played front nine on 8/19, course is in bad shape. Worst condition I have seen this course in. Especially the greens. I've never seen this course in country club shape, however the greens have always been good. Not anymore. Apparently they punched the greens recently. Also, they look like they have been spray painted (I think it's fertilizer). Greens were slow, bumpy, and beat up. Fairways were average. Sand traps average to poor. Tee boxes average. Rough was probably the only thing that was average to good. They have clearly cut it down from the LB Open, but it is still 4-5 inches I think and fairly punitive. This is still a great layout in my opinion, but they gotta get the greens back in order. The course is too short to be challenging without quick greens.

PLAYED ON AUG 3RD. THE COURSE WAS IN GOOD SHAPE. NO COMPAINTS ABOUT THAT. WHAT I DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IS THE FACT THAT EARLY MORNING WALK ON'S HAVE PRIORITY OVER GROUPS THAT HAVE A RESERVED TEE TIME. WE HAD A 5:48 TEE TIME AND DID NOT TEE OFF TILL ALMOST 6:30. WE FOUND OUT FROM THE GUY ON THE FIRST TEE THAT ELDO WILL PUT OUT 4 WALK ON GROUPS BEFORE THE FIRST RESERVED TEE TIME. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THE GROUP THEY PUT IN FRONT OF US WAS ALMOST 2 HOLES BEHIND AFTER 4. THIS IS THE MOST REDICULOUS POLICY I HAVE EVER HEARD OF. WE WILL STILL PLAY ELDO BECAUSE IT IS A VERY NICE COURSE BUT SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS POLICY.

Played Saturday August 2nd - one week after the LB Open. The greens were slow and bumpy, but held shots. Bunkers were full of sand, due to LB Open, and were in excellent shape. Too bad earlier golfers did not satisfactorily rank the traps or didn't bother to rank at all. The rough was extremely difficult, especially around the greens. A full swing 60 degree wedge was the club of choice, but even then it was difficult.

The pace of play was good on the front nine as the only waits were on the par threes. The back nine backed up on number 12.

The course showed the effects of last weeks LB Open. Should be in better shape in a few weeks.

Greens are not in good condition, it appears as if they are growing them out and they have been watered unevenly. The speed is slow and very bumpy. Fairways are good and rough is deep after the Open last week

Overall a nice course and good layout. Major proble they allow fivesomes that create long waits and extremely painful slow playing conditions. Would be nice to play a reasonable round but have not in my many attempts at this course.
Worth to play if you have a full day to waste.

A tree lined course with narrow to average sized fairways. A lot of trees and thick rough. Very important to keep the ball in the fairway. Greens are in good shape and tend to be quick at times. Tee boxes are level and in good shape. Sand in bunkers is soft and good in quality. A very nice municipal course.

The course is in great shape - getting ready for next week's Long Beach Open. The rough is deep and high. When you play El Dorado this weekends, keep your golf ball on the fairway or else kiss it good bye! In the rough not easy to find the ball and between all the trees, hard to recover and return to fairway.

Played yesterday for the first time. The course is very nice for an americangolf golf course. The fairways were pretty decent, the tees were pretty nice except for a couple. The sand was very good quality, soft and white sand. The greens were decent they ran true. If you get off the fairway on many holes you can be punished by the rough and the trees. Unlike many courses, this one is very tough to recover from the trees. Overall it's a nice course.

one of my fav. muni here in socal. greens were at a decent speed and rolling true. the sand traps have improved tremendously. they're now that white super soft beach sand, which forces you to get under instead of just trying to chip the ball out. the rough has been cut so that there is now a progressive 2 cut rough (us open-esque much not as penalizing). overall just a solid track.

it's in perfect condition right now. i guess they're getting ready for the LB city championships...if you're not straight off the tee right now; it's going to be a painful round. thick rough, fast greens, great teeboxes and fairways. can't ask for much more than this from a muni.

Played on May 12, 2008 - Course was in pretty bad shape. If your game is not on, like mine was on that day, it is like playing a pinball arcade game with your golf ball as the pin.

Errant golf balls, though you can find them on adjacent fairways, tend to turn relatively short holes into double bogey nightmares.

On this course, though you may be tempted to play it this summer due to its relative proximity to Long Beach, do NOT play if your game isn't straight. It's just not worth the headache. From what I hear it is where the LB Open is played.

