Course is starting to brown out from the summer heat which can be expected this time of year. Fairways getting a little thin in spots. Greens still pretty good. Certainly worth the twilight rate. Got around in 3.5 hrs on Saturday afternoon.

We almost didn't play because their weekday rate was too high... I believe it was $87, but my buddy found a tee time online for $59 on Thursday. The golf course layout is difficult for the average player, but not as demanding for a better player. Their clubhouse is very nice... Maybe even overbuilt and too nice--probably why the golf rates are higher than they should be. The service was average at best. Maybe I went in expecting more from reading the other reviews, but I was not impressed. The guys were usually friendly, but there are much better at other public golf courses. Greens were maybe a 9 to 9.5 on the Stimp, but seems like a very respectable speed for average golfers. Not a bad course, but you can get a better bang for your buck at other public courses.

Played with some friends and were treated extremely well as always by the staff. Course was dry in many areas and there were noticible areas of repair on some of the fairways. Nonetheless the conditions as a whole were very good and as always the greens were fast.

h8bogeys - "Hate Bogey's Review"
Played here with fellow Gkers on Sunday (July 6th) with an internet special for $49 at 2:00 p.m. Staff was absolutely amazing! Their motto on their scorecard "Feels like a country club, but it's not" is something to be commended for. They asked us 20 minutes before our tee time if we would like to be escorted to the first tee while we were warming up at the range with free range balls. We politely declined and they came back at our scheduled time to arrange for our departure to the first tee. Complimentary towels and tees were given to us and the pace was absolutely beautiful.

Fairways: Yes, as Kviser described the fairways are a little dry but that is to be expected during the last few heat waves. It's particularly hot out in Santa Clarita (my first time there) and of course a little more irrigation would help, but I'm sure cost plays a significant role to try to keep their respectable green fees low compared to other places. I thought the fairways were pretty decent, lots of roll off the tee box, and very well maintained.

Greens: As for the last review of being the "fastest greens in the West" I can't really compare how fast they were before being that this was my first time there, but IMHO they greens were a respectable 9 on the stimpmeter. The greens were pretty challenging with several ridges that you must carry on your approach shots or your looking at a possible three-putt. The fellow GKers who I played with game me lots of great advice on how to play this challenging lay-out.

Overall: The course is in great shape, a few dry areas are evident on the fairways due to this extreme heat exposure but nothing that will affect play during your round. Greens were in great shape, albeit they had an AGJA tournament which may have played a role on how the greens were cut. A little Poa Annua can be seen on the bent grass greens, but that is to be expected on most courses this time of year. Great course to play, but you better keep them straight or be prepared for a miserable round.

Played on July 6, 2008 with some other GKers. had a special rate e-mail, $49 after 2 p.m. on Sunday. The summer heat is starting to take its toll on the fairways. They really could run some irrigation during the day, it wouldn't hurt. You could see the dark spots where the fairways were stressing, although the grass was not burnt (yet). Tees were lush, but were showing some wear and tear. Greens did have some poa, but did not have too much effect on putts. However, it is no longer the home of the "fastest greens in the west." Sorry, RR. It just isn't that fast anymore. It used to be fast, now it is just medium fast. Not bad, though.

Played 7/3. Course in good shape. Greens were running fast and true. Good value at twilight. Teed off at 3pm and never saw a cart girl. She leaves at 4 and it was still in the 90's.

Robinson Ranch (Mountain) is a beautiful course. The conditions are top notch. Facilities are great, Staff is very good. Layout fair but demanding. Greens is great shape.

This is my first time out. You can probably shave 5 strokes from the first time to the second time out from course knowledge.

Would like to see them add GPS to the carts though.

Played Sunday afternoon, and the course was in great shape. Greens were diabolically fast, so they were a real test when it came to both chipping and putting, because it was difficult to get the ball to stop near the hole unless you were perfect. It's a challenging course -- you pretty much need to stay in the fairway if you're going to have any shot at par or better, and even then, you've always got a shot at getting a tricky uneven fairway lie. It also gets very, very hot out there... make sure you stay hydrated.

