Greens are very soft, showing all footprints, but surprisingly putted ok. Fairways are really chewed up. Bunkers have many, many unraked footprints. But you can buy yourself a nice can of Schlitz for $2.75 at the snack bar!

Played Harding yesterday, 9/17, as a twosome + single. Teed off 3:00 pm, first off twilight. Previous review is pretty accurate as to course conditions. Some brown spots on the fairway -- most were soft lies. I had a few thin fairway lies during the round, but not necesarily in brown areas. Greens were a bit marked up and I fixed a lot of pitch marks, but they rolled true enough with a good medium speed. Generally good tee boxes -- a few had the markers pushed up/together because the grass was being reconditioned. Otherwise flat with good coverage and the few that weren't level were not off by much. Rough varied but wasn't very penal. The bunkers looked OK -- the one time I landed in one, my ball was sitting on a small, isolated, damp spot, so it was atypical. Pace was very good, under 4:10 and the group behind us would have been the last to have enough light to finish. By muni standards, the course was in less than top condition, but generally good and quite playable. I wasn't expecting Goose Creek or even Santa Anita, so I had a good round and enjoyed the outing.

My 1st time playing at Harding was very enjoyable because it only took 4hrs to complete it. We teed off on 8/6 at about 9am and off the course by 1pm. There wasn't a group in front of us until our 4some caught up on Hole #7. Even then the pace was still brisk for LA Muni standards. I guess Wilson is the more popular track, however, I enjoyed Harding. Its not a long course and not very difficult for an intermediate player. For the beginner it will offer you various dog legs, uneven lies, subtle and sever elevation changes, and a coyote kickin it in the shade.

Greens were slow and at times bumpy but all putts rolled true for the most part. There were some bare spots and brown areas on some of the fairways but certainly isn't distracting. The rough was very playable today. Fortunately, I didn't find the sand but from what I saw they seemed to be soft and consistent throughtout the course. Tee boxes were also in great shape.

I would play Harding again and for $29 w/ pull cart its always a great value. However, if I had a choice I would opt for Wilson.

Played Sat morning (7/19) in about 4 1/2 hours. Never had to wait except for the only par 3 on the front 9. Greens were slow and bumpy. It's a short course and relatively flat. They raised the rates earlier this month so non LA residents pay $39 on weekends to walk. That is bunch of bs if you ask me. I know I won't be coming back anytime soon unless they make vast improvement.

Played today and was able to tee off a little earlier than the time I had. Which worked out great. There was no one in front of us the entire time. The group behind us were 2 holes down. We didn't have to wait on the tee box or the fairway. The course was in okay shape. The fairways weren't too wet like it has been in the past. The greens were a little slow which is what I expect when I play Harding. There were a lot of old divots which made the greens bumpy. PEOPLE FIX YOUR DIVOTS. Had a great time and I always enjoy playing this course.

There were a few holes that were drenched from over watering. #'s 6 & 12 come to mind, bu thtere were a few others as well that hade been over watered.
The pace of play was good. Big problem on thre greens are that people are not fixing divots. I believe in the rule "yours +1 other". If this is watched more, the greens would never have problems like they do now.
Another thing golfers need to do is wait until the group omn the green has left the green entered their golf carts, and moved to the next hole. Too often yesterday, as we were walking off the green, the group behind us was hitting. Golfers should begin their pre-shot routines as the group in front is leaving so they are ready to hit once the group in front has left.

Hmmm, well despite shooting the best I have in a while (84), there was discouragment throughtout the round.
First and foremost...the groundskeeper does not need to have the sprinklers goign on hole #'s 6 and 12 for most of the AM. Hole #12 especially had a nice little lake on left hand side of the fairway that ball happened to find.
Hole # 6, the sprinklers were on from about 9:30 until we passed by there again around 1:00-1:30 playing the 15th.
Anyways, along with friends I play with regularly feel that the course over reacts to the weather when its hot.

Wow! Got to the course and was asked "would you like to go out early? I had to check and make certain I was at Harding. I guess the economy even has an impact on the city and county courses. (Last week I was at Oak Quarry and there was NOBOBY there???) It still took exactly 4 hours to play however, but for Harding, that ain't bad! Course was in OK condition, not great, but playable. (Except for the 1st green which was sanded and punched) Didn't help to start out with a three-putt! Always enjoy playing these traditional courses, so I tend to look pass the condition.