This is a course that really needs to work on their greens. The greens were punched at the end of March but they have not rolled them and they are very bumby. The 5 hrs for the round was ridiculous. Teeing off 25 minutes after our tee time of 7:37 am. GM didn't have a care in the world and made no effort to get tee times back on track. Wonderful golf course to play and very challenging, but the greens are something that need to be addressed, especially being one of two golf courses used for the Long Beach Open. The price is fair and makes golf very affordable for all golfers. Enjoy the layout, just don't let the greens get to you.

I thought I was in Sherwood forest with all the trees that lined this course. If you are NOT in the center of the fairway on your shot, then you will have overhanging trees to deal with. I often found myself hitting a 4 iron from 100 yds away. Other than that, it was worth the green fee and would definitely repeat.

Played last Friday. Boy do they stock up on 5-somes on this course. It was SLOW for a Friday. I mean almost 6 hours for a round of golf, I should have stayed at work. Greens were flat, ran true and very fast. Fairways were green and lush. Sand Traps were well stocked. Tee boxes were flat. Just the rough was a little thin around the water hazards making for tough lies. Should have played a lot better as my round started out well but couldn't get past the long waits on certain holes (almost 30 minutes each for Hole 9 and hole 12. It was 3 groups deep). This is a wonderful course for the money but with some many folks playing I found it really depressing as play should have moved a lot faster. Sorry but this body doesn't stop/start well. So continually stopping and starting really can play havoc with your game.

Played Super twighlight today 3/23/08.. Got away from the Easter Bbq.. I was pleasantly surprised by this course, it was definitely more challenging than Skylinks. If you are not in play in the fairways.. The course will make you pay with all the trees, it makes sense they play the LB city championship there.. The tee boxes, fairways and traps are in good shape. Lush and looking nice.. The greens on the other hand are recovering from the punching from two weeks ago.. On the front 9 the greens were quick, but on back 9 really bumpy and slow.. Overall I liked the course and would come back here again!!

I actually played this course Thursday and Friday, because it's close to my house and I'm getting to be a grumpy old man who hates to drive in traffic. Usually, El Dorado is a gooey mess after even the slightest bit of rain, and there were a few bad patches of mud scattered around the course, but not nearly as bad as in the past. The rough is a nice length. Punitive, but not so long that you can't find your ball in the trees. The greens are fantastic. The best I have ever seen them, with the only blemishes being the obligatory unfixed ball marks. This is a great course to walk, and the customer service is very professional.

It was a bit wet out from the rain but playable. I like this course, it's got some character... a lot of big trees. Overall the course is in good shape. One thing that bugs me... it's a course that gives local residents a break on green fees which seems to be subsidized by those having to pay full price.

It's been a while since I've played here. A friend and I went out early and played by ourselves. Usually this course is PACKED!! Today, however, there were very few people and it was an enjoyable round. We finished in under 4 hours and the greens were in really good shape. The fairways and bunkers were very wet and oversaturated due to the torrential downpour from the last couple of weeks. It actually made the course more challenging since there were more water hazards than usual :-)

If you want a quick round of golf, this usually isn't the place to play unless you get lucky. Even though it's a muni, the course layout is very challenging. The last poster who said it isn't a course for serious golfers clearly is not aware that there are a few prestigious state tournaments that are played at El Dorado each year. Now, granted, they play from a different set of tees (on some holes, they are wwaaaaayyyy back), and the course is usually in far better shape during the tournament, but with that being said, it is clear that playing it in ANY condition, that there is a great course underneath. The course requires accuracy off the tee and it also demands the ability to work the ball both ways off the tee. Sharp doglegs, and lots of trees. Though not long, it is a good test. I don't want to "let the hackers have it" as the previous poster said. Plenty of top local/state golfers play here and I resent the notion that it's not a serious golfer's course. I've played with plenty of single digit players that had a hard time breaking 80 from the Long Beach Open tee boxes.

Played Thursday 12/27/2007. Typical LA county course. Course was in OK condition (but don't expect nice fairways or anything special- it's a county course). Do expect SLOWWW PLAY. Do NOT expect the marshall to help with SLOWWW PLAY. I left after nine holes - it was going to take all day. This was my first and last experience at this course. I do not recommed this course to serious golfers. Let the hackers have it.

I played today, Sunday, and the greens have bounced back. Two greens on the back side were still in poor shape, but the rest were in fine shape.
A young man I played with told me that they canned the greenskeeper, but I can't tell you if thats true or not. The course is in very good shape from tee to green, considering the amount of play it gets. They also seem to have cut down the kikuyu rough a bit, which speeds up play and makes getting up an down a lot easier from around the greens. I guess they will be aerifying this week, but they seem to have things under control.

