Started playing again after 5-1/2yr break. So I decided to try out Whispering Lakes since they offer wide fairways etc.
The last time I had played here was about 6yrs ago. Today the course is in good shape.
Greens are roll8ng nicely, fairways are green and lush, minus some holes throughout. Other than that, the course is great for anyone wanting to pick up the game.

I have to admit this is not the most exciting golf course you'll ever play, but the price is right, conditions right now are very good, in fact as good as I can remember for this place, and the staff is always friendly and accommodating.

There is a certain comfort about playing old style traditional golf courses. Certainly nothing fancy, just plain straight forward golf. With greens being the best part of the course and fairways in pretty good shape as well, hard to complain. Just don't set your expectations too high when playing here. I only found one bunker and it was OK, thin, but OK.

Plus it's nice to finish a round of golf quickly and feel that you received value for the $$ paid.

Played W.Lake's today. Went on as a Single and it was a great day for golf. Greens are looking very good. Inconsistency on the greens. Slow ones, fast ones made my putting a difficult challenge. Fairways somewhat decent, still lumpy and bumpy which made some of the lies terrible.Tee boxes were uneven and inconsistent as well. Listen, for $28 bucks including cart that was a bargain. I see a lot of Gkers don't play this course. Last review was on Oct 17 2017 by Weber. This course can be long and challenging played from the Blues. There it is guy's..."know before you go"

I actually had a 6:52 tee time at Oak Quarry, but by the time we pulled into the parking lot at 5:50, the winds were howling! The conditions were unplayable! I asked in the pro shop if they would allow me to cancel and was told because of the winds, it would be OK.

On the drive home traffic being very heavy, as we neared Whispering Lakes, the winds seemed better, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Pulled into the lot and there were zero golfers, so I thought the course might be closed, but the starter said he also was surprised nobody was there. So we paid our $16 and walked to the first tee right at 6:00.

I had asked if the greens had been punched and was told NO, but as it turns out they in fact had been recently punched. To say they were slow would be under-describing them. Probably about 4-5. The fairways were poor at best. Lots of bare spots, gopher holes, grass needed cutting, etc. The best part of the course were the greenside bunkers, which had plenty of manicured sand.

We finished walking in just under 2 1/2 hours, so pace not a problem. Also, the winds picked up on the back side, but playing here in 20mph winds is not the same as playing Oak Quarry. All in all, made the best of an otherwise bad situation.

Hey there fellow golfers. I played Whispering Lakes today. Well, what can I say? The guy in the pro shop, not so good. The course layout, not so good. The greens, fairways, tee boxes and bunkers, not so good. Freeway noise, not so good. The carts, pretty good.

It had been almost four years since I last played here. I guess, because my expectations weren't very high, I was pleasantly surprised at the overall condition, particularly the greens. They were reasonably quick, rolled true, and very receptive to well struck shots. I was in several greenside bunkers, and in every instance the sand was great. (Although the dark color was a bit strange?) Some of the areas in the rough needed attention, and a few tee boxes were not so great. However for $16, how can you complain? My only complaint was I was not told that the men's club started at 8:00am shotgun on #12, so as we are walking to 16, here comes the hords of people. We (twosome) had teed off at 6:00am and reached the 15 green by 8:00am. Seeing the people we hurried to #16 and played the hole. When we walked over to #17, there were 3 groups waiting to hit. I thought, what the heck, suck it up and just play behind them for the final two holes. Then some jerk walks over from #16 and tells us we can't play because we're in the middle of the med's club group. Told him the pro shop never warned us, but assured him we would not hold anyone up. Instead he proceeds to tee up his ball on #17 and said we would need to allow all the men's club to pass before we played further. (They were three groups deep all the way back to #12) Well that was not going to happen, so after an exchange of words, we just played #17 - 18 and finished. (Never held up the group behind despite having to wait for the groups in front of us) I mean come on, if we were able to play 15 holes walking in 2 hours, why would he think we would slow him down? So other than this minor confrontation, it was beautiful fall morning, albeit a bit cold in the morning (47 degrees at tee off)

Planned on playing 18 before the Goose Creek GK Plays on 8/31 but... well, read on to find out why that didn't happen.

Rolled up a little before 7am to get my round started. Open the door and was greeted by the lovely odor of the central IE. Payed in the pro-shop/trailer and got my round underway a couple minutes later. Everything was still damp early in the morning and the mowers actually were behind me on a couple holes. Overall, the fairways were in pretty good shape. Solid grass coverage, but a number of ground squirrel holes in spots. Rough was... ehhh. Spotty around the fairways and better around the greens. Bunkers were better than I expected (not that they were excellent, just not bad for a muni). The greens were maddening. They had been cut that morning, but were very soft and bumpy. If greens were ever made out of gummy bears it would probably look like this.

And now for the kicker, I went out as a single just after 7 as I said before, with no one on hole 1 in front. I caught a 4-some on #2 which is fine as long as everyone is moving. Well... nope. Front nine POP was 2.5 hours and there were at least 3 4-somes in front of me that early. Awful POP for that early in the morning on a Monday. The group in front of me wasted lots of time just loitering around and not getting ready to hit shots. I left after 9 once I saw a single join the group in front of me on 10 to make it a 5-some. I hope everyone enjoyed their 5+ hour round.

Find somewhere else. The El Prado courses are likely in better shape and definitely more empty. My only regret is that I have to return at some point so I can play all 18 to check it off the list. Uggghhhh...

7/3/15 9:05 am tee-off Finished in 4.5 hours. Took a few days off for July 4th weekend but plans got screwed up so had nothing to do on 7/3. I figured I'd just play golf. Last minute decision and since my driver's license still says Ontario on it, I figured I'd take advantage of the resident rate. Plus they didn't charge holiday rate while many courses did. I have not been to many but this is the flattest course I have been to. If I knew ahead of time, I would opted to walk as the course I usually play isn't walk-friendly. I joined a three walkers. It helped having a cart in the group as it made searching for balls much faster. I was surprised by this course. For the price you pay, the conditions were very decent. Fairways didn't have too many brown spots. I got the impression that they concentrate their maintenance efforts on the fairways and greens. Fairways and greens were in better condition than I have seen at courses that charge $80+ on the weekend. Fairways are very wide on most holes. If your game is off and you need a confidence booster, I think this course might be the place to play. As khill57 mentioned, the cart ride is very bumpy. My clubs probably got as many scratches this day as it did the past year. If you have back issues, do not ride this course because it is brutal. I tried to stay on the cart path as much as possible but that really isn't much. I don't know anything about golf course management so I'm not sure if this is a weekly, monthly, or yearly thing but this day, they had used too much fungicides (or at least that's what I think it is) on the greens. The blue stain on the bottom of my shoes are still there. ** EDIT: I've read other reviews on this course. Please note that the positives I've said about this course is in relation to the fees they charge. **
