unfortunately my least favorite course is also the closest...
horrible sand traps, unlevel tee boxes. fairways were in pretty good shape, greens were decent but many were bumpy. Decent layout but finding a level spot to tee it up gives me fits. Seemed like the entire landing area on 16 was ground under repair.

Course in good shape considering the heat. Traps might as well be paved over. Sand hard packed. Pace slow.

Played on 5/15/08. Called at 7:15 am and got an 8:30am time; we actually started at 8:00 am. Finished by noon.

Course was in best shape that I have ever seen it. The fairways were lush, as was the rough. Greens were in very good shape as well.

As I have said before, the front nine is more interesting and fun than the back nine. Though I probably feel this way as I score better on the front.

Hopefully they will keep the condition of this course up.

Played early Saturday. Course was in good condition. Some teeboxes were unleveled. Fairways were okay after maintenance. Alot of plugs that stopped your ball from rolling. Traps seemed alittle hard. Greens were great though. Wind was pretty strong and for some reason it felt like August, with the heat. I agree with bgpoppa about the price. There should be a difference if you want to walk the course. Nevertheless, was a good round. Hope to come back... but not too soon.

Played today 4/26/08.. First off We like to walk, normally there is a price break. Not at Camarillo Springs $57 regardless. In my opinion I would rather spend $57 to play Olivas or Rustic Canyon. But if you get a 6:15am tee time and finish in just under 4 hours, its not too bad. They just aerated the fairways so there are plugs everywhere. The wind was howling this morning!! So it made some of the holes more difficult then they should be, overall the traps and greens are in good shape. But you won't catch me here for awhile..

Played the course on 3/21/08. They are aeriating the fairways right up to the greens. You will get no roll or forward kick if your ball lands short of the green. Lots of standing water and muddy areas throughout the course. There were a lot of bare dirt areas around the greens which made chipping difficult. The course is not in good shape

Though Cam Springs is still a bit too expensive for what it is, I had a better time here today than I've had in a while. ($57 riding on Fridays...a little much...) Aside from a couple of fairways that were a little too damp in spots, the course is looking better than it has in a long time. The fringes were already aeriated and looking a little rough but overall the greens were awesome. Pace of play was good, staff and other golfers were all pleasant. I suppose it could've been the weather and they day, but it was a really good time!

Things are changing here. The fairways are in better condition right now than any time in years. Greens bumpy. Rough mowed and pretty good. The greenside fringe is having some sort of maintenence on-going and is a disaster right now. Overall much better than typical Camarillo Springs conditions. The fairways were a really pleasent surprise.

Played Camarillo Springs on Saturday 10/6/07. Beautiful day for golf. I like this layout. Front nine is more interesting than back nine. Course is a fair test for all skill levels. the course was in reasonably good condition, though the fairways were a little spotty.

I played Camarillo Springs for the first time on Sunday (9/9). I was impressed with the design of the course and the condition of the greens. Our group finished in 4.5 hours, but that may be due to our 7:00 am start. We waited on a few holes, but typical of public courses on the weekends. The group in front of us got a little behinid (they were hitting from the wrong tees based on observed ability) and the marshall asked them to pick up play (which they did). Good job. I know that there have been some previous comments about the golf carts, but it appears that they are all new, so maybe someone is paying attention to our comments???? The greens are really in good condition, and I am a sucker for good greens. However, the fairways are another thing. It is so thick (in the middle of the fairway no less) that I felt as though I had to hit down on the ball as though I was playing out of the rough. In discussing this with my playing partners they stated that the course cannot mow the fairways low because of the underground springs. If they can't, then I guess then we just have to adapt to the conditions. The tee boxes were uneven on almost every hole. How tough can that be to repair? Every review mentions this as a real problem (along with the former condition of the golf carts) so why not take care of the problem? I loved the par 5s and they really make you think about going for it in 2. There was no beverage cart on the course, a real drag when you throat is dry and your stomach is growling. Clubhouse is not available until the 12th hole. Speaking of the clubhouse, it needs some serious attention, especailly in light of the other facilities in the area. Everything looked really old and not very inviting. Overall, I'd play this course again, but not regularly. There are just too many other courses in the area for the same price that provide a better experience.

