I played today, 11/4/08, and was satisfied. I played as a single in 2.5 hours at 9 30am and there were only 6 people in front of me, none of which I saw. Troy and Mark in the golf shop were cool. Some greens had a lot of pitch marks but most were solid. They were somewhat slow but that's okay. The fairways and bunkers aren't as good as when it first opened, but they are adequate. I don't think the course is worth the 100 dollar fee, but sometimes that is the price you pay for pace of play being outstanding.

Played this course on 8/8, this is one of my favorite courses, i have played it a few times a year over the last 4 years and i must admit the conditions have not been great lately. If you play the course for the first time you may not notice it but people that have played over the lst 4 years or so would be able to tell that the course is not in great shape. I still enjoy the layout and the back nine is always fun, but the fairaways, tee boxes and bunkers need serious attention. The greens are the only thing that Telega has going for it at the moment. I hope this course returns to its former condition because at $100+ its just not worth it anymore.

Course condition right now is pretty worn. Fairways are decent but I have seen them better. Sand traps are AWFUL. I would expect this sort of sand traps at a low end muni track but not a $100+ elite course. Greens were also abnormally inconsistent. I hope they put some time in before the end of summer heat wave otherwise course will be in very poor shape.

First time playing and I really enjoyed the course. Course played tough from the back tees, but good shots were rewarded. Back 9 is hard to play the first time through. A few blind shots and carries that are difficult to gauge (no carry yardages given). Twilight time price was fair and we finished easily with one of the first twilight times (played in late June). GPS system is basic, but helpful.

Disclosure: this is my favorite course in the OC. It's been 4 yrs since I played here. Back then, there was no access to the course from Vista Hermosa nor were there any houses up the hill on the back nine. I am very happy to report that the course is still in great shape: lush fairways, soft green w/ lots of divots repaired (shows that locals take pride in its upkeep). Only strike are the bunkers, which are thin and inconsistent. Back 9 is a joy to play, say nothing of the expansive views. The layout is anything but boring. The par 3 12th slopes severely left to right, so to get it close, you can miss 10-15 yds left and it will bounce down near the hole, but only if you have the right club. Too short or too long and you're on the wrong tier. The par 5 13th is 600 yds long but you cannot hit driver off the tee or it will run too far into the ravine. The 2nd shot is more important than the tee shot as the fairway slopes severely left to right. My favorite hole is the par 4 18th w/ a downhill tee shot w/ 2 fairway bunkers to snag the errant drive. You'll have to make a decision on where to hit. Fire left of both bunkers for a flatter lie but leaving approach over water and a small greenside bunker. Fire straight between the 2 bunkers for a better angle to the green, but you will likely be hitting off a downhill lie. Ingenious. My 2nd fav is the par 5 15th. Tee shot has serious intimidation factor as you have to carry a huge treelined ravine that runs along the full length of the fairway. Trees are so big now, you can't see the group in front, but if you pick the right line (more aggressive), it's downhill and reachable in 2. Course will reward you for good shots, penalize for poor ones. Not a straight putt anywhere. Challenging but fair. The crisp ocean breezes will keep you nice and cool throughout your round. The GPS is not as good as the old system, but serviceable. I used my Bushnell Pinseeker to compare, and distances to front and back are very close (1-2 yds discrepancy at most). I played 36 holes and the 2nd round was even more enjoyable than the 1st. Worth every penny...

played on saturday, 5/10

course is in terrific shape...fairways are perfect...greens are smooth and fast (but not too fast), just the way i like them...everything else is in good shape, except the one bunker i was in had hard sand...which i guess is to be expected...there had been some sprinkles in south county...

as for the course...almost a tale of two nines...the front winds through some housing, and is defended by tons of bunkers...the back goes through an arroyo of sorts, and is much more difficult...there are several forced carries, and course knowledge is a definite must...too bad that in order to have some course knowledge, you need a fat bank account, as this place is pricey on weekends...

Teed off at 10:00. Course is in GOOD shape. But the greens were SLOW. They looked fast but were slow & sticky. I don't really care for the front nine but the back is fun. DEFINATELY not worth $135 on the weekend. I payed $50 & it was worth it.

