Not too much has changed since my review last week. Except that I got out this morning in less than 20 minutes there was only one single ahead of me on the wait list (probably b/c the chargers had the AM game and maybe people thought it would rain). Surprisingly you couldn't tell it rained the night before the course soaked up the water very well. The tee box on #13 is open but its pretty sandy, needs some time to fully grow in. Also I found some of those new bunkers and they have some good quality sand. We also finished in about 4 hrs which is a gift here. Good day, sun came out and it wasn't too hot and very little wind.

Also I forgot that hole # 13 (long U shaped par 5) they have temporary tees moved up to the start of the fairway, that was a bit of a let down too.

Was the 3rd group out after two AM tournaments, needless to say it was a slow day. They have moved/added to some of the bunkers so this was the first time I have played it since. The sand seems to be of a different quality now too, a lot softer. What was deceiving was I thought the putting green was a lot slower than the actual greens. I actually 3 putted a couple of the first holes in trying to adjust to the speed. Fairways were decent and there really is no rough here. The only compliant is the pace of play but again that was due to two tourneys this morning. Accept that fact and that the round is only $25 and i thought it was a decent day.

Played 8-2-08 at 6:30 am. Course is in good shape, greens were terrific, very smooth with good speed. Fairways for the most part were in good shape. Pace of play was also good, 4 hours 15 mins. which is unusual for here but I guess the early morning round helped. $25 to walk is simply the best deal in so-cal, period. Great layout, especially the back 9.

I played a couple of holes on Wednesday evening and just wanted to post that there is some work being done on the course and the first hole is only playing 220 yds and driving in there seems to be work done on some of the bunkers on 6 as well. Greens were a little bumpy as well.

Got off about 2:20 pm after putting in my name (waited a little less than 2 hrs to get off). The front 9 took 3 hrs to play and the pace picked up on the back so we finished about 7:45 pm. There was a tournament from 7-12 in the morning. There were some groups ahead of us that could have picked up the pace a little so the marshal could have done a better job on getting these people moving. The greens are still fairly bumpy, i think if they were rolled this would solve a lot of the problems because they seem to have grown in from the aerification. I think the best part of the course was the fairways and traps were in good shape as well. There was no penalty for being in the rough but hey this is still a great value and would look forward to coming back again.

Like jparis said its hard to get a teetime here. My GOOD friend woke up at 5 in the morning & put us on the waiting list. We teed off at 6:45 & finished at 10:30. Greens are still healing from the recent aerification (slow & bumpy) but playable. Course is in good shape otherwise.

I play this course much less than I would like, it is just so hard to get a tee time. The only time I do play I go down early in the morning and get on the waitlist as a single...usually get out within and hour or two. I really like this course, it is beautiful, fun and inexpensive. Just hard to get out, especially on the weekends.

The course was in typical form: good greens, good bunkers, nice fairways, spotty rough, some beat-up tee boxes, excellent scenery, and a 5.5-hour round.

Got off a little before 2 pm and I got the front nine in and replayed the first through the third holes a couple of times for a total of 15 holes. There were many divots in the fairway and tee boxes. The greens were very bumpy and the sand traps seemed a bit thin. The course seemed like it had been through a full summer of golf. The starter was cool and for a price of $25 it is a good deal and probably the best bargain in SD. I've just seen the course in better shape.

Able to walk as a single with no problem (probably b/c of the Buick and rain). The front nine there wasn't a cloud in the sky and then the clouds came and so did a little rain. The wind was blowing all day and this was probably the biggest element we battled today. It was anywhere between 2 to 4 club wind. The greens were soft from the rain the night before and there were some wet spots in the course but for the most part the course drained very well. The rough wasn't that thick but then again I don't think it ever is here but for $25 I'm not complaining. We finished in 4 3/4 hrs.

Played 10/23 @ 7:30. No one on the course do to the FIRES. Front nine was being punch. Temp greens on all nine holes. Back nine greens were good & pure but that won't last for long. Nice, fast round although it was a bit smokey.

