Greens were lush and VERY quick to be so soft. Tee boxes were being reseeded and looked nice. The fairways were above average for Los Robles. We walked from the tips in 4 1/2 hours at twilight and finished with at least 15 minutes of daylight left. Trees have been trimmed and they have put alot of effort into maintaining the areas around the trees and cleaning up the areas around hazards etc.

Played twilight this afternoon Mon 11/17 with a buddy, his friend and Nickesquire1. Greens were very nice and were probably rolling a little faster due to being baked the last several days by the wind. They were true and fairly quick. Stay below the pin here at Los Robles on #4, #12 and #13. The fairways seemed dry and decent by Robles standards. There were some wet and muddy spots in fairways, some tight lies and also some decent lies. The rough around the fairway here is not to penalizing. I could not report on the bunkers. The tee boxes need work(leveling) on certain holes(especially some of the par 3's). The wind was not much of a factor today and the pace of play was decent. Our foursome finished in 4 hours 15 minutes walking the tips. The back nine here is a great challenge from the tips(#10,#11,#15,#17 and #18 are challenging holes) which I love playing. You need to hit your tee shot straight here at Robles for the first 20-30 yds as many of the holes are tree-lined right by the tee box. The staff inside the pro-shop were very friendly today. They did run out of range balls today.

Played on Monday 9-15. For a long time I was annoyed with this course and the way it was run but I have to say (during the week anyway) it's growing on me. Great pace of play. Fairways and greens in decent shape. No problem finding a jug of water or the cart girl. Starter was a friendly guy as well as each marshall I saw.

Played the front 9 at dawn this morning. Course was in great shape, with the greens rolling true and quick. Paired with a couple regulars, this was an enjoyable track, mostly a parkland style course. Great value, easy to walk/carry.

Played the course on 8/15/08 in the morning. The course is in good shape overall. Bunker sand is thin on top and hard packed under that so you have to be careful when executing your shot. Greens were in great shape. Cart girl came around 3 or 4 times during the round and the staff provided excellent service. When we called to ask for a marshall to speed up the pace of play for the group ahead of us, they immediately sent the marshall out and we did not have to wait on the group for the rest of the round. Bonus: If you take an online survey you can get a $5 off coupon to use for your next round.

Played last Friday. LR is looking decent these days and pace of play is good during the week, but IMHO there are nicer courses in the same price range . Plus, my foursome couldn't get the cartgirl's attention without setting fire to ourselves. Still won't go near this place on the weekend what with the fivesomes and the regular half hour wait on the par 3 #6. Apologies (again) to the nice foursome in front of us for when I skulled my approach shot and drilled 30 yards past the green right into the next tee box they were about to hit from.

This golf course is awesome, my buddies dragged me out to Westlake last weekend the golf course was a dump, they make you ride and it was more expensive than Los Robles. $41.00 to walk on the weekend is a steal! You will not find a golf course in this are in better condition with better service I guarantee! I saw marshals on the course for the first time in a long time, that was great to see! Apparently they is a new program to speed up pace of play the guy was telling me, pace of play was Los Robles's only down fall, if they fix that, there will be zero reason to pkay anywhere else. Great golf course in great condition, great clubhouse, great service... Can't beat it!

Played twilight Monday 6/30. Fairways are in the best shape that I can remember and I have been playing this course for years(very lush). Sand Traps were great on hole #3, but #11 was rock hard...so i guess traps are inconsistent from hole to hole. The greens looked nice but did not putt consistent at all. Very bumpy poa annua and a challenge to putt. We finished our round in 3 hours 55 minutes riding which is not bad for this place and probably could have finished in 3 hours 30 minutes if we did not catch a group on #8 and #9 as we played the front nine first. Back nine here(our first nine this afternoon) is a good test of golf.

Played Saturday 6/28/08 . Course is in great condition. Teeboxes were in good shape, Fairways were fairly lush, and the fairway bunkers were soft especially on 18... Greens were in good shape, fairly slow though.. Course is in good shape since I last played here a few months ago.. Worth the green fee!! $41 to walk on a saturday!!

Played early today. Course is in great condition. Teeboxes were nice and level some bare spots. Fairways were nice and green. Traps were okay... little on hard side. Rough was a okay. Some areas you can punch out, but on others... forget it... Greens were nice. Some good pinplacements made it fun and challenging. Overall, great place. Wish I had a better round, but oh well.

Hard to believe I've lived here and played golf for almost 40 years...and I never played Los Robles. I gotta say, it was a treat. Good design, big oaks (very pretty course!!) Played a 5-hour round on a Saturday....but the course was so fun, I didn't care! I have to agree about the tight-lies...not as lush as I might like....but for the price...sheesh...I'll be back fopr sure!! Greens were lumpy and not very smooth....but seemed to roll true and were readable. Current rating on GK ("Good") is about right. Nothing spectacular...but a good place to keep your game from getting rusty. I had more pars than not - - but the holes that were not pars were really NOT pars...they were doubles and even one triple bogies! The trees are mature and everywhere!!!