Played on 7/14/07, tried to walk on as a single around 11:30am at Olivas = packed, tried Buenaventura = packed, River Ridge = beyond packed. Called Camarillo Springs and they said they were open for the rest of the day. That was the most positive thing about this course. Since Olivas has re-opened everyone is trying to get on and play the new track. For $55, don't think it's worth playing Camarillo Springs. I wish they would bring down their fees because for what they charge they should be able to purchase new carts. Haven't played this course in 4 years, and heard they had made some changes; No. 12 Par 3 (a bit better than before), added black tees (saw those tee boxes... not that impressive as far as being "new.") Some tee boxes were a little uneven; The fairways were holding out okay and the greens were decent at best. I had a 2 foot putt on No. 15 and missed the putt due to there being a huge bump from the filler of the old hole right in front of the cup. The greenskeepers need to learn how to flatten the patches. It's a decent layout and the wind kicks up making it a factor (not as much as the other afore mentioned courses.) Another complaint, if you're going to charge $55, don't allow fivesomes out, as a matter of fact, the twosome I was with pointed out an actual sixsome on an adjacent hole. There's no need to put more than 4 people in a group on this course. And if you are going to charge $55, invest some of that into new carts, better greenskeepers, how about an upgrade on the clubhouse, oh, and most important, how about some yardage markers on the fairways (sprinklers)? Hard to choose what to hit when there's no real knowledge of distance. The staff was pleasant. Enjoyed playing this course, but not as much as other courses in the area.

I too played on 7/9/07. Just after 3PM behind a 5-some. Every par 3 had 2 groups waiting to tee off. Course is in good shape but slow pace of play takes the fun out of it. I quit after the 10th hole because it was just too slow. Seriously, 3.5 hours to play 10 holes is just not right.

Played twilight Sunday 7-9. Started at little after 3 and ended about 8:30. They allow fivesomes and there was a group of 5 guys in front us whp should not have been playing the blue tees based on the performances we saw. At the 3rd tee there was three groups waiting to hit. I thought is was a golf convention. It was getting pretty dark by time we were at the 18th and the mosquitoes were coming out in major force. They were freaking us out so bad we were in a hurry to leave, I left my 60 degree wedge and no one turned it in which sucks. Other than that the course itself was in great shape.

The course was in decent shape but it played extremely slow. It is chalked full of older golfers and the marshall is also elderly. He does not do his job of keeping the speed of play up. All in all, a good day of golf ruined by a 5+ hour round.

Our periodic visit was a pleasent surprise today. It appears as though some of the long standing issues this course has faced over the years are being addressed. Many of the historically thin turf areas are showing new sod. I hope the turnaround continues and the momentum builds.
The springs is showing some life and might be worth another visit if it has been a while for you.

Played this course about a year ago and really liked it. It is in horrible condition right now. The greens were slow and bumpy. The areas around many of the greens comprise mostly of dirt/mud and some grass. The fairways were in pretty bad shape as well. Nice layout but the condition of the course killed the round. I played Aliso Viejo the next day which is in very good condition despite only having 14 holes. It made Camarillo Springs look like a poorly kept city course. For $55, there are many other courses that provide better bang for your buck.

I usually avoid this course like the plague as it's famous for 5 1/2 hour weekday rounds stuck behind fivesomes of seniors (no offense). But it looks as if Camarillo is actually trying to improve. They are adopting a proper dress code (proper shirt and shorts, no jeans) and are tryng to get people to play in 4 1/2 hours. They have re-designed a hole (#12?) since I was there last. What used to be a somewhat short par 3 is now a 200+ yard monster over water from the back. The black tees were not there when I played last, and they are a nice addition and help give the course some needed length. They greens were in good shape and show no scars of aeration, they're just set at Senior speed like Westlake. They are also very bumpy and getting a smooth roll is difficult if not impossible. The tee boxes and fairways were cut too long, and played more like the rough than a tee. I was out really early, so I don't know how the pace of play is during the day. It's an interesting layout. If they chose to speed it up and firm it up a little, it could be a great track.