Played the course on 3/24 in the morning. Not a breeze, warm, and absolutely perfect golf weather. Course was in excellent condition. The layout is very good overall although two par 3s in a row on the front is a bit unusual. I really liked the back nine. The staff was excellent. You have to get a ride to the driving range OR turn off Hermosa one street ahead of the course and the street goes right down to it.

Played Talega on 1/30. Can't find a thing to complain about, course is in great shape. Just a great place to play.

Wait, the free apple at the 1st tee was too big for my mouth. That is my only complaint.

9:30 tee time today, perfect weather, course is in great shape. Greens are smooth, fast, and tough to read. Look for ocean breaks, not sure what they have done,, but played tougher today from the blues....
Everything is first class. pricey, but almost worth it. The jeans and tee shirt crowd would not enjoy it here. Way tooo nice.

just so other readers aren't misinformed...Talega does have a driving range that opened about 6 months ago and it's a nice practice facility. You just need to get taken down to the range by one of the cart guys in a shuttle. So allow a few extra minutes if you want to warm up before starting your round at this course.

Nice course but management thinks they are running the next Pebble Beach. I'm talking about their ridiculous pricing. I guess they are happy with amount of play they get charging $125.00 on weekends.
Maybe they don't want more business. I enjoy a round of golf every Saturday or Sunday and it would be great if they could set their greenfees more like around $70.00. Not having a driving range is also a minus.

This track is rated correctly,"great" . Greens are very good, not too fast but the breaks are weird and tricky, both good things. Best par 3's you will find anywhere. #11 par 5 is only bad hole on the course. Everything is almost perfect. They have a couple spots that got too much water, they are repairing nicely. Fun day.

Played a public shotgun on 11/4 ... $80 using email from Talega ... course indeed in good shape. Bunkers now a lot nicer then when I played there last. Greens are fine but were super soft ... had many 1 inch deep ball marks and a couple of plugs ... lots of soft spike marks around the hole, too ... but nice when you want to go after the pin:) Altogether a nice day at Talega. Watch out for a couple of tricked up holes.

Course is in fantastic shape. The overseeding was very successful and the fairways are outstanding. Greens could use another week to recover from punching and, for god sakes, people need to fix divots. Otherwise, a fantastic track as always.

I played Talega this morning since the overseeding is over now.
First of all, my tee time was 7:04 but they got mixed up so that they let us go at 7:12 following 5 some.
Can you believe that?
A hundred dollar green fee golf course let 5 some out just to make some a few hundred bucks more a day?
The bunkers were terrible & worst I ever seen, felt like a cement.
I liked this course so much a few years ago and the management is going down, it became a horrible course...what a shame.

Nice layout and course in good shape in most areas. Unfortunately many tees were devoid of grass and rough was either thick or bare - no in between. Didn't see one marshall during the round and the refreshment cart made 'last round' at about 4:30.

Played this course twice last week. Customer service in the Proshop is hit and missed - some rude and some very polite. The course condition is also hit and missed. Bunkers are really thin and hard, some fairway and area around greens are damp - plug lie. Overall the layouts are great, very challeging and fun to play. Definitely need to play a few times to know the best way to play the course and will require all clubs in your bag. I hope the overall service and condition will improve to justify the green fee. Hate to see a great course ruined.

Course conditions not as good as the reviews I've read. A little dry in spots, too many cart tracks, scrars on greens from golfer who just don't care. What's wrong with fixing ball marks? Sand traps are not the same fluffy white sand like when they first opened. Wet and hard packed.
Local knowledge a plus on certain holes, GPS system doesn't give the hole story. I really do expect more from a $135,000 course. I'd rate it closer to 6.0- 6.5.

Talega’s layout: simply a well thought out, semi-tricky track (check out #13: a lay-up tee shot on a 600 yard par 5), running thru the canyons adjacent to beautiful brand new homes; and local knowledge a big plus on several holes. Lots of tunnels connecting sections of the course (would be a bear to walk!), palm trees galore, quiet and serene … a real nice high end public golf course. Lush fairways, large greens, fantastic aesthetics abound, and a great clubhouse, GPS, and practice facility (but you have to take the shuttle): you name it, Talegas got it. And lots o' bunkers, and many have very wet sand which played like soft mud … just would expect better for the prices they charge is all. Tip: go to their website and sign up for email alerts for special pricing. We played 8/6/07 in 4 ½ hours, afternoon rate of $52 w/cart. Will definitely come back.

