Read my putts properly by checking on where the ocean was and scored well. New tee boxes on one and ten. New clubhouse and restaurant area are first class.

I just played this course on July 5th and it was very crowded and very slow. But, the course was very fun to play with a great layout and some challenging parts. The greens were pretty bumpy and ball marks were not repaired. Overall a good course and is a fair value.

Good course for players of all levels. Tee boxes and greens were in great shape. Fairways were okay. Front nine are open/flat, back nine are hilly. Don't miss the fairway on the back nine or you'll be in bad shape. Pretty good value for a good course in Orange County. Overall, a very fun course.

Walked right on today as a twosome. Parking lot was half empty. I've been playing here for 6 years and I've never seen the parking lot so empty at 9am. Thought maybe there was a nuclear attack somewhere and everyone was home watching CNN...

As usual, customer service is awesome. Dave in Pro shop is, well, a Pro. Course is in good shape for a muni that gets a ton of traffic. Everything is a 5 or 6, except tee boxes. Way too many bare spots and holes on tee boxes. But, hey, for $28 and to walk on immediately, it's cool. Had pulled pork sandwich in the new restaurant. It was okay. Place is definitely a nice addition and the new clubhouse is great.

Just renewed my residence card and with it this course is a great deal.
The cacua grass is the same turf as riveria and and torrey pines you get no roll but every lie is up. The greens are good but can get bumpy , they are large and can be fast. The lay out is top notch for a muni the range, putting green and new clubhouse are all open. Play it in the dead of summer and bring a sweater.

A good muni. Never a problem walking on early on Fridays. Great customer service. Greens still bumpy from aeration. Cool vibe (beach mellow). It's a good value.

I forgot what a fun course this is. Lots of elevation changes and little moguls in the fairways. Two great par threes on the back side. The only problem right now is that the greens are still bumpy from the punching a couple weeks ago. Forty-one bucks to walk on the weekend is a fair price, but the back side is a pretty demanding hike.

Played 12/23. The new clubhouse is open! There is still a bit of work to be done on the 1st and 10th tee boxes (where the old clubhouse was) but that will be remedied soon. The putting green is forthcoming also. The course is in great shape, nuff said. The staff is always excellent. No complaints and it is still the best value in OC.

Due to the clubhouse construction the area is still a mess. It looks like everything will be done early next year. The course is in good shape. The bunkers are too soft. The old clubhouse is now completely gone. The cart tent also has the starter. The porta potties are numerous and clean. careful crossing the street!!!

Played Wednesday, October 3rd. It was my first time on the course, and I'm a beginner. Besides a few tee boxes (#1 mainly), the course was in excellent shape. The greens were spectacular, rolling true. Being so close to the ocean gives a constant breeze, fairly stiff at times. Putting was a challenge due to the proximity to the ocean as well. Breathtaking views from the back 9 with a fairly simple layout for most of the course. As a beginner, I loved this course due to the openness of the fairways, which is very forgiving if you have a drastic slice and/or draw.

Accepting that the greens were recently punched, all things considered they rolled reasonably true, I guess because I putted so poorly, I just didn't like them. (Everyone in our 5some putted poorly, not just me) The course itself is in fairly nice shape, a bit rough around the clubhouse area, but that's understood given the construction. Lots of wind so course played tough today. Nice diversity of holes, always fun to play here.

Played 9/19/07 It was great greens are nice and smooth. If you can keep your drives in the fairway you would really like this course. Course has its up and downs at times but it is a great course for the average golfer.

Played 9/14, greens have recovered and are back to their normal play. The course is a little brown in spots but recovering nicely. As usual, the greens keepers are doing a phenomenal job of keeping this course in great shape. The clubhouse guys and gals were phenomenal as usual. Get out there and play!

I play San Clemente at least three times a month and USUALLY the experience is a good one. Not today. Always go as a single and usually get on in about 30 minutes. Their policy is to hold one or two tee times each hour open for walk ons. There were three of us waiting over 90 minutes. What happened to the two times an hour policy? Dude in pro shop was clueless. Wasn't the normal guy I deal with. Then, to top it off, they'd PUNCHED THE GREENS and said nothing. Small holes, but still affect the putting. That said, course is in decent shape except for the majority of the tee boxes. For the money, it's worth it.

