Played 1/1 at 1257 finishing in darkness around 4 hours 15 POP. Everyone nice in the proshop as always, although it looks like they raised their beer prices to 8$ domestic which seems a bit of a gouge. The lower practice green was in great shape although it seems they don't allow chipping down there anymore.

Tee boxes: Flat, mostly good coverage with average divot damage. 7/10
Fairways: Great coverage, always sitting up nice in the fairway. 7/10
Rough: Pretty deep, you can tell the rains have grown them out a bit. 7/10
Traps: Really thin, which is odd for here. Usually good coverage. 5/10
Greens: Fabulous shape, being medium-fast and with tricky undulations. Good shots held no problem. 8/10.

Always a recommend from me.

I played Black Gold this morning 12/1 at 9am after my buddy found an internet promotion for $79/ea. Arrival and check-in was easy. Warm-up on the all grass range (today) was nice too. Teed off exactly at 9am. I don't play BG that often and I consider it a treat. The course is in pretty good shape. The tees are level, but thin. The fairways have good coverage and have drained well after all of the rain from the past few days. The rough is thin and probably dormant? The greens are the best part of the course right now. Smooth and lush, with a few divots. The two green side bunkers I hit today had nice, soft sand, although my playing partners hit a few flooded bunkers. For the location and price BG normally commands, I think it should be in better shape, but perhaps I have higher expectations.

Played on 11/15 with a 11am tee time. Check in was smooth and first tee very organized. Course is recovering from on going maintenance around the tee boxes and the tee boxes themselves. Fairways had good coverage, rough was not too penal and could recover in most cases. Traps were very wet in the low spots. Greens had very good coverage and have never seen them this soft. Greens speed was on the medium side with a lot of breaks around the hole.
A fun layout and usually great views. Staff is always excellent and very friendly.

Played today before several scheduled tournaments. The course is in very good condition except for some of the par 3 tees, which had divot damage on the tee box. The greens have recovered nicely since the were aerated almost a month ago. The aeration holes were still visible but they did not affect your putting. POP was slightly over 4 hours.

headed up here to the heat as i like the layout and conditions here. they had a problem with their tee time booking engine so check-in was a bit confusing but they did give some complimentary range balls which was nice. Course is in good condition. Tee boxes were level and uniform. fairways with good coverage, and as usual here the rough by the fairways and greenside are thick kikuyu which will wreak havoc on your game. your club could get stuck and you'll hit a short duck hook or catch it high on the face and get a flop. or the ball just goes nowhere. greens ran medium and it must have been the perfect speed for me as i was able to get up and down way more than i usually do. played late morning so it was hot out there and SLOW. POP was almost 5 hours which was torture for me. ruined an otherwise nice round. wish i could get out early morning like some other members around here.

Second time off this morning following a twosome. Thanks to Sergio in the pro shop allowing us to get out a little before our scheduled tee time. Great customer service, easy check in .

Second time off this morning following a twosome. Thanks to Sergio in the pro shop allowing us to get out a little before our scheduled tee time. Great customer service, easy check in .

I thought the course was in very nice overall condition. Greens rolled really well, but were slower than I expected. They held shots well, even my "lower than" most shots. Fairways nice green & lush. The greenside bunkers had what I thought was "heavy, sand" just tough to get through? Maybe later in the day when it gets drier, it might play differently. The only issue I had was some of the kikuyu lies in the rough were a bit harsh. (Maybe it's just my inability to play from kikuyu !)

Great day on a fun course. Easy pace of 2 hours 50 minutes, which could have been faster, but did not want to push the twosome, which also allowed us to not interfere with maintenance. Plus $55 using the GK coupon made it well worth the $$$

Played BG on 8/20, at first light. Clubhouse and starter were nice enough to let me go out single before the 1st threesome. Made for a quick round, although I did have to way for the greens cutters to clear off on most of the back 9 greens. No problem, it was a beautiful morning to stand and smell the weeds.

Course is in really nice shape for mid-summer. Tee boxes have been recently aerated, but it is not an issue, still lots of decent grass coverage. Just don't put your tee in an aeration hole and all will be OK. Greens were excellent. Moderately soft, smooth, and not too fast.

Fairways and rough are generally nice, with some rough spots here and there. Rough around the greens can be nasty at times. Sand was good, a bit firm and packed, but still very playable.

Thoroughly enjoyed my morning, too bad I had to go into work rather than head back out for another 18. But even at work, there's always time to squeeze in a GK review......

Great time last week teeing it up fellow GKers around 6:30am on Wednesday at Black Gold Golf Club. As difficult as the golf course is for me it is one of my favorites in SoCal. Consistently great conditions, challenging fun layout (fantastic back nine) and quality service. Checks the boxes. Plus one of the best finishing holes around (which I have still never birdied but at least had a good look at birdie this time).

For a long time I would read reviews about how although the greens were fast and smooth, they were also very firm. Last week they were medium speed, smooth and holding shots great. The fairways were all lush kikuyu and just a pleasure to play from. The rough was lush kikuyu at a manageable length yet still very challenging. Bunkers all had quality sand, well groomed although little wet and heavy due to the early morning round. Tee boxes were lush with some occasional uneven lies (we played the blues).

After the round sat down for tasty lunch at Derricks. Normally I’ll sit on the patio overlooking the 18th green but it was starting to get hot and opted for the inside comfort.