[ b$tch time: I constantly search for a reason why such nice courses have so many unrepaired pitch marks and unraked bunkers … the group ahead of us provided one answer: oblivious and unaware. If you play with guys who fall into this category please try to find a pleasant way to remind them to repair pitch marks, rake bunkers, and fill divots. It has to start somewhere]

I was lucky to be a guest, a freebie at Talega, This Couples design is a treat to play, best par 3's you will find anywhere. But,,,if you read the below comments you can see something is wrong with the place. I think it must be MGMT. No direction from the top. From the sorta surley cart kid that came to our car before we even got out, grabbed our bags, banged into one of us accidently, called out "sorry buddy" and left before we could dig out a couple $$. Calling guests "buddy" might be OK at some places just not here. Course is covered with loose grass, divots EVERYWHERE, fixed maybe 4 at least every green myself. We used 4 bottles of sand on the fairways. The Marshall, what a great guy he was, Rice we think was his name, We are on a par three teeing off, he is on his radio talking to someone, he stops next to the tee box, keeps on talking while we tee of and when finished fires up his gas cart and takes off, never once looking to see if he is bothering us, a jerk at best. Inside staff was great, kids at finish were great, food and service was great. Golf shoulda been great at $90 or $68 senior rate. But, they need to clean up the course and get some help that are as classy as the area and the golf course. We love the place, just dont understand whats happened.

First, I'd like to apologize to the Pro Shop attendant by ruining his day. My twosome a 6:08 ended up being just a single because my friend had to cancel. Although the 6:08 slot was empty, our friendly PSA told me I'd have to wait for the next opening at 6:52. Fortunately, there was another single that came in while I was there. The now-grumpy PSA told him he couldn't fit another single in. When the single said "you just had a single cancel the 6:08 time, how about that one" ....the now-PO'd PSA put the two of us out with another two ready to go.

Anyway, enough of the unfriendly treatment. Course is in good shape. Same story....nice conditions but a bit uncared for in terms of divots and ball marks. At full price, I'd expect better. Still, it is a great layout and generally good conditions.

Played Talega this morning, 7-11-07, 6:15 tee time thru Click4teetimes, $60. Overall the course is in good shape, but the same problems (IMO) that have plagued this course from its inception are still prevalent. The greens are still very thin, not a lot of root in the greens, and they are covered in unfixed ball marks. I'll never understand why golfers dont fix their ball marks on the green. I fixed 3-4 EVERY hole and could have fixed more, but pace of play was a concern so I did what I could, keep in mind we were the 2nd group off at 6:15 am. However, the greens are true and roll very well. The fairways are nice but are also tattered with unfilled divots. If you miss a divot the fairways are plush. The rough was playable and fair although very wet as were many areas of the course, understandable with the recent heat. The tee boxes were maintained well, but still had unfilled divots. Id play again for this price, $60, but not for the asking price thru the pro shop. All in all a good course, Fred Couples design I believe. . .good bunkers with fair & playable sand, water hazards (lakes/creeks), and a ravine make it a good test of golf. Par 72, 35-37 with 3 par 3s on the front 3 par 5s on the back, several tee boxes to choose from, overall a good track. As the governator once said, "I'll be back." Enjoy.

We played in 4 hours, the marshall bird-dogged us for 6 holes like a jerk, then the cart girl shows at the 12th hole and tells us 'she is late and we need to order quick' .... play in 4 hours and still get grief for $135 ??? Course was OVER WATERED with casual water on tees as well as fairways and much mud in places ... my opinion is thta this is a disgrace to Fred Couples ... this foursome has vowed to NEVER play here again just based on Horrible customer service .... by the way .... if you do play ... dont make a teetime before 7:45 since the driving range doesnt open until 7am .... that is ridiculous !!!

The course is in very good shape. But the pace of play was terrible, especially for a mid-week round. There was not a marshall to be seen anywhere. On nearly every tee we had to wait on the group in front of us to tee off (who were waiting on the group in front of them, etc.).

