The El Toro Course closes for renovation December 31 and reopens in 2009 after property is remade for homes and park land. I was told by the starter they are lengthening the course too. I have always enjoyed playing this course since it can be walked easily and greens fees are low by comparison.
At the moment, the greens are in great shape while the balance of the course is fair in comparison. The 18th hole is still a great test. I hope they keep the greenies low but that is probably wishful thinking. I will miss ET.

Played for the first time recently, not sure if I'll be back. This could be a real nice course. It looks like maybe it was at one time. You can see some nice touches in the landscaping that are now overgrown. The layout is good with very good sight lines thanks to many mature trees lining the fairways. The greens were superb. It was strange really. There were some bare tee boxes and quite a few bare fairways, yet the greens and surrounding rough were like country club greens. There were also a few tee boxes that looked like they had never been used. A real mixed bag here. There was no rough to speak of and hardly any fairway grass on most holes. I agree that the regular rates are way out of line for this course. Twilight is the only way to justify playing it. I'm not even sure it is worth it then, unless you just want to go beat it around for a few holes.

at only $21 to ride twilight, i feel it's a pretty good deal for a course that's close and lets me avoid traffic on the freeway.

the course is very secluded, and it doesn't feel like playing golf in orange county at all... with the military base having alot of open space, it almost felt like playing golf somewhere in the midwest.. other than the fedex trucks honking on the 4th and 5th holes, there is almost NO outside noise on the course...

gps is nice, overall, it's a bit dry, but i don't care that much. hopefully once they start building the park and homes, the course doesn't change too much

I rarely play here! $38 to walk is more than this course is worth! But heard it will be closing for renovation, so wanted one last shot at it before they change it. There is nothing wrong with this course, it just isn't special and somewhat overpriced. (Compare to Rancho Park, Los Verdes, Goose Creek, Rustic Canyon - all the same price or cheaper) Maybe the "new" course will be better?

Course is fun and fairly easy to get on or get a tee time but over priced for what they offer and the marshall can be curt and kind of a jerk. Last week, couple of twosomes and a single, and our foursome, all had coomplaints about the guy. Don't know his name but his the usual marshal there. If it wasn't so close to home, I would almost never play there since there are other better courses at better prices.

Play was fast, there was actually a marshall out checking times, we saw him about 6 times during the round. However, it is definitely not worth the $62 they charge you (you have to ride before noon and the cart charge is $14 per person!).

pace of play great...price of play...poor...at $38 during the week without cart..a bit steep...better bet to play long beach courses for that price....
