great course, challenging from the blue tees!!! a bit pricey for the long drive out there...they need to have some deals to make it worth the drive next time....

Played afternoon, Saturday May 10th.

Started out w/ lunch in the clubhouse. My mother-in-law had a chicken tortilla soup that she thought was excellent. Myself and my 2 playing partners all had the Oak Valley Special - a burger w/ bacon and mushrooms. All the food was very good, I'd eat there again for sure.

Now on to the important stuff, the course.

this course is in AMAZING shape right now. tee boxes were all in phenomenal condition, greens were in excellent shape, and the fairways were nearly spotless as well....even the rough was well taken care of...i'm not sure i've played a course that was in better shape in my 5 years of playing in southern california.

great job oak valley staff!!!

early a.m. tee time on May 3. The course is in A condition. Everything is working well here right now - even the grill in the clubhouse. They have a new asian chef, and she personally came out and offered us a sample of a chicken cutlet dish. It tasted great. The service here really stands out, and that is what makes it a first rate facility. They don't waste any money on the fluff; they put it into the golf course, and it shows. It was beautiful day; it probably never got warmer than 80 degrees. If you're a serious player, this is the place to enjoy right now.

WIND! Played 4/13/08 on the way back from Palm Springs and it was windy. I have not played this course for about three years or more and lots of changes (houses, hotel and more). The course is a great fun couses to play with fast true greens. Now the bad part, not only was it windy but we were behind a THREESUM that was so SLOW that thay did not keep up with the foursum in front of them! Infact thay were over two holes behind at the finish. Marshall what Marshall. Not the way to end a long weekend (Wed to Sun.) with the boys.

Played Saturday morning. What a pleasure to play a course that is well conditioned. We were lucky that the greens hadn't been aerated. The greens are tricky with subtle undulations but they putt very true. I found that the greens were very receptive and your putts really held the line.
The fairways are perfect, the ball sits up and are dry enough to give you that extra roll. Great Track!

The Pro Shop is well stocked and friendly. The snack bar is a welcome change to the high prices at other clubs.

I recommend this course highly

The greens need to be softened so that they will hold on approach shots, otherwise you have to hit before the front of the green to keep your ball from rolling off the back.

We played Oak Valley for the first time on 2/29/08. It was a warm and beautiful day, a little breezy. Keep you drives in the fairway, or you will be punished by uneven lies or a lost ball if it gets in the thick stuff. There is water that comes into play on some holes, but you don't have to take a direct line over the water. The greens are too hard and fast. Shots into the green were not holding and running off the back. If you had a front pin placement, it was almost impossible to get the ball close. You definitely need to stay below the hole on these greens.
Overall, the course setup is very fair and the scenery was impressive with the snowcapped mountains and the deep-blue color of the water on the course.

played early morning on Sat Feb 2. It was d%mn cold, but still a fun round. The course is in very good condition considering how cold its been. The entire course is playing very, very firm. Fairways were tight, and the greens were rock hard and non-receptive. I've played in Scotland, and when the turf is this firm, you're going to have to hit different types of shots - i.e., where you can, punching and running it up to the green isn't a bad play. The staff here is very professional and simply does a great job.

I played Oak Valley on 12-30-2007 and the course was in great condition. The greens were a dream to putt on and fixing divots is a joy. More courses should learn from the way Oak Valley made their greens. They are consistantly in fabulous condition. We played in just under four hours teeing off at 10:30 on a Sunday. OhhhVee!!!

Me and my pals played yesterday at 9:30. We brought online coupons only to find out that they were no longer accepted. Before I had a chance to protest, the proshop guy said that he felt bad for us driving all that way to pay full price when we didn't think we were going to. He gave us the senior rate for our trouble, which was actually a better discount than the coupon. When I brought that to his attention, he said "don't worry about it". Talk about great customer service! Another great experience happened about a half-hour later. When we hit range balls and were ready to tee off, we got to #1 and we showed the starter our recipt. He said "I've only got one question". I thought, uh oh, he wants to ask us what tees we were planning to play from (I hate being told what tees I can or can't use). But to my surprise, he wanted to know how three guys who didn't look over 30 got the senior discount. That's what I'm talking about folks. It's all about customer service. Nobody wants to deal with starters/marshalls that have the gate-keeper mentality who have power trips. This was a wonderful experience.

As for the course, since they had Tour School Qualifiying here 3 weeks ago, the course was immaculate. The greens were the best I've seen them, and I've seen these greens in great shape before. They were fast, true, and firm. The rest of the course was also in great shape. Better get here while it lasts.

Wow! It had been about 4 years since I last played here. Of course I've always loved the layout, but the condition of the course was fantastic. Perhaps because they had PGA qualifying here just recently, it was extra nice, but I suspect the course is kept this way all the time. Everything about the course was first rate. A true pleasure to play!

