I now know the sweetspot of tee times! You get a decent price for green fees ($31) non-resident walking and you can finish with enough light left in the day to finish 18 and something from the "honey-do" list. Played Thursday at Wilson. Greens were in good shape -- very receptive. Fairways also in good shape. It showed signs of being watered constantly. Sand traps were well stocked. Pace of play was suprisingly good. Played in under 4 1/2 hours. We followed a foursome. We started as a threesome off the tee but was joined by a single. We played fast. 3 walking with 1 (the single) riding. I have always liked the Griffith Park GCs and I was not disappointed. For the amount of play this and Harding gets, the course is in great shape. Greens are typical munis but you get what you pay for. They are still challenging without too many bounces. Just folks... FIX THOSE DIVOTS.... they never fix themselves.

Got out at 1pm and finished in about 4 1/2 hrs. The round went relatively smooth with hardly a wait on the tee boxes except until the final 4 holes. The heat finally got to the group ahead of us but the pace was still very respectable.

The course itself is crisp. As in, burnt and very dry. The best part of the course was the sand as they were filled and fluffy. If you can get past how brown this course is right now then you will enjoy one of the best values in the city.

Played today and didn't tee off on time which is typical on that course. Usually it's 15 to 20 min after your tee time. Started out a little slow and then it started to pick up after the 3rd hole. The fairways were in good shape. You had some roll after the ball hit the fairways. The greens were also in good shape and had some pace to them.

Played Wilson Park for the 1st time this afternoon. The round took a little over 5hrs to play, however, it could have been better if there was more efficiency on the Par 3s. Average wait on every Par 3 was about 10 min. Maybe thats why the course only has 3 of them or maybe its the July 4th crowd.

Back tees played 6949yds. Great for those who grip n ripp cuz this course has huge fairways and even a miss into the rough isn't too bad in most spots. Just don't miss into the many tree lines that separate the fairways.

Greens were slow for my liking. Take a good whack at that 30 footer cuz they are bumpy and could use a trim. This was the case on all the greens.

Overall I feel that you get what you pay for and I'm not complaining. With the current water conservation directive going on right now I see how easily any course can be dry and patchy as was the case at Wilson.

I'll be back on this track very soon!!

Played this morning 7/3/08 tee'd off at 7:06 and finished the round in just under 4 1/2 hours.. The city is now charging resident rates and you must present your Registration card, or Drivers License.

Pace of play was suspect for the first 3 holes, but it really opened up after that. I haven't played here in a few years, but I must admit I was pleasantly surprised on how well kept this course is..

The tee boxes are level, lush, and don't have a ton of divots. The fairways are green, manicured, and in good shape.. Few dead spots but not too bad.. Traps looked good (fortunately I wasn't in any of them, the whole round).. Greens hard to start the round, but softened up.. Held shots well, but very very slow.. Overall a good round, and I would come back!!

Well kept most of the year. Can be played in 3+ hrs. early on. Probably 5 or more later in the day, especially on the weekends. Prices go up 7-1-08, 3 to 10 dollars. Non-resident fees start also. To get resident fees, you must get a registration card, $25 for residents, or else pay non-resident fees.

Greens are a bit bumpy and while the holes have healed from being punched the roll is still affected but they are fairly fast; lots of bare spots in the rough; fairways and tee boxes in great condition. Overall a very nice muni and an easy course to walk.

Great LA muni course, greens play well and tee boxes are kept well.
There can be a wait on weekends but faster on Sundays.
Overall fun course for the price.

played 5-13-08

Greens are GREAT and appear to have healed well from aeration. Greens are on the soft side and awesome for ball stopping action. There aren't even that many ball marks making for some really good ball rolling. The tee boxes are spongy lush and surprisingly free from dead tees. It was a great day.