Played Twilight 5/13 - greens are in good shape, firm and fast. Can be hard to stop the ball on the green. Fairways are pretty thin in alot of areas, hard to hit off, but the ball keeps rolling. This course definatly has some fun holes, and some tough holes as well. Overall a fun play, although they didnt want to give me a tee time as a single when I called @ 10 am. I got the obligutory "Come on out, we will get you on" which in all fairness they did, 3rd twilight tee time.

These greens are reasonably fast considering they appear to be mostly spongy poa annua. Most I play with usually run putts by the first few holes until they realize they are faster than they may seem @ first glance. You definitely don't want to get above the pin on holes like 4, 12, 13 or 18 or you will experience how fast they are as your ball is picking up speed as it goes by the hole farther and farther.

The tees are well maintained, although a few could use a good 6" to 12" of additional turf built up on one or both sides for leveling purposes. Humpback greens I can understand, but humpback tees? The fairways are better than average for this area and the traps were generally well maintained. Considering it's a high play municipal course, the conditions are better than you may expect, especially for the price.

Played on 4/25/08. The course is in fair shape. They are punching a few of the fairways, so there are those hole plugs scattered throughout those fairways which will limit the amount of roll. The greens are in good shape.
I think they have trimmed back some of the large tree branches near the tee boxes. Our tee time was 7:40AM and we started off on the back nine for some reason, but it did not affect pace of play or cause any delays at the turn. Staff is friendly and courteous, and the cart girl came around 3 times during our round. I recommend eating lunch at the clubhouse restaurant where the food and service is excellent.

I play mostly at country clubs in the area with friends whom are members, when I do play a public course I always check out this site. i love it because it gives me an idea of what to expect of the course I am about to play. That being said I do not post many comments. I feel obligated to for Los Robles. What a pleasure to play this course, everytime I play here I am treated like I am a member of a country club and the course is in great shape. How can you beat that? Well they do by doing it for nothing! It is so cheap to play here compared to Tierra, Moorpark, Sterling Olivas etc and better in every way! Figure that one out! I just found out that they offer all you can hit range balls for $25.00 a month with $15.00 green fee and cart fees, I felt like I was stealing! I highly recommend this course over anything in Ventura county, I love the staff they make it fun to be there, Oh ya I almost forgot about the beverage cart, they have a gas powered blender mounted to the front of the beverage cart! It is awesome, just another way these guys make the golf experience leaps and bounds above the rest. I already have one friend leaving his country club because of this place and I am sure a few of the others will follow.

Well, can say I didn't know.. GK said they were aerating the greens and they were, so can say anything nice about that.. It did help pace of play, everyone in TO knew about the greens so they stayed away!! Generally speaking the course is looking pretty good. The maintanence crew does a good job with the fairways, traps and the tee boxes were lush.. Give it about a month for the greens to heal and this place will be alright..

Played Twilight 3/24 with a mom and her 2 pre teen sons. All were much better golfers than you would probably expect, fun round even if non competitive in nature. They all played the red tees and numerous holes one of the kids made bogey. Considering they were 9 & 11, I was really impressed with their ball striking in particular. I comment on their games because many older golfers who have been playing for years will be frowning at my next observation/statement. The 11 year old would hit it in a greenside trap on purpose, and he consistently hit sand save shots that many pros would be satisfied with. He explained matter of factly that he was better out of the sand that at chipping. After about the 4th consecutive excellent sand shot, it was obvious there wasn't much luck involved here. Anyway, on to the course review......

Fairways were hard and the course was playing short, I had my longest drives ever on 2 different holes and I've played this course probably 60-70 times in the last decade. The greens were very smooth by LR standards and held shots well, and were their normal blazing if you got above the hole. The rough & fairway grass was decent.

A new feature they have added in the past year is fairly thick beds of wood chips around many of the mature oak trees. While this may seem like an improvement over hardpan, weeds or rough, (it does look better), it can be a nightmare to try and hit full shots or even recovery punches out of. I've got a nice 2 inch cut on my shin after attempting to punch a 5 iron out of it and having a large jagged wood piece come up and bite me. I know, wouldn't have happened had I hit the fairway.....

I think that they keep this course in great shape considering how much play it gets.

The fairways and greens are in good shape in my opinion, and I didn't notice an excess of ball marks or bumps on the greens.

The staff is friendly and the cart girl is ubiquitous.

The only concern I have is that they pack it full of people and pace of play is an issue. They have a lot of group childrens lessons which is good, but they can monopolize the practice green . It would be nice to limit the amount of tee times and reserve only a portion of the practice green for lessons.

If you're a resident you play for practically nothing, and for $25/month you get unlimited range balls and $15 twilight rounds with a cart.

Played Los Robles on 2/2, day before the Super Bowl. tee time was at 1pm, teed off on time, but had to play behind 2 groups; one was a walking 5 some with 2 shots by all going in all different directions, and another walking group of 4. In hindsight, it didn't really matter since the entire course played slow. If you read other reviews from this day, we all experienced the same problem, and of course, no marshall to be found.

The course itself was in OK shape, no real complains, fairways were in decent shape, level tee boxes, and the greens ran well, and were challenging. We ended up leaving the course on hole 13 at 545 because it was getting too dark and REALLY COLD. Have to love playing 12 holes in almost 5 hours!