Played Sat 05/17. Haven't play here for a long time. Normally, you have to wait a long time ~1.5/2 hours to tee off. I got there on Sat around 9:30am and there were not many people. I was third on the waiting list. I was able to tee off around 11:00. Greens are in very good shape. Still need our golfers to fix their ball marks. Green speeds are normal. Fairways are OK. Still have quite a bit of bare spots. Bunkers are OK. Pace were very slow. Had to wait on every holes. Big traffic jam on third holes... don't know why? Took us over 5 1/2 hours to finishe the round. However, it worked out OK since it was very hot day and give us time to rest/relax on every holes. Good course, give GK rating 6.0.

I played this course on May 15th and enjoyed it. The course was in good condition and the greens were in great shape for a public course. "Under-appreciated" was the assessment of my playing partner. Harding may be shorter than Wilson, but it is a challenging course in its own right and just as scenic. It is a shame that it is overlooked by many golfers who frequent Griffith Park. One staffer noted with dismay that most walk-ons if given the choice between waiting an hour and a half to get on Wilson and going straight to the tee at Harding prefer to wait.

Played on 04/05/08. Greens had been aerated a week earlier. Greens still very bumpy and sandy. I love playing this old style course. I gets a bad rap sometimes, but it is very good and can be challenging for a higher handicaper. I pefer this course over Wilson, but both are good courses.

The course was in great shape only because they were hosting the L.A. City Jr. Championship over the weekend. Why they can't keep any and all City course in that kind of shape on a consistent basis is beyond me. One can only hope right.
The Green were in great shape although why people cannot fix a single divot is also beyond me. Come one people, lets make each other's round of golf more enjoyable then having to complain that the green is covered with unrepaired divots.
All in all it was an enjoyable round.

Played on the morning of 2/18, President's Day. Course seemed real quiet. It took us about 4 1/2 hours to play 18 holes. Course is in good condition. The fairways were nice and green after all the recent rains. Although there were some hard pan areas on the fairways. It seems the fairways and greens felt a little hard packed. On our drives, it seems that our balls just kept on rolling. Greens seemed firm. Just about every hole, when I was looking to repair my balls marks, I didn't see any. Overall, course is in good condition. It is the best I have seen for several months. Great price to play here!

Played Harding morning of 2/2/08, teed off at 7 am - cold! This is the easier of Griffith Park's two tracks, and it is currently a little shabby under winter conditions. Luckily the greens are decent, but the fairways and rough are thin and patchy. The layout is OK, only a few hard holes out there. I think Harding is worth the $31 to walk if you get out early and cruise around in 4 hours like we did today. Not as much fun if you tee off later when it backs up.

We played on Saturday 12/22 with a tee time around 8 am. It took us about 5 hours to play 18. It was a little chilly when we started. Some of the greens felt a little frozen, which made for interesting play.

With the recent rains earlier in the week, the course was a little muddy in spots. It seems every time I went to hit a fairway shot, I noticed I had mud on my ball. The fairways were bare in spots, under water in spots but overall it was in good shape.

The greens were in fairly good condition but with the recent rains, it seems to have soften a little bit. The sand was in decent shape although it seems a little wet from the recent rains. Later on in the day, the course warmed up which made for a great day of golf. I love the layout of this course. Worth the green fees.

WATERLOGGED. Overwatered to the point of being stupid. Saturated, mushy fairways. Most of the greens are o.k.
Pace of play, teeing off at 6:30, was excellent at under 4 hours.

The course plays fairly easy but the 107 degree heat made it very interesting as we walked the 18 holes. The sprinklers were turned on through out the day so it gets annoying. The tee boxes and fairways are in okay shape but I have seen better. The greens rolled pretty true but there are plenty of ball marks and tiny divots that looked like someone has been wearing metal spikes. Overall I like the course and it's in playable condition. I still like Wilson.

Another week, another $8 nine hole adventure. Each week it seems as if the greens are getting worse and the fairways are getting slower. I played with 2 guys from Cincy and I had to keep reassuring them that courses in SoCal cannot be judged on this course alone. All they did was complain about everything, but I had to remind them that A) it's a LA Muni and B) it only cost them $8!!! This place is great for practice and a little exercise. I try to play shots, clubs, etc. that I would never try normally, so I can feel more comfortable using them when it "counts". If you live in the Glendale, or surrounding area, Griffith Park is a great place to spend very little and work on your game.