Played Halloween at 12:00. As always course in great shape and have no complaints about the conditions. The only thing that was a bummer was tha absence of a beverage-cart. It was a slow day so I guess it's understandable but I still wanted a gatorade or a little snack about the sixth hole. Everything else about this course that has to with golf is spot on. They will be having Q-School in the next week or next so if you want to play the course you may want to do it now or wait til Q-School is over.

Played mid-morning today. This was my first round here in about 9 months, and I was not disappointed. The course is in nearly perfect condition. The greens have got to be among the very, very best in SoCal. These greens are receptive, but glass quick at the same time. Very few ball marks, if any. Everything else about this course works so well too. For example, just off the 10th tee, there is a small practice green as well. I'm not sure I've seen that at any other course. The course also uses the red-white-blue flag system, which in conjunction with a range finder, works really well. The new golf carts are top notch too. The tee boxes could have been shaved a little better, but that is a minor complaint. They're growing the rough out - it was very lush today. Q-School must be around the corner. This place continues to be one of the best values, and best facilities, in SoCal.

Played Oak Valley on a cold and wet SoCal day - first time I have played in conditions like that on this side of the Atlantic. They have real rough too - so when you miss the fairway there is actually a price to pay. Best greens of any course I have played this year, including private courses and Palm Springs resort courses.

This is a challenging course from the blues and sloping, small greens offer small targets. Not easy to read either. Soft fairways meant the par 5s were all but out of reach in less than 3 shots so no 2 putt birdies either.

Suffice to say I live 90 miles from this course and would not hesitate to go back.

Played today 10/4/07 could not ask for better day. Play was slow 4 3/4 hours. This course is by far in the best shape of any course I have played all year. It can be difficult as the rough is rough and hard to find ball at times. Must keep ball in fairways. Very nice course

course was in great shape, top to bottom. the greens were great, very few ball marks and they putted consistently. fairways and rough had very few bare spots, mostly green and lush.

a few wet bunkers, but other than that, the course conditions were very good. after the first tee, we barely saw a soul- no one in front of us, no one behind us.

Only play when going out to Palm springs area. Management needs to offer discounts on weekday since not much play and what a waste. Staff is less friendly than expected and slow play at par 3's. Course ususlly in good shape but with hot weather maintenance has slipped below normal.

Played today, 8/28, in 110 degree heat! Yikes! I have always loved this course and decided to go back. Great course! The marshall/started is a great guy! Greens are sensational! Some burned out spots here and there on the edges of the fairways but overall very nice! I played alone. Teed off at 11:00 and played in 2 hours 10 minutes...and that's hitting an extra ball here and there.

The course is going to close completely for reseeding from Sept. 4th through Sept. 15th.

Played on Father's Day. (shot an 87 for the curious folks)

The greens were in great shape, smooth and putted very true. For the most part, so were the fairways, although there were a few brown patches. The tee boxes also had a few brown patches but few divots. Overall, however, the entire course was in very good shape.

My only complaint is that the bunkers were wet. I see this at a lot of courses in the area though, so it's not a problem that's endemic to Oak Valley. IMO, all bunkers should be bone dry. They actually had a couple of bunkers that had standing water (one w/ enough water to swim in). But, again, there was only standing water in 2 bunkers. Most were pretty wet though.

They have new carts, but they should have added GPS. IMO, that speeds up the pace of play. It was a 4.5 hour round on Sunday, but it was Father's Day, so I've got no real complaints there.

The views from this course are amazing, and the course is very nicely landscaped - lots of great mature trees. We saw tons of wildlife, including a mother lynx w/ 3 cubs on the par 4 2nd hole.

Overall, my impression of this course was very good. It's a relatively challenging track, but a fair test. I actually prefer Oak Valley over the two PGA courses across the freeway.

Now this is a place to play a round of golf. Excellent course conditions, greens rolling true with some pace, and a design worth its weight in gold. Though it faces stiff competition from the SCPGA across the freeway, this is truly the best course of the three. Has demanding holes that require good shots and distance control if you want to score. Position on the green is critical in order to score, even though the greens are small. When the rough gets long, fairways are a must. When you play you will understand why the "Q" school always uses this track for its second stage of qualifying. Be smart and choose your playing tees wisely, playing too deep will make for a long frustrating day. When in this condition Oak Valley is second to none, including all the upscale courses down the road in Palm Springs. Housing construction is going on all around the course, yet the course still maintains a fairly open natural feel. Playing on this side of the freeway is also much more time friendly, as most players are on the other side. Teed off at about 8:00am and playing casually with some practice shots, still finished in less than 4 hours and saw nobody else, ahead or behind us. This was golf at its finest.

