Played Maderas on 10/27, and the conditioning was superb - the maintenance alert should be changed to "Green". Greens were excellent with no sign of the aeration, and rolled true and fast. Fairways were very green nice consistency, and the tee boxes have nicely grown in from the overseeding. Condition-wise, Maderas is better than I've seen in years.

Pace of play, however, was terrible this time which is unusual for Maderas. We had an early tee time (around 8am) and there were apparently some groups ahead who were atrociously slow, and the course management wasn't able to do much to help it. The front 9 took a full 3 hours, and while the back 9 was faster at about 2:15 it still made for a round well over 5 hours.

Today was my first round at Maderas. Best conditions I've seen in So Cal by far.
Observations:
- Course plays a lot shorter than the scorecard appears. All long holes are considerably downhill
- Troon customer service is first class - Watermelon scented towels and lemonade at the end of the round.
- Immaculate greens, fairways. No divots on the greens; hey were hard but receptive (I know that sounds like an oxymoron)
- Lots of roll on the fairways.
- Great layout.

Payed Maderas for the first time on Thursday 8/23. I found a sub $100 rate online and decided to give this place a shot. I don't really know what I was expecting but the course was surprisingly worth the $$. This is a first class experience...with one exception I can get into that later, but the staff was friendly and helpful. The course conditions were very good for the season. Fairways were lush and green if a little damp, greens rolled semi fast and true but a few were a little too soft and sandy but still very good. They keep the rough short so if you happened to miss the fairways you still had the opportunity to make the prudent play. I found the course to be very fair with no "tricky" holes. I would like to play here more often but the distance and $$$ are restrictive. Anyways, if you can find a good value online like I did, I would highly recommend Maderas GC.

Played Maderas Sunday morning 8AM, 7/29/12, in the Troon Challenge with GKer 1RUDEDOG. Team format with both hitting drives and selecting the best, then play own ball after that. Saw GKer bradleycoop there as well. For $80 each on a weekend morning this rate is a steal compared to the normal ridiculous Maderas rates.

Course is challenging and fun, and I would play here much more often if rates were better (and it was a little closer to Orange County). Pro touted their $89 all day rate, not sure if that's just on Monday, or Monday-Thursday - that's a good deal for this high end course. Greens were in very good condition - receptive, rolled well at medium-fast speed, sped up as they dried out. All greens have a lot of slope and humps and bumps - very fast greens here would really make this course a beast. Fairways were generally very good, rough not too tough, but lots of natural areas and ESA surrounding the course, and some internal. Not in the sand today. Tees were in pretty bad shape, with some completely closed and others showing a lot of wear. Pro stated that it hadn't gotten hot enough for the bermuda to take hold after the overseed, so they were still in 'transition'.

Saw the cart girl a few times, enough water available, multiple rangers on the course, staff friendly and helpful. One of my favorite courses in SoCal. Recommended if you can get a good deal.

Played yesterday afternoon and the staff was very helpful. The fairways and rough were in pretty good shape but the greens and tee boxes were not. The greens were really slow and grass was different colors so I don't know if a different type of grass is growing in or what but I was really disappointed in these greens. I usually love playing here because the greens are smooth and fast. They were not that smooth but that's from people not repairing their marks and I didn't hold that against the course. There were numerous tee boxes that were in very bad shape. They need to get some grass on some of these boxes otherwise it would be all dirt. Fairways were pretty good which caught me by surprise considering we are in the summer. I was expecting semi brown throughout but it was actually pretty green. Sand was very good, found a couple of bunkers and thought these were very playable. Not sure what was going on but the round took over 5 hours. I think for a Monday afternoon it should be a little quicker, I'd expect that pace on a weekend. Usually this place is top notch but I'll probably wait until I see a little bit better conditions before I come back.

Played Sunday 5/6 at 11:50am as part of SCGA Member event. Service was top-notch, beautiful facility, but that is kind of where the positives end. Free range balls, but the balls were horrible and range grass was cut very thin. Course itself is quite a challenge with lots of elevation changes and lots of places to lose a ball with a wayward shot. Course is generally in very good condition, tee boxes are leve, fairways are lush, and lots of sand in bunkers. Greens are in good condition, but are ridiculously slow for a top-line golf course. Saw cart girl numerous times and she was great.

