Tuesday, 5/19 I booked a last minute 2:10 start online as a single and ran over in time for most of a small bucket and teed off, playing the whites. The overall course is in solid shape. Tee boxes are pretty consistently level with good coverage. Fairways offered good lies and I don't recall any bad patches. Rough could vary, being mostly recoverable but with some thicker sections. Missed all the bunkers but stepped in one to check the sand and it was good. Not exactly groomed, but not bad overall as far as footprints, etc. Green surrounds tended to more often be on the lush side vs. thin. The greens themselves are still exhibiting the residual waffle pattern from the last aeration. Medium speed on the quick side (don't let the pattern suggest you need to putt harder) the rolls were true enough and I didn't notice any bouncing or deflection but, aesthetically, it will probably be a couple of weeks before the pattern has smoothed out. They putt better than they look and after a couple of holes, I settled into it and the visual was a not factor. As long as you know what you might be looking at, I still recommend it for play. Pace was very good on the front nine and slowed into the back nine but the net was a surprisingly speedy 3.75 hrs. The other mentionable was early in the back nine the wind came up and brought the smoke from the Simi fires. Otherwise, I was initially paired with a young couple who were unsettled they would not be playing alone. They went back the starter while I teed off but he sent them back to join me. She supposedly being a beginner, piped her drive down the middle. It was wide open ahead, so halfway down the first fairway after my second shot, I told them I'd go ahead so they could play alone, which they appreciated. Single through nine, I was joined by a twosome on the tenth and finished as a threesome, probably smelling of smoke.

If only there was a website where one could find out in advance that golf courses had punched their greens! Yeah, I was that guy. I was so shocked to find a great 11am tee time the next day for me and my buddy, I simply took it right away and never checked GK. Duh.

The greens are heavily sanded right now but much worse on the front nine. I assume they did the back nine first and the wind took some of the sand off of those holes, but I'm just guessing. It was of course not great, but I managed to adjust properly (as one must) and ended with a nice 30 putts with no three-jacks.

The fairways have good spots but I would say a greater majority (but not by much) is decent coverage but a bit thin for most's liking. It's completely playable for sure, but there was a lot of picking going on. Rough where there was grass was nice and thick, but some areas off-fairway were very dry and lots of hardpan if you're off on your shots.

Tee boxes were just okay but serviceable, while the bunkers had enough sand to be pretty good, but another layer wouldn't hurt right now. Overall things are good but shy of great. It's still a fun round and a decently engaging layout with just a few 'meh' holes (like hole 10).

POP was unbelievable - my buddy and I got paired with an older gentleman with limited movement, so he took a while with every shot, but we never waited once on a single hole, nor were we ever pushed from behind. Finished the round in 3:45 which was absolutely stunning (especially after a six-hour round last Saturday at The Friends).

Hansen remains a very serviceable round right now with some good aspects to enjoy, but of course I would most certainly give the greens some time to heal before you head over there.

Played 1-15-26 early morning for $24 walking Sr rate. Third group out playing very slow taking over 4 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were mostly level with quite a few of them having some large bare spots where you were teeing of of dirt or patching ground. Fairways were in okay shape with a mix of different grasses, some bare and thin areas, and some wet areas that haven't dried out from the rains yet. Rough was a mix of different heights ranging from thin spots to 3-4 inches and thick. Was not in any bunkers, they looked to be in okay shape, but did have a lot of unraked foot prints. Greens were not in good shape, small bare spots here and there mixed in with the most unrepaired pitch marks I think I have ever seen on almost every green. They were bumpy, rolling on the slow side, and playing semi-soft. Overall in below muni condition. With condition of course and the very slow play I would not recommend this course right now. Hopefully things will improve.

Out Friday 10/31 joining another single for a 12:30 start, playing the whites. The course is in all around good muni shape. Tees and fairways have generally good coverage and offer decent lies. Rough really varies here and immediately fairway adjacent is usually an easy play but dirt/brush/trees are often not far off. Bunkers I encountered were dry, playable and, while not especially smoothly groomed, mosty lacked footprints and signs of abuse. Green surrounds were OK for short game and the greens themselves were pretty clean, resisted pitch marks and ran a good medium pace.

As a muni, it's in solid shape and a viable option for an enjoyable round. Recommended.