Played here early morning 5-12-07. I haven't been out here since last summer, and I know that they recently closed the course to do some construction. The course re-opened about 3 weeks ago apparently, and I am happy to report that Oak Valley is back! Some of the scrub has been cut back, and they've constructed some underground tunnels to access some of the tee boxes. The course is in very, very good condition. Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens were all excellent. The only fairway that is average is Hole 8, I believe. They've always had drainage issues on this hole, so the fairway can get a little soggy in spots. The greens were soft and receptive and smooth, but not necessarily super fast. Just medium fast. We had a great time, finished the round in 4 hrs, and we're really pleased with the course. Great job to the staff at Oak Valley.

First time playing here.
This is a great course. I was told this is were they hold Q-school. The course played as expected. Greens were fast and you have to read them from both sides to be sure.
Fairways were nice, thin and rolled pretty well.
Roush was narly (according to my playing partners) and the sand (according to me) was not the place to be in on any hole. Plenty of bunkers protecting greens, which made it interesting for all approach shops.
The staff was very good. From the lady that made breakfast to the marshalls on the course.
If you ever have an oppurtunity to play this course, take advantage of it, it is truly a nice challenging course.

PS.
Bring all of your clubs, it will test all of your game.

Played here mid February on an extended local golf tour that included So Cal PGA and Oak Quarry. I really enjoy this course, some very interesting holes. Greens are very fast and the subtle slopes will break more than you think. With the lack of rain this course is drying up, but still very playable. Hopefully the recent rains have helped.

The staff at Oak Valley is just superb! Very friendly and helpful, and willing to move slower players falling behind along.

For a great challenge on a fine course, Oak Valley is an excellent choice.

Course was in average shape. The greens were bumpy, but very fast. The fairways were thin. The bunkers were pretty good.

I was not overly impressed by this course. The layout is good, but it needs some serious maintenance improvements. Customer service was not very good.

I doubt that I would play here again, especially for the cost.

Played in mid February. The layout/design is very nice, well designed. The greens are generally large, and undulating, fairways generous. Sand/rough wasn't great, but don't go there!! However the conditon of the greens was poor. Whether it be the two weeks of unseasonably cold weather early I don't know, but they were in awful shape, bumpy, uneven growth acutually took away alot of the enjoyment. I would play it again, if the conditions were good. Staff/service was very good, pace was quite slow.

I played there about 6 months ago, after having not played there in a quite awhile. I regarded this course as one of the absolute best I have ever played at the time. Such a great variety of holes with each a unique personality. Challenging yes, fun, a big yes and the variety of shots and clubs used, wow. But I must say I was SOOO dissapointed in the fact houses had been slapped up since the last time I played. I understand the reason, and the profit involved, but I feel that the layout has ruined the course. In look, in noise factor, and the way some holes played because of the wind has been changed from its original unprotected design. I feel a great layout has been tarnished. Couldnt the builders have not built homes so close to tee boxes? I really dont like to hear phone conversations while Im teeing it up. So Sad, I play ONE more time for a final review.......

Play here every winter while visiting. Played on Monday, Jan. 8, and the wind was, oh I don't know, 100 m.p.h. It was brutal, especially downwind where it was hard to hit short shots with confidence. Course, however, was in beautiful condition, and bascially empty. Totally worth the drive from Pasadena, where I was staying.

Played mid-morning Nov 4. I hadn't been out here in nearly a year because the last time we were here, the course was a mess. It was sad, because prior to that, this course had always been in great shape. Always. It was one of our favorite places to play because the staff is friendly and it's just about the golf here. Well, I'm happy to report that Oak Valley is back. In a big way. They're getting ready for Q-School, so the course is playing great right now. Fairways are lush and fairly tight, and the greens, while still recovering from being punched, are coming back just nicely. They're not rolling as fast as Champions at PGA across the freeway, but they're certainly in good condition. If you've never played out here at this time of the year, prepare for the wind. The entire round we had to club up about 1 1/2 clubs. Made for a challenging round.

Played today at 9:00 and the course was in great shape. The fairways were lush the rough was thick overall with a nice first cut. the greens were perfect rolled true and quick. The only problem I saw was some water in a couple of sand traps but the ones that I found myself in were fine.:) The staff was very polite except for the d%mn guy that was mowing right next to me while I was trying to get up and down. Besides for the guy on the mower I highly recommend this course!

The greens are awesome. Fast and true, like carpet. The course is dry but it so going to get reseeded in a few days. I can't wait to play this course again when the finish reseeding and get it lush. Again the greens were maybe the best I have played on. Very few ball marks, people fixed what I saw and they were tough. This can easliy be a 8.5-9.0 course in a month or so.

What happened to this place? Played here recently after having not played here in about five years. It used to be one of my favorites, but I think I rode in the same cart from when I played here the last time. All attention to detail seems to be gone. The carts are a disaster. It took us three carts to make it around the course and our playing partners had to push that one in. The staff acted like we were bothering them when we asked for a cart that actually worked. The course just seems like a shotty shell of its former self. Greens are really slow and bumpy. Too bad. I'll wait another five years before I'll be back.

