After finishing on Sky, myself and one of the other singles I played with in the morning made the jump over to Shadow, just to check it off our lists in case it closes. There was no rush as the Shadow course was pretty empty with only a few groups on it. We ultimately caught up to a twosome in front of us, but the pace was still nice under 3 hours. With the unlimited play deal we used, it was a good opportunity to play this course. Otherwise, it's not worth paying much—other than coming out one last time to pay your respects to this obviously once fantastic course : (

It was kind of depressing with this being my first time here. You can see what a great course Dye and Couples built into this canyon. On every hole, I thought to myself "this must have been spectacular back in the day." It's a super challenging layout that will test you on all levels, but fun at the same time. Shame to see what it is now and know that it probably won't be around at all much longer barring a financial miracle.

They aren't really doing much to keep up the course. The fairways are completely dead with the only patches of green throughout most of the course being weeds and wildflowers. Bunkers are very thin and obviously haven't seen any new sand in awhile. Tee boxes are pretty nasty. The one positive is that the greens are actually somewhat decent, better in fact than what you find on Sky right now. They are really firm and hard to hold, but the putting surfaces are very smooth and rolling at good speeds. We were pleasantly surprised by the greens on Shadow, but most everything else is gone.

So sad.
