of play issues. And very friendly!
If you want a true test of your game, put this course n your rotation!

I have played Anaheim Hills for over twenty-five years. It is one of my buddies faves. I don't think so-but I keep going back for him and also the hope that today is the day I'll nail it. Actually, I average 4 more shots there than any other course besides Big Canyon. Breaking down the course analytically, there are too few holes where you can see what is in front of you like which way the holes go and the greens themselves. Most every shot is blind, either to the fairway or to the greens. Five of the holes are just not right- a par 5 that has a blind two- tier green way up on a hill where just making the green at all in three shots is a feat. A par 3 240 yards downhill in which hitting the green in regulation is a less than 10% proposition even for low cappers. A par 4 that plays about 500 yards with a blind dogleg. This place is just not normal! But that said, if you take it for what it is, it is a beautiful place in the hills and oaks in Anaheim. I think I'll go back with the mindset of being pleased with the good shots I make and not be too bothered that my other good shots bounced off a cart path, hit a wire, or careened the wrong way off a hill. Think for a fun day-not a scoring day!

This whole course is under repair (fairway hydroseeding and greens recovering) and is not currently alerted! Played on October 19 and was not warned that the fairways have been tilled and it's cart path only. What was worse were the greens. It was posted on GK that the greens were dressed over a month ago. They should be fine by now, but ,noooo-they still have holes from the punches in them, and they are ultra shaggy and very slow (probably a 5) and very unlike the normal speed we usually get on Chino. Adjusting an unfair slow speed and all the bumps on the greens made for an unpleasant experience. The starter should have told us all this, and although it was only $25.00 at twilight, it's probably worth half that until the course heals, let's say in mid-November.

Always love the countryfied feeling I get when I come to Los S. The staff is super great and seems to get it-they put the customer first!
I kinda like the north over the south because it plays a few strokes easier and has more readable greens than the south, but it is a joy to play either one.
I truly suggest that unless you play in the single digits, play from the white or front tees, especially on the south. If you play the blues, count on having 185 yard plus approach shots.
What I find funny is the guy who drives it 170 yards, then has 220 to the green, waits for the green to clear, and hits it 60 yards short. I wish I never have to see that, but oh well.
Today I made the putt at the end of the round and won a free round! YAY!

Simply put, go play here today! As a part of my golf course rotation in the inland empire, Hidden Valley is my fave. This course has a perfect mix of hard and easy holes all wrapped up in a setting in which nature abounds. Deer, coyote, hawk, goose and rattlers might distract you from your mission to make that shot.
The fairways and greens are lush and well maintained. The bunkers are a little thin, but playable. Some of the tee boxes are uneven. The greens are almost perfect, save for the dings players don't fix, and roll true-my guess is that they are about a ten on the stimp, and very challenging.
I get excited as I curve around Hidden Valley Parkway when the panorama of the course comes into view- emerald jewel blankets of green set among hidden and mystifying hills.

Dos Lagos has gone through many changes, much for the better. With it's new management, I find the stff more eager to serve and their attitude welcoming. The course is in the best condition is ever has been and the greens roll pretty true. Watch for the cantalevers. Players need to fix their ballmarks. Maybe the pro shop should hand out cheap tools-would players get the message then? so no one would have an excuse!

What a great clear beautiful day August 19th was. The temp was in the low 80's and so was my score. My best golf bud and I rolled into the parking lot for an 12:30 tee time, and were jazzed to see bright green rolling fairways and a sparse parking lot.We had the whole course to ourselves! We played 36 holes in a tight match, stopping our cart at times in wonderment of the scenery, all the while no one in front or behind us. It was a pleasure to putt on evenly mowed nice looking greens, although some of the breaks are pretty tricky. TO THOSE WHO HIT THE GREENS IN REGULATION-1) the ball will not hold unless you hit it high or put some sauce on it 2) fix your ball marks-
these are "new" greens and deserve respect!
All in all, Dos Lagos is a pretty cool layout-a good mix of short and long par threes and fours. Some uphill, some downhill. 12 and 13 are really tough -can someone say AMEN?
I should write a bad reveiw in hopes that you stay away and keep that parking lot sparse, but I can't because us golfers like to share good experiences at good tracks. It is fair value for the money. One more thing-can't wait for the new double-wide clubhouse to be trucked in-perhaps we'll have indoor restrooms!
