Turned the golf course into a board meeting on Wednesday by taking out some work colleagues to Oak Creek with 1pm tee time on a picture perfect OC afternoon. We played the gold tees while riding their exceptional carts (with a GPS screen like a Tesla) for a somewhat pricey $135 per player greens fee. But luckily the course was in very good shape to help justify the cost.

First, some of the issues though. POP on the front nine (which happened to be the back nine yesterday due to early maintenance so that was lame to miss out on the great 18th hole at Oak Creek to close the round) was very slow behind an older group that really took their sweet time despite so many gaps we allowed them to get ahead. No marshal anywhere to police them. Also, the tee boxes were very narrow and many of them were unlevel, but the coverage was fine.

But there were a lot more positives so it's important to highlight those as well. First off, the greens are the best I've ever seen them here in my limited visits. They rolled true and medium fast speed and held shots well. Really nice coverage overall and a joy to putt from for the day. Fairways are also in good shape with the occasional thin lie, but mostly really good surfaces. Rough areas a little bit of everything from thick to light, mulch to hardpan - keep it in the middle. Bunkers were unraked and had lots of footprint evidence, but no problem if you can move them onto a flat area. The sand itself was in very good shape.

We had cart service at various points through the day and driving range/practice area is really nice, although it's a nice little walk right now from where you pick up the balls to the hitting area since they're trying to repair the area closer to where you park your carts.

I much prefer the layout as it's been for the past few years with 18 being that wonderful par 5 downhill with water along the right side on approach, but the layout here either way is really fun and offers up a great challenge. The par 3s are a lot of fun, the par 5s can be gotten and there's a great mix of par 4s but none really reachable off the tee. I would definitely recommend this course right now if you've got the time.

Played Oak Creek this morning 3/02/21. We rode the Gold tees which is their version of the Blues. We were a twosome and we were paired up with a nice gentleman that played college golf and was fun to watch. His drives were 320 and just to hear that ball come off his club face was a great sound. POP was 3 1/2 hours. Now to the course. Putting green and Range was open. Our tee time was at 6:50 so we got to the course at 6 which I think is normal. I tried to go pay and set up but the starter said we’re closed come back in 25 minutes. Other than that the course was in fantastic shape. Tee Boxes, Fairways, and Greens were spectacular. The greens were PERFECT running smooth at about 11 with no divots. It was my first time playing this course and over the years I’ve never heard some negative reviews but I loved it. It’s a Tom Fazio design and the lay out is great. The green fee is $135.00. Yes that is a lot, as I probably only spend over a $100 dollars on a course once every 2 years but for those playing conditions I might start doing it more. It was just nice to play on some good conditions instead of playing courses with people that don’t know how to fix divots on some greens. I also believe with the covid surge of golf, the maintenance is becoming worse and worse. There is no need to take care of a golf course if the tee sheet is filled every day. Anyways, Oak Creek was a special treat and I will definitely go back and pay the 135 as long as it’s in that condition.

Was in OC for my brother Tony's birthday and another clients 50th birthday yesterday. Because of the heat and smoke, we decided to stay local to where my clients lived for golf. I knew the rack rate of $135 was appalling, but given the circumstances and my client's 50th birthday, it was justified.


Conditions were in good shape. Because of the heat, the course was over watered and the temperature was overcast and much cooler yesterday so the course played pretty damp even at 1 pm. Cafe was closed. Food and drinks available inside of clubhouse. Single carts and range was open and packed.

Fairways and rough were in great summer shape and greens were damp running at 8.5. Traps where unraked, but had plenty of sand. I do not understand why they cannot handout sanitized divot mixes so we can do our part after shots.

Customer service was fine. Pointless paying a starter there to say "go to the tee and have a great day".

Will return again if the price is right.

Rough is very hit or miss.

There are numerous cart path sections being ripped out and replaced. Makes it an adventure to get around.

POP was not good given the limited crowd. We had a single playing multiple balls two groups up, and she was holding up the twosome and threesome following. She finally joined the twosome in the middle of the back 9, but that didn't help things.

