6/2 using GroupGolfer $24 with range balls voucher POP 3 3/4(played the blues listed at 6700 but in reality not much over 6300) moving leisurely sometimes walking between shots and occasionally having to hunt down the errant ball--never really saw anyone until we got to the 18th and then only waited a minute for them to clear the green. Nice welcome from Jeff at the desk and chatted some with the grounds crew--everyone friendly and giving assurances that serious effort is being put into making improvements. At this time however I have to report that it is a work in progress--the major issue continues to be the fairways--there are some areas that are really nice--unfortunately that is the exception. According to Jeff they are drilling in a different variety of bermuda but in the mean time there are lots of bare areas that can be rather muddy. The areas along the fairways have been converted to bare sand/dirt and there is no rough. I think that it would be best to play preferred lies within the boundary of the fairways and agree that the drilled areas are GUR--which we did not do--so I played from quite a few sketchy lies. Fairway bunkers are firm to hard--greenside were well groomed with a rather course/heavy sand. Due to not having liners quite a few rocks have been pulled to the surface. Tees level most with good cover. Greens look really good rolling at medium speed with a a little grain to contend with--more on the softer side and pretty receptive. Large practice green consistent with on course conditions. Grass driving range and a large chip/pitch/bunker green is also available Newer carts now with GPS that gives distance to trouble as well as to the greens. The links layout provides a scenic alternative and the variety of holes keeps your attention. Even with the fairway issues the quality of the greens balances out the value. Right now The golf moose $49 2 some deal is a fair price for the course as it is.

4/12 GroupGolfer $48 2 some using the white distances(6281) as indicated on the score card as our tee area which essentially meant we played the blues--score card is screwy--- Fairways have more cover but are inconsistent with some needing to be mowed--some rather thin and a couple still showing the pattern of drill seeding as the grass grows in rows. Lies were just ok--rather sandy soil underneath so ok for cushion. A few bare areas caused by run off but mostly where shots are not going to land. Divots appear to be filled about 1/2 the time--dont know how the grass will fill in as the root systems look rather shallow, There is NO rough--all the areas along the fairways have been graded leaving a 10 yard swath of sandy soil leading to the many burns and natural areas mostly marked as hazards. Tees have good cover some to the point of seeming a little overgrown. Bunkers have fairly good sand and looked to have been recently groomed--unfortunately some have an abundance small rocks. Greens were about medium speed--having a little more grain and not being as fast nor as smooth as I remember. Also they have let the apron grow in so there are no transition from fairway length grass to green--not a step forward in my opinion. New people working the desk again--nice enough but didnt have a lot of information as to why some things are the way they are. Did report that aeration is to start 4/16. I enjoy the layout which provides an interesting change from the tree lined courses we usually play--just dont expect great conditions--its better than just playable and hopefully the fairways will continue to develop. The course needs player support but right now it seems hard to justify rates much above $20.

We played Summer, yesterday (Mar. 18th), for the first time in about a year. Last year, in all honesty, I couldn't recommend this course. What a difference a year has made, though. With all of the rain, a picture of the 18th sent to us from the course staff, and a few positive reviews, we decided to make the trip out to the links. As soon as I got out of the car, I was pleasantly surprised with the portion of the course that I could see. This course has come a long, long way from the condition it was in just a few years back. The young fairway grass has taken root (for the most part), and course is starting to shape up. The greens are all looking good, now. I couldn't write that last year, and that was the biggest reason that we haven't been back in awhile. The tee boxes look good, too. The water hazards actually have water, now, and that adds to the course's appeal and difficulty.