Played from the tips yesterday and to this 18 handicapper, it plays easier to me. The 16th hole at 387 yards sets up better for me than trying to draw the ball around the left corner. The third hole from the blues allows you to fly over the trees lining the left side easier than punching a 5W 200 yards down the right with a bad angle in. Greens are in very good shape with just a few divots.

Played 6-16-07 for the first time here. The course is set in a scenic area with some ocean views. The fairways were good in most parts and the greens are fairly slow and break largely towards the ocean. You really need to hit the ball firmly for putts to hold their line. The first 5 holes are quite straightforward, but after that the layout gets much more interesting. The two par 3's on the back nine are challenging holes, and the back-to-back par 5's offer the chance of reaching them in two, but they both have narrow fairways and big greens so birdies are not necessarily easy. For $38 (non-resident) this course is a pretty good deal, the clubhouse, driving range and putting green are under construction now, but it's well worth the drive if you live in north county san diego.

Played 6/9. The greens have recovered from the recent punching (exclamation can be removed) but are still a little bumpy which is normal. The fairways are a little dry so the ball runs a little bit more off the tee. POP was excellent as was the staff.

Been playing this course for the past 6 months on Sunday mornings. Have never made a reservation and am usually off within 45 minutes. I have to say that this course is one of the best OC values. The staff is superb and the course is always in excellent condition considering the amount of traffic. They are still in the process of building the new restaraunt so the driving range is a bit short and holes 1 and 10 tees have been moved. The POP is about 4.5 hours despite rarely seeing a marshall. I am not a resident, but for $38 walking on the weekends you will be hard pressed to find a better course value in OC (better yet if you are a SC resident!).

Sorry xshaft, prices at the muni haven't gone up in several years. Still $30 to walk and an extra $12 per person to ride on weekends. I think San Juan Hills is $68 on weekends now- maybe you've got the two courses confused.

With the construction of the new clubhouse, appears play is down because I had no problem getting out as a single. Course is in nice shape. For me, I'd rather have had the $$ spent on the couse than a new clubhouse, the old facility was fine with me. Always a nice place to play and a bargin given what the other Orange county course charge.

No complaints with the course. They have demolished the restaurant and are building a new one. So, #'s 1 and 10 are playing off temp tees at a length of about 240 yards each. Can't hit driver on range cuz they've shortened it as well for the construction. Great customer service. Greens were in good enough shape.

The good news is pace of play was great on a Sat. p.m. No waiting, just continuous play. Fairways in pretty good shape. Greens were slow, hard to get use to. Only #17 green showed bare spots. Watch out for the mountain lion when you walk down the path from the blue tee box to the fairway on #16. Not fully grown, but I changed direction and went around the long way after I saw him. Oh, the restaurant-restroom bldg. is closed for remodeling. There's no food or drink to buy anywhere on the course.

Course plays longer than what is on the score card due to ocean breezes and the long grass in the fairway and longer, stickier grass in the rough. Putts really do break to the Pacific.

Played as a single and was thoroughly impressed. The starter was very friendly and even suggested that I play by myself. The marshall was also very courteous and even had a fivesome in front wait for me to catch up so I could play ahead of them. The course itself is in good condition considering the amount of play it sees. The greens break to the ocean even if it is not apparent.

San Clemente was very challenging for our foursome when it came to the putting. We missed some birdie putts and several putts for par. The ball seems to always break toward the ocean. Had a nice round though. They need better putting greens and Clubhouse, Bathrooms, and restaurant were kind of disgusting and need major rennovation.

Great sunny day and $38 weekend golf. What could be better? Being a local - the rates are even lower. Add $12 for a cart or $6 if you walk the front half as I do. Good conditions today. They did add two to our threesome as we were behind another fivesome but we did not wait nor was anyone pressing us from behind. Bermuda greens (not my favorite) are decent but got the best of my putter this time.

Played 1/8/06, greens were healed although a bit slower than normal. Always a great value but not much service. They do allow fivesomes which could be a problem but the groups I have been behind were always single digits and played quickly. I don't have a problem with pace in the mornings but marshals are few and far between.

Walked on as single today. Got out within 30 minutes. Usually I have no complaints about SC but today was a little disappointing. First hole was playing as a 50 yard par 3 instead of a 340 yard par four due to work on drainage system in fairway. Then, we find out the greens were recently punched! No mention of that at all. I'd wait a week for the greens to heal.