It's a shame that this course is in bad shape because it is really a great layout. I love courses with 5 par 5's. Camarillo has some great par 5's and some really tough par 3's. 4 out of their 5 par 3's are at least 210 yards long from the back tees. Our group played the new back tees which makes this course even tougher.

Downside to this course are the conditions. Unlevel tee boxes. They actually had a tee box on a slanted hill on the par 5 7th hole(what is that all about). Fairways were in poor shape, although on some fairways you can tell that they are trying to grow some new grass. The greens were very slow and were bumpy with balls fish tailing.

This course gets ruined by golf carts. What they should do is close the course down for a couple of years, then only allow walkers.

Played on Sunday, 3/25. Dewsweeper so we played fast with no wait at all! I had not been back here in 3 or 4 years and found the course to be in much better condition than I remember. Typical muni fairways (bare spots, unrepaired divots) and tee boxes (unlevel in places). But, the condition of the greens (especially on the front 9) were fantastic! They ran a little slow for my taste but they were healthy and the players are repairing their ball marks for the most part, anyway! I would go back just for those greens even though the $55 weekend rate is a little steep for a muni. Compared to the horrible greens at Black Gold in Yorba Linda, these greens are competition ready and fun to aim at!

Played Saturday 2/10 at about 9:20. Staff was very nice, gave us a good eta of when we would get out so we could putt, go to the range, etc.

Its winter so the course wasn't in fantastic shape, but it was still very good for this time of year. Some of the fairways were brown, but they weren't bare or muddy...all the grass was there. Rough could use some improvement, as tree roots and fallen branches often got in the way. Sand was in very good condition, not too wet, not too dry, no hard rocks.

One thing that was a little frustrating. The greens had JUST been sanded. Literally, the day before or that morning. It took a while to get used to, the greens were pretty fast last time we played there, so they were obviously a bit slower. Still, the balls rolled pretty true, greens were still smooth. But a rate cut would have been nice, or at least a heads up when we made the tee time that the greens would be sanded.

Marshall kept things moving pretty nicely. There was a pretty slow group two groups ahead of us that kept things slow for a few holes, but still a 4:15 round is pretty good at the time we played.

Will definately keep CS in the rotation. Not a huge fan of paying $55 when I could pay a little more for a nicer course, or a little less for a course just as nice, but because it's relatively easy to get on, the staff is usually nice, and its never in horrible condition, I'll come back

Tee'd off at 11:20 am today. The greens were in great shape, nice and smooth. Fairways were a little on the thin side with alot of mudspots.
Other than that the lunch specials at the snack shop were pretty good.
This is a pretty decent course to play if there's no wind, usually some holes have gusty strong winds.

Decent course. Played, 1/14, 9:00. Greens and traps in great condition. Fairway and rough could use some work.

No one hole is really tough, but as a course, it provides some challenge. lots of Greenside bunkers, lots of water, some hilly terain leaves lots of un-even lies.

No marshalls. No Cart-person. people in snack bar were very slow.

Pace was pretty smooth. I actually felt the starter could have gotten more people out. We only had 3, and ould have been happy to take on another.

I played horrific, but still had a good time.

Would play again...if it wasn't $55. What a joke. Next time, I'll spend a little extra and play a course with more amenities with a little bit nicer layout.

Played 12/30. The greens were in bad shape. The biggest problem on this course is the lack of a marshal. The employees aren't friendly but do their jobs. There were three groups waiting to tee off on the first 6 holes. Things finally cleared up after about 8 or 9 holes to where there was no waiting.

Spontaneously walked on last Friday [December 15th] afternoon, $21 to walk. The value is there for that rate- especially relative to other courses in the area. Most of the fairways yield good lies and the rough is typical CS: more difficult than River Ridge, not as tough as [no] BuenaVentura. Right now, the ‘marsh’ conditions are not there. Afternoon greens were shaggy and a bit bumpy but again, relatively good considering.
My wish: CS needs some marshals. I can tolerate a lot, but the pace of play at CS is so poorly monitored it is a reason to stay away – at least in the afternoon. It’s the typical stuff – get groups to play as close to ready golf as possible, especially if they fall more than 1 hole behind. The last 2 times I’ve played CS, marshalling simply is not on management’s radar.