Out as single joining another single and a twosome for an 11:00 start Thursday 7/24. I rode with the other single and played the whites. Overall very solid muni conditions here. Teeing grounds tend towards generous, level and grass covered. Fairways had good, green coverage, offered nice lies with reasonable rollout. Thin or burnt areas were rare. Rough is mostly green, usually not punitive but with exceptions both thicker and thinner. Missed the bunkers so I can't comment. Green surrounds were good for short shots and the greens were in good shape — generally resistant to pitch marks, clean, and ran the quick end of medium. Pace was under 4.5 hrs with some waiting, but nothing excessive. With the understanding that its northerly LA City boundary location makes it less convenient for some, I'm still surprised this course doesn't get reviewed more often. It is a solid layout that is usually in good shape with less traffic and more availability than most of its 18-hole sister courses. In its current condition, definitely recommended.

Got out onto Hansen D for a fun afternoon round.


I note the course was in reasonable to good condition for a high traffic muni. Pace of play was around 3.8 hours. I note the following conditions:


Tee Boxes: Good for an LA muni. Nice coverage and generally level.


Fairways: Green and defined from rough. Condition average for a an LA muni.


Greens: Green, medium in speed, with softness. Speed about a 9.5. Condition was good for an LA muni.


Sand: Bunkers were good with soft and heavy sand mix. Condition above average for an LA muni.


Rough: maintained and defined, about 3 – 5 inches. Condition average for an LA muni.


Again enjoyed this course. The design is flat but does offer a couple of elevation changes, and also features beautiful trees lining fairways. Service received in the pro shop and snack bar were very good.

This course is a go-to that I always seem to also enjoy. It's holding up well during this heat wave.

I played The Dam Sat 2/1. Growing up, in the SFV, I've probably played this course more than any. Been a while though. Overall, especially after the winds, I was happily surprised that it was in good muni shape. The Restaurant is open at 8*30, so early tee times bring your own... Newer carts with nice GPS & Bluetooth speakers also slow carts to a crawl near the clubhouse-Boooo. No cart service, but you pass the restaurant at the turn. Range is large, good for warm up, plenty of short game space. Tee boxes- not great, but adequate. Fairways- Decent coverage, dormant-semi dormant mix of grasses. Rough- Some areas thicker than others, mostly dormant so not very penal. Greens- Most are large. Lots of ball marks, but good muni condition. Running medium speed. Bunkers- Pretty good shape. Collars- some chewed up, most decent. The Lake near the 16th fairway has been empty (cement bottom) for a long time, ugly! POP- 4:20 teeing off at 8*20. Just right here. I recommend this LA City course, not a CC by any means, but a fun muni!

Got out here last Sunday, December 8. First thing is a sign at the pro shop warning of a temporary green on Hole 2. Apparently, some yahoo did some donuts on the green overnight. Luckily, the damage seemed to be superficial. It did make for a great attempt at eagle, though, as the temporary green was about 100 yards short of the real green. With the weather getting cooler, the course is starting to show some over watered areas on many fairways. Staying out of those areas were challenging as they were not roped off.

Greens were medium speed, soft, and had many ball marks new and old. Not really bumpy but the appearance was just okay. They did speed up as the day went on and putting downhill away from the dam is always going to be faster.

Fairways and rough were decent coverage, but the farther you get from the center the worse the conditions get.

Bunkers were okay, but there's a serious lack of raking going on here. Etiquette might be lost forever.

Tees were level and in okay condition. Some were overly wet, especially in the shade. We all played the White tees, so I can't really comment on the others, but I think there was little difference.

I like the course. I used to work as a greenskeeper here on weekends about 25-30 years ago. Like all LA City courses, this one could be better and cheaper to play. I think it was $52 weekend rate, plus $10 per player to reserve. Ouch!

Got out yesterday as a single, paired with a newbee and a Long Ball Champion! Anyway, The greens were small tined punched! They were rolling!! Fairways freshly mowed and had some roll. Tee boxes were average, only the bunkers which I wasn't in were wet sand and mostly hard pack. Little to no wind, except for the extra three ball dropped by my playing partners, lots of swinging if you know what I mean. Didn't hold up anybody behind us, so good practice for them I guess. It was a beautiful day at the Dam! Go Play!