Played June 1. Very nice course. Picked it because of the reviews here. A little hard, especially since we drove in from AZ on vacation and was tired. Could not get drives in fairway very often. But it was perfect for dropping kids at 6 Flags.

Played the course Sunday afternoon, and the course was generally in good condition. The only major problem I had was probably due to playing in the afternoon: some of the fairways were a little "baked," and hitting the hard, dry ground caused some club bounce that led to mi sh$t s (especially with my short irons) and ruined a few good scoring opportunities. As mentioned previously, fairway bunkers were extremely hard; greenside bunkers the opposite. Greens seemed to play a little fast -- not in great shape, but not in horrible shape.

O.K. Now I know why it is slow. The greens have been infiltrated with poa annua, which is now in bloom. You know, tiny seedheads that make putting slightly bumpy. Once the home of "the fastest greens in the west", they are no better than the average muni.

I hope they can turn it around soon. It is a very fine golf course, with a great staff. I like the scenery: many great vistas, cool elevated tees, mighty oak trees, and challenging holes.

A previous post mentioned inconsistent sand in the traps. I noticed that the fairway bunkers needed attention, while greenside traps were pretty nice.

Played on Th., 5/01/08. Windy conditions mid morning to mid afternoon. Greens not as fast as they have been in past years. Bermudagrass rough has come out of its dormancy and is lush and green. Fairway bunkers hard packed, greenside bunkers nice, soft, white sand. Great course.

In very good condition right now. Greens were punched about three weeks ago and are healing nicely though a little long, slow and bumpy for RR. Sand traps are inconsistant (so was my sand play, so it was a good match) Enjoy now before it gets blown out or too hot.

Played the course yesterday. After experiencing all the rain that we have received in the last month, was surprisingly pleased at the conditions. The greens were a little slower than I've witnessed in the past and the pace of play was slow...4 hours and 45 minutes to finish the round. I didn't have anywhere to go so I just tried to keep a zen approach to the waiting. The staff has always been pleasant and the course has the best chicken
salad around.

greens were still fast, but was surprised how much damage there was. many old ball marks and not that smooth for a place that claims to have the "best greens in LA county". also surprised at some fairway damage, especially on #18, many areas of under repair. luckily did not pay full rate, otherwise would have disappointed by the conditions of a course that is normally in great shape.

Staff are very helpful and attentive. Played Mountain. Course is in great shape considering the drought we're in. Well groomed everywhere. Excellent fairways, with very few unrepaired divots. However, I wish more folks would fix their ball marks properly. Enjoyed the day and I'm thinking I might have to make this my home course.

Played 8/25 and finished in about 4.5 hours on a SAT afternoon. Course was in great shape, only people need to learn to fix ball marks on greens. Fairways were above average, greens rolled true, and layout is spectacular. Considering the heat, conditions were very good.

the greens were healing nicely until people decided not to fix their ball marks. Fairways were just so/so, bare in some areas, it seems the course is just getting too much play and cannot recover.

Played on 4/12/07 The greens were aerated and sanded - - but they were playable. Wind was a factor. Man...does it get windy out there! Give the greens about a month and they will be back to being the best greens in all of So. Cal.

One playing tip: Play from the appropriate tees for you handicap! This is all the course you need from the white boxes...don't try to be a hero. Unless you like to lose golf balls! "Keep yourself in play" is the best motto here. Hit an iron off the tee! Not on the Par-5's - but - keeping it in the short-grass is the smart play at either Robinson Ranch course!!

