Surveyor Report: 3/25/2005

Diamond Bar Golf Course is a heavily played LA Country run course managed by American Golf. Diamond Bar Golf Course has some pretty rundown facilities that certainly need upgrading but makes up for it with an exceptionally solid golf course for under $30. It’s located very close to where the 60 and 57 freeways intersect. In fact a large amount of holes border the 60 fwy which makes for a awfully noisy round and not to scenic one either. The course itself is a classic old style layout featuring some considerably long par 4’s, many reachable in two par 5’s, and a couple decent par 3’s. Like many older courses, there are lots of large mature trees to contend with and some shot shaping required off the tee. The fairways are relatively wide open with some nice doglegs, the tee shots are pretty straight forward, and the green complexes are mostly large yet not well guarded. To Diamond Bar’s credit although, the greens are by no means easy to putt. You’ll find many to have sneaky fast undulations and very challenging feel putts if your leave yourself above the hole.

The playing conditions today were for the most part good with exception to the low laying holes on the back nine which had some major drainage issues. The greens were the best part of the course as they rolled mostly smooth and fast. The bunkers also appeared in excellent shape as they contained good quality sand and were well kept. The tee boxes, fairways, and rough were generally lush but not well groomed. Many of the tee boxes had uneven footing which is typical of a course this age.

Overall, I would recommend Diamond Bar GC to any value oriented golfer.