Fun course to play if you can get a time early in the morning. Even than, prepare for some long rounds. Pace of play has always been a problem, and will continue to be a problem as long as the city keeps jamming people on.

Still, I enjoy playing here. Course is always in decent shape...nothing to rave about, but always playable. Greens roll pretty true...would be better if people were more cogniscant of their fellow golfers. It's a fun layout. back to back par 5's thrown in. Don't see it a lot, so it's a fun change from some other courses.

Played the super twilight rate of $8 and barely got in 9 holes by sundown. Personally, I like the Wilson course more than the Harding course at Griffith Park. There are a lot of trees that hug the right side of the tee boxes which made it hard for me to play my normal fade. You can't beat the price here, even if the course isn't in the best of shape. The fairways are average at best, the tee boxes leave something to be desired, but the greens are in pretty good shape. I also played the best hole of my life on number 6, a par 5, 576 yd. beast of a hole. I drove it roughly 310 yds. to the middle of the fairway and then I proceeded to hit a 21 degree hybrid 265 yds. to about 4 feet. I sank the putt and walk away with a nice little EAGLE!! My new goal is to get out to Griffith Park once a week after work and play nine holes. For the price and the convenience you can't beat it if you live or work in the Glendale area. The only thing about this course that I hate is the fact that the starter is an absolute bitter Bob, Johnny too cool! He is very condescending and he acts like you are such a waste of his time. So beware, he can put you in a bad mood before you even strike a ball. I would love to hit a hooded 7 iron through that window and shake him up a bit! LOL

Played Harding on Sunday 8/5/07. This was the first time I have played this course. I loved the layout. the pace of play was a little slow. The course was in good condition considering that it is a municipal course that gets a lot play every day. Some of the greens had unrepaired ball marks, which is a divot mark on all of us. Come on friends - repair your ball marks!

I will play here again, hopefully soon.

I played this course today, 1/28, and the fairways appeared to be brown w/ very little green spots throughout the entire course. The greens were definitely green, but bumpy on some holes. Our 4some tee'd off around 1:10, twilight time, and finished 18 holes, although we played 2 holes in the dark. We had a 4.5 hr round, which is the fastest I've ever finished at Harding or Wilson; it normally takes 5.5-6 hrs. I think it was due to many ppl canceling their reservations because it was supposed to rain today. Overall, it was worth my twilight green fee of $17 to walk :)

Played here Saturday, December 23rd with a 9:00 am tee time. It took us about 5 hours to play. Most of the fairways were very dry and hard. (The windy weather here must have dried out the fairways.) There were a lot of unrepaired divots on the fairways, which made it hard to hit if you were in one. The greens were still pretty good to putt on, although some of the greens had a lot of unrepaired ball marks (not the course's fault). A lot of the tee boxes were very dry and bare in spots. But you can't beat the price to play here. Love the layout of this course.

Played Saturday at the crack of dawn and had a great time. The course is probably about as good as one can expect considering the amount of play it gets and the price. Pace of play was great, but we teed off just after sunrise.

Here's a little bit of info that may come in handy for you. If you get off the waiting list with two players or more you can only use one credit card to pay. Each player can't use a separate card. They do have an atm in the pro shop, but its one of those atms that charge you the transaction fees.

This place was in seriously BAD shape today..

Never played here before but Im playing a tournament on Monday and if this is how they roll out the welcome waggon for the tournament then Im not impressed..

The place does get ALOT of use.. Lots more than other courses but still the grass is brown all over, tee boxes are beyond repair and need to be remade, greens have severe damage and overall the place is flat and uneventfull. Not what I expected for a course built on a big hill like this.

Played Saturday 9/2. We had a 9:30 am tee time. Took us just over 5 hours to play. Didn't care for the temporary green on hole #1 about 60 yards short of the original green. Most of the fairways were dry or thin in spots. Greens were fair (lots of ball marks on the green which made for bumpy putts). Some of the tee boxes were pretty dry or thin. Overall conditions on this course I would say is fair.

One of the hole has two tire marks going across the green. Fairways is below average... many bare spots. Tee box areas are also pretty bad. Seems like they did not have any maintenance for several weeks. Last time I played here, it was in great shape. Hopefully they will do something soon.