I put my name in as a single at 7:30 and didn't get out until 12:15, there was a tournament from 10:00-11:45 but I was only the 4th or 5th single on the waiting list. Considering all the courses in the area that are doing maintenance Coronado has completed all of its maintenance. Had trouble putting here for some reason, just couldn't get a feel for the greens. Some greens seemed to be firm and others soft. Everything seem to be in good shape, I don't have any complaints about any of the fairways, sand, etc. The worst part of the round is that it took 5:45 to complete, that's not a misprint. Overall for $25 for a round this is probably the best value in the area.

Looks like andersongebel - San Diego and I played the same course. His review agrees with mine with some exceptions. I played at 10:45 AM in a tournament. Weather was perfect, overcast and cool. Ball was getting better roll by then. Greens were still a bit slow, bunkers were damp but playable, some of them had steep faces guarding the greens. Some of the rough wa squirrely. patches of grass mixed with dirt areas, other spots were 1-3 inches, thick and hard to get out of if you did not have a good lie. Always a good course to play.

Played 6/2 @ 7:00am. Course is in pretty good shape. Greens were on the slow side. I don't know why they didn't cut them? Anywho, the course is playing soft (barely any roll). Just got new irons & I hit'em like s@#t. Anywho, Coronado is a fun course. Best Muni in S.D. in my opinion.

The greens were a bit slow, but in above-average condition overall. The fairways were mostly lush. The traps were in above-average condition. And the tee boxes had their usual well-worn appearance (especially on the par 3s). Overall, Coronado is a great value.

Played on April 1, 2007. Played a little after noon. Payed the $38 for advance tee time for 4, so the total with cart came out to $40. This is the course I think of when playing in southern california on the water. Torrey is on the hill, but Coronado is right on the water. In fact it might be on a pennisula because it seemed like there was water all around us. Playing on the bay right next to guys fishing and boats/yachts pasing by. Great!!! The course is a muni, so don't get your hopes up to high, but for a muni its one of the best I have played. It isn't too long, and you can definitly score here. There is this trick horseshoe hole on the back 9 par 5 that you can't get to in 2, but it is interesting. The greens were pretty good, and fairways as well. The rough was a little thin in some spots, but hey...its a muni. Overall this course is a must play if you travel to SD for a golf trip like I did. Its cheap, on the bay and not too difficult. Great course.

Pretty much one of the only courses in S.D. that isn't punched right now. Greens are good like usual. Fairways are decent. Pace of play is fast if you don't mind getting up super early. Teed it up @ 6:45 & we finished a bit before 11:00. Can't beat the price nor the views. I highly recommend the course to anyone!

Greens are good. Tee Boxes-some are a little beat up Fairways-a little thin in spots probably due to the unusually cold weather in January & February. Bunkers- looked OK but I missed them all yesterday so can’t say for sure. Still the best deal in golf in San Diego, maybe the entire state. They are working on the pace of play, but still remains the only drawback.

Golf. On an island. How much better can it get? Gorgeous views of San Diego Bay, at a price anyone can afford, makes this course a gem in my book. While the toughest element of the game you'll need to negotiate may be the breeze off of the water, you'll be delighted with Coronado's generous fairways and fairly flat greens. The first tee provides a "gallery-like" atmosphere as this course gets much play, but fortunately the first fairway is wide enough to entertain any player's "jitter" affected drive. You can't beat this outing for the price on a well maintained tract of island real-estate, so even if you can't afford a yacht, you can spend the day dreaming what it might be like to be parked in the marina aside the first few holes of the back nine, while enjoying a round of your "other" guilty pleasure. Another "must play" in the San Diego area.

I had the priveledge of playing yesterday on the corporate nickel. The greens are absolutly in amazing shape, quite possibly the best winter conditions in all of SoCal. Every green had little to no ball divot damage. The sand traps were fluffy and the tee boxes were abused but the fairways were in OK shape. The views are first rate. This course is a must play.

Spent the week between Christmas and New Years in SD and played this course on 3 days. Still one of the best bargains around with really good greens and VERY reasonable rates. Easy to walk with very scenic views of the San Dieco Bay from the course.