I had the pleasure of playing this wonderful course today and had a great time. The staff was outstanding from the begining, range balls included in the greens fee, and the driving range was in top shape. I purchased the yardage book at the pro shop and would recommend anyone playing the course fot the first time to spend the 5 bucks for one as it was very useful. the course was in outstanding condition althouth the greens were slower than what I had expected. most holes have generous landing areas off the tee and give you many options on how you play the hole. It is hitting into the greens that the course design excells, hit good shots you'll be rewarded with good chances at birdie or an easy par. Miss the green and you might be facing a tough up and down. Hit the wrong part of the green and a 3 putt is might be your fate. Pace of play was good, I just wish this course was a little closer to home. Overall its an enjoyable test of golf that I'll play as often as I can.

One of our favorite courses. Only play it a couple times per year but always in good shape. A good variety on course layout and excellent greens. We played on March 30th and had a little rain but still enjoyed the course. They are now giving free range balls with prime time tee-times(something they did years ago). Bunkers were in very good shape and firm.

Course very good shape for this time of year. However, would have given it a much higher rating had greens been better. They seem to be a bit bumpy on the front only. Back was, for whatever reason, much smoother and a bit faster. And since we played the back first...it was not a pleasant surprise making the turn. Maybe it's just a temporary thing.

Talked with the golf shop and they told me the collars of the greens were accidentally spayed from a tank that had “Roundup” residue in it! They thought they could save the collars but it appears they have to re-sod them once the weather warms up. The greens themselves actually roll pretty smooth yesterday although they had some sand on them (probably helped) and did not have that dark green look. The rest of the course was in very good condition. The sanded/dead collars are an eyesore. I’m inclined to play across the street until they fix this or offer a reduced rate. Prior warning would have been nice from the course. Guess I should have read the previous feedback.

I agree with the previous comment about the sand and cuts around the greens. They were not anywhere close to top-notch condition, but they rolled true. Played on 2/18/06 and d%mn near froze our asses off, so check the weather. It's ten degrees colder here than the Palm Springs area. No way is this course worthy of 4 1/2 stars, but it's a fun track. People were very nice there. No GPS, ancient ass carts too. The carts were so old, I felt that Bobby Jones might be playing ahead of us. Food was very good and service staff were very very nice. We didn't see enough of the cart girl, however. Pace was okay at best. First round of 36, we had to wait for some sorry foursome who took at least five hours to play. They were five holes in front of us when we started. Not a ranger to be seen to kick them in the ass. There was some drainage problems on a few holes too. I would recommend going accross the interstate and playing PGA of Southern California over this course, but if you get a cheap rate here, it's worth it.

Played last week. Very accomodating starter got us out ahead of our tee time. Always enjoy playing here. Front nine was gorgeous condition. Starting on 10, all of the greens had scalloped edges where mowers had scalped the grass and it had been covered by fine sand. Possibly to expand green sizes in the future? If anyone can explain this to me please do. Outside of the aesthetics, these areas still putted fairly true. High winds added a few strokes to my back nine, not the greens. Going back tomorrow to see how things are coming in.

Worth the drive especially on a weekend. Fairways a bit funky but greens are hard and fast. A real test and played on a Saturday at 9:40 in 4 hours! Every once in a while it's worth the drive, bring your game.

It's amazing how much a lower index can change a course. I had played here a year ago w/ an +18 plus handicap and this course ate me alive. Plus, they were growing out the rough for a tournament of some kind, so that didn't help.
Now, I've got my index down to about 11, and had an excellent time at Oak Valley. This course has always been beautifully maintained, but it's certainly tough for a high-handicapper.
They were sending people off the back and I shot a 41 on that side, then had to leave to get to the office. So I can only speak for that half of the course. But, as I remember it being before, it was wonderfully maintained and very challenging. The greens were exceptionally fast, and they took me a few holes to get used to.
For $55, I'm not sure I've played a nicer course.

one of the best golf courses in SC. very fair, very tough, a real test.
short game a must, all differant types of shots needed to score.
conditions were good. greens held real well but were not as smooth as I 've seen them. Still putted better than most. Pins were in very tough location, maybe the same as they were for the PGA qualify event.

This is a super awesome track. It is challenging, well kept and the staff is very accomodating.
I return to this course again and again.
The hot dogs could use some help, but for the most part, it is a great deal and well laid out track.

Played the course on 11/12. Good challenging course! I was very impressed with the conditions of the course. Great fairways, a lot of soft sand (fell in them about 6 times), good conditioned tee boxes, immaculate greens, and great layout. They just rolled the greens so the greens played really fast. Its a good course to test your golf skill level. I score in 80's when I play the muni's. Once in a while I like to trully test my golf skill and find out how really good I am at championship courses like Oak Valley. I shot a 92 (still need some work). I used all of the clubs in my bag. The layout makes you think about ball placement. Place it right and you'll be rewarded with a good shot to the green. I will definitely play this course again but at the twilight rate. $75 prime fee felt to steep for me. The course, however, is worth of its high ranking in Southern California, as one of the best courses to play.