Played December 5, 2007. Overall conditions were average. Most fairways are thin in spots and several have been punched with holes still visible and not filled in. Hole 10 is a whole other catagory which I would almost characterize and being plowed! They were deep punching while we were playing through, and it appears they were doing it two directions side-to-side and foward-backward. I have never seen a fairway so deeply punched with big divots also pulled up an inch or so. Starter failed to mention when teeing off. Well all the fairways are somewhat thin and need work, so since we're finally getting a little rain, I suspect the grounds superintendant thinks now is a good time. Hopefully they'll get back soon. 10th hole is going to take a little longer. Pace of play was 5 1/2 hours which is, unfortunately, typical. I enjoy playing here, but won't be back very soon.

Cheeseburger - Pasadena, CA
Wilson is alive and well. I had not played here in probably 5 or 6 years - and I used to play it (and Harding) all of the time. An old friend (who had not picked up his clubs in over a year) and I decided that a good, "cheap" round would be best to get him back in the "swing" of things. We met at Griffith Park many years ago, so - we thought that a retrun to our old "stomping grongs" would be good for nostalgia, if nothing else.

Well...we were more than pleased. Yesterday (Halloween) - we showed up at 9:30 A.M. and wanted to be put on the waiting list as a twosome. By 9:45, we had our carts and were teeing off on #1. Nice touch with pumpkins as tee markers on the first-tee.

Overall, the tee-boxes were good, the fairways were good, the bunkers looked good (I didn't end up in a single sand trap all day!) - and the greens, although recently plugged and sanded - were surprizingly good. They were a little bumpy, but - you can tell that in another week or two, they will be as good as any in town.

I forgot that this course can be a real bear if you don't find the short grass. Although I understand that there are many less trees (a die off of eucalyptus and other trees that fell in storms, the Griffith Park fire had no effect on the course.) on Wilson...you still gotta stay out of the tree-line if you want to score well.

From the blue tees, (and yesterday, the blue tees were playing from the tips, beyond the actual blue "stones") - it's almost 7,000 yards. Some HONEST par-4's and at least one MONSTER par-5. Unless you're a big hitter - plan on a lot of long-irons into the greens at Wilson (some of which are pretty small, demanding accuracy!)

The snack shack and bathrooms are much improved since the last time I was out at Griffith Park. The four-foursome backup at the "turn" (if I recall - it's actually between #11 and #12) - could have been avoided with a marshall stationed there.

Even with the HALF-HOUR DELAY (no kidding!) - we still managed to get around in 4.5 hours.

The fairways were pretty thick and there were no major bare areas. The rough is not too long, but - you didn't want to be in it.

I like both Griffith park courses...but - I think that Wilson is the more interesting of the two.

I gotta say...for the price and the short drive from Pasadena, a finer day of golf could not have been had. I WILL be back!

Played this course for the first time on Sat. and I really enjoyed it. Tee's and fairways were in great shape but the greens left something to be desired. Unrepaired ball marks on almost every green I was on. Otherwise I loved the course.

Fun layout. More fun than harding, and a little longer and tougher to boot.

First. FIX YOUR FREAKING BALL MARKS!! Greens would be an 8 or 9 out of 10 if people were not such a-holes. God. Its not that hard. Yes, golfers are to blame, but the golfcourse shares some responsibility. Have the starter remind EVERY GOLFER to repair ball marks and fill divots. SELL OR GIVE AWAY DIVOT TOOLS! Give a little how to pamphlet at the first tee.

Besides that everything was in good condition. All tee-boxes, fairways, rough, sand in summer condition, but not too many bare spots. Good job their Griffifth Park. The greens...not so much.

Tee off @ 6am and finished @10:04am. The pace was great. The tee box and fairways are in terrible shape with plenty of GIR. This course needs major makeover. The greens are however smooth and in good shape. Bring bug repellent. Starter did not like us paying by credit card separately and he kept complaining. Marshall was a kid and inexperience. He kept asking us to speed up when the group behind us was a hole back and out of sight. What do you expect from LA city course?