Pace of play was a choke at 5 hours. Group in front of us was a joke playing from the blue tees and taking their own sweet time. Marshall told us there was no one in front of them, but they still played ridiculously slow. We were a group of 10-20 handicappers and waited on every shot due to these bozos.

I paid $119 through the SCGA with a $20 food credit, at that rate the course is a decent value. But when I note their regular non-resident rate of $170 during the week and $210 on the weekend, the course is exorbitantly overpriced. Played Moorpark County Club and their weekend rack rate is $120 and that is every bit as nice a golf course as Maderas.

Would I go back? Nope, not unless I had a special rate and knew the greens were of a legitimate speed.

Played this course on 12/22 with guys from the Office at the Govt Rate of $75.00 w/cart. Tee time was 9:15 a.m. I was extreeeeeeeeeemely impressed by the attention given to us from the minute we arrived. It is very easy to see why this course is ranked so highly. It was impressive even in it's wintered condition. Tee Boxes were REMARKABLE!! Beautiful green/lush/even -- like nothing I've every experienced. Very Lady friendly tee boxes (18th hole in particular takes out the entire canyon type scare factor. Nice, soft, sandy Bunkers made it much easier to get out of too. Fairways were rolling rolling rolling. Tad frustrating to hit what you think was a great shot up hill; on a plateau; all to see the darn ball start rolling backward and then allllllllllllllll the waaaaaaaaaay back down to the bottom of the hill/dry gully :( Felt like a goat trying to get back up the top. Phew! You'll certainly get a work-out walking! Practice facilities were fantastic. Level, good condition lots of balls. Starter was Great. Explained the pin placement of the day, which holes (1 & 10) cart path only, rest of the holes were driveable. Certainly had to pay attention to the layout. Right to left / Left to right, they rolled and rolled and rolled. Greens were large and undulating...certainly made you think. Scenary was UNBELIEVEABLY Stunning. Winds kicked up a tidge so you had to pay attention and keep those shots low. Pace of play was somewhat slow. Cart Lady made her rounds regularly and even gave us Hershey chocolate kisses. :) Ooops I'd be remiss in mentioning the gentleman that wiped our card down for us and assisted with loading our bags; then there was the Hot Apple Cider (recipe cards available)..yeh yeh I'm a gal golfer and those things make me happy. :) I did lose a couple balls in a couple of the water hazzards and one OB. Course kicked my tuckus, but I finished it. Upon arrival back at the AWESOME clubhouse, we were greated by smiling young faces, with a basket of nice Warm face towels to freshen up; and Lemonade. We took the cart to the car; unloaded the bags, then decided to grab a bite at the resturant. The Chili and Cornbread were SCRUMPTIOUS (and hubby is picky). They make their own homemade ranch style potatoe chips (that were hit and miss...some nice and crunchy; others chewy/stale). Signature Bloody Mary had a kick to it and the Sliders I got weren't as good as the ones at Sycuan, but they were still quite tasty. Food prices were average for a clubhouse venue. Pro Shop was very nice; well stocked, and check-in was a breeze. Overall the experience was certainly one of the BEST We've Ever Had! I believe they do offer a discount with a "residence care"... Would Love to play this course again as I'm sure as nice as the tee boxes and greens were maintained, the fairways would be exceptional during their peak season. Overall a moderate/difficult course that will test you at every fairway. Loved It!

A little late posting this but played last week with Johnny and course was in great shape. They had everyone starting from #10 when we played. The course does have plenty of tees boxes which can challenge all skill levels. Greens were in great shape but they weren't as fast as I have played them but that is probably because of the winter conditions and cooler weather. Some big undulating greens. I remember me and Johnny on #9 were on the left of the green and the pin was on the right. Man the putt broke right with swell in the middle that the putt could roll off the green if it wasn't hit firm enough but too firm puts you past the hole. You can put up some big numbers here if you're not hitting the fairway because there are hazards all over the place here. Big practice range with grass tees. Also a chipping and putting green. Staff was very helpful. Great scenery and boy do I wish I had one of the houses the overlook this course. Great place to play.