I just played this course today for the first time in over a year. I used to play it all the time. It was in just horrible shape, the greens were the worst I have ever seen them. Maybe it was the heat, water shortage or something else. But I am hoping they fix them. Overall I like this course, for what it is, a muni, it is a great layout. Best public course in Long Beach. But like all public Long Beach courses, during peak weekend hours it is sloooooow. I try and play during the week or twilight on Sunday.

played 9/16, very nice staff. course, not so nice. course is dry and dead everywhere. dirt patches in rough and fairway. greens are horrible. tons of unrepaired ball marks, greens did not run true and there were a lot of dead and dry areas on the greens, did not expect these condition from this course. i know long beach has proclaimed a water shortage but it looks like some parts of the course doesnt have sprinkler systems installed. for the price i highly doubt i will ever play there again.

Played 8/18/07 sat.at noon as a tournament member.Genarally in good conditions being busy muni course.Today's pace of play was very good (cause of actual hot weather?) playing smoothly without waiting each shot usually you expect here.Comparing actual conditions of Socal courses this is right now one of the best but not reaching highest condition ever had.I remember the greens were faster & smoother than today because el dorado's greens are strong favor fact of the course. The fairways was good also tee boxes but with some muddy wet spots I found.
Overall nice track.

Played 8/11, long round, course was okay shape, the rough was tough and thick in some areas, the Fairways and bunkers were in pretty good shape. My main complaint besides the time it took to play 5 1/2 hours, was the ball mark damage on the greens. The greens are smaller than most muni courses which have have caused part of the problem, but either way there were way too many.

Heard from David808 that Eldo was in prime shame. He played the weekend before. Got out Tuesday for a "meeting" at twighlight around 2:30pm. Managed to finish before 6:30pm. Not bad for a weekday. Greens were ok but rather inconsistent. I think they were overwatering greens causing them to wrinkle. Not all of them just a good number of them. So get ready for really quick puts that will bounce around like a pachinko ball. Fairways are in good shape. Some of the bunkers need filling. Tee boxes are flat but some bare spots on two holes. Rough is really thick and sticky. Can't complain because game wasn't there. I was merely going through the motions of playing golf and glad to be out. Just a pet peeve here. Starter paired us with another twosome and a single. Appearently one chap in this twosome thought he was going out as a twosome instead of being paired. This chap refused to shake my hand; even acknowledge us. Rude as he may have been that sort of behavior is uncalled for. If you want to play as a twosome go find some really expensive course. Pay the $$$$ to play. Just don't expect Country Club experience at a municipal. Ok I am getting off my soap box.

This round had to be one of the most painful in recent memory. The course is very unforgiving to wayward tee shots. The fairways are generally narrow and are surrounded by large mature trees. You have to play the trees like they are a water hazard, since once you get in the trees, you're losing a stroke to get out of them.

That being said, the course was in excellent condition. I was suprised how great the course conditions were, since this is a city cousre. The fairways, rough, traps and greens were all in great condition. I've played some $90 courses that aren't in the condition of El Dorado. Pace of play was about 5 hours.

Next time I'll keep the driver in the bag, and keep my tee shots on the fairway.

I was very impressed with this course. There is really no comparison to Skylinks which is right up the road. The green fees are cheaper and the course is much much nicer.

The fairawys were in excellent shape as were the greens. I defintely have to put this at the top of my list for the LB courses.

The speed of play was a bit slow but it was a Saturday morning. I highly recommend trying out this course.

This course as I have said before is my personal KYPTONITE. But not today. Did actually quite well considering my driver left me for a few holes. Tees were up today. Greens were FANTASTIC. Little bumpiness but overall they ran very true. Not so soft with approach shots but the balls did check well with proper shots. Rough was cut fairly short. Easy to find errant shots. Along fairway however rough we fairly thick on average 2-5 inches versus 1-3 further away from the fairway -- go figure. Sand again was pretty good. No hard pan. It was well stocked and nice and fluffy. Fairways were pretty green. In a month it will be fabulous. They are also pretty good about rotating the tees around the tee boxes. Slow round due to just plain crowded.

First time to play at El Dorado. Played Saturday, 2/24 before noon. Great looking fairways for the public course I ever seen. Pace was normal for the weekend(5hrs+), can't complain. Many trees surrounding the fairways and making the fairways look narrow but very playable. Greens were faster than they look. Enjoyed the course and will come back for more.