Played nine holes for the super twilight rate of $8. You can't beat this deal anywhere in the LA metro area. I played by myself and was able to finish the round in 1:30. It would have been faster but I had never played the Wilson course so it took me awhile to get my bearings. The course is in pretty good condition considering the amount of hacks that walk that course daily! The greens were receptive, the sand traps seemed soft (I was never in one), the fairways were ok and the tee boxes were functional. I think I will make a habit of playing here every Tuesday after work. The course itself isn't very tough. I played from the tips and was a sultry +2 on the front. There are an inordinate amount of trees so I would advise you to stay in the fairway. I saw a lot of people in the forest searching for lost balls. All in all, a quality place to play if you are looking to have a cheap, relaxing 9 holes of golf.

For those of you who have played griffith park you may know what I am about to say. For those who haven't, take heed. The course is in fine shape right now and the greens are in the best shape in many years. However, that being said you need to bring some sort of insect repellent. The d%mn knats or bugs or whatever they are called are everywhere. They got in my ears, eyes, you name it. So if you are going to play there this summer bring some off or deet or something .

Great courses here as long as you get past the torture of checking in! Played here the other morning & the Starter was out smoking right next to the sign that said this is a non-smoking facility. Two staff members were out there smoking while a long line was standing there waiting to check in. I got to the front of the line when the Starter said something to me. I couldn't hear him because between the pro shop (where you check in from) and the Starter is this thick acrylic glass wall. When I said "excuse me?" he was really irritated I didn't hear him. Then when I got my receipt I asked if the tee was running late (because it usually is & I would have ordered breakfast if it was). He got pissed off again & said "just listen for your number!". This isn't the first time the Starter has been a jerk. Who the hell is running this place. Please give the staff some customer service training. By the way, great courses to play!

Play here Thursday 4/26 in a tournament. Fairways were not in good shape, three long par fives which is a good thing. Greens were in great shape and fast and broke a lot. I had my worst putting game of my life. 44 putts I average 30 putts. I wouldn't rush to play here any time soon.

And this place has the highest myte population in the world. Always kicks up my allergies. I like the track, but never play here cuz of crowds, so nice to hit around on it today.

The greens are still suffering the effects of aeration, a bit slow with bumpiness. But after playing 2 days in a row there was noticable improvement the 2nd day. Many fairways are quite chewed up, but then there are some that are good shape. Hit & miss right now.

checked in 20 mins before my tee time like we're suppose to do, and tee off 45 mins past my tee time. WHAT THE HELL! Wasnt the first time either. Wilson is the only course that has this problem. You pay for you green fee, then you realize your 8 or 10th up. Thats like 45 mins to an hour away before you hit your first tee shot. Whats the point of making a tee time, when you dont tee off at your time? The starters suck here!

Do not play here Saturday when you don't have tee time before 8am. It takes about 6 hours to finish the whole round. If you intend for less traffic then playing Harding course next door but the course is shorter and the green is slower right now. You will save about 30 minutes playing 5 1/2 hour during weekend.

Otherwise, play monday or tuesday and make sure you check if they have any tournaments then the course itself is a terrific deal for the type of layout for muni course.

I played yesterday on President's Day. It rained the night before and continued to rain until Monday morning; therefore, we were able to walk on around 11:25 am instead of keeping our original tee time. The course conditions were good w/ a few muddy spots throughout the course due to the rain. The fairways had some brown areas and were very firm. The greens were damp and slow, but not bumpy. Wilson's always worth my green fee.

Played yesterday Saturday 1/20. The course was very dry. Fairways were very dry and majority of the fairways had areas where the grass was yellow or bare in spots. The fairways grounds were very hard in addition. One good thing was that your balls would go farther. The greens were in good condition. Saw the groundskeeper water the greens on a lot of holes which made for slow putts. On other greens, they were dry and tend to have fast putts. We had an early tee time. It took us about 4 1/2 hours to play. Can't beat the price to play here.

I could really do without the stereotypes about Asian golfers. I'm Asian, and I bet I play faster and better than most players on this board.