Played on 10/21 Waiting for something to happen here. Tee boxes etc. Fairways 13-18 were wet and cart path only. So fairways were like hitting out of rough since they haven't been mowed. No discount on cart price. Won't be playing this course until something changes. Very dissapointed for a nice local course. Staff is very friendly though.

Once again the group gave "The Springs" a try, once again severe disappointment. We have such high hopes for a turn around here....Isn't the definition of insanity when one repeats the exact same action expecting a different result? We must be insane, but the location and the layout bring us back and the shabby condition of the entire operation drives us away....I wouldn't play here again for at least 4-6 months (assuming something might change in that time frame) even if it were free.

It's a shame not to be able to play a course in the city you live in. Fairways bear, cut grass everywhere, bumpy greens, lots of unrepaired divots. Can't blame the course for all the poor conditions but most of them could be fixed by the management.

Played the afternoon of 7/26. What a disappointment...where to start? The greens were bumpy-uneven cuts and a lot of unrepaired ball marks. Even some of the hole plugs were not evenly replaced and were burned. The fairways were in poor condition and there was a lot of cut grass lying about everywhere. Bare spots, burned spots, piles of cut grass, uneven mowing, etc. made the day a challenge to say the least. Worst conditions I've seen in some time.

Course is a little dry. The pace was great playing on a Thursday afternoon completing the round in just under 4 hrs. Even with a foursome of idiots who were 2 holes ahead of us and backing up play of 4 groups, we still managed to keep a good pace after we passed them. I was mad that these guys weren't kicked off the course.

The back nine has much better conditions than the front nine with the exception of some construction/hazard areas. This is a nice course to play for the green fee.

Played Camarillo Springs Sunday, 6/3 as an alternative to playing De Bell on a scorching weekend. It's generally at least 10 degrees cooler than the LA area when you get down the grade to the Oxnard plain and on to Ventura. There was also a breeze that factored into the shots, particularly the back nine, but nothing extreme and it kept the temperature reasonably comfortable. Down there on the plain, it can get windy enough for it to be a factor.

I think the best part of the course is the 2nd through 6th holes. You go through a gap in the hills after the first hole and find yourself in a sort of outback area, out of sight of the freeway and most signs of civilization, and tucked up by edge of the looming hillside. The holes loop around a couple of water hazards and it's a nice peaceful stretch with each hole having it's own personality.

When you come back through the gap, I think the rest of the course is OK, but fairly pedestrian. Ten is a quirky par five with something of a blind approach. Holes 11 through 18 are generally pretty flat but water comes into play on several of them to make it more interesting. More par 4s there seem to be on the short side rather than long. There are a few interesting par threes throughout

Greens were the fast side of medium speed, but not truely quick. They were in pretty good shape though, as was the course in general.

For what it is, I tend to think it's a tad overpriced and probably not as interesting or challenging as the less expensive Los Robles up the road. But at $55 with cart, neither was it exhorbitant.

Not my one of my favorites and I don't play it too often, but neither is it a bad course and on a hot Sunday it was a welcome change of pace.

Speaking of pace, it was on the slow but generally steady side. Perhaps one true delay and probably about a five hour round. No death march, but by about the 15th hole, it did seem like we had been out there for a while.

The service seemed competent and we saw the cart girl about three times during the round as I recall.

Can't beat the weekday twilight rate. Good challenging course, the rough plays a lot deeper than it looks even if your ball has a good lie. Lots of water around especially after the recent rains but the course and many of the fairways are in absolutely fantastic condition. There were some bare spots on the first few holes that are being worked on. The greens were good, a couple needed a trim and a couple short holes had a lot of ball marks but most were in great shape. I can't wait to play another round here.

the feedback on camarillo springs motivated me to check it out. been playing for 2+ years and cs is one of the courses i learned [hacked] on from the beginning. walked the back 11 on mar 23rd. agree the conditions are best ever. greens are shorn nicely and [have always] run true - excellent that by #10, they were already mowed. the rough was cut lower than i've seen it - assume this was done for anticipated heavy spring play. the fairways were simply great. personally enjoy the layout, elevated tees/greens, water, etc - if you are looking for something to complain about, certain to find it - i feel cs is a good place to play.

