It's a decent track, a little steep on the green fee for what you get. Course sits under a runway approach, so getting airplanes flying over you all round., hence the name i guess: skylinks. easy walk, if you are so inclined. cart girl came around after 11am. Had a good time.

Golf has gotten expensive in the LBC. Paying $85-100 to play here is painful. Im quite familiar with this course, been playing here for 12 years, yet the place hasn't improved ever. Always just ok -- fairways are alright, rough doesn't really exist much, or is very patchy. I think basic maintenance is all that they do here. That would be fine if the cost was lower, the idea of playing here on a Saturday, taking 5.5-6 hours and paying nearly $100, frankly sucks. I'd rather pay an extra 20-50 to play a higher tier course. Mid-week, walking?, yea, I'll still do that out of nostalgia and if I need to stay close in the area (my daughter lives down there), otherwise, meh, treat yourself to someplace better.

Played on Wed 10/1 with an 11AM tee time 4some. Nice 4.5 hour pace with minimal waiting. We had 2 beginners with us who actually play pretty fast so it was pretty good.

Course is in pretty good shape considering they are punching greens in a couple days. All I can say is that the fairways and greens are super firm right now. I had some drives roll out 30-40 yards longer that my avg! Greens were super fast with tough pin locations. Tee boxes are good, fairways pretty good coverage for this time of year, sand was good, greens were rolling fast but true.

Would love to play this track more on the weekends when I usually play, but ALL the tee times between 8am and 1pm are usually already gone since LB residents can book a day in advance.

Played 8/26/25 @ 0640. Saw there wasn't a review of the course since 2024... Course is playing really nice right now. Tee boxes mostly level with the par 3s having some large divots. Fairways with great coverage, if you play in the afternoon, you will get a ton of roll after your ball lands. Rough almost non-existent, there are some soggy spots under the trees due to the over watering because of the heat. Sand traps were ok, not sure if it's dirt or a mix of sand and dirt, but try to stay out of them. Thin top layer with a hard bottom layer that will make you skull your shots. Greens were rolling nice with a few unrepaired ball marks. Greens are usually faster when playing in the afternoon. Customer service was great- quick and easy check in at the pro shop, restaurant with a good selection of alcohol to help you get through the rough rounds...

Went out today 9/17 with an old friend who works part time at this course and two of his buddies with about a 10:30 start. After not playing this course in probably at least 25 years, this is the third time I've played it with my friend in the last several months. With enough contour to be visually pleasing it is pretty level overall and a good walking course. It has its challenges but is open enough to encourage optimism and feels playable with options to go high or low on approach. Two played from the blues and two of us from the whites, and I don't recall any teeing issues all day as to coverage and being pretty level. Good start. The fairways here are generally a little wider, tighter lies and a fair amount of roll with bit of a links feel about them. They were in good shape. Rough was mostly not too punitive. I was in a few bunkers and they ranged from firm-ish but clean and playable to damp, to the point of almost mud — I observed much more good than bad from a distance. Green surrounds were good for short game but could be on the tight side. I putt from off the green numerous times. The greens themselves are in pretty nice shape with a frisky pace, as munis go. The course was busier than usual with a sluggish, but mostly steady pace to the tune of about 4.5 hours. Food in the cafe afterward was decent. Based on conditions and playability, definitely recommended.

Played last Friday at Skylinks with one friend, then somehow managed to add Mattias and one of his friends late for a fun foursome at one of the LBC's best courses. We had an afternoon tee time and were able to take off a bit early and had a very nice POP for most of the day until we hit some snags on the back nine. Course conditions at Skylinks are improved from my last visit but still not at its optimal best. The fairways are playable but don't look very nice and are still saddled with some thin areas, while the rough is not too penal at all. The bunkers are a little on the thin side while the tee boxes (we played the blues) were all just fine. Greens were running pretty nicely to the best of my recollection - nothing really stood out too much in terms of issues. Sure, there are a few with some limited damage around the edges, but for the most part they ran consistently medium-fast, held shots well and stayed true to their lines. Nothing too bad to complain about. Overall it's all just above average, but of course you're paying optimum Long Beach course prices, so it should simply be a bit better than that, but I will give them some concessions based on the very hot temperatures over the past week or two. I think some rainfall and some fall aeration will probably do this course wonders.