I recognize that there's quite a few of us around the golf courses. But this is LA and to be expected. I've seen many, many White golfers just blow up a round because they belong on the Par-3 course.

Greens in the best shape Ive seen in years. Overall course condition was very good. Pace of play sucks as always. We had a group in front of that was a hole behind much of the back nine. Marshals here NEVER move slow play along. So sit back, relax and watch every asian foursome hit from the blues regardless of ability. Be prepared for five hour+ if you tee off before 9am, closer to six in the afternoon.

I just played WILSON GC and I had a great time as I was pleasantly surprised at the nice condition it was in. The greens were great as usual but the maintenance crew has obviously been working hard to get this course in shape for the summer rush. A very good round of golf with little to complain about. The fairways are about as good as it gets for this course right now. Check it out!

Played 6/16, fri. A minor miracle happenned this Friday morning. I went to Wilson GC as a 2some, at about 6:30am, fully expecting to be waitlisted for over an hour. Got there, and not only was there an opening 3rd off for 2, but there was NOBODY on the wait list!! Teed off at 7!! This was after spending the whole 20 min ride to the course telling my buddy how long we would have to wait.
Anyways, haven't played here in over 2 yrs because of the crowds. Course is in excellent shape. Greens are in good shape, tough to read. The rough is alot thicker than I remember. Not lose your ball, thick... grab your hosel thick. Take an extra club or two. Played in under 4 hrs!!!!

Played Wed. 04-25-06. Wilson still needs at least 2 weeks to recover from punching. I failed to check my trusty greenskeeper.org to see how long it had been since the punch, or else I would have played elsewhere. Everything else, including pace of play, was great. With the exception of playing as a rabbit, I have never played here in 3.5 hours. Great pace yesterday! It almost made me forget about the horrid greens.

Played on Saturday afternoon. Bit crowd and had to wait about an hour.
Course condition is just OK. Currently Harding course is better condition than Wilson. Due to rain, all tees are on Red. Didn't like the fairways but greens are OK. Wish all golfers fix their own ball marks. After the morning rain, greens are soft and there were many ball marks on the greens. To make it worse, some golfers spit sun flower seeds on the greens. Golfers, let us be more considerate and respect the golf courses and each other.
Pace was bit slow and I had to finish the last two holes in the dark.
It wasn't a great day... but overall I am thankful and glad that I could able to play. Weather was beautiful in the afternoon.

Lastly, I believe there will be some kind of LA tournaments being held this weekend at the golf courses. Call before you go in. You might not able to play this weekend.

Have a Hole in One week and conquer another course this week.

Heavy rain last night so no carts. How wonderful!!! Able to walk on and play in about four hours. The course was in better condition than I expected, particularly after reading the recent reviews. The greens were the best part of the course. It was like playing in a time warp, an old traditional course where everyone was walking. Golf the way it was meant to be played!

What a shame! I remember the buzz around Wilson when they used the first tee for the first "I am Tiger Woods" commercial. Still a great layout but horrible greens (slow and a hundreds of unfixed ball marks), dirt thin fairways, divot infested tee boxes. Where's the maintenance budget going? Personally I don't think they care too much because the course is always packed. Last week I came by on Friday, starter tells me it's going to be at least a two hour wait for a 5 hour plus round. I leave, come back dawn patrol Saturday, wait over an hour, get out only to be horrified by the playing conditions. NO MORE Wilson or Harding. Not for a long time at least. I'll brave the long waits at Rancho Park, at least I know the wait will be worth it. I'll spend extra to play Brookside. I'll drive a little further and play Debell. DONE WITH THIS COURSE.

Played sat, 2/4. Hey, its LA City golf, what do you expect? Some tee boxes uneven, and yes there are a few heavily pocked marked greens, but for $28 and with all the play the course gets, I kind of expect it. All you can do is fix your ball mark plus one, and know you at least did your part. Disappointment is a function of expectation when it comes to playing our local muni's.

