svigiano - Moorpark Ca
Played Moorpark Country Club this past Friday morning. The golf course was in great shape as well as the greens being much faster then previous time I played. The Green speed was just over 11 according to the starters and it made a big difference in how the course played. We played in under 4 hours which was good for a Friday morning.

Out 9th- twilight; let us out early, no charge for a small bucket. Played Creekside/Cyn Crest [first time Cyn Crest]. Had not played here in over 2 years and was as good as recalled- it is worth a special effort to play here. Moorpark offers a variety of hole design and keeps the game enjoyable. Had heard criticism of Cyn Crest, I found it comparable in hole design with a tract home feel. Must hit the ball straight on all the 9’s or a big score awaits. As a two-some, cruised through in 3.5hrs no waiting anywhere.
All aspects of the course were great- greens have grain so be watchful. What was a slick downhill putt may not be on the next hole. Ran true. Fairways were near immaculate. In a single bunker [fried egg #3/Cyn Crest] and the sand was perfect. Clubhouse customer service was also very helpful- overall a fine afternoon of golf.

the greens are slow, slow, slow! the greens have not sped up since they aerated months ago. everyone i talked to at the course agreed. the guys in the pro shop said 8.5 on the stimp! one thing moorpark was always known for is the greens and for some reason they are not speeding them up. fairway rough was up as well. killed any roll you may have needed. that was ok, but get the greens back up to speed!

Played here 5/22 with GK Staff. This course is a good test of golf. We played from the black tees and it made for a tough round. The ESA areas were not at all forgiving. Very heavy brush that just would not spit out any off line shots. Nice layout with great views around the course. The greens were a little different on each of the nines, I believe because of different aeration weeks, but no excuses for bad putting.
The fairways were fantastic if you could hit them, and the rough was... well rough. The sand was great in the two bunkers I got to experience.
Some blind tee shots could be a problem for first timers. The GPS on the carts was helpful, but I was looking for some little tips on each hole, that I have seen on some courses.
Very enjoyable golf experience, worth the trip out there! I will be back!!

Played here for the first time for the GK Staff outing on 5/22. I absolutely love this course. Lots of variety, great conditions and amazing views. First class facility. The restroom buildings on the course are better than most clubhouse facilities!

We played the Ridgeline/Creekside nines. This course was tough, but not brutal. If you stay out of trouble, par is no problem. I made 9 pars for my round. Unfortunately for me, you have to count the other 9 holes. The ESA's on this course gobble up wayward drives - hence 4 double bogies and 2 snowmen (ouch!). I did venture off the fairway down toward one of the creeks to look for one of my wayward drives - and found a golf ball graveyard. Came back up with 11 golf balls. Misery obviously loves company on this course.

The par threes are generally pretty long, but several of them are downhill. I especially like the 9th on Ridgeline - a long carry over a pond with the clubhouse in the background.

The weather was pretty good except for the short thundershower that had us taking refuge in one of the restroom facilities. Of course, it wouldn't be one of JohnnyGK's outings if we didn't get a little wet :-0.

Uncrowded conditions made for a very enjoyable round. The company of the 7 other GK staffers wasn't bad either :-).

Played 5/22 in GK Staff outing. Immaculate and pristine describe this place. Nice practice facility where you can chip, putt as well as hit longer shots. Excellent food/service in the Clubhouse Restaurant/Bar. The tees, fairways, traps and rough were all in super shape. Starter, Pro Shop & Maintanence workers were all 1st class.

The greens show which ones were aereated first, the Canyon Crest 9 was like putting on velvet, smooth and quick. The Ridgeline 9 was still excellent, but a bit bumpy and slower than the Canyon Crest 9. The Creekside 9 was in the middle of the other two nines.

There are three nines here. lets go over each, since they are radically different creatures.

Creekside (73.8/142) has the most water of the three nines and is fairly tight in addition to being the longest of the three nines from the tips. Two excellent long par 3's, a risk/reward short par 4 mixed in with several LONG par 4's and a reachable par 5 to finish. Probably the toughest of the three nines in my opinion. Several long carries to reach a safe landing area also make this a great test of golf.