Played El Dorado on 2/21. This course always beats me up. Course was looking very good this day.

Fairways green unlike Skylinks (Question, why would you plant grass that goes dormant in a climate that plays golf year round?)

Greens a little beat up but still rolling true. Always a little faster than you expect.

Fairway boxes also a little beat up but show me a public course with a lot of play with level tee boxes?

Sand boxes had to be the worst I've ever played on. Unfortunately, this day I've found too many of the traps. Hole 4 (greenside bunker) soft and fluffy. Hole 11 (fairway bunker) very good. Hole 12 (greenside bunker) soft and fluffy. Hole 14 (greenside bunker) very hard. Hole 17 (greenside bunker) very hard. Horribly inconsistent this day. Should take a lesson from Skylinks which have very nice bunkers throughout.

Overall, very good layout. Can't figure out why El Do gets me every time. But a great time nevertheless.

This course is my personal Kyptonite. For some reason I ALWAYS play poorly here. Not much to criticize about the course either. There are no blind shots to the green. It's a straightforward course. What you see is what you get but OMG the greens are super fast. Tap it and the ball will roll 5 feet easily. One green in particular on back 9 (14 I think) had some major repair and some funk growing on the green. The only bad green I putted on. Played well to my game but for some reason or another the rest of my game took a nice long holiday. Tee boxes were in good shape. They really do know how to rotate the tee positions well to prevent wear. Fairways were burned out but I think more b/c of the spring weather and cold snap we had recently. Should be back in good shape when the temps for both night and day equalize. Sand traps were good. Enough sand to get your wedge under the ball and throw it up on the green. We played right before the tournament and the group ahead took off like jack rabbits. We were a walking foursome and the group ahead was at least a half hole in front of us the entire time. We on the other hand were at least a full hole to a hole-and-a half in front of the tournament most of the time. Staff is sharp and on the ball. Knew the manager from when he worked at Los Verdes. Good chap and knows how to keep a tight ship. Kudos guys!

I played ElDo on Tuesday Jan 9 on one of our beautiful summer-like days in the winter. The course is in great shape. It was lightly traveled and we had to only wait for 1 fivesome group at holes 9 and 12. The greens started fast (we teed off at 12:30) and slowed down later in the day. Trees are always an issue for errant shots (you get lots of punch out practice!). The rough was recently cut which made it easy to get my first sub-100 round in the 18 months I've been playing. Overall a great day at ElDo.

Had a 8:04 tee time yesterday. Never seen it that crowded. We didn't tee off till almost 9:00. The pace was actually pretty good considering. We finished before 2:00. The clubhouse has good sandwiches and the bartender is funny guy. It's a nice atmosphere, worth hanging around for a few cold ones. The greens and fairways were in good condition. Just a few bare spots in the rough. The fairways are wide enough to pull out your driver at every par 4 and 5, but the large trees will make you pay if you spray it. Overall well worth the wait.

Played on Friday, November 10 and the golf course was in terrible shape...supposed to be the silver rated course in LB...fairways wet and overseeded...greens thin and bumpy...tee time 30 minutes late...Rec Park and Lakewood much better golf courses and alot cheaper...wont be back...not worth the money, not even close...

it does not matter how well the greenskeeper is. if people do not fix their ball marks no greenskeeper can keep up with any course. this course gets alot of play. very nice layout..trees are mature...the rough is high. still seeing the effects of the aeration. #14 green is still a temp green.

It's a nice test with narrow fairways and lots of trees but the greens can have alot of ball marks at times. If you play from the tips its a real challenge. greenside side rough can be brutal.
Don't think the green fees are worth it

Couldn't finish last two holes, despite playing for almost 5.5 hours! It was a shame that the pace of play was excruciating, because the course is setup beautifully, and the condition was good considering the amount of play that it recieves. Was barely worth it with a reddot discount.

Course played exceptionally fast for a Sunday afternoon. Greens were as good as it gets for a course that gets this much play. Folks actually fix their divots -- totally amazing! Fairway is lush. Rough though was tough. The ball would sink into that grass and disappear in most instances. I had a ball sink into the rough during my take away -- cost me a stroke. Overall course in great shape. The rough is slightly unfair but well just don't go in there. :D

I just have on question...

HOW MUCH ROUGH IS TOO MUCH ROUGH FOR A MUNI?