There are literally hundreds of pitch marks, mostly unrepaired & scabbed over , on these greens. It's the worst I've seen in 20 years of playing here.
How hard is it to bend over & fix it???

paid for green fee and waited 50 mins to hit my first shot. Just doesnt seem right. You should only pay if there is two groups at the tee box. Not 6!

Course is in fairly decent shape. The greens rolled nicely for the most part, but there are many brown scabbed over pitch marks from people not cleaning up after themselves.

Played on wed. the forth for the first time. What can I say it is what it is a course that at one time might have been very nice but lack of city money and lots of play has taken its toll. Its a shame this could be a very nice course Mr. Raygoza?

Played 10/30/2005. The greens were aerated and it would take another two to three weeks for regular condition. There was less traffic because the greens were aerated and people were playing the harding course more. The fairways were in decent shape. You have to really hit it twice the speed required on the green to reach the cup. Rate current condition at 4.

Played Wilson on saturday , was actually in pretty decent condition. Greens were rolling very smooth. Compared to Harding, Wilson's greens are in great condition. If given the choice, play Wilson.

Although it took almost 6 hours to play the course the course was in terrific condition for this time of year and the amount of play it gets. The greens were the best I've seen them with a good roll and not at all much bouncing. They held well and were not that badly marked up.
The tee boxes were all in good condition and while the rough in places seem like an test of how many different grasses one could grow together there were no bare spots to speak of.
The biggest downside was the time it took to play. After the 1st hole took almost 30 minutes play I thought for a while it wasnt worth it no matter how inexpensive it was to play. Once I came to terms that I should just enjoy the company, the weather, the walk and the sights and be able to make a swing when I could it became a nice day.

Played this morning, and having this been my first round at Wilson in a few years, I left impressed with the conditions. The Fairways are in excellent shape and the greens are nice, soft and roll true. I'd forgotten what a well designed course this is. Might have to change my moniker to wilsongolfer.

played friday at noon. got out in 15 min. on waiting list. i couldn't believe we didn't have to wait on every tee box. we played under 5 hours,it could've been faster if golfers didn't "picnic" at the half way point. greens rolled well and the fairways were lush. tee boxes were lumpy. get out there before the summer heat

Played 4/12: The course played great today, wished I did.
The greens are still sandy and have holes in them, but are still playable.
Give them another week or two then watch out!
The fairways are great, and what can you say about the layout this has a
feel of a private course. This is the only place you can play a George Thomas
course with out being a member. I was disappointed to find the pond was drained
on the 4th. Hole but still prevents the use of a driver. Over all this is best time to play
this course before the summer season hits.

course is still a little wet in some areas. Greens today were the fastest i seen at wilson. They probably just cut them today. Balls flew by the holes on down hill putts. Great way of making the course tougher.

Wilson is Wilson! As I get older and lose what little distance I had, this course becomes even more of a challenge. (Maybe someday I'll get smart and not play from the tips) With the damp fairways, the course played all of it's 6947 yards! The greens were "sneaky fast" considering it was Wilson. The only real complaint I have is EVERY time I play here, the tee time is ALWAYS 20+ min late????. Add that to close to a 5 hour round and it makes it a long day. But I'll be back again next year to do it again!

Good old Mr. Wilson, THE GREENS ARE GREAT!!!! The course saw a lot of water, fairways, tee boxes, ruff are very wet! The bunkers have lots of good sand and the greens were the best? Greens were healthy, medium fast, held a good ball flight and rolled very true on friday. The fairways were giving up mud on the tee shots, cement drains were full of water that cross the course. Be patient on the drying out of the course, it may be awhile? Some trees were downed in the heavy rains, but not like Rancho Park! This course is always great to play, just remember to fix the greens and replace your diviots. Always rake a bunker even if you did not play from there!!!! Game for gentlemen and ladies.