Played here on Thursday, June 15, 2006. I agree with everyone below, the course has recovered nicely from aeration. Tee boxes-6, fairways-6, and greens-7. Green on hole 13 or 14 is still under construction (the hole parallel to the 5 Fwy).

Pace of play on a Thursday was really nice. I used to play here in the late 90's when OJ roamed the course with his buddies. Nowadays, my brothers from K-Town over the hill make up the majority of the clientele. Asian-themed snacks make for a yummy treat after a tiring 18 holes. Only in LA can you get sushi to go in the snack bar.

If you're going to walk this course this summer, bring plenty of water as has started to get really hot out there. The only place to get a snack during the round is on hole 8 where they only take cash.

As always, on a muni course such as this you get some interesting characters out there playing golf. The hole in front of us had a couple of physicists from JPL or Cal-Tech, and the foursome behind us were some TG's from West Hollywood. We got to bond during the times we all were together waiting to hit our balls. I actually had a great time playing with them (32K for a complete makeover).

Never a bad day on the golf course.

Played Sat. Overall course conditions are good. Greens have recovered fine from aeration. Pace was bit slow as I have expected. All was good except there was one frustrated player who makes our round bit distasteful. We all get frustrated time to time but we all need to learn to control our temper for others sake. Continueously throwing the clubs and kicking the balls especially around the greens are NOT GOOD. Wish I could tell him to go home or learn the game properly.

Greens have recovered from aeration quite nicely. The rest of the course looks good. Except, the bunkers have more footprints than anywhere you will ever see. The laziness of people here to rake their mess is almost unbelievable. I know it's a muni course & that's what you should expect, but for christ's sake, how hard is it to pick up a rake???!!!

Played Saturday 5/6. The course has recovered nicely from the aeration. Everything is in pretty good shape for a city course. I wish the groundskeepers weren't so lazy. I hit a ball one foot off the fairway, and because someone had left a metal stake in the rough they mowed around it. My ball was in eight inches of thick grass. All in all it was a nice round on a good course.

Played on Saturday. Overall fairways and greens are OK. Still have some areas require repairs. I was bit worry about the course condition due to some GK members feedbacks. However, I have no complain for the course on Sat. Had a great time. Also we were able to finish the game in 4 hours. When we got back to club house around 11:30AM, it was very crowded. I've been playing Harding for 30+ years and this is the worse condition I've seen! Too bad because it is such a classic course along with Wilson, Rancho, etc. Unfortunately, despite the lousey condition, every tee time is booked so I guess that gives the City little incentive to put $$ into the course. Oh well!

WHY DO PEOPLE WANT TO PLAY THIS sh$t HOLE? THE COURSE IS IN BAD SHAPE. LOTS OF DRY SPOTS AND THE GREENS! PEOPLE JUST DONT FIX THERE BALL MARKS. EVERY PLAYER AT THIS COURSE THINKS HE IS A PGA PLAYER. SLOW PLAY ON THE GREENS AND IN THE FAIRWAYS. DUDE YOUR 250 YARDS PLUS. WHY WAIT TILL THEY GET OFF THE GREEN SO YOU COULD TOP IT AND HIT IT 65 YARDS. IF THE CITY WOULD PUT A LITTLE MONEY INTO THIS COURSE IT COULD BE NICE. WHY ARE THERE 3 GRUOPS WAITING ON THE FIRST TEE?

Best overall condition I have seen in a long time , only drawback is the tee boxes are bieng worked on so most are forward.

Teed up at 12:00pm. Finished only 14 holes. Too much traffic I say. The tee boxes were in very bad shape. The greens were bumpy. With overcrowing, the conditions of the course seems to get worse every year. I would rather play Rio Hondo or other course that offer earlier twilight rate around 12:00pm to 12:30pm whereas the twilight starts at 3:00pm for Los Angeles County courses.

i didn't go in any sand traps so i don't really know how they are.
i rated them as good to be fair in the rating survey. but for all i know they could suck!! i was very impressed by the fact that
a municipal course has beautifully kept, sand based greens. and people seem to really respect the "repair ball marks" rule. that's a huge thing on any golf course. the rest of the course lacked good conditioning but it was fine enough to get a shot off. to me
the only element of a course condition that i hope to be above average or excellent is the greens. and they definitely proved to be above average.

Played Friday 11/4, course is in decent shape by LA city standards. Looks like they recently aerated the tee boxes, some being fairly muddy. Don't know what's up w/ green on #1, but its heavily sanded, unlike the rest of the greens, which aren't. The rest are decent albeit a bit on the bumpy side. But for these green fees, I can't complain that much.

