I love playing here. It's right up there with Barona as one of my favorite courses in SD. The staff is always professional and the course is always in tip-top shape. It's really what you expect when you pay the price for this course but fortunately I was able to score a rate of $79 today which made it a no-brainer. The previous reviews all said it- it's summer so theres a little brown in places and they are seeding a couple tee boxes. Otherwise it's fantastic. The greens are quick and true and the fairways are smooth as carpet.

I played 36 over the weekend with an Underpar voucher and agree with the previous reviewers' sentiments; the course was in great condition. It's always such a treat to play here. The layout is challenging yet fun. I don't have anything but glowing words for this course and its staff. Speaking of the staff, they were amazing.....every single one of them! They were all so accommodating and friendly and I thank them for that.
I wanted to share some of my experiences with the food on this occasion. We called in our orders while on the 9th tee during the first 18 and the food was ready after we finished the hole. We got breakfast burritos and they were very good. We also went into the clubhouse during a timeout between rounds and were treated with an assorted meat plate which was awesome!
If you want a top level golf experience, Maderas is the club for you.

First time I ever played this Beautiful and Intriguing course was in Dec 2011, with several military co-workers (golfers). I've always said I would welcome the opportunity to go back again when course was not in winter brown out conditions and affordability presented itself. I'm certainly glad that patience/perseverance plus an Underpar.com Deal and Exceptionally accommodating GM-Bill @ Maderas = Opportunity Knocked! And what could ever make it any better..the company and golf prowess of 7 additional GKers. We coordinated our GKer Meet-n-Play for Saturday, 8/9/2014 @ 8:00 and 8:13 first 18 tee times. As was with my first experience at Maderas, this day's event did not disappoint either. From the Welcoming Greetings upon arrival, loading of our bags to carts, Pro Shop check-in, friendly/informative Starter, ever present courteous Marshals monitoring pace of play, to the super friendly cart lady who made frequent rounds.
- Service is "Top Notch". It is very easy to see why this course is ranked so highly. Even during current drought restrictions, Maderas maintenance crews have done a remarkable job to keep the fairways in nearly perfect condition (only saw one area marked GUR), and one or two fairways showing slight brown out. Fairways typically challenged you with left to right/right to left slopes you must factor into your shot and rolled out considerably fast. (Provided you avoided the PUNISHING thick 3" Rough) .
Tee Boxes were lush, level, with minimal divot damage, and Very Lady friendly (18th hole in particular) (Cpennbo and I played from the Reds; while Tobster shot from the Green tees. Nice to have a couple options from the forward tees.)
Bunkers had no shortage of ample soft sand which aided in easy up n outs.
Starter advised of entry and exit markers to the fairways, instructing to remain in the fairways off the rough, and exit between markers.
Greens were Pristine. Fairly large with subtle undulations; however, rolled fast and true. Soft and receptive. Experienced minimal ball marks, (mainly due to following behind GKers who I did see fixing several ball marks per green). Scenery was spectacular. Winds can play a factor, and typically kick up mid-day. Upon completion of our first round; cart staff were at the ready to move our bags around as needed;
offering up nice cold lavender scented face towels...NICE, in addition to their homemade Lemonade.
Practice facility: I would like to see them bring back those nice white pyramids of golf balls. Currently you receive a small pouch of golf balls (2) bags per cart, to warm-up with. Chipping/practice bunker area is located up from the driving range.
No GPS on carts as they do offer caddy services. Yardage booklets are available for purchase @ $5.00 in the Pro Shop. Carts are equipped with a cooler and come with two small bottles of water. Food and snacks are a little pricey for our budget, but that's normal for the higher end courses. We opted not to stay and eat at the restaurant as there was a special event going on. So I was l little disappointed in not getting my homemade potato chip fix. BUT, I noticed they had some nice weekday happy hour promotions I just may have to return and investigate. ;)
Almost forgot to mention...If you opt to play from the Tips, be prepared...this course will humble you quickly. (18th Hole 600)

Played 36 on 8/10 with a buddy of mine. Course is in great shape. To echo other recent reviews, some scorched areas on some fairways but considering the drought it really wasn't a huge issue as almost all lies were perfect. What a fantastic layout, lots of elevation change and scenic views of some HUGE estates. Greens were in great condition, some a little moist with minimal divot marks. Greens here are really deceptive due to some differences in speed. Some green seemed blazing fast while other required a little more oomph depending on the grain I guess. If you think your putting well come here for a true test of your reading abilities. Bunkers were excellent! Soft, fluffy, and well maintained. Rough was NASTY, take a nice hack and hold on because this stuff was sticky and ready to shoot up your score. Get comfortable with your long irons and you'll score well.