A long challenging track. Xcellent condition. Greens are great, moderately soft and tight. Putts roll nicely. Bunkers are soft and well taken care of. You can use every club in the bag. Even the long hitters have some work left.

Played Oak Valley twice on 11/4 and 11/5 after playing PGA SOCAL courses. While I can't say it is of the same calibur of the courses across the highway, it's still a great course. The short par 4's are made up by the difficult par 3's and some lengthy par 5's. The layout is great and causes the player to think through the course. The wind can be your great friends or worst enemy depending on the hole and which way its blowing. The only gripe I have is that the second day we played Oak Valley they had a tournament group that showed up with more people than they registered. The staff permitted the extra players to join which caused an hour delay due to all the carts being out on the course. As the carts came back in the staff did their best to get them back out. The only problem is that having already been through a full round, there wasn't enough juice left in them. We saw at least 3 abandoned carts. I'm sure this probably isn't a problem that occurs all the time at OVGC, but it sucks that it happened when we went out there. At least we got one full round in on Saturday. Will be back to play again.

Played on Oct 22. Really love this course. Too bad the greens are still very bumpy and hard to putt on a straight line. This is the best course to play right now with all of the aeration going on everwhere you go. Hopefully the greens will be in good shape soon.

Played on 10/20, all I can say is this is what a golf course should be. Great variety of holes, excellent conditions, greens, fairways, teeboxes, and traps. Though the SCPGA is also very good with 2 courses, this is the pick of the litter. Without a doubt this is the best course between Simi Valley (Lost Canyons) and La Quinta (take your pick). The greens are very tricky but when you hit 18 you will wish it was the first hole and not the last. Great, great golf experience.

Played Oak Valley on 9/24, not too bad considering just been aerated and overseeded. The fairways are almost like 1/2 inch rough, but it is still playable. I would say in about 7 to 10 days and after a good mowing, the course should be great.

Love this course, but the traps were so hard and had old, if any sand in them, they were unfair. The greens were great and the fairways, tee boxes and rough were above average for July.

p.s. How Oak Valley is not in the Top 10-15 courses in SoCal by Greenskeeper ratings is a joke; of the Top 10, I've played TPC Valencia and Lost Canyons-Sky, and neither compares to Oak Valley...not even close. Those layouts don't compare at all and neither has Oak Valley's atmosphere.

This is all you need to know about Oak Valley and the management here: we arrived to play in the a.m., but really wanted to eat breakfast and hit balls, but our we were scheduled to be on the tee shortly. We asked the starter if he could move our tee time back, and not only did he say "no problem," he essentially let us pick our tee time! The management here seems to appreciate their customers, which is something that is missing in the majority of courses all over SoCal. It's because of this easygoing service that keeps people coming back here. They load your bag from the front door without you having to ask, they don't overstack the tee times, the cart girl comes around often, the ice water is nice and cold, and the marshals are friendly and knowledgeable. What more can you ask for? As for the course, the greens are rolling good right now, and overall, the course is in very good condition. Thanks to Oak Valley ---

what a classic course. played wednesday called in for a noon tee time and the starter gave us the twilight rate tee time of $40 with cart and range balls. i think other course starters would have given me a reg. rate tee time. the course is in great shape except for some soft spots near the greens. we had the course all to ourselves did'nt see any golfers in front or back of us for a couple of hours. played 18 holes in 3 hours. the weather is still bearable. get out there before the heat reaches the triple digits

Played on 6/01 and found the course to be in excellent condition. The greens were smooth and receptive. The fairways were perfect and the rough was just that, rough. The day was perfect, the course was perfect, just wish my game would have been. This course is definitely one of the best around and has much more character then the two PGA courses on the opposite side of the freeway. Well worth the green fee and the drive.

Great course but greens needed to be rolled and cut. Little slow and bumpy. Otherwise course in good shape and each and every hole is memorable. Can see each green from the teebox. Straight forward golf and I would highly recommend it to anyone but check the green conditions before you go. Will definitely play it again when I am in the area.

Played 4/26. Simply is one of the best values in So California. I will drive hours to play this course. The housing that has sprung up around the course is disturbing, but it seems to be the norm anymore. Course was in excellent shape; although the greens were a little slow due to maintenance. This is an excellent layout that is challenging for golfers of all abilities. Staff was professional and starter had a great joke!

First time playing here the views are great. #3 plays shorter than it looks and today's pin placement was tough with the HUGE green. You have to be a straight hitter not that much room for miss hits. Hole #5 and #7 were ground in repair and one had a tractor by the fairway.

WOW! This is the first time I gave a perfect 10 to any course condition. Not just 1 ten but two, the fairways and rough, deserve such high marks. The course has matured very well. The last time I was here, however, there were no houses. Yes, maybe someday I'll live on a golf course as well. If there were a ranking system for the layout of a course this one would get another perfect 10. It is very fair, yet a challenge. It never fails; if you start after a tournament your round will take at least 5 hours. The guy in the pro shop did not handle our stalled cart very well today. A $10 off on next green free would have been nice. NO customer service here!

