Played 1/24/24 11 am POP 3:15. Fun and fairly easy executive course. A couple of long par 3s but mostly medium length. Fairway had good coverage and mostly lush. A little on the soggy side from recent rains. Green in good to great shape. A little bumpy from the Poana. They ran at a solid medium pace and were very receptive. A couple of short par 4s made it fun to try and drive. Over all a fun time and in good to very good condition.

Course is in overall great condition and very green. However, you should know all the tee boxes are being reworked. They've been recently seeded and they are allowing the grass to grow several inches... Continue »

Course is in overall great condition and very green. However, you should know all the tee boxes are being reworked. They've been recently seeded and they are allowing the grass to grow several inches high. The greens are thick and lush and play a little on the slower side. POP at midday on a Tuesday was 3 hrs. Overall good experience and worth the green fees.

Played here this morning on a $27 GN hot deal (walking rate). I played North/East and then I ended up paying an additional $17 to play the third nine (South) to complete the trilogy. Had to wait some on first nine, but ultimately played through and had my own walking pace after that. Finished all 27 in about 3 hours.

The course was in very good shape all around. Mostly quite lush and green everywhere with a few scattered thin spots here and there. Tee boxes not too chewed up yet in the early morning. Greens very nice, true and quite smooth rolling at medium speeds. I was in one bunker and it wasn't too great, but hard to tell because it was so wet and compacted.

This is a very nice little executive with three short par-4s on each nine and otherwise a good mix of par-3 lengths. Set up for the retirement community where it's located, so it's a pretty fun and forgiving layout without too much trouble to get into. Fairly hilly, but still a good walking course. Definitely one of the better executive layouts around and a very friendly staff. Maybe a bit overpriced (ahem, JC Golf) for what it is.

My daughter (who played college golf), my son-in-law and I played Oaks North yesterday, on my Birthday. We diverted from Barona Creek due to the bad weather and the time available. We all three really enjoyed it. For an executive course, or really any course public course in San Diego, it's in great shape. Even right after the heavy rains, electric carts were fine on the fairways.

Surprisingly, it's an impressive Ted Robinson design with three nines. With mostly par 3's and a few par 4's, no two holes are alike. There are a few water hazards that come into play and elevation changes that make it attractive and challenging. Although I didn't take my driver or three wood, I used every other club in my bag! That's more than you can say about most par 72's. And the conditions were perfect for working on my short game.

This is definitely the kind of course that we need more of for the average golfer, families and kids. I see too many golfers shooting in the 100's and struggling at most courses, and just not having the fun that they could be having courses like Oaks North.

The greens have recently been punched and were a little bumpy. But they were still really quick, even after the rain. Overall the greens are as good or better than the neighboring courses. I believe that within a couple of weeks, they'll be fantastic. The tee to green distances from the whites range from about 100-185 yards, again, with a lot of variations - uphill, downhill, doglegs and water hazards.

And since it's a JC Golf club, I got to use some of my passes and kept the cost with carts to only $65 for three. That, and since we played in less than 3 1/2 hours, we had the time and money left over to enjoy a drink at the nearby Rancho Bernardo Inn.

Oh, and I did beat my daughter one up on the front and one up on the back.

I played the North and South courses. The greens were the highlighs being in impeccable condition. They are nice and large providing opportunities for long putts if you don't get close to the hole. The fairways were in good condition. Being a newbie to golfing, I ended up in the rough more than a few times, and was able to get back onto the fairway more times than not. The rough and off course areas were in good condition. Overall, an enjoyable course.

Play is usually pretty fast late in the day. Overall the course has been in good condition this summer. The South is the most challenging of the 3 nines.