Played Harding 10/29. Greens were nice following the aeration. Some of the tees were going through some light maintenance but nothing major to bother anyone. Fairways were in nice shape as well. They've done a lot of work on this course (i.e. the on course restrooms have been redone and are very clean and respectable.
Harding and Wilson are are nice courses with lots of character some fun holes to test your game.

Definitely worth of what you're paying for, but the 1st hole has a temp green. Plays pretty slow. So be patient.

This course was in overall good condition, except the green in hole 1 looked aerated. The fairways were in good condition. Harding is always worth the green fee, because of it's natural environment.

I've always enjoyed Harding...when I couldn't get on at Rancho or Wilson. But today was, by far, the worst I've seen the course in 10 years. The left side of the first green is completely chewed up, #3 is playing as a par-3, and #4 has a temporary green. Several tee boxes had slopes while others had mud. Someone must have already gotten the word out...because we played as a twosome at 7am this morning. No one was on the waiting list.

Overall, the course is very nice. Pace of play still needs to be worked on--a wait on just about every hole. Rough is starting to get long. Worth the rate for SF residents. Outside? probably not.

A unique experience. Took advantage of a weekday twighlight, off the 1st tee at about 4:30 pm (Threesome) No one ahead of us or behind us for at least 2-3 holes. I've always heard this course was severely slow. Managed to play all 18 by the time darkness took over. We'll see if we're as lucky next Monday.

Played Tuesday, the 24th: The course is a little firmer due to the hot weather we just had.
The some of the greens looked like they were punched but very playable.
The 3rd Hole is now playing to the correct distance. Overall the course is playing very well.

Played Saturday morning. Pace very slow because the 3-some in front of us was two holes behind at the end, playing from the blues and hitting their drives 150 yards and then taking their sweet time hitting the ball. NO MARSHAL IN SITE ALL MORNING.
Otherwise the course played very well. In very good shape all around considering the abuse it gets from people with no clue.

The course was very dry and firm on Tuesday May 3rd. The rain we had over the weekend will help the course out a bit. I would bet that wednesday/thursday will be a great day to hit Harding. Greens were smooth and very quick, practice green will show you how quick the course is. Hit it and go find it.

- - Played 4/6 The course is in great shape despite the greens have recently been aerated, but they putt well. The fairways are great and the rough is also thick. They are working on hole #3 and moved up the tee box 50 yards to play at 350yards from the Blue tees. The course has a fill of a private club because of the lay out by George Thomas ( Rivera, Bel Aire, Los Anegles cc North ) I think this is a must play loop.

This course was definitely affected by the recent weather. The biggest problem was a sink hole that developed on the third hole. It has been temporarily converted to a par 3 until they can get it repaired. The fairways were a bit choppy and rough in some areas, and there was some standing water in places due to the recent rains, but the course was certainly playable. That said, the ground itself was really saturated and I found that I tended to make a lot more divots (and poor shots) than I am used to. Was I having an off day, perhaps, but the ground was still very wet.

The shining spot of the course were the greens. They were in great shape and pretty fast. Certainly not De Bell speeds, but faster and smoother than Brookside, which I played a day before this course.

Played Harding 3 times in 2004. Most recently on 12/22. Layout is not too difficult, greens are always in good shape, fairways can get a bit bare but what do you expect for a course with that much play. I also like the fact that it takes a major effort to lose a ball on Harding.

Overall, a good value for the money.

Friday morning tee time at 7am, it was 38 degrees. Very cold and the ground had some frost? We had a great day once it warmed up a bit out there! Greens are in great condition!!!! Firm from the cold weather and roling pretty well for this time of year! Lots of puts today because of the speed, very fast for Harding. The rest of the course is about par for this time of year, some bare spots, some dirt, and thin faiways. But hey this is golf, hit the ball find it and try and put it in the hole! Enjoy the holiday season.

Played Friday after thanksgiving. Tee time was for 8:48am but finished a little after 2pm. Tee boxes are fair and somewhat challenging for the average player but fun for the scratch player. Reachable par fives in two along with short par 4's for birdie looks. Par 3's are attackable and greens roll as it appears. For the money, definately worth it. A little noisey near the freeway.