Played Sunday 3/20/2005. Oak Valley is a Wonderful course and the staff offer great customer service. As for the course, there are some (2) washed out areas due to the rains, but they did not come into play. A couple bunkers were full of water Unfortunately I found one of these, but .for the most part the course was dry and in great shape. It will probably take a week or so without rain to allow the bunkers & washed out areas to come back. But it is still worth playing. You may want to try a weekday round where the rates are less.

Teed off early the morning of Mar. 20. It is always enjoyable coming out here. The management does a terrific job - the course always is in good shape, the range is tops, and the grill serves quality dishes. Everyone is friendly and courteous as well. The course is in good shape right now, with the exception of one hole that has a little damage from the rain. It was 90 degrees all the way around the track with the exception of 1-2 holes. The greens rolled nicely, but were a little softer than normal. This is one of the best courses in SoCal - a solid, smart layout that requires everything in your bag.

FINALLY got around to playing this fine track. I must have driven by it 50 times in the past 5-years....played on Thursday, 3/3/05. Colder than a well-digger's arse out there that morning - but - the course is really a good, fair challenge of golf! Greens didn't hold very well - that would be my only complaint, as I tend to hit very high shots right at the flag - and I don't think I heled a single green with that type of approach all day. That cost me some strokes, to be sure....but - I'll know for next time. And there WILL be a next time!! No tricky stuff here--just straight up honest golf. Fairways were nice (two holes are still digging out from the rains - cart-path-only!) It's a soper course....worth the drive from anywhere!!

Played 02/23/2005: The Coures had rivers of water flowing down some fairways, but the course still played very well. The greens however, were a different story. The proshop said that the greens were putting between 12 & 13 on the stempmeter. Now keep in mind the Pros were putting on greens at LaCosta that were running 10-11. I don't mind putting on fast greens, but this is just too fast for the average golfer. OK for Q-School, but not if you want golfers to enjoy their round.

I played today in 20+ winds, course is a challenge without! everything in good shape, fairways a little thin- winter season and all. Greens would not hold a thing, a high sand wedge from 110 would hit the front and run to the back-or off!! Butt they putted smooth and fast, everything should be fabulous as always by spring ya gotta love this place!

Played Oak Valley this past weekend primarily due to the excellent GK reviews/ratings. The trip from Orange county was worth it: the course was in great shape, the people were nice and the layout was challenging. When I mentioned our handicaps, the proshop recommended we play the white tees (slope of 131) ... and I am glad we did.

This is definitely a shotmakers course combined with challenging greens.

Played on Thursday 11/11 at 7am. The course was in very good shape, but I wouldn't call it immaculate. The term immaculate should be useds when talking about "perfect" conditions. Don't get me wrong, the course was beautifully manicured, but it wasn't like Augusta or anything. I think the Champions and Legends across the freeway are in better shape than Oak Valley, personally. The course did not look like it was set up for PGA Qschool. The rough was short and the greens weren't very firm; nor were the fairways, which is odd because usually Tour events like firm fairsways in their setup. Either way, the course was in nice shape and played well, but not tough. I didn't have a particularly good ball striking day and shot 74 from the tips. I think the most challenging part about this course are the greens. Their subtle slopes and breaks are very deceiving. I give props to the greenskeeping crew at Oak Valley - keep up the good work.

WOW!!!! Absolutely one of the best I have ever played. The overseeding has come in and the course is in pristine condition. The layout is tremendous. The only thing I would like to see is some tees between the blues and whites. From the white tees it is only 6300 yards. A little short for my liking. Then the next set of tees are the blues at 7000 plus. Thankfully the blues were playing a little short around 6800. It was a tough test. From the tips it would be very difficult. Overall, this course is a 10!

Played today at 11:00 am. Didn't have a tee time, just walked into the pro shop, said can you get me out? They said you're on the tee. I said SWEET! Nobody was out here, so I played by myself hitting 2 or 3 balls every hole. Finished in 3.5 hours. The course is still a week or two away from being absolutely perfect and is still recovering from being closed for a while for aeration/overseeding. The greens are very nice, but the fairways are a little long, and the rough is pretty long as well. Once they mow the fairways down tight, this place will be superb and lush. I can't believe this place doesn't get more play. Maybe cuz it's so far for most SoCaler's, but this track is the real deal. This course will again hold second stage qualifying for Q-School next month, with the final stages being held at PGA West. After my round, I went across the street and played SCPGA Legends. Hard to find better golf than Oak Valley and the 2 SCPGA courses.

Greens were held very well and putted slow. Fairways in very good condition; no bad lies. Cart path only due to upcoming PGA or Sr. PGA qualifying event. This was my first time on this course. This is one beautiful course - easy in the eyes and very well worth the green fee. I'll definitely be back.