On number 11 (where you can see most of the back nine), we could see the problem: a fivesome was more than 2 holes behind the next group. A twosome was following the group of five--and I can't even imagine how frustrating their round must have been. And I can't believe the fivesome never allowed the twosome to play through.

Anyway, because the front nine took 3 hours, we decided to play 16, 17, and 18 (which were empty), and then play the front nine again (which was empty).

Course is in usual shape for itself. Sand is hardpan right now which is frustrating. Pace of play was slow, at around 5 hours, which is somewhat unusual for this course. They really need Marshalls to keep people moving. Also, too many unfixed divots. Players, show some respect and fix your marks!

The greens were slower than usual as was the pace of play--but that's to be expected on a holiday weekend. The greens were still some of the best you'll find at any public course. I also thought the bunkers were "only" above-average, as opposed to excellent. Customer service was good.

God bless mothers for not being golfers. Finished round in under 4 hours and didn't run into the group who tee'd off in front of us until the 16th hole. Course conditions are outstanding right now but fairways are a little dry causing a lot of bounce/roll. Sand is of usual good quality and since there is so much of it on this course it is a good thing. I enjoy the layout with the exception of hole 13, which has the weird ravine in the middle of the hole you can't see from the tee and any ball you hit will kick to the right, and hole 15, which you have to tee off over a ravine to a landing area you can't even see from any tee except but the ladies. Both seem gimmicky... I mean it seems ridiculous to test a players ability to avoid hazards if you can't see them.

I played here for the first time today. Let me start by saying the Customer Service is second to none. I walked on as a single and was on the first tee within 15 minutes of arriving. The course plays like a Country Club, the fairways are cut perfect and 100% lush. The greens were punched a few weeks ago, and have recovered nicely, although they were a bit on the slow side. The back nine is tough, with some tough carries over hazards. I ended the day by making a bird on 18, so I'll be back.

Very good overall conditions throughout the course w/ good customer service. It's one of the pricey courses in O.C., and this establishment almost always meets customers' expectations. Some of the players on the course, however, acts rather haughty, but I suppose that naturally comes with the territory. Watch out for some regular club members who seem to hold disdain for visiting players. The round took about 4 1/2 hours.

As with other courses, the Par 3's slow down the pace of play. Interesting but Talega has 3 of them in the front nine. Need to encourage players to utilize the "drop area" instead of taking a mulligan (or a penalty drop?) off the tee!

I play this course once a year with a click4teetimes 40% coupon. For $60 it's okay. No way would I ever pay $95. No driving range. No water on the course. Customer service was good. Got me right out, and I mean right out, as a walk on, even though they were very busy. Pace of play was good. Marshall was very proactive. They were busy cuz next week the course will be closed for overseeding. So, everyone was squeezin' a last round in.
Fairways were dry so lots of roll; greens were in decent shape (lots of bare areas around the pins); bunkers were immaculate; tee boxes were in good shape. If you wanna play there, I'd wait til December now that they're overseeding.

Played today,9 AM tee time.this is a special place. Greens are very good considering all the pock marks from the high end folks that dont repair pitch marks, we averaged 3 repairs each per green. So, it aint just the poor folks that are lazy or dumb. Still the best par 3's {all 4 of them} you will find anywhere. Lots of 2 somes, lots of fun. Good condition except a couple of fairways that are begging for cooler weather. If ya havent played it is a must at least once.

I played this yesterday afternoon for $50. At that price it's well worth playing. The fairways are only in fair condition, which is not bad for this time of year. Arroyo Trabuco is in about the same condition. The greens were in great condition with hardly any roll, so there's no worry that it'll roll off the back. Now, if I could just hit those irons closer I'd be in good shape. Pace of play was not an issue--total wait time was less than 5 minutes.

I liked the layout and the location is beautiful and quiet. The course conditions were far below expectaions for a high end course. The GPS is not very helpful. I'll give this course the benefit of the doubt and assume the poor conditions are due to the extended period of hot wheather. I'll try it again later.

A great value at 65- and I must say that I wish I lived closer. The fairways, rough, sand traps, were all in good condition. Some greens were pretty tough but I know better now. My poor father-in-law couldn't hit over the wall of giant trees off the white tees on the 15th hole...(3 times) -180 yd.blind forced carry....I felt bad for him. Anyways, other than that-and the part of no GPS til Fall? Yardage was a slight pain but in the end we had a great day. I would play here anytime!