Play could have been a little faster but for the price it's a definite bargain. Subtle breaks on the green deserve a little more attention than a casual look. All in all, a fun layout.

Oh my, what a course. The weather was great. Lots of cool vistas. Course is in excellent shape. Fairways are tight. The sand is a little course. Lots of trees. The rough is thick and wet. There is wind in the afternoon. Use it. Fairway markers are different. 125 yds, 75 yds. Was in a tournment so I can't comment on the price or the help. Although, The golf shop guy was a jerk. Otherwise, A GREAT DAY.

Best value in San Diego, where else are you going to pay $25 for a round. Seems to be drying up there because of the unusually hot summer we have had but it still seems to be in good condition. Surprisingly the pace of play was about 4 1/2 hours which is unheard of for Coronado especially since this occurred on a weekend.

Although the pace of play is always slow, and getting a tee time is difficult, the views are nice and the value is almost unmatched (at least in San Diego). The conditions yesterday were as they usually are: the greens are soft, relatively smooth, and on the slow side. The fairways and bunkers are in good shape.

Back in the Clinton years, Bill paid a solo visit to Mrs. Shelia Davis Lawrence the recent widow of Larry Lawrence, the owner of the Hotel Del Coronado. Sheila rebuffed Bill's approaches so he decided to play a round at the Coronado Golf Course. Secret Service men surrounding the course clandestinely kicked Bill's balls, improving his lies, whenever he hit an errant shot, and anything within five feet of the hole were tallied as gimmees. Afterwards, Clinton proudly announced to the national press crew in attendance that he had shot a 79! "The first time that I ever broke 80!"

Reminiscent of another quote he made a few years later, "I did not have sex with that lady!"

Like I always say to any score doctor, "It's between you and God."

the greens are very nice considering how many players get out here. the course permits 5-somes and takes tee times until about 6:00. On Wednesday, for example, the group ahead of us, and two groups behind is were 5-somes. And, every available time was booked solid from sun-up until 5:53. After that, the folks on the waiting list get on the course knowing that they have almost no chance of even finishing 9 holes. I don't know any course that is busier. But, despite all this play, the greens look terrific.

Played on 5/20/. Tee boxes showing remarkable comeback. Greens still bumpy after pluging. Fairways have never looked better to me in the 15 yr. I've played there. In about 2 weeks this course should be great. If they could ever figure out how to pick up the pace of play this place would be perfect. Good layout, EZ to walk, inexpensive, great views, but it is busy and sometimes plays a little too slow.

There is a problem with par three back up on first nine holes

I play here often and usually find it in better condition. #14 shorten to a temporary par 3 ( 200yds today) due to construction of new restrooms. Even so many teeboxes were thin and well used. The greens are scheduled for top dressing later this month the exact date is on their website. Neverthe less I paid only $25.00 for a good course with great bay views. Can't beat it.

Coronado has riased their green fees from $20 to $25, but it still remains one of the best values anywhere. The course conditions are excellent for a municipal course that gets non-stop play. The greens were in great shape and the fairways were generally very lush. Some of the tee boxes (particularly on the par 3s) had problems (lots of divots--a bit uneven), but overall, this is a fun course with great views.

Another perfect day at Coronado. The fairways are lush--no brown spots, no dead spots, very litte soggy areas. Greens are soft and roll smoothly. Sand traps are above-average. The bay views are stunning. The only problem is the pace of play. But, for $10, it's hard to complain...

The more I play this course, the more I like it. We played on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. The course is in great shape. The greens are better than I last remembered them and the pace of play was surprisingly quick. Most of the time there was no one behind us, and we rarely had to wait on the tee box for the group ahead of us. Unfortunatley, that's NOT typical (especially for the first 5 holes which feature two short par 5s and a par 3, the combination of which seems to really slow things down at times).

If you can get on (that's the tricky part), there's simply no better value for your money, especially when you consider the bay views. What other golf course that has the Ocean as a water hazard (on at least 3 holes), can you play for $20 ($10 for twlight golf)?