I know that courses in the modern era are becoming more and more defenseless to better players, but public courses are played by a spectrum of golfers including beginners, juniors, seniors, women and mid to high handicappers who are going to be disembowelled by 3-4 inch kikuyu rough. I played with a couple higher handicap women today and it was painful to watch. There is no way an average woman can play out of that stuff.

Not to mention speed of play. On several occasions, my playing partners and I spent a considerable amount of time searching for balls that were just out of the fairway. Imagine how much time is added to the average round as players scour the rough looking for decent tee shots.

I say, go ahead and grow the rough for a month or two prior to the Long Beach Open, but be fair to the majority of players the rest of the year and keep the rough at a playable level for everyone.

Played here on 7.22 and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. No cart girl and the snack stand closed early on a saturday with temps in the 90s. What kind of BS is that? One of our guys left cus he was suffering from a mild heat stroke because there was no water in sight. Terrible customer service.

I love this layout. The problem is we played this course during The Long Beach Open. This means that alot of decent golfers go into these greens with wedges so they look like a teens pizza face. Still a good value and I don't see how Skylinks stays afloat when this is here for less doe. It's a challenge to shape your tee shots around the overgrown trees. I'll go back any time. fngolfer

Played on a Wed 1:24pm tee time. The 1st tee was backed up 4 groups. When I decided to call it a day we were at the 12th hole and already 4 1/2 hours into the round. Normally, I don't complain about length of play but on a Wed afternoon, that is ridiculous. I'd rather pay $9 more and get in a 4 hour round at skylinks.

I was also disappointed in the condition of the course. Greens were bumpy, sand traps were awful and there were many bare spots on the fairways. Kind of suprising considering the city championship is just around the corner.

Course is green and lush....hit it straight and you will be in good shape....slice or hook and the rough and trees will do you in. The greens were in great shape. This course of all the Long Beach Courses definitely the most green...especially compared to Skylinks. However hard to beat the greens at Skylinks when it is in good shape.

golf course was in unbelievable shape for heavily played public course...fairways and greens really nice (ball marks were pretty bad...we had to fix more than our 'share' on every green)...thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon round (2:00 start) although 'greenskeeper' shows the twilight rate at 2...it is at 3....not very long course but holes were interesting...keep it in fairway and low scores are available

Well the Long Beach Golf Festival is over and it's left a rather nice suprise. The greens roll true. They are faster than most but I would characterize them as med-fast. Folks though FIX YOUR DIVOTS. Sand is in great shape close to the green and fairway. Rough is thick 4+ inches as well as sticky. Fairway and tee boxes are in GREAT shape. Played in under 4 hourse (3.5 to be exact). Looking forward to play Rec this weekend.

I haven't been playing golf for very long, but I have played quite a few different courses. From very inexpensive to some that I consider kind of pricey. I have to say that El Dorado Park Golf Course was the most well kept and beautiful course I have seen. I absolutely loved it. If you have a phobia of trees, maybe not the course for you...LOL. Highly recommended.

Played Eldo thurs. 5/4 pace slow as always 5 1/2 hours to be exact tee'd off @ 12:15 but had a 11:55 tee time. Course in good shape fairways nice, roughg thick and greens rolling fairly true. Only complaint about the course got into one bunker on #3 I thought it should have been a waste area with all the rocks in there. Not pebbles guys my 60 degree looks like smashed against the concrete the laeding edge is dented in many spots and there is a big gash on the face so stoked!!!:(

Played for the first time (good)Fri. Apr.14th ,and was impressed for a muni. Simple straight forward short layout, the fairways were tight and green and the rough was perfect for penalizing errant shots. Walked on at 6:30 as a twosome, put us w/one and finished in 3hr 45min.! Marshal was visible the entire round, and both snack bars open at 6:30!Will play again for sure...

Played for the first time last saturday, don't think they've begun aerating the greens yet. But greens were in good condition - quite slick for a muni course (is it?). Strategically placed tree lines... must be because I kept hitting my drives into them. Are tree branches also strategically grown? My iron shots kept hitting them, too. I don't know why everyone says this course is slow; our group never ran into the group in front of us. The best part: GPS! Never seen one at a muni course before. Will be back.

Overall the course in good shape....very green. The greens did not look very pretty....kind of variegated in color, however rolled pretty smooth overall except for those holes with a lot of unrepaired ball marks. Usually pace of play is quicker than today...took almost 5 hours. Challenging course if you cannot keep it in the fairways since their is a lot of trees. Hopefully next time I return the greens will be in better shape.