Was a little irked at the POP during our 9am round as it took us about 5:15 to finish with pno marshall seen despite a call to the starter. Given all the "4:30" signs everywhere it was bit disappointing.

Second round was much better as there was no one on the course and felt as if we had our own private club. Staff was attentive and courteous. Wouldn't pay the rack rate here, but at $105 for unlimited play it is a must play.

Played 8-9-14 with a group of GK'ers. The course is in great shape. Very challenging track with lots of elevation changes and undulating greens. The traps varied a bit but were very playable. The customer service is superb, from the cart guys when you arrive to the pro shop and even the cart girl. The marshals are clearly visible and friendly and do a great job of keeping players on pace without feeling rushed. The overall experience was above and beyond your typical course. The only aspect that was questionable is the food service. We had a bad experience the last time here and this time although the service was better it still left you feeling less than impressed. I would play this course again without hesitation. If you haven't played here do yourself a favor and check it out. It will test your skills on the course and provide a golf experience you won't forget.

Played 8/9 with seven other GKers- two foursomes playing 36 holes filled with laughter and good shots! Course is in great condition! A definite 8.5! A couple of fairways had some scorched dry areas but all the others were in super condition with great lies everywhere! Greens were FAST and most broke true. Very undulating greens that test your putting skills. LOVED them! Sand was good for the most part- a little inconsistent in firmness and pack but I figure I shouldn't be in them anyway. :-) Tee boxes were level and lush but some of the forward tees need some more care. It's not acceptable to have weeds growing so high at the front edge as to interfere with a shot. The rough is thick, deep, and punishing! Stay out of it for best results! LOL The layout of this course is very challenging. You WILL use your clubs in a thoughtful manner! Lots of terrain and elevation changes and a good variety of challenges. AND there are MARSHALS! Not just guys riding around in carts but actual working marshals making sure the pace is consistent and that everyone is having a good time golfing! VERY NICE and much appreciated! The cart girl was wonderful!! Friendly, professional, and always there before we could wonder where she was! In fact the entire staff here is really amazing- from the cart boys to the GM, everyone was friendly and helpful, making sure our day was the best it could be!!! Really an exceptional experience thanks in large part to them. :-) If I had to find something that needs improvement I would say their food service at the clubhouse. We had a disappointing experience last time and while better this time it still made us shake our heads and wonder how at a course where so much is JUST RIGHT- this area could be so not. Overall we had a really good time, with great golfers, having fun on a beautiful course where we felt like valued customers. We'll most definitely be back for more!

Had a great day playing with a great bunch of GKers. Always fun to play with GKers as they all take their golf as serious fun, no disrespect for the game going on whatsoever! We played 36 . . . I know, I know I boasted I could go all day and all night, but you know how men are, women are just tougher.
Anyways the course was in good condition, about a 7 to 7.5.
Tees: no complaints
Fairways: mostly perfect, but some of the areas that the ball funnels to had some divot damage
Rough: that thick, spongy, sticky stuff is hard to play from, on long shots, pitches, chips or trying to run the ball through it (good luck!)
Traps: The ones I saw or was in were fine, but I heard some moans from the others about inconsistency
Greens: tough to read, fast in one direction much slower the other. Subtle breaks and quite a few "foolers". A couple of the greens showed signs of light aeration, maybe some patchwork here and there, but very playable.
POP: 4 to 4.5 each 18, not much waiting
Customer service: they take care of you well. Saw the snack cart often.
Overall: a great deal, $105 all you can play and they are now running an in house promotion at that price so go get ya some!

Maderas is in fantastic shape right now. Fairways are lush and green and have a decent amount of roll. Greens are smooth and roll very nicely; they aren't quite as fast as they used to run here, but they're quick enough to make putting the contours a good challenge. Staff is great as always. Overall, I'd say it is in the best shape in years, and for a place that has always been very well kept, that really means something!

Played Maderas July 25th 2014, first time playing this course and was very impressed with the course overall. Only complaint was the greens were pretty slow which was due to over-watering. The greens that rolled much faster were the ones elevated and/or had the ability to drain better. This course is one of the nicest courses I have ever played, the design forces you to be accurate with your shots. Therefore, I played a lot more conservative than I normally play. I scored the deal on underpar which included 2 players with cart and free replay for $85. We played all 36 from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Pace of play only got bad on the last few holes. Customer service was 5 star from beginning to end.