Played Harding on Friday 6-25, 11:45 AM start as a single. Sent directly to the tee box, finished in 4 hours, 15 minutes. Sure, as any of the LA Municipals, this is not manicured golf, but its still pretty good. Please do not underate the courses because of your poor experience with the marshalls. We should all do our best to keep up and fix our divots, but I usually know what I'm getting in to before I go, and I never expect Griffith to be less than 5, even on the weekday.

The marshals here are worthless. They could not care less that four groups could be on the same hole. They ride on by only to get to the snack bar and have a cup of coffee. Like a good 5 hour plus round of golf? This is your place. Enjoy...

Hardings greens were hard and fast!!!! Yesss!! It took 2 greens for us to figure out what was going on but boy did was it fun friday at 8:45 am. I hit a real high ball and with some spin, i use a soft ball also, I had to work to hold these greens!!! Front of the green, no way , could not hold it. Had to hit some low runners to get on some greens. THIS IS WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF LAZY GUYS DON'T FIX THERE BALL MARKS!!!! I saw very few ball marks out there and I only fixed a few from my own ball, like being at a resort or country club, never see ball marks there!! NO CARTS EITHER, GOSH I THINK ITS PARADISE AT LAST! WALK CUZ YOU CAN'T RIDE ANYMORE. Go play HARDING IF YOU WANT TO PLAY GOLF, NOT JUST DRIVE AROUND AND HIT A BALL!

Please, please, please fix the tee boxes they are awful. Doesn't the greenskeeper notice this or is everyone blind. The greens are in good shape (before airation) but the fairways and tee boxes suck. Oh wait I guess it is supposed to be like this, the way the Scots play. I hate to say it but if any Scots saw this course they would be ashamed golf came from their country.

We are really lucky here in socal to have wislon and harding as local munis. For $22 you can walk 4-6 hours through some great golf courses, maybe even see some wild life enjoying the grounds. This time of year is tuff for golfers, rains, wind, aeration, general work on the courses ; kinda like the original golfers in the scotish highlands played it? We have this wonderful website to help us get the most out of yours and mine spoiled golf experience. We and that includes me alot of the time, won't go out and hit it if the weather or grounds are not a typical so cal day. I like this course and it played great that day, I played great that day. Was the course in perfect condition? No it was not but the greens were great, and thats all that matters! Go hit it when its wet and windy, putt on some sandy greens. Enjoy the game! :0 )

Harding played better this morning than I have ever seen it. The greens are as good as they are likely to be ever - still a lot of ball-marks, but they're medium-soft and actually running quick. There's no mistaking this for anything other than a municipal golf course, that's for sure, but I was delighted to see it in excellent form this morning, from nicely-cut tee boxes through lush fairways with only a few bare spots, to greens that rolled almost as well as many resort courses. My advice: get through your unpleasant interaction with the starter a good 30 minutes before your tee time (and it will not be a pleasant interaction) so you'll have time to mellow out, and then enjoy the best conditions Harding can offer!

But generally in good conditions of fairway & greens at season. pace of play was first 5~6holes very busy .3 groups in every hole. After all ,I played my best record round 15 . L.A. Golf Bum – the way the starter treated you shouldn’t come as a surprise. No Joke, I had the same line dropped on me TODAY at Harding. What I wanted to say back to the guy was “Maybe if you worked faster I wouldn’t be stuck in this long line” or something to that matter. But seriously, the only thing you can do is take it from these city starters. All these guys are on power trips because they know they control your golf destiny for the day and if you get pissed off about it, the city isn’t going to give a d%mn anyway. Putting the city employees aside, Harding was in decent shape and is a wonderful mature layout I always enjoy playing. Too bad they are punching the greens next week. You won’t see the long lines over there for a while.

Harding is a very nice course & plays at least 30 minutes faster than Wilson. Wilson seems to be more popular but Harding is just as nice. Beautiful lay-outs. What's up with the management though? Every time I come here I'm treated like a criminal. Some of their starters have attitude problems. I got to the pro shop 20 minutes before my tee time & there was a long line to the starter's window. By the time I got to the front it was 13 minutes before my tee time. The starter said my time was almost sold to someone else & to get here earlier next time. I told them about the line & they said it doesn't matter. Unbelievable! And I only saw the marshal 2 times. Once at the snack bar & once at the bar. It's too bad because the 2 courses here are great championship golf courses & are usually in pretty good shape concidering the amount of play they get.