This course is not as good as the numbers rate it. The holes especially tee boxes are to close together. On the #1 tee you are literally at the front door to the pro shop. The layout is not entertaining minus a few good par 3's. One of them has a great view of the ocean. Other than that not a good course, probably more like fair. The starters were great and that was a breath of fresh air for once. Course plays VERY SLOW, did not see a marshall all day long. This was the longest round I had this whole year (6 hours long!!!). Don't pay more than $30 with a cart here or in my opinion you will be disapppointed.

This course is a great value, as the greens are rolling nice, the fairways are in good shape and the layout is very enjoyable. Only problem we had last Sunday was someone getting in the bags and stealing the cash from my 2 friends. You can't see your cart while on the first tee. Other than the crrok which can happen anywhere, this course is a treat to play.

Played 10/29/05 about 2 weeks after the City championship and the course in in terrific shape. Fun track, hard to beat the value $38 on weekend for a non local ($50 with a cart). Spectacular day with ocean views on our morning. Cheap range balls but off the mats. No cart girls. A great course to walk on the front nine -- the back nine is a bit hilly. Locals receive cheaper fees and preferential treatment (surprise!) and they permit fivesomes. Pace of play was decent despite the infrequent marshall. Always a great experience for me and the course is at its best now.

Solid municipal course with some very boring holes and some very nice holes. Front 9 is very boring and mostly flat. Back 9 is much nicer with some elevation changes and some very scenic holes.

Conditions of the course were in tune to your basic municipal course, maybe a bit better.

Played in a tournament on 8/21. The story here for me was the rough. It's that really grabby, thick-bladed Kakuya grass. It stops the roll of any ball that gets into it, and makes chipping and pitching around the greens very difficult. Even though the fairways are pretty wide, staying in them is a must. The greens were impressively kept for a municipal course, and it looks like the players were repairing their ball marks for the most part. The ocean breeze also comes into play. A very enjoyable value.

This course is an amazing value. For a muni, it is in incredible shape. Most of the holes are pretty straightforward, but there are some holes that are all uphill or, conversely, downhill. Greens were outstanding. Fairways were cut short and fairly lush. Lots of rough. There were maintanence workers all over, mowing, pruning, doing lots of upkeep. They really are taking great care of the course. I'd highly recommend it. I arrived as a single at 6:35am and was teeing off at 6:45. All for $30!

Great! For a municipal course this can't be beat. The course is in great shape and several holes have ocean views. The 15th, a long par 3 is spectacular. Suggest you spend some time on the practice putting green before you tee it up as these greens while in good shape can be difficult at times. Enjoy!

Great value! Greens were punched 3/14 but not too bumpy today. As a walk-on threesome it took about two hours to get on although one member of our group was there at 5:45 a.m. to "get in line" for one of the two open times they retain for walk-ons each hour. This is down from three tee times per hour a few months ago. Nice track and in great condition. I struggled with the putting as I am not a fan of bermuda greens. Pace was good for a busy Sunday morning, about 4 1/2 hours.

Lucky enough to play this course on the 12th. Great muni, with views of the same ocean as Pelican Hills! for a lot less $$. Greens were slow due to the fog and moisture, but rolled smooth with good strokes. Kakuya grass fairways are lush, and rough is rough, hard to score from. Bad news is aeration is scheduled for the 14th, so wait a while before visiting this great William Bell designed golf course.

Another great day at this wonderful Muni. Wonderful casual atmosphere. Played in just over four hours. Fairways fine. A little bit of rough, but nothing major. Usually you can't discern rough from fairways so they'd done a better job of cutting the fairways down a little. Greens are spongy and receptive. All break to the ocean. Can't beat it for $30.

Played today, holiday golf with lots of players, so it took a while. The greens are nice and roll true and towards the ocean. Not a bad deal for a muni that gets so much play. The grass in the fairways isn't growing well at this time of year, but one of the playing partners was from Cleveland and he thought this was paridise. Guess we're spoiled!

Played on Sunday and had a good time. A little wind and rain kept the course somewhat clear of the normal slow play. And as the afternoon went by, the day turned out great. This is a nice course to play, with some tricky greens to read (due to the ocean break). Not a long course, but some well placed bunkers and quick greens make it fun. And some of the views are great of the ocean. I recomend it to all. Best of all, the price is right!

Great muni track. Easy to walk. $30 on friday! Everything breaks to the ocean. Fairways were in good shape. Greens very soft. Thick rough.