Bacmac , was that a joke, fairways on #1, #7 and #18 are awful. Greens were in the best shape that I have ever seen them. Played last Sat (3/18). Do not expect to get off to a great round in the afternoon on this course. First 5-6 holes are the most challenging/ dangerous part of the course along with hole #11. Guys in the pro-shop are cool. Good overall layout.

I've been playing the course for about ten years and the greens are the best they've ever been: fast and true, and even more so in the morning. The course can be wet in some areas in the morning, but hence the name Camarillo Springs. Most fairways are in great shape right now with the exception of 2 or 3, which continue to improve. Unfortunately a few tee boxes are unlevel but many are currently being redone. The new black tees make for a completely different golf course. Some of the views (such as number 3) from the blacks are awesome. Once they are finished don't plan on shooting a low round easily, especially in the afternoon. Hole 12 (the par 3) was just built and the old hole is now a nice wedge practice area. Easily worth the green fee.

Wow! I have been playing golf for almost 50 years and I have never seen worse fairways! Whomever is in charge should be fired! The greens are very nice, but the course is be desparate need of some TLC.

After hearing all of the bad comments about the course I wasn't to sure of what to think about the course. Having played it before, I knew what to expect about the layout but no clue about how the conditions were going to be. I had set up a group of 12 people to play and they set us up as a tournament in advance of the one week reservation period which was nice, and it was the only course that would get a group of our size out before 11:30 which was a plus. Upon arriving at the course the staff was very friendly and gave everyone in the group a bucket of balls and got us out on time for our first tee time at 6:45. The course was in great shape and except for a couple of unlevel tee boxes I don't know what all the complaints are about. The course isn't going to be on the same playing fields as a Moorpark or Lost Canyons(you get what you pay for), but everyone in the group thought it was a fun layout and in good condition. I will definately be playing the course again in the near future when I don't want to pay the rates that they are charging for the nicer courses and don't want the headache of playing in the Valley.

sand bunkers very thin, most tee boxes not level, very wet on some holes due to over watering, sprinklers on in a.m. tee times. always windy in early afternoon.

Wind can be a huge factor on this course. When it gets windy (and is usually does), the course is not worth playing. It has some decent views, but none good enough to overcome the poor shape the course is in. Some parts of the fairway were very mushy, and it was like hitting out of applesauce. Other parts were very dried out. The traps had very little sand, and the greens were decent at best. A highly mediocre course.

Our group must enjoy being abused, we continue to try Camarillo Springs over and over again in hopes that a turn around of the generally poor course cnditions will occur. Once again we were disappointed and very little if anything has changed here. The one exception however is the greens, which are actually in quite good shape. If you are looking for a course in nice condition, look elsewhere, we are.

Great layout with some fun holes. Overall needs some serious attention to maintenance and conditioning. The fairways were in rough shape and the tee boxes were very uneven. Greens were in decent shape. We had a tee time of 8:04 am on Sunday morning and got out around 8:45. Very slow pace. Waited on all but 2 holes.

Typical American Golf golf course. Rake in as much money as possible without investing it back into the course. Rather than adding asthetics (i.e. new bridges) try making the fairways grow GREEN without having 10 types of grass on it. Or how about tee boxes with GRASS on it. The dead fish floating in the lakes is a great touch.

Call us foolish, we continue to try Camarillo Springs every few months, the great layout and the great summer temps are mostly what brings us back, and we are continually saddened at the overall lack of maintenence and general condition of the course. It is such a shame that the ownership of this track can't see the untapped potential if only they would put the time and effort into the maintenence of the course. There was some efforts made months back in new tee boxes and more recently it looks like they decided to reconfigure hole # 12 which has likely ben the focus for some time, it looks like the project is nearly completed, you are playing temp tees and the entirety of the hole is a construction zone presently. Also, new "bridges" are in progress at some locations for cart traffic over the drainage swails. But on the other hand, the tees are way out of level and embarrasingly thin, the greens are covered in ball marks, the cups had not been recut in I would guess three days and now resembled ragged bowls rather than cups, many bunkers still show runoff damage from the heavy winter rains (when was that over, four months ago?) The rough was cut recently and now felt like you were playing in a freshly mowed alfalfa field. Someday, someone will see the potential here and make a course out of this sorry situation, until that happens we would reccommend you play elsewhere. :(

Played on June 16.
I like hitting off of grass at the range, unfortunately there was very little grass to be found so wound up hitting off of dirt. They should definitely move the lines around more.