Tried playing the golf course for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by its conditions and layout. For 21 bucks, it is one of the best value in LA County. This golf course beats Rancho Park anytime because the course has much better greens and the pace is really good about 4.5 - 5 hours.
Definitely a golf course to play because of its value.

Played on 5/17. Greens quite soft and mostly slow, speeds were pretty inconsistent which made for tough putting. Tees are really beat up, but fairways are in decent shape, and given how much play this gets and the general rudeness of LA Muni players, this course is in excellent shape. I repaired four or five fresh ball marks on just about every green but I'm sure I missed a few. If all the greenskeeper.org readers would do this regularly, we could REALLY improve public golf for everyone!

Harding is a fun course that plays short but that will make you shape shots both ways off the tees. Fairways are reasonably wide but there are lots of trees and par can be very hard to recover if you're wild off the tee. Pace of play was agonizing this weekend -- frequently had to wait for two groups at many tees, and the round took almost six hours. Still worth it, though, and a great course to walk. Enjoy!

Played on 4/19. Fairways were in very good shape and greens were fairly fast. Green on #1 was actually slower than the rest of the greens. Our round was about 4.5 hours and we never waited at any tee. Only downside was someone picked hit our ball and then went to pick up theirs realizing they'd hit the wrong ball. They didn't even acknowledge, just got in their cart and drove away. A little course etiquette could be learned by many. Especially for those who play every weekend.

Played on 4/16. Greens are in great shape. Course plays in 4 to 4 1/2 hours in the mornings but can play anywhere from 5to 6 hours in the late morning and afternoons. Not much trouble here, rough is short fairways are in good shape green are good pfairly big with few breaks. Marshals tend not to say anything to slow groups to speed up play.

Walked on to Griffith Park at 2:10 PM Tuesday 04-09 and hoped I'd be told that I could go straight to the Harding tee box. Teed off at 2:15 and finished at 7:00. Thank god for daylight savings time. While, the waiting at every tee box was wearing on me a bit the condition of the greens made up for it. I know that by the time you read this they might be punched, sanded, and probably not rolling this true and fast for another 2 months, but if you can get to either Wilson or Harding quick and you'll see what I mean. Sure there's still bare spots in the rough, inconsistent sand, and spotty tee boxes, but the fairways are medium fast with a good bounce for your irons. Enjoy quickly!

Ah....Warren G. Harding Municipal G.C.!! Still a joy to play after all of these years. All of the talk of slow play here can be erased by grabbing an early tee time. My starting-time was 6:42 A.M. on a Friday (3/07/03) - and when I got there at 6:15 - they asked if I wanted to tee-off early (I didn't). Just a hair *under* four-hours total. And the course was in great shape - fairways lish and greens true - (not nearly as incredible as Lakeside CC was today - but I'm not rating Lakeside!) - considering the amount of play this venerable old track gets in a week. Where else can you get great golf, at a great price, on a terrific, mature course, play in under four-hours - and practice speaking a little Korean - all in one place?? Harding!! That's where!!

Feb. 5th. Wednesday 11.00 tee time
Course is in good shape. Greens have good speed with the usual L.A. City bumps.
However, the view of 5 1/2 hours of moronathon golf was spectacular. The sideshow of two marshalls drinking coffee & eating at the snackbar, with not a care as to the pace of play, should not go unnoticed.

(Same review as Harding, both courses similar.) Been playing this course since I was 13 in 1973 and, despite the fact that it's consistently one of the busiest courses in LA, I still love it. The only downside is that you need an LA City card to make reservations, but you simply cannot beat the price. And kids (I belive 16 and under, check with the course) play for $5! Wide open and sometimes hard fairway grass, but some good elevation changes and a few tricky holes. A few have huge premiums for accurate short-cut shots and not too much penalty if you miss. Good practice facility (putting and chipping green and large practice sand trap) and their clubhouse makes the best breakfasts in Southern California.

Played on 12/29 (Sun). As you would expect, the course played very slow (5 1/2 hours). The greens were in the best shape I've seen at Griffith Park in a long time. Fairly fast and smooth, especially considering a pretty heavy rain the night before. The fairways were pretty shaggy. Some traps had some new, good quality sand. Overall, the course is in the best shape I've seen it in recent times. Good shape for a muni. They just need to put some serious marshalls out on the course. I can't understand why mgmt would want to allow the reputation it now has for slow pace of play.
