Stayed and played at the Marriott over LAbor Day Weekend. (The wife and I took advantage of a $200 per night + unlimited golf pakage). I played the Valley course twice on sunday (a.m. and p.m.). I was a bit surprised at the bare spots in fairways and just off the greens. The greens were somewhat sandy, but mostly fine. I shot my best score ever (76 from the whites) by myself while playing a solo round in less than two hours (good thing too as it was 102 degrees)..

Two positive comments:

1) the pro shop and starters were fantastic and polite.
2) the water from the fountains is especially good. They give you a cup and a coole rof ice and you just fill up every 3 holes.

Back in 2005 this course was incredible. What happened? Marriott shouldn't allow the courses to look like it did today. 08/10/08

Decided to play a round last minute while on a weekend getaway with the wife. ("Honestly babe, the clubs are ALWAYS in the car! Isn't that convenient??!?") Desert Spring Palms is the more popular course...apparently it's in a little better condition than Valley is...but there was no waiting on this course. Played a round on my OWN in 2 1/2 hours. OK, I started at noon and it was 114 degrees, but still... I loved this course. If you can overlook that some greens had some really bad bare spots it's a really fun layout. I had my best round in months, even including the fact that I was getting heat stroke on the last three holes. Bonus: the cart girl saw my birdie...woohoo!!! (One last tip: stock up on water for the front nine. No fountains or anything although there were plenty on the back nine.)

I was not happy with the condition of most of the greens. There were lots of bare, yellow, and slow spots today. The fairways were not to good either. Many times you will get a lie with no grass under your ball. I wonder why the Palms side is in better shape??? The Valley side has less water holes but more fairways that undulate.

the sand traps were not consistent...some hard pan no sand, some fluffy and some hard like clay...greens were just a bit bumpy, slow but rolled pretty good. best stay/play package in palm springs...beautiful resort

Played Sat 6/7, 8 am shotgun. course is in it's best shape since the past 4 years at this time of year. greens are smooth and not painfully slow, just palm springs summer resort golf slow, but they are smooth. the rest of the course in great shape. tons of tourneys this weekend, including the one i was in. pool scene awesome! tee off early, hit the pool after. not too hot... forecast for 110, but didn't hit 100.

Good value. Nice challenging layout. Good pace of play for a resort course. Greens are slow and inconsistant as of this writing. Sand traps are very thin with hard bottoms.

I was misled by the "immaculate" rating. It's not as good as other courses around like Escena which really is immaculate. It might not be fair to compare to a new course but most disappointing is the slow greens. While things are kept up very nicely, the course felt old, like going on a 40 year-old ride in Disneyland. Otherwise service was good and resort atmosphere is nice and the summer rate is fair.

Played sat 6/2 7:30 shotgun. great shape. greens are nice, not painfully slow like they can be. overcast until 10, so not hot at all... probably peaked at 90 while we were on the course.

Played both resort courses at the Desert Springs and I believe both are great. The Palm is a bit more flat with more dramatic water features. The Valley has more slight elevation changes with wide open fairways. Both courses are immaculate with my only quip being the sand was a little clumpy due to the heavy water needed during the heat. Overall, both make for a quick, enjoyable, and relaxing round. However, if forced to only pick one to play, I would chose the Palm.

Played the course on 21 Nov and it is in great condition. Desert springs is always one of the favorites when I am in the Palm Springs area. Outstanding staff and great amenities.

Much like the last reviewer we arrived on 6-25 with a large group scheduled to play four days of golf. We were told that the Palms course was closed till 7-20 and all play would be on the Valley. First off I have been coming here for 6 yrs and have always enjoyed playing the Palms much more and when told that we would be stuck on the Valley for the week, that sucked. The greens were awfull, fairways tore up, tee boxes not level on several holes, by far the worst condition i have ever seen here. Add on 5 1/2 hour rounds due to all the play going on one course and it all adds up to this being my last summer golf fest here.

Played Sat 6/3. Course in good shape. Greens were painfully slow. I am not a big fan of this course. The Palm is much more interesting. The only hole I like on this course is 18. Most of the other holes seem the same. Play the Palm.

It was HOT...110, they say. Stay hydrated!!

Played a couple times the weekend of 6/25. Not nearly as nice as the Palm course, and not in as good as shape. Tee Boxes, rough and fairways had bare spots. Greens were way slow, slower than the Palm.