T boxes were mostly worn and uneven with some yellowing of the grass.
The fairways were also green/yellow, but as long as you made the middle they were pretty firm except on the back where things got soggy.
There is construction of what appears to be a dirt bike course next to 12 which has turned what was a 150-170 yd par 3 into a tiny stump of a hole. No signage, but I guess it's about 80 yards to the pin now. On the bright side, all you need is your putter for this hole.
The two worst things about this palce are the greens and the lakes. The greens are literally covered in ball marks like a teenager with acne. My friends putt on 16 changed direction twice on the way to the hole due to ball marks. There are so many you can't fix them all. I should have been riding a steam roller instead of a cart.
The lakes are so filled with algae they look like sunken greens. Maybe if they moved some of the algae up to the range we'd have something to hit off of.

The setting is nice and the smell of fertilizer is gone, but this place needs some serious maintenance.

I hadn't playedhere since 1999. The course was very "scruffy' with patches of very very deep uncut rough and "fairway" and areas of "no grass or very thin lies" The greens were decent however. Not a bad layout, with some nice vistas, but the course needs some TLC.

I played the Camarillo Springs golf course Thursday 5/28th. Fun layout, nice greens, but the rest of course was a disappointment. The first thing they need to do is get some help in the snack shop/restaurant because it’s ridiculous to have to wait that long in line and for your food. The second this is getting some sand for bunkers. For how often sand comes into play, and to have the bunkers be that poorly maintained, is a shame. How hard can it be to at least turn the sand once month??? I think the course has a ton of potential. 2-6 is a great stretch of holes. However I would never pay the weekend green fee to play there. I would rather spend a little more and play Sterling Hills or any of the courses in Moorpark.

I thought is was a pretty nice course, not great, but not bad at all. Very good condition, very nice greens actually, and nice views throughout. Felt like a Palm Springs course. Fairly flat and 'bombs away' off the tees. However, when compared to playing Moorpark CC the next day - at a twilight fee equivalent to the fees here - it doesn't stack up. They charge the same fee to walk or ride, too !! This is a nice course and I'll play it again, but if the (weekend) fees were about $10-15 cheaper, it'd be easier to recommend.

The Course really has not changed much in the last couple of years even with the change of ownership. The fairways still clumpy in most areas and a lot of areas near the mountain side with standing water into the fairways. The only good I could see were the greens and they were in excellent shape. It took a little over 5 hours to play on a Sunday as they still allow fivesomes to go out. I would rate this course fair at best.

This course is on the road to great improvment. New owner of past 2 years is putting money into the course. The new 12 was just sodded and looks like a great hole in the works. All the rain has been great for the course, it should be a good year to play. I look forward to the
black tees being complete in a few years, maybee 7000 yards!

Played there on Saturday 1/15. The course is in extremely poor condition as water has not drained very well from recent rain. Very muddy at many places. I would recommend that people look elsewhere to play until the course is repaired. Also, the course plays extremely slow. The wait at just about every hole was 15+ minutes.

Played Camarillo Springs Sunday 10/10/04. Although the weather condition was great and the course, fair, I was disappointed in the Tee Boxes! Many of the Tee Boxes were severly unbalanced and untrue for a full swing. They need to be re-leveled. Other than that, it was okay to play.

The roller coaster of course conditions continues at Camarillo Springs, after many visits where our group was pleasantly surprised as conditions were really improving it seems as though things are going south quickly of late. Greens are okay, Fairways, rough and overall condition seems to be quite rough, lots of damage and bare spots. Maybe it's a tough season or the type of grass? Who knows, but "The Springs" sure has seen better days, you might want to wait and play another day. :(

I played this course about 5 years ago and vowed once I walked off 18 that I would never return. I should have kept my promise. Tee boxes were a joke...either sloped, covered in divots or fluffy grass, similar to the rough. Greens were bumpy - like playing Plinko on The Price is Right. Fairways were OK, but lots of brown spots. Sand traps are reminiscent of the cart paths (if the lip isn't too severe, the putter is a good bet). There are much better tracks around here for the same price.