I used to play here often when I lived in Newbury Park. Played today and was disappointed. The course was in good condition, but teed off half hour late and took 6 1/2 hours to finish. Never saw a marshall once. For $55 I was hoping for a little better.

Played in the afternoon, 2/2/08. The greens were fast and well maintained, definitely above average and as good as I've seen them on this course. The tee boxes were decent, although a few are unlevel and seem to point in directions that are different than the preferred tee shot. The fairways & rough are a combination of good grass, crab grass and patches of various other things, your lie can vary greatly in any given 3 sq. ft. area even in the middle of the fairway. The only real negative was playing behind the "Brady Bunch", three carts of mom, dad, aunt, uncle and 2 kids. At least three played all 18 and seemingly all 6 hit at least a few shots every hole. Their carts were crossing the fairway back & forth like a swarm of bees as we semi-patiently waited hole after hole. We teed off @ 12:28 and played hole #18 in the dark, over a 5 hour round. Amazingly, they were actually keeping up with the group in front of them, it was just plain SLOW!

Have not played Robles in a while on Sat and now I remember why..played behind a 5some which did not include a junior who seemed to be having fun running around..however course was jammed this afternoon(Sat 2/2) anyway. Took us 5 hours 20 minutes to finish.

Course was in good shape for Robles. Greens true and quick in some spots, fairways decent, latest rain softened fairways up a bit. Tee boxes on certain holes need to be leveled like par 3 11th, par 3 16th(Blacks) to name a few.

Los Robles has come a long way in the past few years! I told myself I would never play there again about four years ago, I was dragged out by some friends recently and WOW! What a turn around. Greens were close to perfect, faiways were plush, Pro Shop service was fantastic! The beverage cart was unbelievable, worth the greens fee right there... I remember the pace of play being terrible and we played in 4:15 on a busy Saturday, impressive! I will not be playing those other courses chaging $60+ to play when there is a course like this for less than $40! Highly recomend it!

Played Xmas morning. Started at about 7:10am and finished at 11:00 a.m. No waiting on any tee or in any fairway. Course was in pretty decent shape. Some tees were a bit not level and some greens a bit bumpy - needed mowing - but excusable since it was XMAS. All in all an enjoyable round.

Played twi-light 12/17. Greens were bumpy, no one in our group had a good putting day. Several pins were obscene, all we could do was laugh as each member of the 4some tried their skill? @ stopping a putt from above the hole on holes #4, 12 & 18. You could literally lip it out and have 10-15 ft. on your next attempt. Tees are the best I have seen them in awhile, the pro shop staff is great and the cart girl is by every hole or so.

Played twilight Monday 12/17. Greens were terrible. Very bumpy..not smooth and impossible to make even a 2 foot putt on. Weird thing was that even being bumpy they also rolled fast(very weird combination there). Fairways have gone a little bit downhill since City Championship in September. Had one of my worst rounds in years but I still come back to this course cause I really enjoy the doglegs, layout and how you have to shape the ball from the back tees. Back 9 is a real test.

Played 12/3 just after noon. Played behind 2 ladies groups that mercifully quit after 9, otherwise we would not have finished. The greens were downright fast and well maintained, they were just beginning to sand them. Tee boxes looked better than previous times, fairways were good, rough so-so, especially with so many leaves and small tree branches blown down by the wind. Easy to lose a ball even in grass that isn't that tall. Cart girl is around probably six times in 18 holes, really cute & on the ball. Customer service was exemplary from the pro shop staff to the starter.

I've already reviewed this course in the past. I like it. Played on 12/4/07 and I've never seen this before. About 5-7 of the greens were recently punched and still had sand on them. It wasn't horrible, but since when did courses punch only part of the course? The rest of the greens were great. Fairways too.

Great place to play on a beautiful, clear and sunny Saturday. Got stuck behind a slow 4-some. Local guys that think they can reach the green, on their second shots, 230 out, ending up taking 3 to get to the green really slows everyone down. Fairways were in good condition. Overall it was enjoyable and reasonably priced.

After a change in management a while back, the difference in the Pro Shop atttude is like night and day for the better. the cart girl is cute and seemingly there every hole. The starters pleasant and helpful.

You HAVE to stay below the hole on greens 4,12 & 13 or a 3-4 putt is a distinct possibility. An extreme right middle pin on 18 produces a putt that you can lip out or even maybe make in the backdoor on the way back down the hill....you hope so, otherwise it's 15 ft. back up the hill.

The mature trees and afternoon wind, in addition to the greens give this course it's teeth and make it tougher to score than the scorecard yardages would indicate.

This was my first time playing Los Robles. I really enjoyed it. The one thing that was difficult was finding the correct tee box. My buddy and I drove to the wrong tee box about 4 times. There needs to be signs up on which way to go. Other than that we had a great time.

I've been avoiding this course for years now, but I finally decided to try it out again. I was pleasantly suprised. The facilities were nice and the course was in very good condition. I had heard a lot of bad things about the greens, but I thought they were in very good condition (although a lot of people still don't repair their ball marks) and they held approaches wonderfully.

I played from the Blues but I would probably play from the Blacks next time. The course is definitely an ego boost if you've been playing more difficult courses in the area (Moorpark CC, Tierra Rejada, Lost Canyon). If you shoot in the 80s there, you'll easily break 80 at Los Robles.