Played morning of 8/8. No question, a terrific course and deserving of being in everyone's rotation. The whole course lays out right in front of you; no blind tee shots or tricks. It's a very solid layout; creative, subtle and strategic. There wasn't much wind in the morning, but the course was a little wet...including the bunkers. The greens rolled true - but not super quick like at PGA Oak Valley - but they were very receptive. The greens here tend to be on the small side, so you have to be precise with your approaches. They do all the little things right here - from the moment you park your car there's someone ready for your bags, plenty of friendly marshals, and a solid grill that serves a great breakfast. This is a course that every avid golfer should play. Thanks to the staff there - you do a great job.

Played here on Friday, first twilight group at 1:00... got us out 10 minutes early and never saw another group the entire round. Great golf course, good mix of tough and easier holes. Course was a little muddy in spots for some reason but overally in good shape. Seem to remember the greens being a little faster and more true but they were definitely not in bad shape. Bunkers were a little crusty but still one of the best deals around!!

I hadn't played here for a few years, and it's every bit as good as I remember! The course is in great condition, friendly staff, and not crowded! One of the nicer tracks around!

Course is in great condition. Played Saturday 7/10 and finished in 4 hours. Pace was great. Greens were in great condition. Only drawback is distance from OC, but then again, that's why it's the $$ and not $$$$ like other decent OC courses.

I ENJOYED THE COURSE IMMENSLY. I HAVE PLAYED SEVERAL COURSES IN THE COACHELLA VALLEY THAT COST TWICE AS MUCH AS THIS ONE, BUT NONE OF THEM WERE IN BETTER CONDITION.

What a pleasure to play. Great mix of holes, very few tricks. Nice condition. I couldn't believe the price and the brisk pace of play. One of the nicest daily-fee experiences I have had, and maybe the best value anywhere.

Summer is so good in SOCAL. Went out at 4:45 yesterday and finished 18 with plenty of time to spare. Then to top it off, the fees have been reduced for the summer and we only payed 28 bucks. Now granted, a lot of courses discount during the hot weather but Oak Valley is in such great shape it is unbelievable. There is no better course for the money in southern California!

Played over the weekend. Oak Valley golf club met my expectations and then some. Thank you harky for putting tip. You were right, the greens don’t break as much as they appear. I showed up a single and got right out. Staff was very accommodating and golf course was phenomenal.

I saw this was rated #1 on Greenskeeper.org, so I decided to trek out there and check it out. Good as advertised! Greens are amazing - like carpet. Play from the blue tees for handicaps 10 or less. It's a great challenge, especially with the wind.

What a terrific golf course, you can't find a problem with the course anywhere as conditions are near perfect! You can find many problems with your game, as this course will test all aspects of it!! Played for $40 bucks on Tee times 24/7 certificate for a morning tee time, although certificate you receive states twilight only, they do honor it for A.M. tee times as they miscommunicated some where! Course has much more shot value and depth than those across freeway!!!

Without a doubt, one of the best golf courses in Southern California in terms of quality and affordability. I went up as a single after a one and a half hour drive from Northridge and got on the course immediately on a Saturday morning. This golf course is fantastic, I can go on and on with how good the course is. Very playable for all levels as they have different sets of tees.

What a gem of a golf course...True diamond in the rough, much fairer test and more player friendly than the two SCPGA courses across the freeway...Only complaints are the inconsistent sand quality of some of the bunkers and the lack of a beverage cart. Played in under 4 hours on a Friday afternoon as a twosome, never saw anyone in front of us which was really
cool...Teed off around 1:30pm and finished by 5:30pm...Had a great time. Greens are fast and firm yet held approach shots well unlike the SCPGA courses...Keep your tee shots in the fairways or first cut and you'll score well here. Play the white tees if you're not single digit...This is as good as it gets!!!

Played on Memorial Day. Took us only 3:45 to finished as a twosome. The conditions were superb. It was such an enjoyable experience since this is my first time here. The drive was a bit too far. Now I know why this course has received such high ratings. You feel like you are somewhere else besides the dessert of CA. Only a few holes were nearby street. Woulod definitely make out there again.

Played on 5/19, course was in excellent condition and the weather was perfect, just a very slight breeze. This course has much more character than those across the way (SCPGA) and the conditioning is equal if not a bit better. The course needs to have better specials promoting lower green fees so it will be able to attract some business away from the SCPGA. The greens here are some of the most undulating in the Inland Empire and will add most extra strokes to your average score. A great course and excellent customer service. Try it next time instead of the SCPGA and see if you are not surprised by the layout and conditions.

Found myself compensating for a wind-aided fade throughout the round, but was rewarded with longer-than-normal drives too. The greens will test your patience, and I advise making use of the course's putting green located near the first tee. This is a great course worth investigating.

