Played the whites (5870/68.5/123) with fam members in pretty decent conditions. We had 10mph winds starting at 10:30 am, but had still air by 12:30pm. The place was all to ourselves. Tees were good and maintained. Fairways were pretty lush and helpful to rollout and layups. Rough was mowed both tight and deep at times, it just depends on where you go astry on each hole. Traps, no rakes anywhere, and they we're dense and needing just as many attempts at picking shots as well as exploding shots on to greens. Areas around greens, these are table-top greens needing approach discipline for chips and pitches...flops are your friend to hold close to pins. They we're mowed tight and similar to fringes, so shots could easily roll off greens. Approach shots from any distance, will rarely leave ball marks. Adapt and let the release occur with 5-10 yard finishes beyond the ball mark to end up with a better chance at one putting. The greens clearly ran faster and firmer as the heat and low humidity set in. I bogied #15 with a shot just left and on the fringe on the lower tier below the pin teir. I want another shot at this signature hole to either par or birdie it. They are building homes around both the south and North courses, but only the north is open right now. The snack bar close by 2pm...so make your tee times appropriately. Paid $41, so reccomended right now.

Played as part of a series of courses IN THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST.
Enjoyed more than higher priced rounds at some "nicer" courses that shall be nameless. (The Golf Vato is a charitable sort). Golf bro (who turned out to be a bit of a wuss toward the end but that is another story) booked through one of those other booking deal dealies.

Teeing off early am, the pace was great, no complaints about course condition. Challenging tee to green for The Golf Vato.

No bunker rakes in the bunkers, so, do best with your feet, and give yourself a bunker drop if you find yourself in someone else's print.

Another bro (who also turned out to be a bit of a wuss) noted the lack of shade trees after surveying his view on first tee.

Nice views, a number of dramatic, water in play holes mixed in with some that sort of blended in with the desert surroundings.

So, the Golf Vato gives this course a solid 4.5 beans out of a possible 5.

Played here as the final round of a quick Palm Springs visit with GK member Kassper7 on a blustery and cold start 7:40AM tee time using the Golf Moose voucher. First time playing this course and although I was impressed at just how difficult it played (winds or not), perhaps the style of course doesn’t suit me or my game much and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have hoped. Conditions today were probably on par with what the facility is supposed to be, but for a course that features a small resort/vacations residences, nothing easy about its play!

Tee boxes: Played the yellow tees today and was the first time I have EVER seen a non-first tee time out situation in which the markers weren’t spaced out on the boxes; that is to say we came upon every tee box up to and including the last hole and the markers were simply side by side either in front of or to the side of the corresponding tee box, very odd. I barely remember the conditions of them because I was so befuddled with why they were like this.

Fairways: Good to great shape, the highlight for me of the round. They were visually pleasing (about 10x more so than the few holes on South I saw), offered good lies, and roll was fair.

Rough: Thick in many areas though a far greater penalty awaited you in the rocky/sandy native areas where the rough WASNT present!

Sand: Bunkers ranged from pathetic to pretty decent depending on the hole. Those that were awful had grass, areas of mud/rock hard dirt, and various other imperfections that begged the question “do these ever look good”. The good sand was mostly native areas.

Greens: Good I would say in terms of conditions. The roll was there for the most part, a few bumpy trails on putts though. Few divot but that stems from hard surfaces. Contouring, undulation, and mounding on these greens though was borderline ridiculous however. These greens looked like someone stashed nuclear waste under them. The false fronts were like the cliffs of Dover! Not sure how this is enjoyable to anyone not a scratch golfer but play at your own risk!

ETC: Property is pretty dated and has what Kassper7 called a “rustic” (tongue in cheek) feel. All
employees encountered were friendly. Carts are basic with basic GPS unit attached to driver side of cart (same one Shadow Ridge uses; shame on you Shadow Ridge, upgrade for God’s sake). Layout is interesting with wide variety of holes. Grill was open by end of round and had some great smelling and looking tacos! Pace today was an increíble 4 hours even with us getting nearly hit by impatient twosome behind us and waiting on group ahead of us. Cant say I’ll be back even for the price as I prefer to play better conditioned and more fair tests of golf in area rich with options.