Played 8/12: The course is in great shape , the only complaint would be that the greens are a little marked not bad for the amount of rounds played. It is a great layout and a pleasure to play. I saw a lot of wild life on my loop (ex. deer) . It is worth the wait on the course to play.

Great course. Solid greens considering the traffic. More difficult then Harding though. Decent driving range, good chipping area and 3 superb putting greens. The negative, the rounds are way to slow. The course is extremly crowded all the time. Too many waana be pros that create great lags in the rounds.

The greens were real soft from all the watering. They were very inconsistent. The fairways were in below average shape. The marshalls are trying to keep pace by speeding up slow groups. 5 hr. roound for a Sunday pm.

Wilson seems to have a problem with their watering system? The fairways were rock hard for this time of year. Greens were soft from the hand watering the workers were doing. The course looks and played real well today. Soft greens guys you must fix your ball marks!!!!!! If everyone just fixed theirs and 1 other how good would the greens be? Enjoy the extra role you get from the faiways.

NO more gnats at wilson, thank you! Last month the golf course was full of millions of gnats, almost unplayable with these bugs! The greens are perfect, lust, quick and smooth as good as Wilson can get!!!!! Fairways were good and sometimes you can find some deep ruff out there. Weather is going to be nice for the weekend so get that LA card and start dialing that tee time! Thanks Wilson for the great day!!

Played this course over the weekend. The pace of play was decent after the third hole. I had a 7:00 tee time. The greens were in good shape they will only get better. The worst part of the round was those pesky flies or knats whatever they are called. Jesus they were fierce. At one point I had to wrap my face with my towel. They cleared up around the 15th tee. Besides the flies the course is healing nicely after being aerated.

Played Sunday 3/28. Arrived 1:30 teed off at 2:15, finished the second hole at 3:15!!! I understand and am prepared for slow play on a Sunday, but this is out of control. There were four groups on the second hole, in plain view of the starter! We were charged full price as well, which is up to $40.50 a person with cart, while not a bad rate, we should have waited until the 3:00 pm twighlight rate. This could be such a great facility if managed properly. The carts are back but th folks who run the concession are not too friendly. Darkness fell at 6:30 & we where on the 14th hole. This place is only fun if you can manage to catch it when it is not busy, whenever that is!!!

Play was slow for a Friday morning round. We saw the marshall on holes 1&2, but then not again until 18. The rough is severely pockmarked like the surface of the moon in some areas and almost unplayable. The fairways are in poor condition and filled with divot marks. The greens were not as bad as I expected given the rest of the course, and the bunker sand was soft. The layout of the course is wonderful and is the only thing that will entice me back considering the condition it was in. It has some really fun holes.

WILSON WAS RUNNING 30-40 MINUTES BEHIND ON GETTING TEE TIMES OUT! WE WERE LUCKY TO HAVE 8:19 AM, BUT GOT OUT CLOSER TO 9 AM? I BELIEVE THIS HAD TO DO WITH THE NEW CARTS? YES WHEN THE CART SHACK BURNT DOWN, PACE OF PLAY WAS SHORTER? OOH WELL! GREENS WERE A LITTLE BUMPY, NEEDED TO BE ROLLED. NEW SAND IN ALL THE BUNKERS, SO ITS SOFT, IF YOU KNOW HOW TO PLAY THEM ITS GREAT. WE JUST BEAT THE RAIN AND LIGHTNING BY 10 MINUTES, THANK YOU! COURSE WAS PLAYABLE , NOT THE BEST CONDITION BUT HIT FAIRWAYS BUMP IT IF YOU WANT AND HIT GREENS. THE COURSE WAS NOT GOING TO BEAT YOU TODAY, ONLY YOUR SWING! Many cold mornings have led to dormant, divot fested fairways. By April, this and other courses should be green again. The greens are in good shape. That is most important! Classic, tall tree lined golf course that gets lots of play. Always a challenge and fun to play. I was lucky to see the 6 deer that live here.