Played the dawn patrol back 11 on Sunday with my son (he's a new golfer) and I noticed the tee boxes are getting a bit rough.

Kukuya grass looks tough, but it has a shallow root structure and tears our under stretss. So it really doesn't handle heavy traffic all that well. Kukuya grows in stolons so is spreads as it regenerates, but struggles to keep up under high foot traffic in small tee boxes.

Like many older courses, many of the tee boxes aren't big enough to offer enough variance in player position to keep the tee boxes from wearing out. The new owners of the course have added some new tee areas, but they are mostly "black tees" and tend to be narrow areas , again limiting options of where to stand.

Fairways seemed fine but the Kukuya rough was very deep and with morning dew made them that much tougher to deal with.

Turf on the greens seemed very healthy (especially if you've played Los Robles lately) but after a long summer day of heavy play on Saturday, they needed mowing to be smoother.

The Springs is a nice course for those new to golf or high handicappers. It has lots of room to hit towards off the tee on most holes (although fair amount of water on the course although little of it comes into play). Not too many trees so you almost always have a decent second shot.

Greens are the most consistent part of this course-even in the dead of winter. They are fairly slow and have very little break making putting easier for newbies.

I have not played here in years, but my club is going to have an event here so I came back to check it out. Played early Friday morning as a single, think I was the third off and got around in 2 3/4 hours - played through one two some. My comments on the course:

Greens put very true - in great shape, just slower than Rustic, Sterling, Tierra. Once you get used to them they are as good any any around. You can just shoot at the sticks and they hold. They appear to be working on the T-boxes which were OK, should improve when the grass comes up through the seedings. They also appear to be putting more water on the course from years ago and the fairways are OK, some brown spots, not bad. The course plays longer than the card because of the kukuyu grass prevents any roll off the fairway. Overall it is MUCH improved from past years. Staff was friendly and the grounds keepers on the course stop and let you play through respectfully. Overall not a bad track for the money. Had a good time and will come back.

As we were waiting on the 3rd tee with the two groups in front of us, we saw a lady drive her cart ONTO the 3rd green. Just drove it right up to her ball. Unbelievable.

Course conditions are about typical for Camarillo Springs. Some effort in trying to improve the course and conditions are noticable in some areas, tees and fairways are in better shape than has been the case for some time, but greens are very bumpy and showing lots of odd coloration, probably a sign of bad things to come...sand traps are for the most part hard and dirt filled. Fee is better than most others around and so just plan on getting what you pay for and you won't be disappointed.

Probably in the best shape that I've seen in many, many years. Fairways were always one of the weakest aspects of the overall condition of this course, now they are in reasonably good shape, good lies are more common than not, remembering that this was just the opposite in the recent past, management and G.C. Supe should be proud of the effort they have put into this track, it's starting to really show. The guys we were paired with mirrored this setiment and were quite excited to see "The Springs" in such good shape after having been run down for so, so long. Congrats to Mgmt, keep it up!

It was REALLY windy when we played, but all in all the course was in surprisingly good shape.
The greens are great. Not the fastest around but really playable.
It's still an unnecessarily slow round of golf, with "playing through" and "ready golf" still an alien concept to most of the regular clientele.
All things considered, a fun day and definitely worth the green fee.

"The Springs" has always been a great layout, cooler summer days, ocean breezes soft greens... American Golf ran this place down over the years and the new ownership really jumped on the course conditions and a very noteable improvement was obvious at first. Lately though, it seems as though it again might be lacking in attention to maitenence. Played today $52.00 cart included, Fairways fine, greens good, tees a disaster, traps poor. Quite disappointed overall. Hopefully the momentum the new owners had will be found again. This is a great layout and certainly not anywhere near its potential. Word of mouth will make or break any course.

