Played 4.5 hour mid morning Friday round on a busy course. The staff is very efficient and helpful. The practice greens are great and there is a good sized driving range. The carts here are always the worst part of the round. They lack windshields and drive like an old truck with no power steering. The tee boxes were all level and in good condition with ample coverage. The rough is not very penal where it exists with mostly ob along the sides of the fairways. The fairways were in decent condition with spots of bare dirt throughout the course from start to finish. The bare sections were generally small and not too much of a problem. The fairways traps were mostly a hard pan of dirt/sand mix. You could hit a shot from them easily enough. Greenside bunkers were in better shape with a fair amount of decent sand. The greens were all a little shaggy and bumpy. The speed was much slower than we were used to and was a problem for most. The greens held good shots with little roll. The course has a few water features and is very flat on the front with small elevation changes on the back. The course is set quite a ways from the neighboring homes and located a few minutes off the freeway. The rates are reasonable and the course in usually in decent condition.

Played 4/26/26 8 am. Very busy course even in the morning rain. Fairways had mostly good to great coverage with a few thin areas mixed around. Rain made everything soggy with little to no roll. Greens had good coverage. Very soft and bumpy. A few had not completely recovered from areation. Traps very firm from rain. Over all the course was in decent to good shape. The home to long rounds but worth try if not in a hurry.

Early morning nearly freezing 4.5 hour round. The staff is thinly spread but takes care of the customers. The rates are out of line with what they offer. The practice facilities are nice and always seem to be busy. The carts are lacking the basics such as a WINDSHIELD. With the rates they charge now they need to equip their carts with a WINDSHIELD. The tee boxes were adequate with some being a little thin and shaggy but all level. The rough really does not exist anywhere on this course. The edges of the fairways are barren turf or dirt and sloped towards ob water hazards and thick brush. The front nine here in always in thin sad condition with lack of sun and playable grass on the fairways. The fairways improve as the round progresses and you will notice the back nine in much better condition. The sand traps were all wet damp hard packed dirt and sand. Hitting a shot from the traps anywhere on the course is nearly impossible. The greens were in decent condition and held shots well. There were not too many ball marks from start to finish which was nice. The greens had great coverage and were pretty quick with very consistent roll from the first to the last. There are many water holes and ob sections on this course. One nice thing is the deer you see on the front nine. We were hoping to find the conditions had improved with the increased rates but sadly that wasn't the case. Maybe during the warmer months the course will show some progress.

Have not played there in two years. Two years ago it was pretty rough. Not any better now.

Greens are good. Fairways hit and miss.
Lakes full of algae.

Thought I lost a ball on 16th hole but found it in a gopher hole.

American Golf could care less because the place was packed with golfers on a Tuesday afternoon.

Would I go back again? Probably in another two years during the summer since it was 20 degrees cooler than outside my house in Indio.

It is a really great lay out of fun holes but upkeep is bad.

The Vineyard is a challenging and enjoyable course to play. Normally I have no complaints but the grass on the greens are starting to blossom. This makes the greens very unsmooth and extremely slow. Everyone in my foursome was unable to putt hard enough to reach the hole. It is an unusual situation. Be aware it can mess up your putting touch. I played Rancho Bernardo the same week and it took four holes to get used to putting normal speed again. I was blasting by the holes by ten feet.

Early morning Sunday four hour round on a very busy course. The staff is friendly enough. The practice facilities are good and usually very crowded. I was hoping that the really old fleet of carts had been replaced (they had not). The carts lack any gps, windshield, cooler or ball/club washer. They'll get you around the course but drive like an old truck with no power steering. The tee boxes were all in pretty good shape with good coverage. The rough was just BRUTAL from the first to last hole. If you were a foot off the fairway you were not going to find your new Pro V or anything else. The grass (but mostly clover) was anywhere from a few inches long to a foot! The fairways were still spotted with bare dirt sections throughout the round with many tight lies on most holes. The ball would have plenty of run off the tee right into that foot long clover!!! The traps were trimmed nicely but most were very damp or had standing water. The sand in most traps was okay with some having lots of rocks and pebbles. The greens are definitely the attraction here with most being in really good condition. Good shots held well for the most part but a couple of the greens were a little firmer than the others. They rolled at medium speed and were cover with poa on every hole. There were a few deer feeding on the front nine and hundreds of turtles in the ponds on the back nine (the highlight of the round). The flat front nine is quite a bit shorter than the back nine and has several forced carries. The back nine is a hike for those who like to walk with hills and substantial distance between holes. The setting and layout of this course are really nice - just wish the conditions were.

This course used to be in great condition. Haven't played here in about 15 years. Course was full on a Friday and pace of play was 4 hours and 15 minutes.

So here is the question. Why has American Golf spent so little on making this a nice quality course like it used to be? They mus be making money.

Great layout; fun to play but except for the greens the rest of the course needs some work. Not just a drought issue; it is lack of maintenance issue.

Early morning Sunday round in a little over four hours. This round reminded me of what this course can be. The staff was good and starter very friendly. The carts are dated with no windshields or gps but outlets. The practice faciltiy is adequate and usually busy. The tee boxes ranged from thin and sloped to level with good coverage. The rough is not present on many holes but was thin and patchy where it was found. There are several forced carry holes with most being on the front nine of this par 70 course. The fairways ranged from thin and wet to thick and dry with good coverage. There were a couple of holes that had new turf placed on the fairways that were roped off but you were able to play your ball from them. The traps were all thin and hard packed with standing water in a few. The traps were fairly well trimmed but in desperate need on truck loads of sand. The greens all had nice coverage but more poa than any course I've played. Good shots from the fairways would stop nicely but getting the ball in the hole was another story. Putts jumped and snaked on every hole which frustrated our entire group. The front nine is flat and the back nine has some elevation changes which seems to add distance. The views are nice on the back nine and the course is worth the rack rates. I would say that if they can continue to improve the playing conditions it will become difficult to get a tee time here.