First time playing this course and I really enjoyed it. Only complaint is a temporary one as their GPS was broken today and you REALLY need it on this course. As to the conditions, they are great. Beautiful fairways, rough is clean and consistent, sand traps pose a challenge and I definitely had a good tour of them today. The discounted price I received was a good value but regular price is a little steep, even for OC standards. However, I would still recommend playing if you want to have a few bucks to spare.

Played today and let me just say, first off, that the reason I chose to play here was all the great feedback from everyone here who posted on it. I can see why it got high praise. Keep up the good work guys! Everything today was just so nice. The weather, the company, the course, just so nice! Fairways are nice and tight, greens are rolling really good right now. Some unrepaired ball marks, but you can say that about any course. Really enjoyed my round here today. Sweet Fancy Moses, I'll be back in a heartbeat.

Played this course again this weekend. I played TERRIBLE!! But the course is in really good shape. Only payed $50 for Super Twilight, and they let us go early. Started out at 3:15, and finished all 18 before it got dark. Also let 3 groups go ahead of us, because we wanted to take our time and it was my friends 1st time playing. Cant beat that price for such a high class course. Navagation is a great add to a nice play.

Great course but you would expect that at a course that charges $125 for weekend play. Greens are true and rolling great the sand traps are perfect and the whole course is lush. Keep your ball in the fairway as the rough is not that wide and there is alot of O.B. as my bro found out. played for $85 with their internet deal. We teed off at 6:40 greens were still wet and about the sixth hole they started drying out. Finished in 3:50 and never really waited for the group in front. Will play again for a discount. But if you have the funds it is worth the price but bring the "A" game or you will get punished like my bro.

Played today, course is in great shape!!! Best I have ever seen the fairways and greens at this course. Greens are kind of soft, but roll fairly well (about an 8 or 9). Tee boxes in great shape. Fairways were excellent, didn't see a bare spot the whole day. Sand traps have crushed marble and are consistent all over the course. This course is not very tricky. Goofy bunkering on some of the holes, but I think the overload on bunkers is good b/c most of the holes are wide open with minimal penalties for bad shots. Quite a few long par 3's.

Staff was super cool today. I booked my time through click4teetimes fpr 35 + 4.95 processing fee and was supposed to go off at 4. Got there at 3 and they let me go immediately. Pace of play was just under 4 hours.

A tip for those of you who don't was to spend a ridiculous amount of money to play this course...go to the course website (http://www.talegagolfclub.com/showsite.asp) and sign up for the "email club". They send out emails with discounted rates almost every week. So, instead of paying 80 for twilight or whatever the full rate is, you can play for 50 at twilight or 35 for super twilight.

Ive played this course once and was glad I did. Our tee time was after 12:00 so we got the Twilight deal, which was only $88 per person, which is really worth it. Trickey course with great faiways, and greens were VERY tough to read. Overall great experience- Clean Clubhouse- and great Carts. You wont be disappointed!

Course is in very good condition from tee box to greens. Bunkers actually have real sand in them which is good because there are a lot of bunkers on this course. Course is pricey but you get good golf for your money.

Seniors (55 and older) get a substantial discount weekdays before 11:00 A.M. Ten dollars more on a Friday. $65 Mon-Thurs. No driving range. So if you have a later tee time go to the driving range first at San Juan Hills (about 10 minutes away). The greens are fast and tricky. Lots of undulations. Get to the course early and spend some time on the practice green. You can order a fresh to made sandwich on the ninth tee which is better than getting a stale one from the cart.
Enjoy.

Played 12/27. We have put this course on our "no play" list until they add some practice facilities. We paid a jacked up $125 to play on a weekday. There is no range, not even nets. So you basically spend the front 9 getting loose. That is criminal based on what they are charging. The course itself is nonetheless interesting in great shape, except for the greens. LOTS of spike marks and too many unfixed divots and unraked bunkers for a course that costs so much. They should put up a couple of net-driving stalls until they get the range built (spring of '06 is the rumor, but no one we talked to who works there seemed to believe it).