I've never seen Los Robles in as good a shape as it's in right now. They seem to have been working on it. Contours are being grown/cut into fairways, the greens are uniform and true and the fairways are lush kikuya. Some greens are faster than others but all are nicer than I have seen at Los Robles. Great conditions.

Played 7/21/07 at noon as a tournament group member after + 2 years last time played here.Actually maintaining very good conditions tee to greens .Especially greens slope & speed is very interesting fact that you can easily loose your score. And don't get fooled 6200 yards from back tee, there's many doglegs ,ob stakes, elevated greens & branches of strategically located trees defend well the course.Accurate distance shot & appropriate selection of clubs(up & down hills) is must to score well.

Played twilight on Sat 7/7/07. Course was in one of the best conditions that I have seen it in. Greens held irons well and putted quick and true. Fairways were as green and as good as I have seen. They are starting to try and make changes on the fairways(not sure if some of the fairways can ever fully recover). One thing that still has not changed are the unlevel tee boxes. There is also some rough and dry spots around the greens. Pace of play was good for a Sat at Robles. I shot a personal best 70(34 front ,36 back) from the tips making an eagle on #14 and a birdie on #15.

I really enjoy the challenge of the back 9 here at Robles, #10, #11, #15, #17 and #18 are difficult holes as is #16 which can come up and bite you in the butt. Try and get a good score on front and hold on for the back 9. You need to shape your shots here also if you play the back tees.

Played Twi-light Saturday 5/26. Tee-ed off around 2.

Course was in very good condition. Tee Boxes were all very lush and level. course does a very good job. Box full of divot mix canisters on 1st tee, most holes had divots, but golfers do a good job filling divots and maintenance looks like it was rotating location well.

Fairways and rough all lush and green. Again, lots of divots, but 80% were filled with the mix they provide. Very few bare areas.

Greens ran kind of slow, but still smooth. Only downer...FIX YOUR FREAKING BALL MARKS!!!! How hard is it, seriously? If you're good enough to hit the green, you should want to fix your ball mark. Hell, I enjoy fixing my ball marks...it means I did something right!!! I could understand if its a beginer hitting a lucky shot, but there were so many ball marks, it was unbelievable.

Customer service was great. Saw cart girl at least 7 or 8 times. Great pace on front nine, slowed some on the back. Good price for twilight. Easily got in 18 for $33.50 with cart. Will walk next time, short course.

Overall, very enjoyable round. Fun layout, lots of elavation changes. Choose your shots wisely. Will definately be back.

Played Los Robles on 5/26/07. Started at 2:04. Finished front nine at 4:00 finished back nine at 7:00. A foursome two in front of ours was playing the back side very slow, and no marshall in sight.

The course was in great shape - though the greens had more than a few un-repaired ball marks.

This is a fun layout. Many elevation changes make for interesting shots.
I will return.

The course is really in fair condition. The fairways are getting a yellow as the grass is dying off. The greens are fair, tee boxes fair, ect. Everything is just ok, for a 20 dollar twilight and being right on my way home I still play here but I wouldn't drive too far to come here until the spring.

I must say that the staff is very friendly and they get me our very quick from the waiting list.

Played 1/7. greens were in good shape, fairways are thin, tee boxes not to bad. Pace of play for a 7:30 tee of was 4 1/2 hrs, which was good for the wind that blew on the last 6 holes. Greens have really improved since my last time here back in October.

Played 12/8 AM. I hadn't played here in a while. It looks as if they are actually making an effort to start sprucing the place up. Tees were cut short with some shape, looking like they have plans to make them look great. The greens were the best I have ever seen for Los Robles. Smooth, uniform and pretty fast. I even saw the beverage cart 3+ times during the round. It seems to finally be going in the right direction. A surprisingly enjoyable round.

took the ride to Robles on sat 11/25. Grew up playing this course and had not played it in years. Heard there is new management so thought I would give it a try. Really nothing that new or special to report after not playing it for years. Balls were fish-tailing on greens and putts had to be hit super firm to hold bumps on greens. Historically the worst course for fairways and I would say this time around the fairways improved maybe 5% but were still pretty thin. Nice sand in the bunkers and still a few unlevel tee boxes. If they improved the greens and leveled the tee boxes I might be back again to put up with the bare fairways. The only good news is that are foursome finished on a sat(holiday weekend) in 4 hours 10 minutes.

The course is in good condition other than it needs more grass. This has always been a problem with Los Robles but, if you keep it in the fairway you have no need to worry about grass.

Played the course at 7:00am on 11/11 and was part of the group was running a little late. The gentlemen in the Proshop were very helpful and actually got some of the other groups that were supposed to be behind us to move their start times up to accommodate the fact that the foursome wasn't ready on time. I have played this course on many occassions and was very pleased with the shape the course was in. The fairways were in good shape as well as the sand traps. The only thing I would say needed some help was the bumps in the greens but I was told that they had punched them within the last three weeks and were starting to show signs of improvement from that, and some of the tee boxes were level. Other than that the course was in very good shape and for the price you really can't beat the course. I will be playing there again sometime in the near future.