Ridgeline (73.0/138) has 3 par three's, 3 par fours and 3 par 5's. Great contrast in holes, the par 5's vary from 527 - 660 from the tips. Two of the 3 par three's are over 200 yards from the tips while the other is "only" 174, but plays shorter since it's straight downhill. All the par fours are less than 400 yards and collectively potentially provide the most breathing room on this nine. This nine is reasonably, not ridiculously tight, but there is rarely a hole you can spray the ball much.

Canyon Crest (73.8/136) is the most open of the three nines. This side indexes higher than the Ridgeline but is the easiest of the three nines in my opinion. Less contrast than the other two nines, not as many spectacular views or elevation changes but still an excellent nine holes of golf. Only the 1st & 9th holes have water and it's 3432 yardage from the tips is more evenly spread out among all the holes......none are really short and none are really long & not as many forced carries from the tees.

Played Canyon Crest and Ridgeline today, 4/22. Creekside is closed due to aeration of the greens. Fairways and teeboxes are in nice condition. Since Canyon Crest's greens were punced about a month ago, they were fairly smooth and moderately fast. However, the greens on Ridgeline are still very slow and bumpy. I had several downhill putts, with the grain that I had to hit hard to get there. Longer putts were always at risk of hopping off line due to how bumpy the greens were. It made putting a little challenging. They probably won't be smooth for another week or so. Other than these greeens, the course is in good shape.

Played here twice in the past week and found it in great shape - Tee boxes and fairways like thick carpeting, just beautiful, and manicured greens. The sand traps are showing good results from improved attention. Must have timed it just right as their was little to moderate wind. You must be careful not to hit up into the thick grass outside the rough - they extract a severe penalty! Finished in under four hours both times (weekdays).

Played February 18th - For the most part, the course was in pretty good condition. Not spectacular, but the fairways were kept well, the greens rolled true and semi-quick once the morning dew dried. Despite elevation changes, it was not terribly difficult to find a flat lie. As for the staff, that's an entirely different story.

Backdrop: My playing partner planned an entire day of golf consisting of 36 holes. We drove roughly 100 miles (one way) and booked a 7am tee time (we left at roughly 5am). The weekend prior, my partner called to ascertain whether Monday was a normal weekday (this was President's Day) thus enabling him to use a player's card yielding an add'l discount. After being told it was, he called back the next day to speak with someone different and again confirm what he was told the prior day. He was reassured by the employee in the pro shop that Moorpark was in fact considering it a normal weekday. Story: Upon arriving at the course on Monday, we paid and the employee at the pro shop informed my partner that he could not use his player's card b/c it was a holiday, and thus having booked online he would be getting a double discount (something Moorpark does not subscribe to). My partner expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that he was told twice one thing prior to driving in excess of 100 miles to only find out that was not the case. He made it clear that the money was not the issue, but rather the lack of policy consistency. In true gentleman fashion, my partner exclaimed that it was not the fault of the man behind the counter, to which this employee replied, "I know it's not my fault." GREAT customer service there (sarcasm). Anyways....

We had planned on playing 36 holes utilizing Moorpark's replay special of $40. After finishing our first 18 holes, we spoke with the starter to ask about our chances of replay. He stated, "sure...if you don't mind starting at 3:30" (it was 11am at this point). He also said to check in the pro shop. When we did, we were told there was a 11:15 tee time we could have. The guy inside called out to the starter to ask if he could put us in the slot, but the starter said no b/c they were backed up. Keep in mind that while we were on the course we had to pass an extremely slow foursome who backed the course up, and not once during the entire round did we see a marshall on the course. Great course management Moorpark, and way to turn down paying customers when you have an open tee time.

Ultimately, we left and played at Robinson Ranch - a much nicer course with a great and accomodating staff. I will not go back to Moorpark b/c they are rude, unprofessional and terribly disorganized. While the maintenance crew does their job, the rest of the staff is either poorly trained in customer service, or just doesn't care. Either way, there's too much good golf in the area for me to waste my time and money to be treated as if they do not need my business. Your best bet in this area is to head over to Rustic Canyon where the course is definitely better and the staff acts like they're actually glad to see you visit their course.