Several comments have mentioned the smell on the 5 holes "over the hill." I believe that there is a sewage treatment plant next to the course there, so don't expect much improvement. Generally, when there is a good breeze blowing, you can't smell anything.

Also, I noticed that the rough has returned to its old, shorter, condition.

About 7 years ago, I swore I'd never go back to CS. I walked off after an hour and a half - I had just reached the 2nd green at that point behind numerous FIVESOMES! (there were 4 groups waiting to tee off at no. 2) Well, I reneged on that oath because my son, after passing by the course a million times on the way to River Ridge, always begged to play. Now, he and I have both renewed our oath to not go back. Not because of slow play (this time), but because of the condition of the kukuyu infested dump with standing water everywhere, muddy tire tracks (it hasn't rained in at least a couple months) and even patches of kukuyu on the greens! At least one of the par 3 tee boxes had NO grass - I mean NONE! And another was kukuyu that wasn't mowed. Having to hit a tee shot from what is essentially kukuyu rough is ridiculous. And the smell! Geez, what IS that smell?! In my opinion, the place is a dump. It certainly isn't worth the money they charged. Oh yea, I forgot to mention - they also don't give discounts to juniors. They won't be getting any more of my money. I wouldn't go there again at half the price.

I just played this course a couple weeks ago and I must say that I was greatly disappointed. There was water in a bunker, tee boxes are chewed up, it took forever, and fellow players were inconsiderate, profane, and snobby. Plus it costed 50 dollars to walk. Same price as a cart. This is madness and I won't be going back for a long time. Neither will the party I was with.

Played at 3:05 on 5/29. First time I've played the course in quite awhile and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The course is in much better shape than it was the last several times I played. It took a little over 5 hours to play the round, so that was a negative, but I would say that I may get out to this course a little more often if the upkeep remains at the level that it is at now.

Played 36 holes on 5/17. Morning round (7:30 AM) was 4 1/2 hours, and afternoon (12:15 PM) was 5 hours. Not too bad, but I noticed that they are sending off groups every 7 minutes, and they still allow 5-somes. This is not conducive to fast play. Couse is in pretty good shape, although there was standing water in a bunker on the 5th.

The greens have recovered nicely. You can barely tell they were aerated 3 weeks ago. The greens were a little inconsistent hole to hole however in terms of firmness and speed. Probably due to recovering from aeration. For the most part the course was in very good shape and I would reccomend playing Camarillo if you don't mind slightly slow play. This course has a lot of character and is pleasing to the eye. I was dissappointed with the following conditions, however; 1. Driving range net damage makes #12 a mess and dangerous. 2. Saw the marshall, excuse me ambassador, once. Maybe that's why I couldn't speed up my own group which admittedly was slowing down play behind us. 3. Several of the pins (3-4) evidently had not been moved for so long that the grass was growing into the cup aprox. 1/4 of an inch reducing the size of the hole and just giving an unsightly target. All in all I would reccomend this course and I think it is a good value just be preparred for a slow round.

HEY, AMERICAN GOLF DOES A LOT OF THINGS RIGHT, BUT THIS INSISTENCE TO SEND OUT FIVESOMES IS REALLY IRKSOME. I HAD A TALK WITH ONE OF THE "AMBASSADORS" WHO INSISTED THAT 5SOMES CAN PLAY AS QUICKLY AS 4SOMES (THAT MUST BE THE PARTY LINE FOR THIS COMPANY) I TOLD HIM IF THAT WAS THE CASE 3 COULD PLAY AS FAST AS ONE ETC. NO LOGIC HERE. JUST GREED I FEAR.

I played this course on December 27, and the fairways have recovered. It did take around 4.5 to 5 hours to finish. It was friday and they charged the holiday price which was not fair. I enjoyed the course though and the tee boxes were the weakness of this course.

I played the course this weekend only because I was invited. I don’t normally play Camarillo Springs on the weekend because I like to walk and they make you ride on the weekends. Anyway, we teed off around 12:30 and didn’t even come close to finishing!!! (Maybe this was because we were jammed behind a fivesome!) Needless to say I was very disappointed. The course was in good shape so I’m sure I’ll end up going back. It just won’t be on a weekend!