Sunday, 10/15, 9:15 tee time. The greens were punched recently and haven't resolved themselves yet so putting there currently involves a bit of bouncing and deflection of the ball. Greens probably need another week. Otherwise, if you can let that slide and are just out to get your fix, the course is in generally good condition. Not a lush course on it's best days, but the fairways were good overall. I do recall the 7th fairway standing out as being a bit thin and wet. Classic SoCal public course in that you'll get more roll but a little thinner lie. Definitely some holes that could punish you for wayward shots, but the general condition of the fairway-side rough was not punitive.

Probably a more interesting layout than most in it's price range, about half the course involves hills. For comparison, I prefer it to Camarillo Springs a little further up the road which is more expensive but (arguably) less interesting. The pace started out a bit sluggish on the first few holes and then resolved itself to slow but steady with a bit of delay on the 10th tee. Hey, it's weekend golf.

A decent, interesting course for not too much, I recommend it if it's convenient for you. I haven't played it much lately, but in the past found it was a course I could get a weekend two-some reservation, even calling later in the week. Worth a try when no one else seems to have any openings.

Los Robles is what it is. The course gets a ton of play. A 4.5 to 5 hour round on the weekend is the norm. Every aspect of the course is good, not great, but not horrible either. You better be straight because there are trees all over the place. I don't play here often because I think there are better options for me locally, but I don't avoid it either and I do enjoy it when I do play here.

Course in much better shape than early in the summer. Greens a little smoother and faster. Highlight of the day: no water on 14th tee, so as we walked down the fairway the marshall drove up with water and asked if we needed any. When we said we did, he proceded to fill our bottles up for us. First time anyone has ever done that for me. A+ for Him

I played on 7/29 and was pleasantly suprised by the conditions of the course. After reading some of the other reviews and seeing th rating I wasn't expecting the course to be in great condition, and it really was. The greens putted true, but kind of slow and the rest of the course was in good condition as well with the layout short but fun. I will definately be going back.

Played this course for the first time and was taken by surprise. I liked the layout and it was farily well kept. The pace was a bit slower than expected (there was a 20 minute delay.) For the condition and the amount of play this course seems to get, I think it's a bit overpriced and when I asked how much for a replay, they said they didn't do that and that I would have to pay the regular green fee, at that point it was already twilght and the rate with a cart was still $30... way too much for this course. I'd play this course again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to pay those green fees. I'd rather drive another 15 mins. and play River Ridge. Although the cart girl was really cute.

Played early morning on 5/7/06. The pace was good for completing the round in 4 hours. The course is in bad shape however especially the greens which are often bumpy and very slow. The sand in some bunkers is very shollow and club would bunce off the hard surface when you hit below the ball. It is a course with nice layout and beautiful oak trees, but it urgently needs more attention to its course maintenance.

First off, i have to say that the round I played came a couple of days after they aerated the greens, which was foolish. Still, I thought the course was in terrible condition. The greens were absolute garbage (it was like putting through freshly fallen snow). The course is not well maintained, as there are brown spots and divot marks everywhere. You never see any maintenance being done on the course. I don't know if I will play here again.

Grew up and learned playing golf on this course. I have never seen such a contrast in nine's on any public golf course from the tips. Front nine is a joke compared to the back nine. #10,#15 are very difficult pars with wind in your face. I enjoyed the old Los Robles layout. Greens and fairways still need some additional work. Here is an idea, maintain the course everyday, not just before the City Championship?

Hadn't played here sine 9/11. (Hard to forget that day!) I like the changes they've made since, except that #10 and #15 are a bit too long for me from the tips. Big improvement on #7, despite its length, it least you can see the green now on your second shot. Removing that water hazard also makes the tee shot on #12 a whole lot easier! The greens were very bumpy and inconsistant. Otherwise the course was fine. Wish I didn't live 100+ miles away, I'll play it more often.

The course was in pretty good shape today. Traps have obviously been recently attended to. Tees out of level, fairways okay, no rough to speak of. Greens are quick and quite true, lots of damage though, but still roll quite well. Overall at $30 a good day, but could be better with more attention to the fairways and rough.

The course can be fun, but you have to subtract a few strokes on your round because of the greens. They are in terriblie condition- they are bumpy with variable speeds, some are hard, some are not. There is no way to get a consistent putting stroke on this course. Other than that, it offers a few quality holes with the rest being mediocre, but for 30$ it's not a bad deal.

This is a very pretty layout but it's just in awful shape. Even recognizing that the greens are only a week or so out from having been aerated, they're still just hideous. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who has ever repaired a ball mark on any of these greens.

If they put some work into this course it could really be nice, but I'll be staying away until I learn that they've done just that.

Played on 10/9, played back nine before the TO City Championship. The course has come a long way in the last month. Was told they hired new head greens keeper and it shows. The greens are looking great and the tee boxes and fairways are improving. If you have not played this course in a couple of months give it another try.

While the playing conditions were above average for Los Robles today, being the Thousand Oaks City Championship is this weekend, the pace of play was abysmal. We teed off just after 12:00 and finished around 5:30. An over 5 hour round on a Wednesday afternoon was an enormous disappointment. Despite the better then typical playing conditions for Los Robles, and the opportunity window of playing the course before they aerate the greens next week, I just can’t recommend playing a weekday afternoon round at Los Robles until they improve the sluggish pace of play.

