For my second round of the day, I chose Indian Canyons (South) based on a $65 GN hot deal rate for an 11:36 tee time. Other than getting started on the first tee, I really enjoyed my experience on this course. It's a really beautiful setting and fun layout.

With this being such a busy golf day, the starter seemed very confused and didn't have a lot of order as groups lined up on the first tee. I eventually teed off with a twosome. Their time was 11:10, but things were running late and there was some mix-ups. Another single that also had the same tee time as me ended up joining us and we teed off around 11:45. The course was crowded and the group ahead of us was playing from the black tees (they shouldn't have), so we were waiting on most shots. Still, we finished in about 4.5 hours, so it wasn't as slow as it seemed.

The course was in solid shape coming out of overseeding. Everything was green and lush, though still pretty shaggy. Not much roll out on the fairways, but they were nice to hit from with the ball sitting up nicely. Rough was green and lush, but not cut too deep, so easy to hit from. Tee boxes good all around. Bunkers OK. Not the best sand, but playable. The greens were running relatively slow and were still a little shaggy/bumpy. Once we figured out the speeds, though, we adjusted and did OK. This course should be looking and playing real nice in a few more weeks. As it is now, it looks great and plays well enough.

I really liked this course. The setting is beautiful, tucked back in the canyon with a lot of "close-up" mountain views. Very few houses around the course, which is a nice change of pace for Palm Springs. The layout is not super challenging, but I would deem it very "fair." If you hit a bad shot, you will likely be punished (trees, water hazards, bunkers, OB). If you hit a good shot, you will be rewarded. Good mix of hole lengths and designs, some fun greens that can be hard to read, but not overly tricked-out with crazy undulations. I would definitely recommend this course.