There are few courses that compete with this track as far as view, and serenity would be of concern. Greens rolled true- although they are tricky to read for break. Speed is very consistent. Fairways are very good, generally speaking, a little lush in places. Avoid windy days- or you will be punished badly, as this course has narrow landing areas . Of particular note- the tee shot @ 11 is CRUCIAL to keep in play- keep it LOW, or else grab a nother ball out of your bag when the wind blows- it is no joke. The staff is attentive, and curteous, ready to help you if you have any concerns. There is no GPS on the carts- but the fairways are marked excellently with yardages marked (front, middle, back) on sprinkler heads. They will offer you a "pin grid" before you tee off, and the carts designate pin location for each of the holes. Food is OK, not the best I have had- but not horrible. Have fun- and remember- hit it LOW!!!!!

played 3.18.07. @ 9am...course is in excellent condition. Even with the morning dew the greens were rolling fast and true. Teeboxes were great and fairways were in good condition. Had to repair other people's ball marks on the back 9....i guess the front groups were getting lazy?

I played on New Year's Day, using c4tt online, got a good rate at 11:50. My playing partner also got his on c4tt. We pretty much had the course to ourselves, with a foursome letting us play through on 16 (started on 10). We played a leisurely round of about 4 hours, taking our time on most shots. Greens fast (10.5 on stimp) and smooth. Very windy conditions did cause some debris from oak trees to litter some greens, mostly not a problem. Typical good service and course conditions, if you don't mind dormant rough.

Its been 2 years since I last played Robinson Ranch. Last time I played, I played the Valley Course. I decided to take the day off from work and play the Mountain Course for the first time. Man, I thought the Valley Course was hard, the Mountain Course is the same. The course had narrow fairways, blind tee shots, and elevation changes. Plus you factor in winds at 25-30 mph and you have a stiff test for your golf game. I think I lost 8 to 10 balls during my round. With all that said, I still had a great time. The course was in great shape (greens in great shape: ball rolls true), staff was great, and the views were awesome. What also made my round enjoyable was the 2 for 1 coupon I found on www.golfq.com (2 for $89 including cart). My only complaint was I wished I would of dressed for the weather conditions. I can't wait to go back and play again.

Country club for a day! The staff is extremely courteous. The course was in good shape (Mountain); one can't praise the place enough for its beauty, and the overall design of the holes. It was everything I expected. A nice day of golf. The layout is a bit of a test for the crooked shooters. If you don't hit it straight, or even worse, you can't predict where it will go (ugh), then bring your leggings and a ball retriever 'cause you are in for a tough day. My playing partners were in the scrub brush almost every hole. Beer cart was a sight for sore eyes.

Played Saturday 5/6 after playing the Valley several weeks back. Course is in good shape. Greens almost all the way back. Pace was good. Several changes of note since the ownership change, all negative. Still $117 on weekend. No more free range balls,no grass range, no free water. Most of all, no more GPS. I was told by the pro shop it was to expensive for them to keep. While most courses are adding things to draw players, this course is subtracting. Great course but not a great value unless playing weekday or twilight.

Played Thursday (3/23) 8:30 Tee Time. Course in good shape but it took FIVE HRS to play. We started on number 10 and when we got to #18 you could look across the street and see the green of #1 and all of #2 and the Tee Box of #3. Four men (one on his cell phone) just gitting to #1 green and no one on #2 or #3 Tee Box. We got to our ball off the tee and the Marshall came by to ask how we were and I told him what we saw. He said he was going to look into this and he would get things going. We NEVER say him or any Marshall again.

Finish this course under 4 hours. Played at 8:30am and there was hardly anybody out there. Conditions are great. The rough is dormant but the fairways were awesome. There a few sandtraps that are getting fill but the sand was great and fluffy. The greens were typical Robie Ranch, fast and hard. Ball marks were more apparent with holes that played front. A bit breezy but really enjoyed the round.

I enjoyed this 18 much more than the other side. It's always nice seeing the ball roll smooth and true. The dormant rough frames the landing area and helps you find the fairways. No guesswork on tee shots. Highly recomend this course.

Got out on 10/13. Greens still showing signs of aeration and are a little slower than normal. Great Fairways and boxes. Traps were terrible, rock hard, everyone of them...but at least they were consistently hard!

Now for my first rant about RR, hopefully this does not sound like one of the frequent rants against the PGA courses!!

