Course itself was as you'd expect from American Golf. Mediocre.
Greens were okay - bumpy and a bit shaggy. Very inconsistent - practice green was fast, actual greens were SLOW. But - with that said, they were very receptive and you could spin the ball as desired. I like to play the one-hop and stop chip and it was definitely doing that quite a bit. Boxes (backs) were hit and miss. #1-3 were great, then came some "meh", then there were a few that looked like they were abandoned years ago (thinking #10 & 12 specifically) and are turning into a goat pasture. Didn't find any sand, but playing partners said it was hard under a very thin layer of soft stuff to make it look soft. Could have been the weather, so wouldn't hold this part against them too much.
Will definitely be back...very walkable and easy to get a bit of exercise in on. » Close Played friday 04/12 so I'll just apologize that this is a little tardy here. Course itself was in great shape. Just in time for them to close down and punch today with no discounted rates.
Fairways were in fantastic shape - maybe some of the best i've seen here in a very long time. All covered with nice green grass, mowed nicely, just finally coming together. Boxes were generally placed on flat ground and well covered. Greens were rolling smooth and true. Rough wasn't too punishing and a few areas were a little thin (10 left of the green specifically), but all in all was a well manicured course.
With that said - the one thing I wish they would pay a little more attention to - the fog. The fog was ridiculous. Could not see where you were hitting on 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 or 9. It wasn't until around 930/10 that it lifted enough to finally have a good view of where to play the ball to. Could definitely be dangerous, so they need to up their GPS game to show where the carts are (I think they tried, but it was showing us ghost carts in areas that there were no carts at all - think middle of the ditch on #6). » Close Walked this AM with a buddy and a local single. This is an extremely fun course if you can get out and get around in a reasonable time frame. Our PoP, walking was 3 hrs 40 min. We were never waiting on any shot and had a 2 some behind us (we asked a couple times if they wanted to play through) right on us the whole round.
Greens...have healed really nicely. Rolled very true and had a really good speed. Downhill you had to be careful and uphill you could give it some go. Had 7 birds today so safe to say I was feeling these greens. Only complaint (not a course complaint) just wish people would fix their ball marks.
Boxes (played the tips) were pretty decent. Only had to really look for level ground on a couple....the rest were all pretty easy to find a good spot with plenty of grass.
Fairways were in great shape. #1 had a couple spots as GUR but that's really the only issue I saw out there.
Rough (not desert/planter area)....plenty of coverage. Little long but not too punishing. Did not give you a hard time getting out of it.
Planter areas...long. good luck finding your ball. Lost a couple where we thought we saw exactly where they went. » Close Played this AM with a good buddy and a local single (pro cornhole player - really interesting). Extremely disappointed with MCC this time around...$120 bucks and they had punched and sanded (at least) the 2 9s we played. We played Canyon to Creek and every hole on both was extremely sandy. For a cloudy day, felt like I was at the beach. No mention of it, no heads up from the pro shop, and no discount on the price.
Tees were in great shape. Flat ground, nice coverage, in great shape. Fairways were perfect - lush, spongy and easy to take a divot from. Rough was not punishing but was long enough to slow your ball up and keep you in play. Bunkers were all soft with lots of sand. Felt more like the $4 dollar (now $7 - thanks inflation) playground sand from home depot than the spruce pine quartz from augusta national, but easy to get out all the same.
Love moorpark but definitely think it's pretty shady business to let the players find out on the first hole that the round will almost be unplayable - esp for a price tag that's gone up 25% in the last 2 years. » Close Played yesterday after the rains let up. Minimal standing water on the course but man there are some spots that are hurting. Half of 9's fairway is dirt and GUR.
Relatively slow day because we were behind a group of guys who were clearly playing frat boy golf. Playing from the tips, getting 2-3 beers per hole, flirting with the cart girl, etc. They were playing from the tips and watching them - shouldn't have been past the whites.
Greens were fast. Like super fast. Just in time for them to punch on Tuesday. Fairways were thin but for the most part could take a divot easily. Rough was good. Deep enough to affect you but not overly punishing. Boxes were hit and miss. Played the backs until I caught up with a group in front on 5 and played blues after that. Back were in rough shape but the blues were decent.
Definitely recommend this course but probably not for a few weeks until the green heal. » Close