If you walk, as I always do, you might not have a voice by the time you get to the back nine. Much of the front runs alongside the 101 and you have to scream at your playing partners to converse. The play is incredibly slow. I only play weekdays and 5+ hour rounds are common. Soggy spots all over the place and the greenskeepers just drive right through them leaving tire tracks 6" deep. On the greens, you kinda just have to push your ball towards the hole. You can't really roll your ball. Very slow and they hop all over the place. It's like rolling a tennis ball on a washboard.
On the positive side, though...there's a few really great holes and the old oaks are stately and wonderful.
I'd rather go to River Ridge, though. Even though it's MUCH further, it's a better course and I can be still be home an hour earlier.

I can't remeber when I've seen the course in as good a shape as it's in now. The fairways are really green and nice, and they actually are mowing some shape into them. The tee boxes could use a little TLC but all in all not too bad. The greens are half Poa now are very bumpy. Lots of putts left short due to the bumpy ride. If only they would roll them...It's a fun track in great shape with some great people.

People should pay a premium for playing a tournament on a weekend. If you called your food order in on the 7th hole like most people do with the supplied phone at the teebox, I find it hard to believe it took the 30 minutes you say it took. 15 to play the 7th hole and another 15 to prepare your dogs???

I haven't played here in a few months, but Los Robles is by far the the best bang for the buck in the area. If you want better service, look at Tierra or one of the other $100.00 courses around. Although, I've been treated pretty bad at Tierra once.

And after 9 holes we stopped at restaurant to buy just 4 hotdog combo (not t-bone steak w/steamed vegeatable) they took more than 10-15 minutes, when we got at 10th tee box marshall or whoever guy came nervously saying why we didn't keep up the pace. What should we do? The greens have wo types of grass. A bent grass and now spots of poe anna. The greens are not smooth and the speed is hit and mis. This was to be expected when they rebuilt the greens a few years back. Tee boxes and fairways are in good shape, this course gets a lot of play.

Played 4/3, first time playing the course. Very nice facilities, nice range, putting green and practice areas. Course was in okay shape, still saturated in places, fairways were a little long, perhaps they were due to be mowed the following day. Short but tight course, unless you are super straight with your driver, leave it in the bag on most holes, more than a couple elevated tee shots, I liked the elevated par 3’s. Greens were strange by being pretty quick, but very bumpy, a lot of ball marks. The one bunker I was in had very little sand, but overall an interesting course.

It has been many years since I've played Los Robles and I found it to be quite the challenging layout. It's short, but the middle six holes are as good a test anywhere. The condition of the course is to be expected for a city owned course, slow play, bumpy greens and uneven fairways.

I agree with BG - Westlake. Played front 9 on 1/31/05 and was pretty disappointed. Greens were in rocky shape, nothing true, bumpy, really slow, even though it hasn't rained hard in weeks. Fairways were nothing to write home about, lots of occasional water, mud, unkempt. Good price, but just a dull muni, with loads of potential...

Played today, and the course seems not too much worse for wear after all the rains. A few trees lost some branches, some grass on fairways a little drowned out but no new canyons or anything. All holes played as usual. The fairways were OK and mostly dry, just a couple of low areas are still a little squishy.

Once again we tried Los Robles. Drive by on the 101 freewayprobably 4 times a week, look over at all the nice tree lined fairways and terrain and vow to give it another try, well today was the day and once again was disappointed. The city of Thousand Oaks poured a pile of money (some of it mine) into this course recently, new clubhouse, bathroom, and snackshack, all quite nice. But they didn't seem to find the formula for maintaining the course. It looks like one guy works 40 hours a week and is the sole greenskeeper. The potential this course has for drawing a regular weekly crowd, lots of retirees around, a shorter course, nice layout very high visibility and still they choose to not maintain the course at all on par with others around. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a muni. If you want to take the kids out for a round or just want something local without the big fee$ go for it, if you are hioping for a decent track that is halfway well maintained look elsewhere. :(

Played here for the first time on Saturday. Course is in good shape with the exception of the sand traps - pretty thin. Nice layout particularly the back 9. Sort of has a feel of Ojai Valley Inn course with the many oak trees. Someone told me they just had the city championships so it is in better shape than normal. Did notice that all puts break towards the freeway.

Only complaint is the slow pace. I did not check the time between groups, but I think they are trying to cram in too many golfers and the course gets bogged down because of it. There is simply no reason a round should take 5+ hours for a well managed course.

Will try it again some early week-end morning to see how the pace is.

Nice new clubhouse!

Played on 8/27. First time playing on this course. Overall a good experience and good bang for the buck, at least for twilight ($18 + 8/cart). Agree with everyone that greens need some serious work or serious signage informing players to fix their pitch marks. Grass on greens needs work, needs to be a bit more lush, less sandy, some of my pitch marks were impossible to fix without leaving a blemish.

Fairways were good overall, most of the teeboxes were good minus a couple of the par 3s. Will definitely be back here sometime, was able to walk on no problem as a single. Pace of play was a bit slow at around 4h45m.

Their range is also not so good because of the mats and the fact that you are hitting in the direction of the sun, so it is hard to tell where your ball went.