Marshall was out of control....it was cart path only due to over seeding of fairways. OK, we get that and the carts never touched, or came close to an over seeded section of the course. Also, remember that the rough at RR is bermuda and it goes dormant in a few more weeks. Partner has cart about 10 ft off of the path in the bermuda rough. Ranger starts to scream across several fairways (and a street) about cart path only. Said marshall hauls butt and confronts us as we are on the green. He starts to agressively berate us about maintaining the course in proper condition. When told the cart was only on the rough, he indicated that he did not care. The situation became very tense and we finally just ignored him. After a few more "kind words" the Marshall gets in his cart and heads away. But guess what he does in the process of turning his cart around......makes a circle into the rough, goes across a portion of the fringe and heads out!!! What ever happened to leading by example?????

I just played the course on saturday as it came out of overseeding. fairway grass is thin and ground is dry and hardpacked. My playing partner mentioned it was easier hitting out of the rough!
Greens are punched and very slow...basically suitable for practice. The good news-fees are reduced, I only paid weekday rates on Saturday.
Given the care there, I would suspect this course will be back in top shape within weeks.

As always any course of RR GC KEEPS GREAT CONDITIONS TO PLAY .But this time I realized that they eliminated GPS system however not affected my game. But ,yessssss the typical valley high temperature feels more than 100 degrees after finishing I had headache & nausea. How I missed the breeze of Talega GC.
I'M wondering they definitely eliminated GPS or in process of changing for new equipment?

Not sure what's happened over the last few weeks but the course has gone a bit down hill in comparison to the posting below. The greens are severly marked up with unfixed ball marks everywhere. The sand traps really should be called sand trap surprize because if you find sand in them you may just yell out SURPRIZE! I have seen softer parking lots quite frankly. While the tee boxes and fairways are nice the rough is completely unforgiving and since there is not a second cut, a well struck tee shot that rolls 2 inches off the fairway because the fairway slopes that way is severly affected. Not quite sure that is really fair. Anyway the views are quite nice and the course layout is okay but not in my opinon worth the green fees. We teed off at 2:00pm and in over 90 degree weather never saw the refreshment cart once which would not have been that bad if there was water in the collers provided by the tee boxes. Every one of the water coolers were completely empty. Quite honestly I think Angeles National is a far superior value.

Tremendously challenging course that requires a full range of golf shots and a lot of accuracy (both of which I wish I had!).

The slopes and undulations of many of the fairways can leave you with an angular lie even after a good tee shot, so club and shot selection become very important. Especially on the back 9, the elevation changes can be very deceptive when you're trying to figure out which club to play. It's easy to get into trouble on many of these holes unless you're bringing your "A" game, especially with the native vegetation in such close proximity.

While I wouldn't call the greens "easy," I would call them "straightforward." They break where you think they'll break, but you better have your speed right when you're going downhill, or you'll be looking at a 3- or 4-putt. While the condition of the greens is generally excellent, it would be nice if more players repaired their ball marks, because there are several pock-marks on some of these greens. The only green that seemed to be having any kind of serious trouble was #17, which had an area of beige (seemingly caused by mowing equipment, based on the pattern) in the tier transition. Oh, and apparently the water temperature must be optimal this time of year, too, since a few of my golf balls decided they wanted to take a swim...

Great course, and if you're still in the learning phase, it will probably manage to expose every flaw in your game at some point in your round and give you plenty of fodder for your next several lessons.

Played 8/14 in a 36 hole tournament. Course is in absolutely great shape. These are the best greens I ever play. Very tough course, really no rough, just fairway and either hazard or o.b. Lots of elevation changes. Only problem were inconsitancy in some of the traps, some had lots of soft sand, some were hardpan. Excellent service, really a beautiful course.

Great course - immaculate condition except for the sand traps as mentioned in previous posts. Drastic elevation changes plus severe winds make yardage estimates difficult. Greens were rather slow, most had sand on them and looked like they had been aerated recently. Putts rolled true but were rather bumpy. I enjoy this course much more than Valley which is just too narrow for me.