Played here yesterday for the first time, what a nice place to play. Thank goodness for golf carts. I love all those elevated tee boxes. We had 0-5mph winds it was about 85 degree, the greens were very fast and didn't break as you thought it should. Like the greenhornet13 said sand was not raked well. People need to start repairing divets on the greens, but when they buy the tool it may start happening, other than that I will return when I'm not in a best ball tourney to see how I really do..Happy golfing....

played ridgeline/creekside - overall the course is in very good shape and the greens hold nicely and are rolling fast. just too d%mn windy! seems every time out the wind is blowing at least 20mph. some of the traps were very unevenly raked which made for some very interesting lies. other than the wind, it was well worth it.

Played on 12/23, and the Ridgeline and Creekside courses are in excellent condition; however, the Canyon Crest, the easiest of the three, has some thin spots on a couple of the fairways. All three courses offer scenic and challenging holes.

Played on turkey day, Ridgeline/Canyon Crest. I haven't played here almost a year. Beautiful views and the courses are very nice. Fairways are in great shape. Greens are fast and well placed pin placements. Greens are also well protected with bunkers. Thumbs up for the golf courses. Couple of recommendations to the managements.
1. When you charge more than $100, you can afford to give out bottle waters. How much does it cost for a bottle of waters? Last time they did, but now they only give out to members only. Don't be too greedy.
2. Replay fees. Charging more than $50 to replay the course is somewhat OK. But charging same price to replay just the 9 holes are little too expensive. You should have some special prices to play all 27 holes.

Played here day before Thanksgiving. Good course, but not really my style of golf. I enjoy more traditional golf but Moorpark is very much target golf. Great views. Course was in very good shape. I played Creekside/Canyon. I liked Canyon nine very much. Some good holes over there. More diversity in the design. I'm glad I played it but would probably not go back. It's a "novelty-type" course. I enjoy Rustic Canyon down the road much better. I was a little surprised the customer service wasn't better. I'm Joe Public Golfer, but for a $120 course, you'd think there might be someone to pick up your clubs and take to your cart or wipe them down when you are done, but there was none of that. I don't need those amenities, but I've played cheaper courses with better service. Clubhouse is awesome, however.

I played Canyon Crest and Ridgeline on November 20th at noon. This was my first time at Moorpark and I was astonished at the view of the course that hit me when I first walked past the fountain...and that was just the driving range!!

All kidding aside, I thought the course was in terrific shape (a little soupy in spots) and the greens were awesome. The layout is thought provoking and visually intriguing. Get to the top of Ridgeline, stand there lining up your putt, look to one side and see a red tailed hawk hovering in the breeze about twenty feet from you and that bogy on the last hole just doesn't seem to matter that much any more.

OK...on the fifth hole on Ridgeline...for pitty's sake aim for the barber pole!!

I'd like to give this course 5 star conditions over all. Through out the year, I have seen how this course was managed cause one of my freind is a member of this club. Without a doubt, the management of this course just keep improving everything to make it perfect. I have noticed all the rakes in the bunker are new and longer, and more importantly much lighter than old ones. What about sands in the bunker? Finally, sands are coverd more to the bare spots with soomthing up the hard ones. I've never seen the greens, fairways, and ruffs are good as now. I guess all of overseeding has gone too good and surely I will take the benefits of the wonderful works until next year.

played Canyon/Ridgeline saturday 11/3 and overall the course is in good shape and has recovered nicely from aeration and overseeding. what i don't get is why on this morning they did not move the pin locations from the day before? maybe even longer! on every green the areas around the pin were beat and bumpy and we played before 10. if you went to just the next quadrant, the greens were smooth and nice. did someone forget? or are they just lazy? it was extremely disappointing to be playing on greens that looked like they do at the end of the day instead of the beginning. the super should have his license revoked for that one.

Played at 1pm on Thursday and finished right behind the group in front of us, 5 hours later. Lots of time gets taken up looking for lost balls due to the narrow fairways, with many canyons and ravines alongside fairways and fronting tee boxes.

I played with a group of 15-20 handicapers who insisted on playing the blues--bad plan! This course is way too challenging to do that.

Fairways, greens, and tee boxes were in excellent shape despite some very hot weather lately. This is course is a great test of all parts of your game, and the scenery and views are as good as it gets (round here anyway).