My first time playing here, and it's easy to see why people fall in love with this course. With all the palm trees, cool breezes, yachts, and pretty-people jogging nearby, this course epitomizes a dreamy Southern California. In fact, all the hubbub of the city of Coronado around the course can be almost too distracting. Good thing, because in my 18 years of playing golf, I don't think I've ever played a slower round. But it was so beautiful out there, I didn't really care.

The greens were really nice, only getting a little bumpy late in the day. Someone should get a medal for keeping these greens as nice as they are with all the use they get. And it's good to see that the players on this course do their share to repair their ball marks for the most part. Some of the greenside bunkers have some tough lips to carry over. It looked like many of the tee boxes had been aerated within the last week or so. The course has a nice layout, wide open going out but narrowing a bit on the back side. Agree with prior comment from arguswilson about players slowing down the course trying to reach the par fives in two. I'm surprised there aren't more and higher fences up to protect golfers on the tee boxes from errant shots. But then, fences would detract from the beauty of the course.

Coronado is in fine shape--especially considering the non-stop play at this affordable course.

For $20 (on a Saturday) there's no course in Southern California that can compare, especially when you consider the bay views & gentle ocean breeze.

The fairways were consistently green and lush--unlike many courses in the area (e.g., Auld, Cottonwood, Steele Canyon).

The greens were in decent shape--although they were a little slower than usual.

The pace of play can be slow at times, but we finished in just over 5 hours, which isn't bad for a weekend. Part of the problem is that some of the par 5's are reachable in 2. So, everyone tends to wait to hit their second shot until the group ahead has cleared the green. Then, almost without fail, none of the second shots even come close to the green, meaning that there are still 1-3 more shots until the group is actually putting. However, there was a course Marshall who kept things moving along as quickly as could reasonably be expected.

you can't beat this one for the price (if you're a resident). The fairways are in good shape, and not too easy to stay on... thus, it makes for important course management unless you drive straight every time. Lots of fun!

I applaud the city of San Diego for keeping at least one course in this world from overpricing us golfers. You can't beat the $20 weekend fee!! If you can manage to get out on this very very crowded golf course you will not be disappointed. The nice fairways, greens, tee boxes, and the beautiful scenery made me almost forget about my bad score today.

Didn't know women's club was playing that morning. Had to wait 2.5hrs to get on. Well worth the wait for a super nice course with cheap fees.

It's 20 bucks. So it's cheap. Otherwise, the course is very flat and mostly dull. I thought I was playing golf in a city park. Some nice scenery on a few holes. The greens were in good shape and the fairways were not. For 20 bucks, it's still not a bad deal, if you can manage to get on.

Coronado golf course is the best deal in town…unfortunately everyone else knows that.
The standbye list was brutal today because of a morning tourney. Thankfully they were able to squeeze me out. I’m happy they did because golf course was in excellent condition considering all the play it gets. Pretty fun track with wonderful views of the bay. Some reachable par 5’s and short par 3’s to find get some birds. Great golf course.

Played this weekend in the PLGA Coronado Classic, the course was in great shape with the greens alittle bumpy from the aertion last month.
This is a great municiple course with great views and for 20.00 (walking) you can't go wrong, if you can get a tee time. If your are in the area and a single or a two-some try the stand-by list.

This course is as well maintained as they come, especially when you consider the green fee. It is a fun course perfect for the average player, maybe a little short for big hitters but I wouldn't know about that. The greens are some of the best I've played on, always consistent from hole to hole and roll true. The only problem is getting a tee time or getting on from the waiting list. Frequent tournaments and events as a single wait can be 2 plus hours. Still one of my favorites.

This is a great, fun course. Plays right along the bay, and has the best view in town. Tough to get a tee time, but it is the best value for a municiple course other than Torrey Pines in the area. Greens as in good shape for the amount of play that this course recieves, and fairways are well maintained. How could you not enjoy a day of golf in such a great location. Must play if you can.