Played 2/12 and 2/14. I thought the course was in good shape. The course is open enough that you can recover fairly well if you aren't in the fairway. Greens were fast but I thought they putted well and held shots very well. I had no problem walking on as a single either day (about 15-30 minute wait). Pace of play wasn't bad (4 to 4.5 hours).

I just dont understand long beach golf courses especially eldo and rec park neither one is in very good condition at all .They never are! Reasonabole green fees but thats all there are much better public courses 15 to 30 minutes in any direction and whats this resident card bull**** ? I could understand charging non residents a few extra dollars if the courses were a step above oyher public courses in the region but theyre not even close. Long Beach golf needs to get its act together and and get these courses to the level that they should be then Ill be happy to pay non resident discrimination rates!!!!!!!!

Very green course, some fairways pretty wet. Greens roll fast especially on downhill putts despite being very bumpy. Needs to be rolled. Long Beach Courses used to be some of the best public courses for the money. Skylinks and El Dorado are pretty expensive for what it is ......Long Beach raised the green fees on all their courses.....El Dorado and Skylinks have been pretty wide open during the weekdays since then.

Was second group off this morning. Biggest complaint was tree branches that were cut yesterday and left alongside the fairways on 5 to 6 holes. Tee boxes fair, fairways were okay, sprinklers were not turned on, as they usually are. Greens are a bit bumpy and thin in some areas and as always ball marks are left unrepaired. As a 5-some we played in just under 4 hours.

Played 12/11. Had a 9 am tee time, flew thru the first 11 holes. Then waited the rest of the round, still finished in under 5 hours, but should have been faster. Fairways and greens in good shape, must have put new sand in traps, very fluffy. Tee boxes in fair shape, only real complaint was course very saturated in rough and around tee boxes. Deep rough and lots of trees, must stay in fairway to score here.

This course used to be in immaculate shape no matter what time of the yr. Today was the worst I have ever seen this course...I have seen worst courses, but I guess I have expectations from the past. Many of the greens were bumpy and wet and a bunch with bare spots and diseased.......especially the first 3 holes. Many tee boxes with a lot of divots and gouged out holes. Also many over watered fairways. This used to be the premier course of the LB courses..........not today. I think Rec Park much better shape and followed by SkyLinks (which is a bit pricey for what it is.!)

i dont know why every person in long beach praises eldorado golf course, is it a fad do you people know of no other courses to play? I wish someone would explain it to me. The course is consistently in bad shape the service is not that good, theres no service cart and the course is always crowded with slow golfers. Ive never played the course in under 5 hours. The greens are always inconsistent, are they fast or slow is anybodys call. I think its time for longbeach golfers to take their heads out of their u know what.

Played 6/19, course is in good shape. Ball sits nicely up on the fairways, greens receptive, though a little firm, rolled nice a little bumpy and slower. Rough is tough, hard to advance your ball, and the many trees make this a tough course, even from the fairway if you are in the wrong spot. Sand traps okay, a little hard. Very slow, but it was Father's Day. Best course around for less than 50.00 with a cart.

Played in 3rd group off this morning. Course is in very good shape. Fairways and greens are in excellent condition with the exception of green # 4, which showed some damage from birds. Fairways on # 15 had large wet area that was roped off due to over watering? Greens were receptive and putted very true. Rough is thick and gnarly. Again all golfers please repair your ball marks. On green # 1 I fixed 3 ball marks besides my own.

I think this course is better than just about any public course under $50 in a very large area of Southern California. Even though it is flat you still have to strategize your way around this course. Plenty of rough, bunkers, trees, and water come into play. The course is in great shape.

Played in a two day tournament 5/14 & 15 and from the week before the greens have finally come all the way back. Thou sometimes they are just a little bumby but thats normal for this course. The rough is up and will cause problems mainly finding a ball. The bunkers which most of the time are the worst around due to being very inconsistant were very good for a change. The best deal and course around.

The greens have come back and the rough is up which makes this course tough. Not a long course but if you cant keep the ball in the fairways the rough and trees will make this place seem like a 7200 yard course. The best value around.

Ahh El Dorado....
One of my faves, and yes the greens were not as nice as they have been. A touch bumpy and inconsistent. Overall the course was very lush for eldo, and the course is always a challenging track. You must find the fairways, and from there keep the ball below the hole. This is a shotmakers course, tight well defined holes, but still sneaky long.
Higher handicap golfers will struggle here, but it's a good solid test of golf.
I will be back often!