Now, is this course perfect? No, it is not. If you're looking for country club conditions, then I wouldn't bother playing it. There are some stubborn bare patches in the fairway, where the grass is just not taking root, yet. Further, it looks as if there's some turf reduction taking place on a few of the fairways. While it's not aesthetically pleasing, it certainly didn't affect my game. There's no rough on this course, except around the greens, but that's what I would expect of this type of course. The bunkers were all nicely groomed, although, I found one that was very wet (my bad luck). All through the day, I just kept remarking on the improvements, and I wanted to be sure to let others know that this course is on the mend. I'm sure there are other golfers out there that remember when the 10th fairway was nothing but dirt just a few years ago. Not anymore. It was nice to see. Others may remember when the greens were dead around the edges, were diseased, and had weeds growing out of them. That is no more. My compliments and thanks to the staff. Keep up the good work. We will be back, soon.

Played the Links at Summerly on Sunday, February 12, 2017, after not having played the course in several years. As always, the clubhouse was great, and pro shop personal friendly and efficient. The course was open, and played the front nine without waiting on any holes (I played as a single). Of course, the pace of play was exceptional! The tee boxes were in good shape, and the green were very good. I was concerned the course would be holding a lot of water from recent rains, but not a problem. However, I must admit, the fairways were unacceptable. There was substantial brown patches all throughout the fairways. And where there was grass on the fairways, it was so thin, it was hardly preferable to hitting off the barren hardpan. Simply dismayed with the conditions, I abandoned the round after 9 holes. It will take extreme conditons for me to revisit the course again without substantial improvements.

Played here today at 12:00 with a TeeOff.com “Deal” time minus 25% promo code. As mentioned in a previous review, they didn’t show my reservation in their computers and they said there is some sort of glitch with TeeOff.com times that they often don’t show up. Fortunately I’d printed the confirmation and the pro shop guy sent me right out, no hassle. Keeping the theme from my round earlier this week, I played the front nine in about 1:10 while playing through one group. On the ninth hole I caught another group and then the whole back nine was pretty much stacked up and full of players. The back took probably about 2:20-2:30 for an overall POP of about 3:45. This was my second time here. The first time was prior to the course closing for a while, and conditions were not good at all that time. This time they were maybe a little better. The good news is the greens are quite nice. They were smooth, soft and pretty quick (medium-fast). The 15th green has some unfortunate damage where it looks like some jerk did donuts in their cart on the green. That damage looks to be mostly healed and it didn’t seem to affect my long, cross-green putt on that hole. The fairways and rough are where the course still really needs lots of work. Some fairways have decent grass coverage and others do not. Some that have grass seem well maintained and others seem shaggy, like they’ve been ignored for a few days. The rough is probably the most difficult part of the course to rate, because they are clearly focusing on trying to grow grass down the middle of each hole. On many holes, everything to the sides of that “fairway” area is bare dirt. On other holes, there is some grass. There is rough around the tee boxes and greens, but again the conditioning of that grass is inconsistent throughout. If you don’t mind moving your ball to grass (I do), you might not have too much of an issue with the fairways and rough. It’s best to expect your ball to be on dirt and then be pleasantly surprised if you end up on grass. The bunkers I was in were nice. Tee boxes are pretty good and seem to be consistent throughout the course. Overall, for the rate I paid and going in with knowledge of their situation (read: extremely lowered expectations), I enjoyed the round and would recommend you play it at that rate, as long as you know what you’re in for. Perhaps the best way to see the conditions is through my photos, so I uploaded a Flickr album of 40 photos from today here: https://goo.gl/JFuTw6 A few more notes: Many fairways are roped off to cart traffic, and others are not. It seems they’ve added 100/150/200 yard poles along the edge of the fairways on the front nine. On the back, there were none and it can be very difficult to find a sprinkler head or any type of yardage. Hopefully those poles are slated for installation on the back, too. Shirts in the pro shop had the “Links Championship at Summerly” name but no where else did I see the “Championship” part included. Not sure if they’ve dropped that or what. The scorecard no longer includes what used to be the tips, with the blues maxing out the course at 6,741 yards.