Well, yes, this is a very nice facility. But, no golf course, unless it has the most amazing ocean views, or has the words St. Andrews in it's name, is worth $125! Which is why I only paid $60 through click4teetimes.com! It's worth $60. The bunkers on many holes really make you think about club selection. #3, I believe, is littered with bunkers all through the middle of the fairway. Greens are thin, but seem to hold shots pretty well. They're charging holiday rates the next two weeks ($125) so weren't many people there. The fact that there is no range, and the course is surrounded by houses lessens the rating for this course. I say play four times at san juan hills down the road for the same amount of $!

Great layout with many interesting holes. Fairways and rough were excellent but greens had too many unrepaired ballmarks. Very hazardous putting. Bunkers were mostly very good but a few were like clay. I must have hit out of 15 bunkers during the round, virtually every fairway has bunkers in play. email from the course have slashed green fees - $50 after 1:00 during the week and $65 on weekends. Very crowded after 1:00. No course marshals during the week. They are obviously trying to increase revenue and decrease expenses. Hope the couse condition holds up.

Conditions were good, as usual, but the service has declined sharply. Pace was very slow, and messages for assistance through the GPS received no response. After the round I was told that the marshal is off at 6:00, apparently as a cost-cutting measure. So although the afternoon discount was good, don't expect any service. It may be only a matter of time until cost-cutting is reflected in course conditions. Quite a shame if that happens.

Its the rich folks that do NOT repair divots on the greens!!! I guess they assume that someone else will do the gardening. Nice golf course, a little pricey but look where it is, outstanding area, great weather and $1M+ houses everywhere. Fred did a great job on the layout and they are keeping it up very nicely. Greens were tricky, everything else was perfect. But,, those divots on these good greens, that was a shame, but at least now we know who causes them.

played Sunday 4/17 w/ 20% discount so price was reasonable. Course is challenging and layout interesting. Greens very slick with some tough pin positions. Only complaint is the bunkers where the sand was very heavy and wet underneath making it difficult to judge how your ball will come out and most of the greens are heavily bunkered. Pace very good for a Sunday. Course is a little pricey at normal rates but worth playing if you can find any kind of discount.

Played Monday, 3/28 @ 8 am. Crew here is pretty nice. It drizzled on us for a about three holes total so it wasn't too bad. Pretty nice layout, Tee boxes and fairways were lush. Greens rolled nicely but had a few bumps. Aeration will help. Overall good day and nice course however I wouldn't pay weekend fees to play here. Freddy did a nice job here. I suppose this might become private once all the housing is finished.

Played 12/25/04 in a shotgun format for $80.00. This was my first time playing here and I was more than impressed. The day was perfect even though my round was not the best I have had. The course was in top condition from tee box to green. The staff threw in a free lunch but we never saw any staff on the course the entire round. In fact we never waited once on any shot or tee box and two of us played the round in about 4 hours. I will be back to try and go a bit lower now that I have a general idea of the layout and greens. I'm sure I 'd play here more often if the green fee were a little lower. However, what I paid was worth the experience. I'd recommend it for anyone that keeps the ball in play most of the time. A driver is not always required for most par 4's under 400 yards. A well hit tee shot with a fairway wood or long iron will set you up for par most of the time. There are plenty of bunkers to contend with and smart club selection will keep you from logging high numbers. All in all a great course to play.

I am a lucky guy, got invited back, 8 AM tee time, warm sunny day. Course is back in pristine shape, a couple holes had a little mud in the fairways, but overall this track is in EXCELLENT shape. I cant afford the green fees, if I could afford them I wouldnt pay,, but this is a great track. Greens are a huge challenge. I hope to play again, if you can get on somehow do it. Has the hardest 4 par threes anywhere. Staff is VERY attentive. Class place.

Gotta say I did not pay for the green fees today, If I did I woulda been sorta upset. Course is in very nice shape, but, not that good,$$$$, for this kind of cash conditions should be perfect,Greens have a lot of unrepaired ball marks, greens are thin and this causes scars, lots of dirt in the fairways, lots of soft mushy fairway areas.I dont care what time of year or what the situation is for this kind of $$ it should be almost perfect. Orange County folks accept this and the rest of us just laugh and head on down to SCGA or Cross Creek. In a month or so Telaga will be in wonderful shape, but they will never get my $$$ ,nice place to entertain, but for middle class not on expense accounts it is stupid way to spend your dollars.