Not a bad thing to say about this place! I look forward to playing it for years to come. Yeah, it's a muni, but you can walk on for $30 and get out almost asap. They are very accomodating. Just laid back, casual San Clemente golf. Most of the tee boxes have been redone in the last month. Very nice. Greens were the usual. Soft and breaking to the ocean. One bummer: temp green on #11 because some retards decided to do donuts in their car on the green last night. Ton of damage to the green. Viva San Clemente!

Played Sat afternoon. It was great weather as usual in San Clemente. Pace of play was slower than I've seen it before, but not terrible (I've seen worst playing other courses). They are in the process of fixing some tee boxes, so there were some temporary ones set up. I wasn't happy about that, but I didn't look ahead or check Greenskeeper before playing either. The fairways are OK, but not lush yet. The rough near the greens can be tough and really grab the ball if trying to run it up the front of the greens. If the ball lands in the fringe, it may just bounce straight up! The greens, as usual, were running slow, but not bad. They did roll fairly true though. Remember that the greens will almost always favor an ocean break, even if it doesn't look like it. All in all, it's a nice course to play.

Another beautiful day in San Clemente. The greens are in great shape and they have completely replaced about half the tee boxes. Their Pro-Shop prices on clubs, shoes, and clothes are hard to beat. Nice people. $25.00 senior rate and half cart is $12.00.

Decent muni with decent fees. Pace is slower than I prefer. Front side is open, but beware the houses on the back side. Every putt breaks toward thee ocean, no matter what you see. Overall, a pretty decent expereince.

Played on 5/21/04 as a single walk-on and got on within a half hour. I was pleased by this muni course. Greens were a bit bumpy due to ball marks not being fixed, but overall it's a great deal. On most holes you have a panoramic view of the ocean ... can't get many courses with this view for $50 on a Sat. am. Will play again, for sure.

Greens in excellent condition; fairways great; Bunkers have very shallow layer of loose sand. Customer service: Courteous, professional, friendly and very efficient. A great value and fine golf course.

Great muni. Walked on as a twosome on Friday morning and got out within 20 minutes. Walkable, but there are some hills. It's a good course; great rates ($30 to walk on a friday!); nice staff. The course is always busy. My only complaint. #'s 16 and 18 are fairly new greens (redone last year) and they roll completely different from the others. Messes up your head!

First time here in about 15 years. Still a very fun and worthwhile course to play and very reasonable rates. Greens for most part were in good shape. Some player neglect. A few morons must think that greens are self repairing.
The bunkers were only fair. Wet sand in most. I tried 5 of them.
4 hrs of enjoyable play on a Thursday a.m. start.

Played 7/11 with my club's monthly tournament. First time playing, and very pleased overall. Course is in good shape, no bare spots anywhere. Greens medium to slow, but in good shape, very receptive. Course is a little short, and the front nine is a little boring, but back nine is much better. Very much a local course, with many neighbors playing, as evidence by the many non course owned carts. Great little pro shop, with a good selection of used clubs, along with new stuff also. Range is a little ragged, and the putting green is tiny, and not indicative of the greens on the course, but better that way then the reverse though. Play took forever, over 5.5 hours, but I can only blame my club for playing slow.

Greens have still not come back even after 2 aerations. Look for a slow round if you tee off after 9:00am!

This is a nice little course. The greens are tough to read at times since you need to account for some ocean break in them. But they can be slow, so it makes it difficult to figure how much to add. It's a good layout, with some short par 5's reachable in 2. I played yesterday with a 13 yr/old that played great! He shot 74! Unfortunately, I didn't play as well. We walked on around 12:30 and was on the course by 1. But it was a typical So Cal round of 5 hours, which can effect your game. The back nine has some of the harder holes but is fun. Overall, this is a good course and I recomend it to all.

Wonderful track and in amazing shape considering the traffic it gets. What's great is they don't charge more on Fridays. I walked on, got out within an hour, and walked the course for $30. Greens are immaculate. Fairways lush. Rough is spotty, and not thick. Can't go wrong here.

Course is in great shape and the weather was very nice --- partly overcast and cool ocean breezes. The greens were a little slow and need to be mowed. They had been sanded and some were faster than others. The staff was very nice. Senior rate was $25.00 with half cart at $12.00.

Played Saturday morning in just under 4 hours and it was great. Enjoyable round, course in fine shape although bunkers still need some work. Men's Club tourney later in the day so the greens were in good shape with some tricky pin placements. Aerating Monday and Tuesday so give it 2-3 weeks and San Clemente will be in its typical great shape for the summer.