NO MORE GPS. This course used to be worth the DISCOUNTED greens fees, but now it's barely worth it. Course isn't as well kept as it used to be with the exception of the greens. The traps are horrible. My recent service was just as bad. I booked valley for my special golf outing, had a printed confirmation, was forced onto mtn despite valley being open, and was treated rudely throughout the day. Again, no more GPS making play difficult if you don't know the course b/c there isn't a map on the scorecard.

Great course overall. Greens were awesome, firm fast and true. My complaint, terrible sand traps. They were so hard and packed. This rating could have pushed for a 8.5 + but the sand traps were terrible. Stick with your 3 wood, keep it in play. Getting hot, got a little heat exhaustion around the 15 th hole.

One of my favorite courses......worst part is getting there ....going north on the 405 .
I have played here 4 times and really love it.....wish the greens could be a little softer.

Played 4/9/05 sat.12;50 .Originally reserved Valley but switched to Mountain cause of recent aeration of greens. Each time coming here to play with expectation ,never disapponited. Except aerated greens(seasonal must do,no complaint) everything in perfect conditions. After 2-3 weeks this course will be one of the best golf course of So Cal ,no doubt.

Played course a week after they aerated the greens with the big holes. Don't play it until they heal. Its not worth the trip. Some fairways had truck tracks in the middle of the fairway.

Played twi-light on 3/13. Kudos to the starter for starting us on the back 9 and asking a playing 4 some if my group of 2 and step in front, since there was a big opening. This helped us to easily complete a round of 18 that started at 2:15. The course is in great shape. The greens were aerated with the thin slots. This did not seem to alter the roll of the putts, and was more of a visible distraction only. For $69 you get all the range balls on a nice grass range and 18 on a course in great condition. As far as the course lay-out, the Mountain will always play 2nd, or 3rd, fiddle to the Valley.

The golf course is in great shape as usual. Weather was perfect for golf with a little breeze throughout the round. Robinson Ranch remains a great golf facility and with 2 for 1 coupons from Red Dot discount books, it is a great deal both weekdays and weekends. Pace of play was not great but it is ok for the weekend at 4.5-5 h. All in all, Robinson Ranch is a great place to play golf if you are a 12 index or better.

Played both courses 11/16 for $85 (total) with coupons from golfq.com. Good deal at the price. Course is responding well to the recent seeding and is in much better shape than last time I played in August. Lush fairways and Tee boxes and the typically great RR greens. The rough is going dormant and the brown bermuda beautifully frames the green fairways. I like the look. Still cart path only.

Nice experience. Played on a Sunday afternoon and took a little over 4 hours despite cartpathe only. Not clear why carts weren't allowed on the course. Very playable even for a high handicapper as there are very few forced carries. Greens were outstanding - after I realized that despite being soft they were FAST. Only negative feature are the sand traps - they were so hard that I started chipping the ball out. The quoted weekend greens fee of $117 is out of line but at $58.50 using the GolfExtra card it was a good deal. Can't wait until I go back and play the Valley course.

I liked the course, and the service was mostly good. We played the first few holes with one of the marshals. He was quite pleasant, but we ran into the same "pro/jerk" one of the previous posters ran into, he made the experience unpleasant to say the least.

You can't beat this course in So. Cal. The greens and fairways are beginning to show signs of wear at the end of summer, but no truer putting surfaces can be found in all of LA.

These greens are simply the best I've ever played on EVERY TIME I play here! Period! The fairways were really poor. (Perhaps getting ready to overseed???) I like these courses more every time I play them. On this last visit I found the "pro" to be totally unprofessional and lacking in any kind of public service. He is indifferent, kurt and just flat out unfriendly. The wrong kind of guy for the job! Too bad, because the rest of the staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Played Robinson's Ranch today. The greens were excellent, smooth and fast. Fairways were OK. There were some fairway areas where they lost the grass but it just amounted to a tight lie. Looks like a fungus. Amenities were good but the driving range was not open in the morning. I played at a senior discount which they only offer on Tuesday. Wish they offered this rate on other days during the week. They might get more play.