The greens are in great shape and it’s apparent that a lot of effort has been put in to them. There is a problem that needs to be addressed immediately. The lack of sand and hard packed dirt as they are is terrible. It’s like hitting off concrete and only seems to cause injury and damage to equipment. I think this needs attention so be aware.

Played a solo round at Skylinks this weekend after booking online with GolfNow. I knew in advance that this course won't deduct the price if you choose to walk instead of riding, so I left my cart at home and decided to ride.

When I arrived around 40 mins early for my 9:10am tee time, I asked for a medium bucket of balls and leisurely got them, found an open stall and began stretching out. As I was just about to hit my first ball, they called my name on the loudspeaker to go to the first tee. This was about 15 mins before my tee time, which is normally not an issue, but if you they knew we were going out early, why let me waste the money purchasing a bucket of balls? I also had no time time to hit the practice putting green so we were off to a poor start.

I normally really love this course but I was already in a down mood after that start, and then found the course to not be in the kind of shape that justifies premium pricing just under $100 on a Sunday morning. In good shape, no problem paying that price. But yesterday the fairways were pretty thin and had lots of dry spots, while the rough was often very thin or just mud/dirt. There were of course some good areas as well so don't think it's all a mess.

The greens were in good shape for sure so no complaints there ... they were at nice medium-fast speeds but took me a few holes (and two 3-putts) to get the speed down after not having any warmup reps. Nothing overly tricky on Skylinks greens so you get what you give. Good lines, nice coverage and holding shots well if we're being honest.

The bunkers were very disastrous though. Mostly incredibly thin and just miserable to play out of while giving every golfer there minimum confidence to make the shot. I don't ever recall the bunkers here being as poor as they are currently. Very tough pill to swallow when you're constantly finding them with every errant shot on an erratic back nine. Tee boxes were also just average or slightly above.

No cart service throughout the day which is kind of wild on a busy Father's Day Sunday, but at least there's a quick and easy snack shop at the turn. POP was really great for the first 5-6 holes as we were all alone, but we caught the group in front of us eventually and things slowed down for the rest of the round, but nothing too horrific in the end.

So overall it's tough to give Skylinks a great rating after yesterday's many disappointments, but I have no doubts that my next visit will be far better. I would just personally wait until you hear that the bunkers have been reloaded with some actual sand.

Played here on 5/24 for Long Beach Match Play tournament. It's been over 25 years since I last played here and while I recognized most of the course routing, the holes have been renovated. The last few reviews describe Skylinks as a "true links course". I have to disagree because how many links courses have hundreds of mature pine and eucalyptus trees on them? If you get off the fairway here the branches of some of these trees are fairly close to the ground, so very few hero shots can be played. Greens are large, undulating, and were very quick for the tournament, about 11.5 . Three or four Rodan style greens. Every putt seemed to go six feet by even when trying to lag. Played from the black tees which made several of the Par 3 play over 230 yards. Tee boxes were fine, fairways had ample grass, never a bad lie. Rough was spotty as were some of the fringes around the greens as the lies were tight. Sand was the only drawback as it was more like packed, wet dirt. We had a constant 10 mph wind which was noticeable mostly on the par 3's. Had to get used to the small planes flying 100' overhead on approach to landing at LB Airport next door. POP was 4:40 which is not good for teeing off at 8:00am, but it was tournament conditions, every ball in the hole , fast greens with tricky hole locations made for a lot of three putts and some four putts. Pleasantly surprised with the overall experience. Golf shop and restaurant folks were super nice and provided a great service. If these are the conditions all the time here, I'm definitely coming back!