Rough was more clumps of grass between areas of dirt. They're prepping for aeration and overseeding. Cart guy said it would take place the first two weeks of October.

PLayed Sun. 8-15... The course is in great shape, as always. However, as time goes on, so do the amount of homes. The road on the back nine is almost done. Play this course before it gets too inundated. My only issues are the sand traps(not fluffy enough) and the price of food/drink. Anyways, still a great value for the service and amenities.

Played 8/14 in the morning. Greens were quick and fairly frm, but would hold most shots, including longer irons. hard to repar divots on greens so many marks and problem spots. pace was extremely slow, even with carts. Interesting course, but not worth the high fees with the slow play and average condition of greens and fairways. Rough was thick and wet. Some great individual holes, but not overly blown away, given its strong reputation.

I played this course last Thursday, June 24...Does a course get any better than this?...They give you fresh fruit before your round, you could hip on the practice green, and the course is in almost perfect condition...The only bad thing is the home being developed. A road also opened along one hole on the back 9...Play before it loses all its scenery...One more thing, I can't wait for Arroyo Trabuco...It's only $55 during the week...

A very classy facility with good service. Fresh fruits are provided before the round. 2 bottles of water are provided in the cooler. The golf course is in good condition. Very lush fairways and the rough is thick. The greens are in poor shape considering the high green fees and the bunkers were rather clay like. A good golf course with nice views around the housing estates.

The weather was cloudy early...By 11am, there was sunshine. The course is in great condition and not many people were playing the course. The service is awesome and they give you free tees, apples, oranges, and bottled water before you tee off. The large practice green is great, since it is exactly how the course greens are playing. They also let you chip on the practice green. If you get a chance, play here.

PLayed on Mother's Day. Course was wide open. Course is in overall good shape (lush fairways, nice tee boxes, good rough). The greens ran fast and were the worst feature on the course. We played mid day and it was like hitting approaches on to a cart path. They were harder than cement. No way to hold mid irons at all and I hit a high spinning iron. I wouldn't play here again until these greens mature. I even heard Freddy Couples was pissed about the hardness of the greens. Needs time to grow up and it will be a great course. SOFTEN THOSE GREENS!!!
They had great service there and awesome starter and cart girl who brought our lunch out to us on the course.

Started early and the course was wet. The fairways drained very well and were in great condition. The greens were generally smooth and fast as they dried. Some spots in the greens stayed wet due to inadequate drainage but not wet enough to negatively effect play. Even wet the greens were firm. Sand was in great condition and played consistently throughout. Always a fun course to play.

The tee boxes, fairways, and rough are in excellent shape. The bunkers are fiiled with crushed marble. The greens had some bumps due to ball marks but other than that they role smooth. I have played several of the $100-$150 golf courses in Orange County and Talega has the best layout. The fairways are reasonably wide but there are plenty of fairway bunkers. It is an enjoyable round of golf.

Always a fun layout, w/ long, testy par 3s and inviting par 4s and 5s. Greens have seen better days, but still good, w/ lots of undulations. Fairways are excellent, plush. GPS was quite precise w/ yardage to pin as well as front and back of green.

The staff was friendly and attentive. The pace of play is reasonably fast as well. I got every penny's worth. Always a joy to play on such a beautiful course w/ great layout, pace of play, service, and conditions.

Overseeding still in progress, so fairways are soppy wet. "Cart paths only restriction" nullifies the excellent GPS (which were timely w/ helpful tips, but the ads were a bit annoying) on carts. Greens have lots of undulations and are recovering quickly from aeratio. We barely noticed any potmarks on most greens. Greens were firm and most ballmarks were repaired. Good putts will hold their lines, but the ubiquitous undulation and multi-tiered greens add another level of challenge to scoring on this course.

Layout is aesthetically and architecturally pleasing, as the succession of holes winds thru the burgeoning housing developments of San Clemente hillsides. One of the prettiest courses in OC. Every hole seemed different, but especially pleasing was that every seemingly blind shot had a corresponding landmark to help the golfer aim. I used almost every club in my bag. Loved the layout (from the 600+ yd par 5 to the par 3 w/ cascading waters to the drivable par 4 w/ perilous risk/reward), hated the soppy wet overseeding conditions. Will definitely be back once the course recovers. It's obvious that powers that be really care about this new facility and take good care of it. Last bit of annoyance is the lack of driving range.