11/11 using teeoff deal time under 3 1/2 hr POP with hardly any one on the course when we started at 9am no waiting and no rushing--still have fairways roped off(not that it stopped a few idiots from driving into wet areas as evidenced by the tracks)--so there was quite a bit of walking which was kind of nice on such a pleasant day. We were here 10 days ago and overall conditions have continued to improve. Fairways have been mowed and the center 20-30 yard provided good lies. #4 and #17 are slower to fill in and the 1st 200 yards are rather thin. All the holes from 100 in have good cover and there is ample grass in front of and around the greens. Most holes have at least 150-190 yrds of carry to reach the fairway proper, No rough--fairways are flanked by bare sandy dirt(softer than the waste areas but playable) or waste bunkers(firm and packed) and farther out weeds and brush. Tees are lush have been mowed and were really good-level with very few divots. Bunkers have good sand fine grains but nicely compacted and recently groomed(there are some rocks). 2 or more rakes present around the trap often right next to the footprints-- however no instructions there as a reminder to actually use them. Greens are very lush soft for the most part--medium speed and more grain with the extra water--rolled well but had to keep the pace through the hole to stay on line. #10 does have a few small bare patches that did not effect play. Staff are really friendly and genuinely glad to welcome you out to play. Progress is being made and conditions are improving--the course is in decent playing shape. quick alert just got email $25 green fee for Friday 11/4 call the club 11/2 using teeoff deal time $21 rate on a comfortably warm am with about a 2 club north/north east wind coming up on about the 8th hole so with the layout we were playing with or into a quartering breeze and opposite from usual prevailing conditions. 3 1/2 hr POP partly thanks to friendly 4some that let us as a 2 some take the tee--never held them up and never caught any of the 2somes out ahead. Fairways showinfg evidence of the re-seeding and are roped off--most are still pretty tender with new grass and without much mowing. Back 9 grass looked to be more mature and some holes had been mowed. We did lift clean and place because some areas were a little iffy--truth is we could have played them down and would have had only a few marginal lies. There is no rough along the fairway being bordered by sandy dirt through out. A little longer grass around the greens. Tees lush with good cover but could use mowing. Bunkers have a fine nicely compacted sand which is quite playable but also a lot of rocks some better than golf ball size. Fairway bunkers have the same sand which makes for a more challenging shot as the ball tends to sit down. Waste areas are hard packed and playable. Greens are quite good rolling smoothly at mostly a medium to just under medium fast. Big greens with a great variety of pin options and some subtle breaks. Overall I was impressed with the progress so far and can see the potential as the grass continues to grow. Met some of the new staff Larry the head pro, Mitch a new shop staff member and Will who was on duty when we finished. Everyone was really friendly--glad to have us come out--and appear well oriented to provice good golfer oriented customer care. Just a note according ti Larry, if you use teeoff call the shop to confirm because their computer doesnt get the info.

Early morning round in just over four hours on a course that just reopened. The staff is friendly here as always and the pro shop small but very nice. The tee boxes are very thick, lush and long - needed to be cut. The fairways have filled in very well since our last visit here. Most all were still thin in places, but much improved and playable if you keep the ball where it should be off the tee. The fairways were roped off on several holes to keep the carts off them. This made sense being that many places were still growing back in on many of the holes. I would suggest that the only roped off areas be the fairways that are still coming back and not the unseeded waste landings along them. There would be less golfers driving thru the staked areas if this were done. The thickness of fairways grass varied from great to marginal - but definitely moving in the right direction of improved conditions! The greens were nice and green and free of marks since this was only the second day the course has been open in some time. The greens held shots well but most were very slow rolling. Most traps and waste areas are littered with rocks. The water features on the course have all but disappeared with the exception of the pond near the driving range. The back tees have not been reseeded and it looks as if they have been abandoned? The overall feel of the course is much improved and very playable. The parking lot was fairly full at the completion of our round. Fees are very reasonable and hopefully the weather and ownership bring this course back to what it once was. I would encourage those that have played here before give the course another chance - they might be surprised!
