Played 7/30 with two tee times. Course is in great shape with the exception of the sand traps, which are easily the worst in San Diego (Woods Valley is a close second). Customer service is excellent and every member of the staff goes out of their way to ensure your experience is a good one. I had my Navy retirement ceremony there and they bent over backwards to make it a successful event and that will ensure that I am a loyal customer for life (I might even volunteer to help fix the bunkers!) Salt Creek is a challenging course that offers beautiful vistas and views towards the ocean, especially the 14th green, with nothing that would keep any level of player off the course.

Played In the 6/11 event. It was a great time. Nice facility overall. Good practice range. Large practice putting green. Golf course was in very good shape. Fairways were aerated recently, but were still good. They were plenty wide. However, you needed to favor the correct side, depending on which way they were tilted. Rough was 3-5 inches long. It was a wide-bladed tougher grass than I'm used to. It created a lot of flyer lies. Beyond the rough, it's mostly waist high grass & brush. Much of it is ESA. Greens were in great shape. They were soft underfoot, but very quick. If you were above the hole, it was tough to judge the speed correctly. I thought the staff did a good job, considering they were doing two tournaments at the same time.

*Note to anyone who hasn't played in a GK Event & is thinking about it.* Please come on out and play. It's a good time. It's a fun atmosphere. Johnny does all the hard work, gives you a great rate, & provides all the prizes. Can't ask for more. Nick, it was nice playing with you again. Your short game was real solid on and around the greens.

Played as a part of the GK Casual Golf Outing. We were a separate group that took over the course for the day. The other, Eastlake High Boosters for the CIF Football Champions. Congratulations to them and partly because of their hospitality it made a great outing for GK!

Course conditions, typical links style. Rolling fairways, loads of trouble. Fairways in good shape. Good coverage, no bare spots but you do have to play target golf. A few blind tee shots would do you well to BUY a YARDAGE Book in the proshop PRIOR to teeing off. There is a lot to be said about course knowlege. Rough is thick, and scary. Greens were FAST. A little bumpy but very quick. Pace of play was fast considering we were behind the larger tournament. I would play here again. Just note to buy that yardage book AND make sure I can tee off because here you need a decent tee shot to salvage a hole.

Played 6/11/10 in the GK Outing. All the GK tournaments I have experienced have been on great courses with cool Gkers and this one was no exception! Johnny does all the hard work, I sign up, pay a few $$'s, and have a great time! Thanks to Johnny and his assistants for all your hard work putting these tournaments together. This course was tough for me. I played the weekend before and thought my game was finally improving but as golfers know, just when you think you are improving, something goes awry! The greens were very fast and it was hard to read the greens...when we putt for a break, there was none..when we thought it was straight, it would break...made for a very challenging, albeit fun, time. Be sure to read the tips on the GPS when teeing off as it helps to know which direction to aim or avoid. The fairways were fast also and we picked up some extra yardage which was great. The rough was thick but sometimes my ball was just sitting up so nicely, I was thrilled. Didn't have any trouble getting out of the sand as it was pretty firm. The staff was very, very friendly and so helpful. Great price, great people, great time!

Played in the GK outing. Nice layout overall. There are holes where local knowledge would be helpful due to the slope or blind areas over crests of hills. The greens rolled nice and were firm to very firm. The fairways were in good shape, cut close, which added lots of roll but could also produce tight lies. Better hit the fairways, because there are numerous ESA areas and other places not far off the beaten path where the underbrush is 3' deep and penalty strokes are waiting to happen. the rough was fairly thick, which made hitting longer clubs difficult to impossible. Traps were well maintained and in good condition, but hard in places. Thanks to Frank - Tom for a nice round.

Had a great time at our event. I thought the playing conditions were great Friday. The greens were very fast, seem to hold my shots fine (shots chips the exception) and I did not notice as many bumps as some of the previous reviews have indicated. In fact, my ball was staying online with all my strokes. What I did notice was many unfixed fresh ball marks (likely from the another event taking place that day, which of course I fixed – lol). I did not see signs of previous an aeration that took place in late April affecting any putts. Greens were great in my opinion. Some fairways had signs of an aeration/verticut that looked to have taken place in the last couple weeks while others did not. The aerated fairways hardly effected how my ball was sitting up. I liked the firmness of the fairways as it provided a lot a roll but you had to be careful in that with the firmness of the fairways, the slopes of the fairways came more into play making it easy (as was my case) to run balls through either into heavy rough or in hazards. Overall, they were well covered with grass, mowed tight and I was able to hit crisp iron shots all day. The Rough, whoa, that was rough. Thick and 2 to 4 inches tall. Seemed the ball sat up in it most of the time but when it sat down, that was difficult stuff to deal with. Some areas directly adjacent to the fairways had bare areas but overall it was thick with excellent coverage. The sand traps, well, that is where the course needs to make some major improvements. They were very thin in sand and very firm. If you go in the bunker, you’re best served NOT to use a club with much bounce and opt for a possible open bladed PW. My lob wedge fortunately has a very little bounce so I was able to manipulate the ball out the bunkers fine.

From an organizer standpoint, I thought the staff of the course was very professional and accommodating. I was running late due to an unforeseen flat tire and they responded superbly but putting signage up to handle check in the proshop, distributing lunch tickets, and printing up scorecards last minute. They had two events that day and sectioned our smaller event off from the larger one very effectively.

Thanks to Ringworld and Jimw224 for their patience and companionship - enjoyed playing with them very much, and got to meet many other GKers, as I only get to a couple of these events each year. See my review from a few weeks ago - I benefited from having played here previously for club selection and strategy. Greens were in better shape this time, firm and very quick, although fairways had been recently verticut. Rough around greens and fairway margins is that bristly, clumpy grass that gives very uncertain lies and is difficult to hit full shots from - I think punchouts with a firm descending blow work best. I like this course, but poor shots can be severly punished, and you need to bring a good game.

This is a true links course. Many sloping fairways but GPS gives good hints as to ideal landing zones. Bunkers were in bad shape, Hard pack. Greens were inconsistent for speed and some were pretty bum... Continue »

This is a true links course. Many sloping fairways but GPS gives good hints as to ideal landing zones. Bunkers were in bad shape, Hard pack. Greens were inconsistent for speed and some were pretty bumpy. Its a fun layout with a lot of variety and a few tough carries. Over all a fun experience. Would play here again if I were in the area.

Fun times here with the GK outing. Range is nice and all grass and plenty of target markers out there, although range balls were pretty nasty looking. The course is good if you hit shots with lots of roll, just watch OB, because many times it's dead. Fairway looked nice, would be nicer if I was on it once in a while. Sand is hard packed and I typically chipped it out easily. Overall cool layout, but wouldn't drive over 2 hours again for it. A good spot for locals though