All in all, not bad. Definitely not worth the rack rate, but there are deals available.

played yesterday morning with a group of friends. i like the layout and the location as it's convenient to me, and only play it every few months due to the price. usually the course is in decent condition, but yesterday it was a bit of a let down. The course is dry, mostly yellow, and much of the grass is dormant. There is fair coverage, you will get grass in the fairway and rough, but it's a very thin layer, often dry grass with wettish dirt underneath. drives will run a decent distance. only semi-lush areas were some green areas in the fringe around the greens. better make sure you hit the ball before the ground. tee boxes were okay, i don't remember having any specific concerns about them. maybe a bit shaggy. greens were mowed tight and were quick but they had some light sand on them so putts would occasionally get bumped off line. i was only in one greenside bunker and it had some heavy-ish sand which was fine. overall, it was still a fine day, but for the price i wish it was in a bit better condition and more visually appealing.

Fairways are generally good, but the grass coverage is very thin and cut very short, making lies very tight. It is bordering on punishment for hitting fairways compared to hitting the rough. Chipping from the fairway is very difficult. Our foursome probably had 10-15 chunked chips, you have to made perfect contact off the hardpan.

Fairway complaint aside, still a great layout in very good conditions. Highly recommended.

Overall course is in OK shape but certainly not worth paying over $80 for with other options in the area. We got out with a $80 coupon and Costco has a decent deal now. I wouldn't pay more than that.

Tee boxes were in poor shape, either divots, uneven ground or bare spots. Fairways were better than decent but not great. Traps were above average but as posted before, people just dont rake them. Whats up with that?!? Best part of the course and the saving grace were the greens. Greens were pure and in great shape.

Staff was fantastic as well as service. Starter let us know they will have an open qualifier in the near future so they are growing out the rough. I think they need to focus on other areas prior to the qualifier. Also disappointed that they have removed so many trees on the back 9. This used to be a course in the middle of Irvine and but you felt like you could be in the remote suburbs. Now there are 2-3 holes that look out onto the 5 freeway. So sad.

Bottom line, the Costco deal is probably worth it, but with green fee price increases in 2020, Id consider other options before coming back.

Played on Sunday, 12/29 at 11:06am for 96 dollars. That is a deal at this place considering the rack rate was 180.00!!!! Everything is dormant and it was CPO due to the rains. It was not bad at all, however there were some oversaturated areas on certain fairways. I was in 2 bunkers and the sand was solid to hit from. The greens were the highlight for sure, true and quick.

If I can play here for 100.00 or less, I think it is worth it. It is one of the only Fazio courses in OC that is public and you can play for under $250.00(Pelican Hill). The Irvine Company likes to put the screws to you as far is price is concerned, but it also keeps a lot of people away, at times. It did make for a great pace of play, but that also could have been the recent rains keeping people away. I have a hard time paying anything over 100 dollars if the place isn't historic or 9-10 as far as conditions.

I played Oak Creek on Tuesday, teeing off at about 10:00. I played for free, having been given a free round by gk "Gold Vest Member" mcantos ... best Christmas present, so far.

The course was cart path only. Though I took a cart, I definitely felt like I had walked the course by the time I was done. By the way, did you know that you're allowed to walk Oak Creek? I did not know that. Anyway, call first after it rains if you have ambulatory issues.

Course conditions were pretty good, considering the inconsistency of the recent weather. Tee boxes had been punched on a few holes, and the grass was a little fuzzy. Fairways were generally good, with increased divot damage due to cpo. The rough was short and very playable. There were many footprints in the bunkers I was in (I guess the clientele thinks the high green fee means someone else will rake the sand). The greens were the best part. They were smooth and a little slower than usual due to the rain.

I really like the Fazio layout at Oak Creek. The best part of the experience is the secluded feel of the golf course. I feel like I'm out in the country when I play here. I highly recommend playing here if you can fit the price into your budget.