Played both the Mountain and Valley on 6/29. Mountain still in great shape, although this is the "little sister" of the two courses as far as character and layout, it was in better condition than the valley. Not very long ,6000 yds from the blues, but you need to keep it in the short grass. There is not much rough at either RR course, it is either in the short stuff, or in the baranca.
The staff was saying that Heritage Golf was buying the RR from Troon Golf and the deal had to close by 6/30. Rumor has it that they are planning ontaking the Valley course, possibly both, private.

Much easier track than Valley with the same quality. Worth the discounted fees mentioned before. Greens were rolling perfect with the exception of balls mark scars. Been here a few times, and this course seems to consistantly attract whole groups of hacks. By the third, the group in front of us was already three holes behind, they never waived us up, and the marshall didn't even speed them up when I asked for some help. Kindof ruined an otherwise great day of golf.

Mountain course was in great shape today. My frist time playing the course, visually deceptive course. Many elevated tee boxes with ungulating fairways and forced carries. This course is not a mad bombers course, very tight with some blind shots needed. I looked for the 150 black and white striped pole as my target, and it payed off. There are 4 or 5 very short par 4's that you maybe able to drive if you can hit it with the big boys! I worked a lot of iron shots and it payed off for me. The only blemish on this great day was that there are WAY TOO MANY BALL MARKS LEFT UNFIXED!!!!!!!! SHAME ON YOU, BEND OVER AND FIX YOUR BALL MARKS. The greens must have had 20-40 little half-dollar brown marks all over. Remember this is a gentleman's game, I forget sometimes to act like one just like you all do. Leave the course in better shape than you played it!

Played Saturday 4/24. Teed off @ 12:20 as a 3some and didn't see anyone in front or behind us til the 6th hole. Was well worth the discounted green fee of $69 with the coupons from golfq.com. We enjoyed the course very much although the Mountain course plays a little short if you're a long hitter. Conditions were excellent except for a few green that had quite a few ball marks. Will definately return to play the Vallery course.

Played this Friday at 11.30 for $58.50 for each person using a 2 for 1 coupon available from Red Dot Golf Discounts. Very worth it for this price. The mountain course is not my favorite course around because it is a little too short and too tight. The valley course is a more suitable track. Thats why they had a NFL tournament the day we played on the Valley course. The course conditions were nice. I recommend playing the Valley course if you are travelling at least an hour away because it is more worthwhile.

Played Mountain course on 4/15 with golfextracard discount. Was well worth the price.Don't know if I could afford it on the weekends without discount.Greens are very large and fairly firm. There were a lot of ball mark scars which was hard to understand since they were so hard to make.Greens rolled very well and true. Most players can play from the blue tees as the course is not very long.Like most course the key is keeping it in play of the tee boxes so a driver is not always the club to hit.Staff was helpful and pace of play was also good. I never did see a marshal and one was only needed once or twice.Would like to play again but not sure I can afford the weekend rates without a discount.

Played both the Valley & Mountain courses today for only $60 (total) with a coupon from golfq.com. That was the best $60 I ever spent. The entire experience was perfect, from the weather, to the course conditions, and the service. RR should be on everyone’s must play list right now. I have played the Valley course about 5 times in the last 6 months, but this was my first time on the Mountain course. Valley is one of the best tracks around and will continue to be my preferred course. Mountain requires some precision shot making and offers some very challenging holes. But I prefer the way Valley meanders thru the hills and valleys of Sand Canyon giving you the sense that no one else around. Valley does not have that same feel as you are against some private properties, roads, maintenance buildings etc...
The bermuda rough is beginning to come back to life, but I have really enjoyed the dormant brown rough beautifully shaping the fairways.

Played Sunday 2-22. It had rained all day Saturday, and Sunday night. The rain broke, so I headed up to Robinson knowing it wouldn't be crowded. This place turns into a grave yard the second rain is in the forecast. Well it ended up not raining hard at any one point. Some sprinkles, some sun, some wind, but overall conditions were great.

