Got out Friday at 2 after a day of fishing in perfect weather with temperature of 74. Asked if wet or cart path restrictions but told conditions should be good after a week of drying out. Marshal wanted me to return by 4:30 so he could lock up as only a couple groups were out. Was feeling good at start and hustled around finally catching a twosome just leaving tee box on 14 so I skipped that one and continued through 18 at 3:50. Decided to head back out to finish play on 14 the furthest hole from clubhouse and ended round at cart barn at 4:15. As Roarksown1 said weather here changes everything and a beautiful day made conditions great for me! No rollout, LCP a few drives but nothing plugged, two fairways with heavy leaves being blown off, only had to repair my pitch marks, 18 left trap dry heavy sand easy out to 18" for par, white tee boxes were level and had good coverage, fairways had both thin and lush areas and back nine greens showed punch marks still rolled true if only a bit slow. Saw a hawk grab a ground squirrel, a flock of about 70 turkeys, a coyote tracking something and a roadrunner. Such a quick round didn't notice anything detrimental especially when shooting straight and on target. Had a nice dinner at grill and stayed in resort cottage across street to end a full day.

We played Warner Springs Ranch on the Saturday before the Rams Hill GK outing and it was certainly a memorable experience, but mostly of the non-flattering variety, but with a caveat. First off, the rainy and windy weather made the experience quite miserable with only a very few breaks throughout the day. But with the Borrego Springs resort having been closed and De Anza having a tournament all morning, we really hoped that WSR would scratch the itch, if of course the weather held. It did not. The greens were a disaster, and not just from being completely water-logged. The tee boxes were chewed up and rough, the bunkers were absolute gravel and mud and the fairways were thin, chewed up and of course also buried under the deluge of water. It was about as far from ideal conditions as you'll find just about anywhere thanks to the weather, but had the sun been shining, it would have likely been an entirely different experience. Why? Because this course has immeasurable character. It's charming AF and the layout is really superb. This course really makes you think and bring your best stuff. It's got some incredibly challenging holes, especially on the front nine, and you must be very accurate and precise to have any chance of getting a good score here. I do imagine this place in good condition to be absolutely fantastic, and based on the last review from July this past summer, it can absolutely get there, but how often is the question. After some discussions at Rams Hill with the San Diego clan of GKers, it looks like the best time to go back would be late spring/early summer. The pro shop is bare bones and they only open this place a few days of the week, Thur-Sun I believe. There's not much of a range but it gets the job done, and the restaurant was really good I thought. I believe we paid around $50 for the greens fee, which was too much for that particular day, but it's also not going to get any better with less money, so I was okay with it. While most of my playing partners feel that a one and done at Warner Springs Ranch is just fine, I absolutely feel compelled to return one day when the weather is far better and course conditions match the super cool layout that awaits in this unique spot for golf.

I have been a monthly player of Warner Springs Golf Course since April 2016. I have never seen it playing better than it is right now (July 2019). The greens roll true. The fairways provide excellent lies. The rough (which was lush and penal all wet winter) has been mowed down to a reasonable height. If you enjoy pristine wilderness golf, you will truly enjoy the current playing conditions that this golf course offers!

After re roofing my house, I decided that wasn't enough punishment, so I headed out to Warner Springs. I have been wondering how this course has been doing and since everything around me was either booked or too expensive for the time slot, I decided to give it a try. It was in overall better condition than I expected. The fairways are a mixture of grass's ( weeds) but were mostly green and covered. They gave mostly good lies. Very firm, but decent.
The rough was a mixture of dirt, gopher mounds and thick weeds. Missing the fairway meant strong possibility of losing your ball in the tall clumps of weeds. Greens were very SLOW and woolly. Some have damaged or sick areas but most were covered, just very slow and bumpy. Traps might have been the most consistent part. I found a few and they seemed hard panish, but they played great and were really easy to get out of ! I only saw 4 other groups out there so I had the place to myself. Lots of Turkeys & wildlife around the course. Weather was perfect. If considering playing the course, it is most likely in the best shape it will be for the year? It could be a good place to go out with the wife/ girlfriend to spend the day with a course to yourselves and then enjoy some of the great wineries in the area?

Stopped after playing Rams Hill. Course is open, but undergoing major upgrading, led by Johnny Miller and staff. I loved the fact that the course has no homes anywhere in sight. Total serenity and quite. The course has tremendous character and I really hope it comes back to life. It would be a great asset to the S CA golf community. And old style course, with plenty of trees and a fair amount of elevation changes, given its location. If they put this course back into playing condition (which they say they will), then it will be a place you want to play. The entire course, is what you would call? Play at your own risk, at present.

Called course today 11/5/17 and was told they deep cored the greens a couple of day's ago and are recovering from both aeration and summer damage.

Played 5/14/17 12 pm $ 44 POP 3:45 Course is a mixture of good and bad. Most of the fairways were in decent to great shape. A little woolly in some areas and thin in others. Mostly green, but dry underneath. Decent lies. Rough was a mixture of 12" tall meadow grass, 6" thick lush grass (Torrey Pines, US Open)and bare dirt. Some fairways went from wooly mowed to 12" weeds. Greens were "OK". Most are very spongy and feel like they really need some aeration & sand. Held shots decent, but ran at a pretty slow pace. Some were very wooly and needed to be cut. There were patches of lush green spots on some of the greens were the grass was 1/2" higher then the surrounding areas. If you had to putt trough them, you had no idea how the ball would roll. Tees were pretty beat up and you had to look for flat spots to hit from. The weather was perfect and a silence that you can almost feel is a real pleasure. I really enjoy being out in this area. Turkeys, tree squirrels and ground squirrels everywhere. We pretty much had the course to ourselves. If you don't mind a course that is a little rough on the edges and sometimes in the middle. It is a nice way to spend the day out here. And some good wine tasting places as well.

Up fishing in the area and went out last Sunday afternoon and again Tuesday morning. Stayed at their recently reopened cottages across street from course. Everyone nice along with all the facilities. Starter warned of some deep rough before paying with maintenance out trimming early Tuesday. Not a problem with fairly wide fairways. Greens smooth medium speed with no marks! Fairways green and thick for good lies but not much roll out. In one trap plenty of sand a few pebbles too noted others looked well kept. Good Rainville design very scenic with deer, turkeys, eagles and road runners. About half the tee boxes were dry or shaggy but level. Enjoyed relaxed sub three hour rounds in new cart with club/ball washer & ice chest. With the quick pace and decent conditions will play whenever in area and a few hours available.

I was in the warner springs area yesterday so I decided to give this course a try. Check in was easy and the course wasn't very crowded. Tee boxes were a mixed bag, some were good and others were pretty chewed up. Fairways were ok, almost typical Southern California, some dry area but for the most part they were playable. The greens are the best part of the course. The felt very spongee when you walked but they rolled very well. Almost no ball marks and a good fast speed. These greens rolled better then most courses in San Diego. I really liked how quiet the course was, no vehicle noise and no houses. If you are in the area then it's worth the green fee, I don't think I would make a special trip just to play this course.