Stay in the fairway, the rough is deep and thick. Well worth the green's fee, especially if you play during the week. Well maintained and beautiful course.

Great layout, you can see everything in front of you. No blind shots. Must play several times to become familiar with greens. This is a true test of golf. No wind when we played, lucky I guess.

I absolutely loved this course! Wow what a challenge. I am a 19 handicap, and scored +5 on 10 holes (incl. a birdie) and +22 on the other 8 holes. (Those ob's will kill you!) Will definitely test your skills. Rough is penalizing, fairways and greens are in great shape, so hit the ball straight. Watch out for the greens. Many are large, but for a reason. The undulations are downright tricky. Great test. Will be back for sure. Played on a Sat. for $45 w/cart, twilite rate, and finished with plenty of time. Amazing, people here actually fix their divots on the greens. Thank you Oak Valley.

Great Course. Worth the drive and money. I don't think the temperature got above 40 degrees all day, but the course was in great shape for this time of year. People were GREAT! Have played Oak Valley 3 times at different times of the year and everytime the course was in great shape. Will play again!

choppo talks like a "big man", but he IS that deep, it makes me sick...But like they say "Drive for show, putt for dough". Oak Valley is a great test we played on 12/17 in the wind and came back the next week on Monday 12/23...no wind...until we got on the 1st tee and then it blew all day AGAIN!!! No mercy from the elements when you play here in the winter, I guess.
The course is hard enough from the tips...add a 25 mph wind that comes from two or three directions at the same time and fogettaboutit.

Have been meaning to play Oak Valley for a while. Last time we were this neck of the woods, played across the street.
There have been some changes in this course over the years. First played when there was not a home on the site. Back then they would leave a stack of balls on the range, ready to go, hit as many as you want, without charge. But the times they are a changing.

This was not a day for scoring. We got there early, around 8:00 and they said that the course would not open until 9:00 because of frost. That was ok, we didn't have a tee time.

The wind was howling. About a 3 club wind. It was blowing so hard that a ball at rest on the green would sometimes move. Also, my hat kept blowing off. On the positive side, we played unmolested. After we holed out, I worked on my chipping on a few holes, like I had no cares in the world.

When the wind was at our back you could absolutely rip your tee shot. On 17, around 411 from the blues, I must have hit it 375. A baby lob wedge in to the green and presto, birdieeeee. On 18, I hit one pretting good, had 175 in. Took 8 iron. Miss hit it, but it still found the green. Missed the put. (As a side note, to you gramps that play across the street, Yes I am deep off the tee. Pro deep if not further. However, I only have an average chipping game and average to below average in putting, that is why I am not on the tour)

On the other hand on #11 some 185, I absolutely ripped a 3 iron to get on the green. Normally would be about a 6 iron for me. This was like the U.S. open at Pebbel, only the ruff was not so punishing.

This is a must play course, if you call yourself a player. Will play again next week. The wind canceled out the round. Had a great time and will go back to see how my game holds up on this course, when the weather is not so foul.

Played there 10/10. Yes they are getting it ready for the PGA Tour Qualifying School. It is playing tough. The rough is saying, don't come in here, you won't get out. I had forgotten how great this course is. It had been about 4 years since I last had played here. Definitely will go back soon. A real golfers course. Excellent sight lines and need your game to score well.

Whew!!!! What a course. Great challenge. Wonderful greens and fairways. Very, very difficult if your not straight off the tee. Greens and pin placements just as challenging. Many greens are undulating and will kick you in the rear if you stiff it on the wrong side of the green. Staff was professional and friendly. Starter is always on. Pace of play was exceptional. Good experience there, will definitely be back....

Played the coarse, tuff! Great shaper, howeveer, the rough was as thick and long as anywhere I have ever seen. If you make a mistake this coarse will smack you in the back of the head. Just gotta laugh after a while.

Great condition. Very hard track if you don't keep it straight. Many tee boxes were not level or had depressions. Great marshalls. Played early Sat. AM. 4 hour round and it felt slow. Tricky greens... quirky breaks where it looked like no break and some were straight as could be when it looked like a two foot break. Worth the drive from OC.

Played after 1 PM on Sunday $45. Good deal. The greens are in excellent condition but very fast and difficult. The rough is 3-5 inches deep and tenacious. Middle tee scorecard yardage is incorrect for holes 11 and 14. A great afternoon ----especially if you have a sense of humour!

This is a top-notch corse! I played it a week after the 2nd stage of Q-school, and it was one of the most difficult conditions I've every played. The rough was overseeded and extremely thick (not necessarily tall) and the greens were an easy 12 on the stimpmeter. It was lightening fast. Overall, it's a very demanding course and always well-maintained.

Played about 2 months ago. Awesome course. They hold the 2nd stage of PGA Tour school. White tees are like blue anywhere else. Blue tees play at 7000+ yards. Nice greens. Worth 79 bucks weekend w/cart.
