Played the last couple of weekends here and the course is in really nice shape and getting even better. I thought the greens were a little on the slower side first time I played but they have definitely picked up the pace last weekend. Greens are pretty smooth and not many unrepaired ball marks that I had to fix.

Fairways were nice and provided some good roll out. A few wet spots from watering. We did have some balls that ended up with quite a bit of mud on it so these areas were in area of play.

Rough wasn't too deep but whatever this grass is the ball can really settle down in it making for some sticky lies. Some parts of the rough are not bad thou.

Tee boxes were great, always a spot to tee from and I don't remember that much in divot damage. All seemed pretty level too.

Bunkers were good. I had no issues in any of them and I was able to hit the shots I wanted. Not super soft and not hard panned either.

Overall very good conditions with nice facilities.

Played here on Labor Day, Monday 9/5. Got on via San Diego Golf Reservations. It is the only Tom Fazio-designed course in San Diego. Between that, and the reputation of being super nice, and "all-inclusive" (cart, range balls, forecaddie, and food & beverage credit), I was willing to pay the high price tag of $360.

Looking back, I admit that was a bit too high, though it wasn't because the course didn't live up to the hype--I just didn't want to admit that to myself beforehand haha. As for the course itself, it was great. Every area was in great shape, except for the 13th hole, which had been punched in the fairway. There were several other holes that were cart path only, as well. I can't say it was the BEST conditions I've ever seen on a golf course, but it was certainly good.

The layout itself was also good, with enough challenge to make you hit good shots, but easy enough to shoot a good score if you keep it in play. And with 5+ sets of tees, there is all the variety you could want, from very long with many forced carries, to very short with no forced carries. Fun fact about this club: Xander Schauffle has a house behind the 15th hole, and plays here often when he's not on Tour.

My favorite part of playing here, other than the course itself, was probably the service. Everyone was super nice, polite, friendly, helpful and professional. The best service experience was from our forecaddie, whose name is Joe. He was super helpful, as well as super funny, with lots of personality, and he did a great job of paying equal attention to all four players in the group. I don't think I'd pay $360 to play here again (rather spread that money around elsewhere) BUT I would recommend this course in general. For example, maybe a stay & play, which you can find on GolfMoose, UnderPar, etc.

Was invited to play yesterday and we teed off a little after 8 and cruised around right at 4 hours. Never saw the group in front of us and group behind us was comfortably a shot behind.

Course itself is a Fazio design and I can see similarities between here and Rams Hill. Definitely some visual deceptions that mess with you. There are a couple of holes I didn't care for but overall I think its a well designed course.

The greens really baffled me here. They were pretty fast putting but when it came to chips nothing released at all. I have no idea how why this is the case but it was easily my worst putting performance in my career. The pins were in some pretty gnarly spots too. Greens have some undulation and subtle ones too. I saw putts breaking different ways at the same hole. Oh and for those of you curious I had 8 3 putts (insert meme of Homer Simpson disappearing in the bushes).

Fairways were good. There are some roped off areas where they resodded some turf and some of the holes were cart part only.

I don't know what type of grass the rough is but that ball could settle down in it and be really nasty. Not overly long but certainly a pain in the butt. The course meanders through the canyons so you have some native areas which if you're in the ball is a goner.

I was in one bunker and it was really nice. Tee boxes were nice as well. We played a black/blue combo tee. Par 3s may have some more damage but it was easy to find a place to tee off from.

Clubhouse is really nice and modern. We stayed and watched some of the NFL games. They have some TVs outside and inside. The guest rate was $110 which I think is a good price here. I know other clubs charge that or more so I believe their rate is well worth it.

We had great weather and it was a very nice day with blue skies that got up to 63 degrees. There was a slight breeze of 9-12 and an occasional 15 mph.

Coming from the high desert, the little wind and mild temperatures down there by the ocean are a big difference in what it could affect a ball flight. For example, coming in from the #18, I had about 144 to a front pin- slightly higher but almost level. My caddie suggested playing 183 although it was just a slight breeze. It was difficult to believe and trust, but when I played his suggested yardage, and played it well, I almost prayed it wouldn’t fly the green while the ball was in the air. But sure enough, I was just pin high on the right fringe. And that was an impressive call by the caddie and also something important to think about playing sea level heavy winds as opposed to high desert’s thinner air.

I’m happy to be back here again on a special visit with a few friends. I feel like I am away from everything and it’s always a good experience. The services during this time is still very nice with a few things missing that I don’t even miss.

At the driving range, the balls they had were brand new TaylorMade three piece balls marked with small lettering, PRACTICE. I wonder how many of those are pocketed at the end of each day- LOL ?? they had less than 20 bays as they made room for distancing and they also had an electronic gadget on each bag stand that I didn’t really care to investigate about. There were more than enough targets you could warm up with. There was also a small chipping area by the driving range and a putting green, but the better putting green was by the #1 tee and it’s huge.

Three different beverage cart roams around the course- all pleasant and helpful like the pro shop staff. Firm, direct and useful.

The course conditions were almost impeccable with minor blemishes every now and then, and they were mostly in areas away from play.

The rough were up about 3-4 inches although some were intentionally cut like the fringe. It’s tough to error on those low cut sides as nothing holds and stops a ball from the worst possible outcome.

The teeing grounds were very lush all over and were fair and level.

The fairways were so nice and without much divots and if there were, it was filled in with sand.