Played twilight on Saturday afternoon and finished in 4.5 hours. Small waits on a few holes. Nice course, nice conditions, best round I have shot in years. The divots on the greens are bizarre, it is almost like a badge of honor to not fix your divots. I tried to clean up 3-5 on each green and it still didn't make a difference. New clubhouse is great.

CRIME ALERT!

My wallet was stolen from my golf bag right in front of the pro shop. I was on the putting green for <5 minutes. When I went back to my cart, it had been moved. I didn't think anything of it until I got to the snack shack at the 8th hole. No wallet. I called the pro shop and they said someone had just called and said they had found a wallet and gave my name. They said they would be finished at 2, so they were just a couple of groups behind. I figured that we golfers are a pretty honorable bunch. After the round, I drove to each grop behind and no one had the wallet. 2PM came and went, no wallet, so I called the credit card companies and the charges had already reached the $400 mark. So I was scammed and robbed at Los Robles.

Other than that, I've never seen the fairways as nice and green as they are now. The greens are really beat up from lack of courtesy, and many of the par 3 tee boxes are really beat up.

Great course, lots of fun, keep your valuables in your pocket.

Played on 7/31, had an 8:00 time, got there a little early and they let us go right out. Played the round in about 4 hours which was a plus, and it seemed like there was no one on the course. The course was in pretty good shape except for the greens which had so many pits from people not replacing ball marks that every put bounced up to the hole. But for the price and the rest of the course it was good deal and I will be going back.

Greens are in bad shape. Most have unrepaired ball marks. Pace was slow with many walkers on the course and people playing from the Black tees where the Whites were probably a better choice.

I play here alot and it seems to get better the greens are still bumpy but I blame the many golfers that don't fix thier divots. The fairways a bit muddy but overall good and there was a guy in a bee suit what was that. Overall pretty good just a couple of things they can inproove on. 1. Don't put trees in front of my ball. 2. Move the greens where I hit my irons. Fix that and this place would be great.

Best I've ever seen Los Robles!!! Fairways and most Tee Boxes were great. 2 greens had some noticeable brown, but they couldn't bring down the rest of the course. I was a little worried when I payed $41 bucks for a round and cart (I'm a broke college student), but was more than satisfied when I saw the course conditions. Pin placement was tough, but made it a challange on this short yardage par 70. They ran smooth and held iron shots. Elevation changes and doglegs are very fair. Pace wasn't fast, but we only got held up on the 3 pars, but with the heat lately, it was accepted. Will be back soon to bring my friends who think the place is a dump, but now it's looking great.

Played on 7/8 at 6:00 AM as a single. Course was in pretty good condition. Greens were firm and hard and medium speed. Fairways in pretty good condition considering the amount of play this place receives.

The fair ways are looking better. The greens are bad. Looks like two different grasses on some of the greens. This course gets a lot of play and no one seems to fix ball marks on greens. Between the players and the current greens keeper this course is not what it use to be.

The course is in limbo. The course management is temporary, waiting for their management proposal to be accepted/rejected. It's a nice course that is hampered by city politics and indecision. The locals are hoping a management team will soon be in place and the course will be what it can be. No computerized starting times, Lots of luck

I usuallly look forward to playing Los Robles, especially since the big re-do a number of years back, but the course is really suffering right now. The greens are really in need of some TLC. Lots of ball damage and bad grass lead to unpredictable and bumpy rolls. Fairways are thin, tee boxes are full of divots. The whole course looks neglected. I really hope they are in the process of straightening all this out, because it used to be a jewel in the area crown of courses, but right now, it's best to play elsewhere.

This is as close to a goat pasture as I've played in a while. Most fairways were thin with large areas of dirt for roughs. The greens were lumpy, bumpy and inconsistant. Our club had a tournament there and asked that they mow or roll the greens. We were told that they only mow 2 x per week and they'd think about it. They've lost our club for tournaments. Go to Rustic Canyon!

Course not in good condition, lots of brown areas and greens very thin. Because of construction in one area, an outhouse is available & there is only one, for men and/or women.

Played Los Robles a couple weeks ago. Structurally a fantastic course with lots of elevation. Will need a few more weeks of good weather and less water before it's in OK condition. Many of the greens were still kind of soggy and bumpy, and generally inconsistent. Aside from a miserable day putting it's a fun course.

Well, my Dad and I wanted to play Rustic on Monday, but when we got out there it was blowing a huge black dirt cloud to the south, right across the golf course. As soon as I got out of the car my contacts were full of sand. So, we headed back down and played at Los Robles.

I hadn't played here in quite awhile, and after playing a lot at Rustic the last year, I was very underwhelmed. Bad greens... as in muddy almost. Softspikes left holes in the black mud. Didn't roll very true like I remembered. Bad fairways... beat up, brown (yeah, it is winter). Bad tees... sandy, chopped up, uneven, etc. What happened?

Oh well, we walked right on at 9:30 with no tee time (it was cold and windy though...) and we played with a nice Japanese couple that didn't speak much English besides "nice shot" and "good approach".