Played in the Quad tournament today and was once again severely disappointed in El Dorado, the supposed crown jewel of Long Beach golf. Are the greens ever any good at El Do? Who is the greenskeeper, Clouseau? I play here 5-6 times throughout the year and they are never any good...PERIOD? The rest of the course is only slightly better. Rec Park, Skylinks, and Lakewood golf courses are much better golf courses if only for the greens. Please, El Do is a great layout, can someone get a clue over there and get a new greenskeeper and golf course superintendent. Its an embarrassment to claim it as "THE golf course in Long Beach" in the condition it is in. See you at Rec.....

After reading the prior reviews, I had expected the greens to have "recovered" better than I discovered. They were extremely quick considering how bumpy they are - a tough combination when trying to make a putt! No chance at stopping any shots, the greens were way too firm. Fairways were inconsistant, as was the rough. I like the course, which I always find to be rather difficult from the tips, but when you add bad greens, questionable lies in the fairway and in this .. wind, makes for a long day at "Eldo".

This has been my "Home Course" for the last 15 years. The Ted Robinson design (with a recent 'makeover') is very traditional and is deceptively challenging due to the abundance of trees. It is consistently punitive for any errant tee shot (automatically add a stroke). It will favor a consistently straight hitter but length is a must on most of the Par 4's or they become Par 5's (Par 6's if your errant AND short). Don't be in a hurry because it attracts all of the bargain hunters and the Starters promote fivesomes.

The greens were punched on 3/2/28 & 29 and are bumby but they have not lost any speed. The rest of the course is coming back into great shape after the rains. Once the greens come back this course will again be the best in the county.

played this courese on 3/27..the greens were as fast as there is on a public course and the fairways were in awesome shape. The course plays tough due to tree limbs that come out into the fairway. It is also nice to have a beverage shack you can get to from 5 different holes.

Played on 3/19 and the course is in great shape no more standing water and the rough has been cut. The greens are soft and a little bumby but thats normal here but they are running fast. The fairways are at there best now. If it rains again like it did last night the course will be right back to it's flooded state.

Played on the 17th, all fairways are dry and have been cut they look good. Has the norm greens a little beat up, they rolled good but not enough players are fixing there ball marks. And yes the round was a little "slow". This starts on the first tee, 3 quarters of the time there is a starter or marshall on that tee, and he should be moving the players up to the whites and off the blues and you know which ones there are, the same ones waiting in the fairway to hit a second shot thats farther than the tee ball they just hit. the marshalls have to be empowered to do this.

played ED on mar 1. Still flooded in parts from all the rain. I'd give this course a couple more weeks to dry out. They are still unable to mow several fairways, and the rough is a nightmare. If you must play here, bring plenty of balls.

ED is a great course I only get to play a few times a year. It was in pretty good shape despite the rains. Greens rolled true, and the fairways not too bad. One thing to American Golf - Nowhere in the rules of golf does it mention a fivesome.

they have raised their green fees....so they need to make sure the traps have sand in them...that the marshalls keep things moving....if they are going to start charging bigger $$...should be re rated at $$ now...

I like El Dorado, but be warned. On a Sunday afternoon they sent out way too many groups. My group ended up skipping 2 & 3. Slow but steady progress 4 to 8. Parking lot on 9, jump back to 2 and run through to 9. For last on a Sunday it wasn't too bad. The course wasn't too wet. Maybe 3 of the front had a patch were you needed to be careful of the muck.

This is one of the many fun courses in long beach to play. Design like Skylinks with easier greens to speed up play. Any weekday player is rewarded with quick pace of play for a good price.

timblume's got it right. ED does not drain at all, especially after the rains of early January. Unless you can handle playing in lots of casual water and uncut fairways/rough, give it a month to dry out. Otherwise, ED is a fun muni track with trees and water to keep you in line.