The bunkers had plenty of sand and were uniformly prepared- they were fluffy so take a lofty club with a high bounce wedge if you have it.

The greens were fast and sooo smooth and firm. It holds a proper played shots in. Very few ball divots were seen. What a pleasure to putt on !!

In addition to the course, there were a few PGA tour pro sightings which added to the excitement.

Overall, the course was in a very good conditions to say the least. I just love this course, and I hope to definitely be back.

Played as a guest Saturday afternoon in a little over four hours. The staff was very professional and friendly. The practice facilities were as nice as the course itself. The comfortable carts had gps but ours had a mind of its own and rarely worked. The course reminded me off a combo of Hidden Valley, The Journey and Cross Creek. The tee boxes were great with total coverage and all level. The rough was only a few inches tall and not very penal. The bermuda fairways were in great shape but a few were a little dry in places with very tight lies. The traps were numerous but in great condition with quality sand. The greens were all a little firm and well struck shots all rolled out. Being able to read the greens was a little frustrating as many had a lot less break than they appeared. The wind blowing through this canyon course is also a factor in the afternoon. The holes are all lined with scrub and protected areas with several having forced carries that are manageable. Course management is needed as is a couple rounds to figure out what to hit and where on each hole. The course is in great shape as it recently reopened and it should only improve condition wise over the summer.

Tee boxes were level and great to hit from. Fairways were recently cut and gave some roll. Didn’t play from the rough because of the best ball format but I could see it would be a good challenge. Same with the bunkers. Greens rolled great at a fast speed and very smooth. If you get a chance to play here I would take it.

First time here. March 10th at 10:30 was our tee time- and it was on time. It was a very nice day in the high 50s with some 8 to 10 mile an hour breeze coming from the ocean off and on but with a few gust of maybe 15 if any- it was gorgeous! Other than the excellent services and a huge Club house facility including our caddie, the course was amazing the way Fazio’s work played and tested us- tough but fair is all I could say. Everything and everywhere on the course was just very good... oh, and I loved the greens for its speed- my guess was about a smooth 11 maybe even a 12 on stimp. Touch it and it will go- I mean, it will go!! I wasn’t in any bunkers but playing partners seem to be okay with them- and I’ll take that as a good-good thing. The fairways were very good with just a few filled in divots though noticeable on a couple of short holes- not a big deal at all. The teeing grounds were good, though some of them were borderline uneven where it has been placed (back up within two clubs- problem solved). The 18th teeing grounds were being moved (back left it looks like) so they were using the forward tee on that hole. There’s a new building facility being built halfway down left side of the fairway and it looks like they’re trying to influence the tee shots to go to the right side of the fairway. So anyway, when I first got in the property, I saw they were rolling the greens :) that just warmed my heart in delight. Next I heard was their biggest member’s tournament was a week ago followed by someone saying that the course is in great shape which I actually heard a few other times at check in which the caddie also confirmed. I got on for $175 which was a deal (so people say) but that’s still way outside my normal, I just had to do it at least once. I’m just glad I caught it on a fast greens day because I’m not sure I’ll be able to come back for the same rate. (regular rate $250) The practice facility is AAA++ in my book. Ex. of their good service: There were two ladies in our group. At the back nine, far from restrooms, one of them had to use the restroom- the caddy made a call and within short minutes, a cart came to pick her up on the fairway and back to the green in no time. The coolest thing was not only was she back in time, she made that 15 footer putt for a birdie! All worth the drama. (lol) Beverage cart came by a few times- very nice. What a great time.

Played in a tournament yesterday and I still agree with the comments of the prior review. Everything about the amenities and staff are outstanding but the course itself is a bit of a let down. I'd say the fairways were great actually nice roll and mowed tight. Nice and green with minimal bare spots around. I didn't remember them being this narrow but if you're not hitting fairways you're probably lost your ball.

The ball could really sit down in the rough. Luckily since it was a tournament we didn't need to play too many shots from here. That is the immediate rough but the other is the native area and this native area is just too thick to even go find a ball. Some of this was not well marked so I'm not sure if its white or red stakes.

Greens were a disappointment. They rolled ok and much softer than I would have expected. I thought the putts would be much faster but they were not. There were also too many unrepaired ball marks, spike marks, and others.

Nice range and customer service was top notch. Forecaddie was a nice guy and that's all I'll say about that. Overall for the rack rate I wouldn't be inclined to say you'll get your money's worth right now.

I have been wanting to play this course for a long time and I wasn't really sure what to expect. Luckily I got to play a practice round for an upcoming tournament out there. I have to say I like the golf course. Its definitely not for everyone and it probably isn't my favorite course but it is definitely good with some really nice views. The staff was great and they really make you feel like you are in an upscale private club. I pulled up and they knew my name right away without asking. This is very much a target golf course and if you don't hit a straight ball, it could end up being a long day and lots of lost balls. Included in the greens fees is a forecaddie. I definitely recommend making sure you have the caddy if you are going for the first time. The conditions were pretty good all around but not immaculate. I was impressed by the bunkers and the green structures. It was pretty good lies mostly all around the course. The one thing that was a little disappointing was that the greens were really not fast at all. I was expecting super manicured private course types of greens. The ball rolled fine but they were not rolling any faster than a 9 on the stimp. All in all, I like the course and had a fun time. I am not going to be paying $250 for a round anytime soon though.