Going back to Rustic next week.

this used to be a good course. They kept the course up well for a while after the renovation, but this course has fallen apart. The tees boxes are covered in sand, you have to really search for a flat part. The fairway are thin and may are muddy. The greens were the worst I have ever seen them. The greens were speed was inconsistent, a few hole fast a few were slow. The greens were all torn up. Many ball marks, and hole all over the place. You really didn't have a put with a smooth line. The only good thing was the pace of play, played in under four hours, it could ahve even been quicker but we had a bunch of nuts on cell phones the whole time, please leave the cell phones at home. Overall, I was not happy with the course, it used to bea great course that was fun to play, the layout is still great but there is alot of work to be done. Sorry, for the harsh comments, but the course has fallen apart.

Have you noticed the personalities (or lack thereof) of the younger staff? The older guys are great, but the young guys have as much personality as a dried up Kikuyu divot skewered to an O.B. stake. Too bad the old staff screwed up, but they were always a delight to deal with.

The tee's were shaved to dirt and just re--seeded, so we could not use them and the greens were punched 2 weeks ago and still a little spongy and uneven BUT this is one nice course. The fairways were in good shape and the two traps I hit were dry... Played in just over 4 hours and can't wait to go back in a couple of weeks to experience this place in it's usual xlnt condition.

Played today, Wenedsday, 10/8. Took 3 hours to play the front 9. There were four groups on the sixth tee when we got there. All but one of the players in those groups were 25-30 handicap (this was very apparent) and ALL were playing the blue tees.
Couldn't tell you about the back nine since I walked off after 9. I KNEW I should have driven further north! Either that or stayed home and mowed the lawn. That would have been much more enjoyable.

What course were you playing don? Our group went off around 11:30 and we definitely noticed the holes on every green. I will say they are recovering rather nicely but to say they are not noticeable is not the case. I enjoy this course every time out and am excited about the new management. From the black tees the back nine is extremely challenging. Hole number 10 is PGA tour caliber. Definitely recommend playing here once the greens heal.

Played on 8/26 afternoon. My 8 year old and I walked the course and pushed a foursome in front of us in carts the whole round. There was no one in front of them and they had ample opportunity to let us play through.
I've never seen more unrepaired ball marks in my life. And you'd be incredibly lucky to hit a bunker without getting stuck in a footprint. I wish they'd take a hint from a place like Rustic and spend more time and $ on the golf course and less on their clubhouse. A nice clubhouse is great, but not at the expense of poor maintenance on the course.
This is a fun course and a fun layout with all of the old oaks and rolling terrain, but until they get a crew that knows how to keep their tiretracks out of the many mudpuddles on the course, it'll always be the same ol, same ol. Hopefully, the new management group will recognize this.

Again - please, people. FIX YOUR BALLMARKS and RAKE THE BUNKERS. If you can't do that, take up bowling and get off the golf course!!!

Played a very quick (4:15) round this morning at 8:15 AM. I got there at 8 AM and jumped out with three others as a single. This course was in pretty good shape - much better shape than Knollwood that I played yesterday. The greens were very challanging; they were fast and firm with lots of break. I can hardly remember a flat put. One warning: IT GETS d%mn HOT by 12:00 PM.

Extra challenging from the Black tees. Lots of shots through narrow openings of huge oak trees. Pin placement and hard greens made every approach shot super important. From the tips a couple of 4 pars were near impossible (#17- 459, yet #12 is a 456 par 5?).
Highlight of the day for me (a 20.4 index): Par on #14- 611yd par 5, on in 3, two putt from 50+ feet.
I've played many times here and always enjoyed the challenge. A month ago someone posted spongy greens, but now they're stiff and fast. I guess they recently started giving out pin sheets, instead of colored flags, very helpful with the tough greens. Will be back soon.

I had played this course in the past and it was in much better condition. My only real complaint was the greens. There were ball marks everywhere. Rarely did I have a putt that did not have a ball mark in the line and there were so many marks (in excess of 100 on the green I counted) that you couldn't count them all. I don't know if it is due to the people playing this course or it is something about the greens but it is an issue that definitely should be addressed. More and more I am seeing golfers who do not repair their ball marks and it disgust me. If you enjoy the game respect it and the course you play on. To those out there that are respectful and repair ball marks thanks and keep it up.

I played on 6/28 in the afternoon. I agree with what Den888 word for word. It was tought placing some tee shots due to shooting over trees on an elevated green.

A smaller challenging course I must say.

Played today 6/29 with a morning tee-time reservation. Course was busy which can be expected for a Sunday morning. Several tee boxes had divot damage and thin spots. Fairways were pretty good with some thin spots. Greens were spongy and slow. Pace was about 5 hours for my foursome. The clubhouse facilities are excellent. Scenic Conejo Valley location, but the noise from the nearby 101 freeway detracts from what would otherwise be a good golfing experience. Some great holes with elevation changes and narrow fairways make tee shot placement important on this course.

I also played this course on April 17th just after 2pm. All the roughs were heavily aerated. If your didn't hit the fairway your ball bounced around like in a pinball machine. Probably a good time to aerate, rain was expected that afternoon but never arrived. The only green in poor condition was #9. It was bumpy and appeared to have dime size sand filled aeration marks. I recall they trimmed the tree on hole #10 which is good. Overall the course is doing fine. They serve very good food in the clubhouse.
