Played late morning weekday with a few buddies. I feel like if there's a course I frequent that never disappoints it's maderas. Though a bit out of the way for me, the course, conditions, and service I feel are worth it. Check-in and starter very friendly, range balls included. Course was set up fast. Tees in good condition, fairways mown nice and tight for a lot of roll. Rough was short for the most part but consistent. I was not in any bunkers, cant speak to that. This course is true target golf but I enjoy that and it makes for good scenery. The toughest part though here is the greens... Huge greens but multiple undulations, tiers, and speed is always difficult to judge IMO because the grain seems to affect putts so much more here than most places i play. Pop was 4h15min, too slow for my taste. Still a gorgeous day to play though

Played Maderas a couple of times over the last few weeks. This is about as good as public golf gets. Great facilities and staff.

Course is a blast. Great condition all around, except for a few tee boxes. Many of the holes have multiple small tee boxes built into hillsides and other locales that must be challenging to maintain, and some of them are running a bit rough right now. But it is still better than most other places.

Greens are beautiful, smooth and quick. Fairways have nice coverage. Rough is generally very good.

Highly recommended.

Found a www.teeoff.com deal for $65 after promo code and took my Father and brother with me out to Maderas. I had not played here in 5 years and really wanted to get back out. $65 is an amazing price to pay to play Maderas. We got to the course at 1130 hoping to sneak out earlier than our 12:30 tee time and the staff was super friendly and let us go out at 12. We Zipped around the course in about 3 hours and 50 minuets only waiting on par 3's.

The conditions here are spectacular right now. Nicely mowed tee's with plenty of space and tee sets to choose from. Fairways were a nice emerald green color with full coverage. I do not believe I had a bad lie all day. Rough is mostly dormant but plays nicely and gives a desert look to the course. Greens were the best part of the day even though I have never seen tougher pin locations. All greens were the same fast pace and smooth. Well struck shots would spin but you have to be careful because there are many false edges on this course.

In all the staff here is awesome from the check in to the starter and Cart girls. Top notch service as expected from a Troon facility. I highly recommend playing here soon if you can snag a deal.

Date: 8/22/2018 POP: 3:30 (1:30 front 9, 2:00 back 9) Weather: Hot! Service: The staff was very friendly and generally welcoming. The service here is probably better than most private courses I have played. They are very attentive and remember you by name once you introduce yourself. They have many amenities available and also provide you with refreshments and cool towels to clean yourself off after the round. The starter was probably the funniest one I have ever met. Greens: The greens rolled true, albeit a lot slower than what they looked like they would roll. I am not sure if they were leaving them longer due to the heat we have been having in socal lately, but they were definitely slower than I remember. The greens are also very tricky. Some are very large, some very small, but all of them have a decent amount of undulation and tiers so you need to make sure your approach game is sharp. Fairways: The fairways looked a bit dry but did not play that way. They played fairly lush compared to what we expected them to play and were never bare. They were a bit on the firm side but that is typical for this course so you can benefit from good drives. Ball striking off the fairways was a bit firmer than I was used to, and because I tend to take larger divots I had to adjust for these conditions. Bunkers: Bunkers were well maintained and had excellent sand. They were uniform all throughout the course and that includes the practice facilities. Tee Boxes: Level with minimal ball marks. Some odd locations of the markers with a few pin positions on the par 3s where you couldnt see the pins. Rough: About 1-1.5" long but not thick. The rough played like dormant grass and it wasnt too punishing (although that is the least of your worries on this course) Overall: I really like Maderas but if you are off on any part of your game you will be losing balls all day. Demanding tee shots, forced carries and narrow holes make for a really fun round.