Wilson features a genuinely interesting layout with lots of doglegs and good use of the natural terrain. The course tends to play shorter than the stated yeardage off the tees, but longer on approaches thanks to lots of elevated greens, many of which are more elevated than they first appear. It's a good test of golf that relies on the older fundamentals of course architecture, rather than tricks, to stress your game. As for the course conditions right now, I'd say they're generally just fair. The greens are okay, though rather bumpy and medium-slow. Fairways look bad but play pretty nicely - there's a lot of brown and plenty of thin areas but for the most part they're pretty good. Tee boxes are quite bad at this course - it's just tough to find one that's level - but despite the shortcomings in conditioning, this course is well worth the $23 weekday or $29 weekend green fee. There are a few modern-day course architects who could really take a lesson from this excellent layout!

7:30 am tee time at Wilson, had a birdie put on number #1 . What a great day to play golf with some friends! The course is looking pretty good for wilson, except for the tee boxes!!! #2 horrible, #3 worst i have ever seen! no grass anywhere, dirt and twigs put down some turf. The fairways were great, little wet that early but good. Greens were dewey and slow at first but help the line well. Go out and test yourself at this golf course $22 bucks to walk, a steal.

I agree with "nallr" on this one. One of the best lay-outs anywhere but not enjoyable. Rude starters, rude pro shop staff, worthless marshals. The marshals are parked at the snack bar all day. Course conditions are pretty good and the lay-out is awesome but you don't feel welcomed at all. Drive 10 minutes to Brookside or De Bell for a much better time.

Well, I had the typcial Wilson Golf Course experience. I love the layout. Wilson has some great holes. The greens were actually pretty good for Wilson. Everything was good except for the usual: It took us over 5 hours to play. Especially slow considering this was a Monday after a three day holiday. The marshalls are completely worthless at this course. They just laugh about the slow play. To make matters worse, the two guys we got stuck playing with were betting and making each other mark and putt even 4 inch putts. Completely ridiculous. I love this course, but I won't be back anytime soon.

Played on Thursday, 6/26/03. Course was in good condition. Greens were medium speed and relatively true. Played the blue tee markers which were put where they are supposed to be (not moved up like sometimes happens on the weekends).

Teed off at almost 4 PM. Finished 16 holes, although the last one was pretty dark. Speed was average.

This course has a number of doglegs so, even with the relatively wide fairways, shot placement is important. There are not a lot of traps. Only a few come into play on drives.

Some greens are small so good chipping is important for most players. The course is long and so is much easier for a long hitter.

For a public course, this is a good test of golf. Plays similarly to Rancho (which I haven't played since the 1970s).

My only complaints are a few areas with extensive gopher holes as well as the rough. I lost a ball on 10 which appeared from the tee to be in the right side of the fairway. It apparently went down a gopher hole. The rough is short enough that it doesn't have a major effect on shots from it, but balls can be much harder to spot. All it does is slow down play. I had several shots I couldn't find without help from playing partners. The trees make the holes tough but fair without the rough. The rough only slows down play.

Played course on April 26. Generally, the course is in good shape but very upset about the fact they were heavily sanding the greens and never told us. When we asked the management of the course, they said they failed to put it on the tape when you make the tee times. O.K. Who's to blame? Doesn't matter. Should've told us at starter or given us a discount. RIGHT!!! Not the city!

Been playing this course since I was 13 in 1973 and, despite the fact that it's consistently one of the busiest courses in LA, I still love it. The only downside is that you need an LA City card to make reservations, but you simply cannot beat the price. And kids (I belive 16 and under, check with the course) play for $5! Wide open and fairly tough fairways, but some good elevation changes and a few tricky holes. A few have huge premiums for accurate short-cut shots and not too much penalty if you miss. Good practice facility (putting and chipping green and large practice sand trap) and their clubhouse makes the best breakfasts in Southern California.

Quite possibly, the best course in the LA City system. Elevation changes, doglegs and nice views. A little too crowded on the weekend for my tastes, but wonderful during the week. Good facility for a public course.