Arrived at the course at 11:45, used my $60 coupon, and away I went. I went out on the Mountain as the Valley had a few foursome on it that I would surely catch.

This course holds up pretty well to all the wet weather. Some low spots collect water, but the greens remain absolutely perfect. The tees were perfect, The fairways were pretty much perfect, except for those few low spots that had puddles, and the couple of bunkers I ended up in weren't bad at all despite all the rain.

Greens still maintained some of their firmness, but reatined all of their speed. Some tough pin positions today were out there, and I left myself in the wrong spots. Fun none the less.

I decided to play the tips just for the heck of it. I'm honestly not so sure if the tips play that much harder than the blues. By going back a few yards, and having soft lush fairways, the landing areas became much wider on most holes, allowing me to go at it with a driver.

Only thing wrong today was Number 4 the short par 3 was missing its flagstick. Someone also took a dump in the hole. it looked like some tissue was thrown on top of it, but I wasn't about fo find out. I gave myself that 2 foot putt for par, and carried on. Was a little surprised it wasn't taken care of, but without many players for the day, I can overlook it. LOL!

Robinson Ranch remains to be the golf course with the best greens I have played on. However, the mountain course had sandy greens which slowed down its pace. The course condition was good as always. Played with my buddy and we completed in 3h 20min. This golf course provides a great challenge and I would recommend it even if you live 1h and a half away.

Played today and it was a customer appreciation day. Greens fees were 55 dollars and included range balls, bbq lunch, a raffle for a nice golf cart and an on course golf contest. Pretty nice day!!! The course conditions were good. However, the valley course was in better shape than the mountain course. As always, the mountain course requires accurate tee shots. I would like to thank the pro shop staff for being very courteous and making the day memorable.

I was given a "free" pass to play the Mountain Course. "Free" actually meant the $25 cart fee. Still a bargain compared to regular fees. Excellent customer service, but the fiarways are bare in may spots and I didn't have a putt ALL DAY that didn't have a ball mark in my way. Surprising that golfers and maintenance crews don't work harder on caring for the greens. Glad my round was "free" ... usually costs up to 5x more than I paid, which seems rather over-priced. Sorry.

It is true. The fairways are dry--like a municipal course, think Rancho, Encino. The greens however are immaculate (an 11.5 today on the stimp). First time I played--too short a course even from the tips.

Played Mountain today for the first time. I'm wondering when they are going to bust out the water? I know water is expensive but so are the green fees.

Mountain is an extremely nice layout, challenging and requires a person who has a nice tee shot.

The greens are as hard as a rock, if you hit the ball too hard you might as well tee off again. Over all the greens are awesome.

For 140.00 one would want the fairways to be green. I saw more brown then green on every fairway.

Overall its a great course, nice people, good food (try the cheese burger, its freakin huge) and great atmosphere. I still cant get over the brown fairways for 140.00. For the money and the way the fairways are now, spend less then half of that and go to Rustic Canyon.

Cheese said it best, the greens friggin rock!!

I played the "Mountain" course on Monday, 6/9. As always - a mixed-bag for me. Fairways were uneven, some bare patches, watering patterns need work, some tight-lies - some fluffy in the same fairway. Not very pretty - while the rest of the premier SoCal golf courses are emerald green and pristine this time of year - much of the fairway grass is dormant and brown (or is it dead from poor watering?)

So, what's the "good part" of your review, Cheese? The friggin' greens, man! U.S. Open speeds and near-perfect rolls. Depending on pin-placement - give yourself a "smiley-face" on the scorecard for every time you are able to pull off a two-putt!! Whatever kind of bent-grass hybrid they chose for Robinson Ranch's greens - they could sell it to Brunswick as a felt-replacement for pool tables! You can certainly tell where the RR people are spending their time and money - on these fabulous greens!! Awesome! Also - only $42.50 with GolfExtra Card discount coupon!!