Headed out to Maderas for a practice round before playing here tomorrow for a tournament. Conditions are excellent right now. Greens have some undulations making lag putts a bit of a challange, but they are rolling super smooth. Greens easily hold approach shots. Fairways are green and lush with rarely a divot to be found. Tee boxes are in excellent shape. Lush and completely level. As far as the layout, what's not to like? Elevation changes and water features (lakes and flowing creeks) peg the fun meter. Tee shots range from demanding precise distance control for lay ups to downhill grip and rip it! There aren't really any dog leg holes. Most are straight forward with bunkers and water features to challenge you off the tee. Also, there are no fairways that butt up next to each other. All are separated by native area. This adds to the difficulty challenge but also keeps you from feeling crowded as you never run into another golfer from another hole. What's not to like....?? Oh yeah, rattlesnakes and poison oak!!! But that's why there's a premium for being in the fairway!! Maderas is a great course, well worth the fee. I just hope the pin placements are as friendly tomorrow as they were today

The greens are spectacular and running very quick right now. Both my dad and I had lots of practice on the greens.....and three putts to show for it. Tough day. The fairways are very firm, have looked better, but rollout and play very true. The rough is a bit scruffy, and this place has lots of it with few opportunities for recovery. This was my third time ever playing maderas and I loved it. The conditions were not as good as I remember before, but everything else was spot on. Service is the best I've experienced anywhere, pace of play great at 4 hours, and bar and grill superb. I really can't ask for a better experience. We got a very good deal on tee off at $81, so good all around.

Played Thursday at 11 and I’ve always found the customer service here to be top notch and this day was no exception. You can tell these employees take pride here. The overall course does have a winter feel to it.

Fairways were good. The course has a lot of slope so some of the low points tend to have more divot damage. Decent roll on drives and this comes with a little rain from the night before.

Immediate rough is not an issue but it’s really the native areas that are of more concern.

The greeens had been lightly sanded but was noticeable and took away a little bit from the experience. They were faster than you expect with the sand so give it some time and these greens will be outstanding. A little soft from the overnight rain.

Finished in 3 1/2 hours. There was no one ahead of us the entire day and we kept in front of the group behind us but the did catch up on 18.

I’d wait a little bit to let the greens get back to normal and then it would be great to go play.

Finally I don’t usually comment about food but I did get something at the turn and they have these chips which I think are homemade. These are the best chips I’ve ever had. Never thought I’d rave about chips but these are outstanding.

I played Maderas on July 31 because if I'd waited any longer our coupon would have expired. Temperatures were in the high 80s to about 90, but it was comfortable. The course is in generally good condition, and the parts that were dry or needed attention were getting addressed. Greens were in excellent condition, fairways were generally in good condition, as were the bunkers (so my playing partner tells me).

POP was fine for our morning round, but slowed a little for the afternoon round, but we were a twosome so couldn't really complain Great service, particularly from the starter. Maderas is pricey, but the play all day coupon for about $100 per player is a good deal.

Played the Blues (73.3/136/6670) with Parker, his dad Jim & Mike in bright, breezy conditions in the 70's. The POP was around 4.5H. This would be a very challenging course to walk since it's hilly with several tees a good distance from the last green. Many holes have red penalty areas down one or both sides, but I usually find this course very manageable off the tee. Fairly wide landing areas on most holes. The customer service was excellent from all encountered. Starts with an attendant collecting your clubs when you arrive, to complimentary range balls and finishes with attendants who clean you clubs and provide cool, wet towels for you to wash off with at the conclusion of your round. They also have an informative starter and Marshall who actually is courteously out looking to enforce POP guidelines. The Bermuda tees were very good. Only a few par 3's needed divot attention. The Bermuda fairways were mostly lush. I almost always had good lies in the fairway. The Bermuda rough had good coverage and was mostly lush. Not too penal, it was deep enough to get your attention but your could always find your ball in the primary rough. The traps here are about as good as you can get on any public course. Good quality sand, enough said! The greens putted medium fast, were usually firm and relatively smooth for the most part. The only negative was the amount of unfixed ball marks, which is a golfer issue. Excellent practice facility that is inclusive with the daily fee. Drink cart out and making the rounds multiple times. The only negative here is that the carts do not have GPS, which is really odd for a high end course? The amenities, layout, design, difficulty and conditions are all well above average. Absolutely recommended.