I like the fact that they don't charge more on a Friday here. Very nice greens and decent fairways make me want to play here more often. Putts toward ocean are fast, and putts away from ocean are slower than you might think. Will aerify on 15th of March!!!!!

For as much traffic this course gets, it's in okay shape. Fairways were ragged in many spots and they were punching them with 1/2 inch holes. Some greens were slow, others fast. No way to gauge. Everything breaks to the ocean!

This is a nice course, especially for the money. I had a little wait walking on Sat. morning but not too bad (~1hr). The greens didn't hold well and were fairly quick but rolled fairly true. Conditions were good considering the number of rounds. Goods ocean views and some tough holes on the back nine. Some reachable par fives make it fun. Overall, it was a good challenge and I'll be back soon.

I always enjoy playing this course. It is in good condition for the amount of play it gets. I went there as a single and got out within thirty minutes. As a senior who walks this has to be one of the real bargains in Orange County.

We were a twosome that walked on. Only had to wait 40 minutes to play, which was great considering the tee sheet was totally full. Never had to wait on the course. Fairways and greens in very good shape for the traffic this course gets. Traps and tee boxes left a little to be desired. Great value. Nice course. Incredible ocean views.

Great people.... great setting.... fun course.... BUT with costa mesa and san juan stepping up BIG time with there course conditioning, I have watched this course over the last year or so really go backwards. They need to really step up the care of the golf course

#1 FAIRWAY - WHEN WILL IT EVERY BE AVAILABLE FOR CART USE. ALSO, THE VALLEYS ON THE FIRST FAIRWAY HIDE THE PLAYERS - ONE MUST BE CAREFUL TO OBSERVE "ALL" OF THE PLAYERS PRIOR TO DRIVING. DRIVING RANGE FENCE NEEDS TO HIGHER - MANY BALLS ARE HIT OVER THE FENCE INTO THE COURSE. MANY TEE BOXES ARE NOT LEVEL. SAND FOR DIVOT REPAIR ARE NOT ALWAYS FULL OF SAND. TO ENCHANCE THE BEAUTY OF THE COURSE - WHY NO GREEN SAND WITH SEED. THE NATURAL SAND LOOKS BAD ON THE FAIRWAYS. OTHERWISE, A VERY GOOD MUNI COURSE WITH GREAT, FRIENDLY PEOPLE TO WORK WITH.

While it was high 90’s to low 100’s inland, San Clemente was 82 degrees with a little ocean breeze today. The course is in pretty good shape and the greens were very nice --- running about a 10 and pretty smooth. There was a little over watering in some areas and they were spreading manure around some of the fairways so in a week or so things will lush up.

I played a golf extra tournament today and felt the course was in pretty decent shape. It was my first time playing San Clemente and noticed that the views were very nice, especially the par 3s. The conditions were ok, greens a little bumpy, fairways choppy and the many bare spots around the golf course. For its normal rate at 30 dollars, I think the golf course is in good shape. A nice short course with wide fairways, should lead to using drivers more often and lower scores.

I haven’t played San Clemente for about three months and the course needs help. Lots of bad spots on the fairways with over watering, under watering, divots that weren’t dressed, and places where they sprayed vegetation killer for crab grass. The greens were fine and running about 10. The weather was perfect --- overcast and 71 degrees.

I played San Clemente on 7-15-03 for the first time, teeing off in a 4some at about 6:30 am and played in about 4:15. Pace of play was good. There were lots of brown/bare spots in the fairways and rough, especially on the front nine. The back nine was in better shape. Some of the tees were in terrible condition with bare spots and heavy divot damage. Course maintainance could use a major upgrade. The greens were in very good condition but had not been mowed and seemed slower than they appeared. The layout is okay but the course needs a lot of work.

For those of you not wanting to play temporary greens --- San Clemente will be doing a second aeration on Monday 05-12-03. Remember, when the weather gets to 100 degrees inland it will be 72 degrees at San Clemente

The views were outstanding with the Pacific Ocean visible on many holes. The pace of play was awesome considering we teed-off aroung 10:30. Around 4 1/2 hours and we waited only a few minutes on one par three. For the price of $50 (including cart), the course would have been an outstanding bargain, however, the greens were very inconsistent and bumpy. Of all the times I have played here, this was the worst the greens have been. Other than that a strong recommendation for the price.