Such a shame that this facility – with two really exceptional layouts – seems so customer UN-friendly. Had a 12:50 time here today as a single, knowing it could be a little dicey whether or not I’d finish. Then when I checked in, they had a sign and the guy informed me carts needed to be in by 4:30. So I said, “Ok, how’s that work… then someone drives me back out to wherever I was to finish?” And he said, “No, the golf course is closed at 4:30.” When I told him that’s ridiculous, his reply was, “We had a tournament today, sir” as if that has any relevance to deciding to close the course at least an hour before total darkness sets in. Now the good news: I actually finished, but only because I was so visibly angry about the situation when I dealt with the starter that he figured out a way to get me off early and playing the back nine first, which was wide open after the tournament for some reason. Only because of that, my group played quickly and were finished by 4:00, playing with three seniors visiting from Canada. Total POP around 3:30. If the starter hadn’t moved me around like that, I assume I would’ve finished about 13 or 14 holes by 4:30. What the heck kind of facility decides to close at 4:30 when it’s light until at least 5:30 and playable until probably 5:45 right now? I hadn’t been here for 6+ years and still remember the front desk person was really rude that time, too. But this goes beyond the front desk. This is ownership and/or management blatantly willing to screw their customers for no good reason. (Has the Covid golf boom already gone to the heads of some course management?) Anyway, the North course is in quite good condition. Holes 1, 8 & 9 are cart path only. The greens roll really good, but I’m a little concerned for their future. They are brownish/olive bermuda (I think) grass that seems very dry and brittle. Despite their firmness, they accept full shots pretty well. They rolled mostly smooth and medium-fast to fast. Fixing ball marks almost felt like you were damaging the green because the grass was so dry. Fairways were beautiful overseeded rye, providing good lies. Rough was the same stuff just a bit longer… long enough to potentially impact your swing, but I wouldn’t say deep. I played the yellow tees and several holes had black, yellow and white all bunched within a few yards of each other. There were quite a few divots on most tees but still plenty of good areas to choose from. Sand was good, although lots of footprints due to no rakes. (Practice putting green didn’t have cups; instead they had the pins with the peg on the bottom. Singles get single-rider carts; people who book together are expected to ride together.) Really great layout; one of my favorites in the Coachella Valley. Gorgeous weather today: Clear skies, little wind, lots of snow on San Jacinto. The only residences on the course are the timeshare bordering a few holes, but even then it’s rarely in play. The South course was not overseeded this year… looks a little scruffy and likely VERY firm and fast everywhere. Despite my love for the layout, not sure how anxious I am to return here unless ownership or management changes.

Played a 4-man Scramble here 12/5/2020. Frost Delay for about an hour to start. The course is in Great shape. I heard they just re-opened back up. I have always went to other courses in the area but if this is how the course is usually I will visit more frequently. Tee Boxes were plush no uneven lies from the Yellow=Blue. Fairways were great not to many thin spots at all and the rough was great. Not too many thing negative on this course right now. I understand we are in Covid so bunkers are raked pre rounds and you get what you get. Greens were med-fast, not a lot of balls marks. Played very grainy. I was very pleased and happy. POP was awesome, maybe waited 2 holes. Cart girl was AWESOME, seen her 4 times in our round. They also had a food and beverage stand set up outside making food and serrving drinks also. Thumbs Up. Happy Customer

Teed off at 11am on Saturday, 10/24, with a $55 deal time. Check in was easy. Hit a small bucket on the grass range and were off on time. We waited on every single shot and took 5.5 hours to finish. Conditions were decent with the fairways with good coverage and the greens rolling quick. The course has a great design and there are definitely some challenging holes. But 5.5 hours is way to long to play 18 holes of golf anywhere. $55 was a great deal for a decent course but the pace just killed the day.

My second round of my weekend in Palm Springs was at Terra Lago North. During this round, my father-in-law joined me. We had a 8:10am tee time on a VERY hot and VERY humid Saturday morning.

I absolutely hate to write a negative review about a golf course but this particular outing was pretty rough to say the least. I know golf courses do the best they can with what they have to work with so I hate to give them a hard time.

The staff at this course was not friendly at all. The guy behind the counter basically told us to go pick up your bag, go find your cart, go load up your bag, and get out of the pro shop. My father-in-law and I were joking about it when we left the clubhouse but it was actually pretty unwelcoming to say the least. We were also not made aware that the range was closed. We showed up early to hit some balls. The only explanation we got was "it has been closed all year". We hit some putts but we had like a half hour to kill so we ended up standing around a lot.

There were multiple groups on the first tee. There were the normal tee times teeing off and there was also the groups coming up that started on the back nine. I see what other have complained about with the back nine groups coming up and jumping in before your tee time. It was brutal. Luckily, the starter took us over and let us go off on #10. By doing that, he probably saved us an hour and a half or more in the heat. We didn't not see a single group in front of us the entire round. It was actually pretty awesome. Thank you to the starter for that.

The course conditions were pretty bad compared to other courses in the area. The fairways had a lot of bare areas. The rough did as well. The bunkers were actually in really good shape and were the bright spot of the course.

The greens were absolutely brutal and brutal is a complement. We were not made aware that the greens were punched. These greens were punched in a way that I have never seen before. Every green had these lines about 1/4" wide and about an inch apart that ran all the way across the green. The ball would literally get stuck in one of these lines when you would putt. It was the craziest thing I have ever seen.

The layout of the course is actually quite fun. The holes around the clubhouse are awesome (and tough) with the island greens and the massive lakes. They would be absolutely beautiful holes if the course was in better condition. The front nine actually has quite a few elevation changes.....I was pleasantly surprised. The layout is really really good in my opinion.

Again, I hate to write negative reviews because I know this can have a negative influence on the golf course. Hopefully this course is able to turn it around after the summer heat is over but right now, there are way to many other great courses in the area. I personally (as well as my father-in-law) probably will not be back to this course. It is a shame too because the layout seems that it could be quite fun in better condition.

Checked in early to hit balls but the range was closed. I asked the starter about the range and he grumbled something about people being together and that the range is 700 feet from the starter. He mentioned the distance a few times, almost as if he was caddying my range session.
He didn't have to be a dick but maybe he was having a rough morning.

Rolled some putts on the practice green which was slow but at least true.

Tee'd off #1 and I was on my way. Course was in goodish condition but I'm sure its nowhere
near its prime winter time. Greens were slow like the putting green but at least rolled true.
Layout of the course is really fun and the views are super cool if you like the hollow soul the
desert topography creates. Looking forward to playing here again.