Three old guys from the SF Valley played on the 27th. Simply XLNT! Only drawback was no range and we all need a bucket to get loose. Played the course on Tuesday at 2:00 PM and finished in 4hour 15 minutes. The course is beautiful. It has a lot of blind shots so it will be much more fun next time when I know where to hit the ball (I found out where not to hit the ball this time!). The cost is still too high (what a surprise in OC). All around I think this is got to be in the top 3 courses in OC.

Customer Service was great from the bag drop, club house to the tee. This course was fun to play although it was pretty windy at times. Had 4 O.B's on the front nine which made for a pathetic front. Settled down on the back and really enjoyed myself.

$112 for green fees is rather steep for Friday at 1:00, not to mention $5 for a Heineken. Bringing my own next time.
I will definetly play this track again at twightlight rates during the week. Strawberry Farms and Oak Creek are $135 for the same time and don't compare to the layout and caliber of this course. Talega, in my opinion, is one of the TOP 3 courses top play in Orange County. Great Track!!

Great service all around. The course is in pristine shape, wonderful fast greens and lots of room for tee shot, then you come to the first 2 par threes. My $$ says these are two of the toughest in So Cal. Then back to normal golf. . Back 9 a little noisy due to construction but soon forgotten as the course demands attention. You can score on this track, 130 slope from the blues, its all ya want. Agree with Mazza,, Orange Co courses as a rule thinks EVERYONE is rich and acts like THEY are doing us a favor by being there. Lots of other venues to play these days. Talega is a very fun track

I dont understand how anyone can say anything bad about this course!!For a new course it is a great layout . The greens are some of the best ive putted on, the bunkers are in good shape and they really treat you well, unlike most courses these days. The thing that sucks about o.c. is there are not many GOOD tracks that are consistant from the course layout to the service,$30-$100 most of em suck.

Website rated this top3 for conditions so I went with alot of excitement. The fairways were soggy and had blue and white foam[?] everywhere. The sand traps had standing water and wet cement like condition. Most ofthe greens were severly ballmarked although they seemed to roll pretty true. Some pins were placed within a foot of what cold only be described as wounds. And lastly much of the back nine plays next to a huge landmoving project that is loud and ugly. Some Fairways have sensitive areas on one side and earth moving on the other. Ironic? Way too much money for this many problems. Wish I felt different becuase I looked forward to playing this course.

Talega is an awesome golf paradise! The front 9 is superb, with many challenging bunkers, but if you can stay away from them, you'll post a decent score! The back 9 has it's hazards too. The water hazards are tricky at times, especially around the greens because the ball does not stick - Very firm, true greens! From tee to green, this is one of my top three golf courses - well worth it for sure! I'll be playing many more games there in the near future! Thanks, what a good experience!

The course was in great shape and we played in 4 1/2 hours, it is a good 8.5 or 9.0 Rating.
I can't believe it's only two years old, the course looks much older.

On March 30th I played Talega with my 89 year old Dad. He is a member of the Pacific Club just down the street from Talega, but I convinced him that we should Talega. The weather was fantastic, but that is as good as it got.

When we arrived for our 12:08 start time, we were told that there were not any carts available as they had over booked the course. Then, we had to haul our own clubs down to the practice green because the crew was too busy to do it for us. Next we were told that our start would be delayed 30 minutes (which it was) because of the cart shortage.

More of a problem was that we were playing behind a tournament. The entire tournamnet group seemed to spend more time at the beer cart than on their golf. The course was littered with c%ck tail glasses starting with the first tee. There no supervision of the pace of play. We had to wait on every shot on every hole, the entire round. We did not finish play until after 6:00 PM. On many holes, there were 3 groups waiting to tee off. I expect this type of "experience" when I play a municipal course. I do not expect it when I pay what Talega charges.

Needless to say, my Dad and I did not have a good experience.

played on Nov. 3, 2002. Whole course was aerated. Fairways were wet and sloppy, greens all punched and sanded. Wait about 3 more weeks, and the course wil be sweet!
