Played super-twilight on Wednesday, 6/30/10, on a warm sunny day with the normal light breezes swirling around the hills that border the course. Not crowded and we were able to maintain a good pace, finishing 16 holes in 3 hours before it got too dark to see. Course is very dry, firm and fast in fairways and greens. Rough is pretty lush and natural areas lush and impenetrable. Easy to pile up strokes quickly and lose balls if you are offline or hit poor shots. Sand in the one bunker I was in was great. Greens were quick and firm, rolling smooth although showing old ball marks. No cart girl at this time of day. SF is in the best shape i've seen in some time.

Played super-twilight at 4:30 Saturday, 5/8/10, on a warm sunny afternoon that cooled off quickly when the sun dropped behind the low hills surrounding the back nine. Course was uncrowded but I got behind a very deliberate replay single that slowed what would have been a 3-hr round to ~3.5. Never asked me to play through even though he must have seen me standing on the tee or fairway on every hole, waiting for him. Course was in very good condition, esp. greens, which rolled well and were very quick. Five fairways were CPO - this is a long-term problem at this course. Close-in natural areas and some tight hitting lanes make getting off the tee well essential here. It doesn't take much of an offline shot to start ballooning your score. The $75 ST rate on weekends is pretty steep - I would have gone to Oak Creek instead ($50 ST) but they aerated a week ago. Cheap GPS, but some sprinkler heads marked. I've got one of the old yardage guides they used to provide with the green fee, but they aren't available anymore since they went to the GPS - the guide provides a lot more info. Nicely appointed restrooms. Recommended, but overpriced.

Played at 1:20 this afternoon. Played in about 4 1/4 hrs. Waited a little but nothing to talk about. Greens were great. Nearly twice as fast as to what I am used to. Very smooth and very few ball marks. Used the 2-1 couponwhich is a great deal for $55. Would not pay the $110 for weekday golf. Place is nice but not over the top.

Customer service has improved here too. No marshall but the bev cart around 3 times and the bag staff was very attentive.

Played 3/23/10, they're getting ready to aerate their greens but they're still rolling good. Got the 2 for 1 coupon from the golf show, I don't think I would pay the $110 rack rate. The course is in great condition, got out as the fourth group (at) 720a. A lot of dew on the fairways in the morning made the ball stop short. Toward the afternoon, the course played really nice. The only other thing are the sand traps after the sprinklers shut off, the sand was just horrible. Oh, they had just started to replace the old carts with new ones. Will be back soon, I still have a couple of 2fers left!

Played Twilight yesterday. This is a challenging course. I played here several years back and was pleasently suprised or perhaps it was my age but the course presents itself as challenging compared to before which seemed next to impossible to play. I like the layout. Fairways are dormant so perfect conditions are not to be expected. The course though is in good condition. There are a lot of wet areas from watering though. Tee Boxes are flat. Fairways are playable but dormant. Bunkers are well stocked with sand, some are watered so it could be a little heavy getting out. Greens were fast; especially downhill. Took a while to figure out that the ravine on the front 9 is where your ball will head. Tricky greens that looked like it would go one way ended up going another until you get reference the ravine. All balls seem to head towards the ravine once that was figured out... fairly easy to read puts.

I would return here again only to see the course in its summer conditions. Great facilities. Helpful staff. Love the course layout .. looking forward to coming here again.

Played Strawberry Farms yesterday with Ringworld, RobStretch and Thingstodo before we headed over the the Golfsmith Extreme VIP party in Irvine. Overall, I really enjoyed this course and had a great time with fellow GK’ers. This is a terrific layout that’s both fair and demanding. It’s a beautiful course with a mostly level/long front nine and winding scenic back nine. Regarding the conditions of the fairways, rough and green surrounds, they were not as lush and green as many would expect from a high end course like this…but I understand why the conditions are such due to the dry conditions and cooler temps we’ve had over the last few months being the grass is predominately bermunda. Had Strawberry Farms overseeded this fall with rye grass, it would be lush and green now however come spring and summer, the bermunda grass would not be as healthy and lush – so it’s a trade off. Regarding the conditions of greens, excellent. I found them to be mostly smooth, fast and very receptive to iron shots. Furthermore, they were extremely demanding with many undulations and tough locations for pins.

Strawberry Farms is a golf course I would certainly enjoy playing many times. Had the playing conditions been better, I’d say it’s a must play. At this point in time, you’re going to enjoy it but come spring and summer, it should be phenomenal.

Played there Sunday, 11/22/09 on the Twitter deal that they have. 1/2 off if you follow them on Twitter. Arrived and paid our fees, went to the cart and then found out that it was cart path only all the way around due to overseeding and maintenance. No warning when t-time was booked, no sign or warning before paying. A small green sheet inside the cart was our first notice. Took just less than an hour to play the first 3 holes and 2.5 hours to play the front nine. Play picked up on the back nine. Course was extremely wet with muddy areas all around. One of our playing partners slipped and fell into a trap caused by a muddy area. Teeing areas were cut long. Greens were bumpy but passable as were the fairways. Paying full price for the quality of course would have been a rip off. Courses have the right to do anything they want to a course but they should earn that right by advising their customers that the course may not in the condition commensurate with their expectations.
