Played Soboba on Monday 3/18, could not be more pleased with the condition of the course, among the best in the IE I have played this winter. Did an over nighter in Palm Springs, I checked prices there, but for me there was no choice, Palm Springs is so over priced. From the I10 freeway, Soboba is just about 20 minutes south of Beaumont and about $25-60 less than comparable courses in PS. Excellent value! We paid $30 for our twilight round and headed to the range($5). Can not remember the last time I hit balls off a grass range, that actually had a nice patch of grass to hit from, well done. We started a little ahead of our T time. Black for me(126 slope) T's: level and lush, no complaints. The starter said they had just had or were preparing for a collegiate tourny and greens were rolling 11-11.5 on the stimp meter. Greens:They defenitely were quick and smooth, impressive as I have noticed that IE courses are begining to slow from the blossoming Poa. Fairways: Top two I have played this winter. Sand: Beautiful white sand, I thought the sand felt firm when I walked on and dug in, Wrong! plays soft and led to a misplay. If I had my choice, this sand is what I would play out of every round. Cart girl came around more than twice, Diet Pepsi: $1. Coots: about the only negative thing to say bout the course, moderate flock size, plenty of crap next to the lakes, but not much, if any on the greens. Biggest effect was esthetic, fencing around some of the lakes. I use stereotyping all the time, all it means to me is it is more likely than not to be true until proven wrong, I am not PC and don't appologize for this. I get a kick out of it when I am wrong though. Example: on the T ahead of us were two males, two females well into their 60's. Man this is going to be a slow round, I sighed. Never saw them again until the 10th hole, when they slowed to order drinks from the cart girl. Then pow, zip they were gone again! POP: 4.5 hours, should have been less if we kept up. Highly reccomend.