Played yesterday morning at 8am. There were three of us, and of course, they put a twosome with us. For those of you who aren't familiar with Long Beach golf protocol and parlance, we locals call that a "Long Beach Foursome". In Long Beach, they don't believe in foursomes; they'll put 5 in every group no matter what. I'm surprised they haven't implemented sixsomes. Rounds here already last 5 and a half hours and sometimes more, so what would be the harm in adding another player? Sarcasm aside, the course was a moat. The fairway was indestinguishable from the rough; 3 inches or more in all parts of the course. The rough was even higher and thicker in parts, which made finding balls virtually impossible, even in the middle of the fairway. The bunkers, as typical of Long Beach courses, had virtually no sand in them. The one saving grace were the greens. They were in fenomenal shape. They rolled as pure as any greens I've seen. This is clearly due to the fact that nobody's been playing on them the last three weeks because of the rains. Rest assured, the greens will look tired and overplayed in a few weeks. It's too bad the American Golf "powers that be" aren't smart enough to close a golf course if the fairways are in such bad shape, that the groundscrew has to use chalk to show you were the fairway outline is. Just keep the course closed until it's decent to play. I know that the greens fees are cheap, but the course could have used this dry weather week to rest and be beautified by the groundscrew, not sloshed around on by hundreds of people. If yall want to see some good greens, get out here quick before they're gone!

With the rain we've been having...this course will be a lake for a while. It has severe drainage problems, even after they put a bunch of money to try and fix it. Avoid playing probably until February... as long as the rain eases off here within the next few weeks. It will need a month to dry out.

Played 11/30. Course is being overseeded so cartpath only. Greens were great, a little firm, but very fast and smooth. Fairways were hard and gave lots of roll. Course was empty, walked right on, but did not help the time. First seven holes played in less than 1.5 hours, rest of the round took over 3 hours. No marshall to move groups on. Still a beautiful day at a good course.

waited 2 hours to get on day after turkey day. play took almost 6 hours. greens are nice. rough needs work. thin and patchy at a lot of areas. everything else ok.
they need to stop putting out 5-somes to cut down on the length of play.

The course is preparing to overseed the fairways which is the reason for the heavy water.

I agree with the previous reviewers.....many fairway spots were wet, muddy and soggy. We have had no rain for more than a week, so it must be just poor drainage. I had to take relief out of a pool of water and mud a few times today. The greens were variable....some excellent and some were diseased. I guess with Skylinks now open....this course was pretty wide open today. Played Rec Park last week and I think that course was in overall better shape. However had 2 rounds of 4hrs at each of these courses during the weekday....that I love. I wonder if the slighter new higher green fees have anything to do with the course being less crowded.

played on 11/14 ... the greens are in better shape as well as the fairways ... they cut down the grass bunker on #8. New netting has been installed on the right side of the driving range as well, since the other netting was torn during the last storm. One thing that bothered me was the amount of standing water that was prevalent throughout the course ... it has rained in weeks so are they over watering, is the course not draining properly or all of the above. It seems that this course is very high maintenance.

The best deal anywhere and a great course. Not the longest but tight. Just one little thing wrong, the condition of the course is not the best right now but it looks like it's on the way back. A couple of fairways have standing water, the greens are getting in better shape. PLEASE FIX YOUR BALL MARKS.

Played in a tournament on 10/23. My first time playing the course, I was pretty impressed by the layout. It is deceptively tight, with old large trees positioned to block many approach shots. And once you're in the trees, it's a coin flip whether or not you have a shot. Pretty flat, so it would make a good walking course. The greens and tee boxes had been punched a couple of weeks ago. The greens remained pretty bumpy, which got a little maddening on short putts. The bunkers were in surprisingly good shape, with just the right amount of sand with good consistency. Lots of standing water in several fairways from the recent rains. I liked the practice area, with two practice greens and a chipping/pitching area. The fence for the range is full of holes and needs to be replaced though...it's only a matter of time before someone on the tenth hole gets conked on the head. Will definitely be playing again...I scheduled a tournament for next summer.

JUST THINK, THIS COURSE IS SUPPOSED TO BE KEPT UP IN BETTER SHAPE TO COMPLIMENT THE HIGHER GREEN FEES...MAYBE THE LB CITY AND AMERICAN GOLF SHOULD LOOK FOR ANOTHER BOND TO REBUILD THIS COURSE SO THEY COULD CHARGE MORE MONEY THAN SKYLINKS...PLAY LAKEWOOD, MUCH BETTER AND LESS EXPENSIVE...

Greens are coming back ok from aeration but some greens have patchy brown areas. Most likely will get worse than better because American Golf and the City of Long Beach are killing this course. Hopefully the rains on saturday will help a little otherwise a great layout.

play $19 twi light this afternoon in a fivesome group. tee off at exactly 2:00pm and finished only 14th at 6:30.
the pace is so so slow, even the layout is interesting, it still do not deserve $19.

you can say "hi" to 2 groups infront of you and also 2 groups behind you on every par-3 hole, pretty good for making many friends and do conversations.