I experienced nothing but good attitudes from everyone from the starter, cart barn guys, and especially the very cute beverage cart girls who came by three times during our round.

While a bit pricey, this course provides a challenge that is a cut above all but a few. Every shot requires making good decisions and a solid swing. I look forward to my next chance to play here...

Hogwash...with less than flattering comments coming from majority of postings, and what I have personally witnessed recently, I cannot understand these very recent ratings that suddenly took this place from a low 7 to a mid 8. Wondering if course officials have been overly influential lately! Really do need to work on the service and attitude hear.

Near perfect conditions at a near perfect facility and layout(s). If you have not tried MPCC before, our preferred nines in order are: Canyon, Creek and if forced to, Ridge is okay, but a distant third to the other two nines.

Played a tournament on 7/14. I haven't played the Creek Side 9 in a couple of years. But, when I was told it would be $60 for a replay, I said no way! The staff here has their noses so high in the air, they can't even smell their own mouthwash.

While this is a fun golf course to play, it certainly is not worth the green fee. However, if you have plenty of dispensable cash, come to check out the cart girls and waitresses (potential Playboy Bunnies, for sure). Otherwise, head down to Rustic Canyon for half the price.

Played Creekside on 7/7/07 twice. Yes, twice! They were hosting a tournament and didn't allow our 2 twosomes to play two distinct nines. We weren't told this info until we got to the starter...who was very rude about it. When I booked two weeks ago I was told which nines we would play but was questioned when brought up ("Who did you speak to?"). Outrageous!

We were playing twilight on Thursday for $60 and had to haggle with the manager to play for $30. (Originally offered $45 to play the same nine two times!) Lacking in customer service to say the least. When time to get a cart the cart service said we would have to walk. A hilly course like this?
I don't think so. Too bad about the service because the course seemed immaculate at least the Creekside nine. We eventually got our carts which ran out of juice by hole 14. We signaled for a new cart which never came. All course conditions were lush and well kept except for maybe the bunkers which were not raked by other groups playing through. Greens were soft but fairly slow.

Course seemed poorly managed and do not plan to return anytime soon even though the manager did offer a discount rate for the next go around.

Good course but you can keep it!

Played today in 4-hours and 25 minutes. Country club conditions all the way around. I've been wanting to play Moorpark CC for a long time. Finally decided to bite the bullet (and the $85.00 price tag!) and play a round. I was most impressed.

Fairways and greens are very nice. I played Canyon Crest (three over par!) and then Ridgeline. I hear that Creekside is the hardest - well - they'd have to go some to be as nasty as that Ridgeline Nine! Sheesh! A 620-yard par-five ( #5 - from the blues!) One hole after another just ate my lunch! Local-knowledge and/or playing this track again would really help. Target golf...a premium on hitting it straight, to be sure! Some truly beautiful golf holes...and all the elevation changes you could ever need. Not the longest course in town - but it's all the golf course anybody needs, that's for sure!

Only one complaint (as I was only in one bunker all day!) - the bunker behind the green left of the flag on #9 Ridgeline was like hardened cement.

If the bunkers all had good sand - I'd give Moorpark an 8.5. As it is - the Greenskeeper.org rating seems fair and just about right.

played on 5/7 and was amazed... course(ridge-creek),driving range, service and the clubhouse were top notch ( check out the mens restroom ). having played all the courses in the simi valley area, it would be hard to prove that this is not the best total experience out there. the courses were tough (had 15-20 mph wind this day) but not ridiculous. cant remember the last time i used a driver on a par 3(#9 on the ridge - 202 yds w/ wind in the face). tee to green - immaculate. if i play golf out there this will be stop #1.

played 5/5 cyn crest/ridgeline - greens on boths courses were playing slower than normal, but rolled true. soft too. canyon crest is in great shape from tee to green. the tee boxes on ridgeline had been punched, but nothing severe. overall a great day. not sure if the greens fee of 120 for a saturday is going to make me come back too often though.

Played 3/30/07 sat.noon.Was 1or 2years been played here.
Starter gave us Canyon crest & Ridgrline to play but as I was informed that Canyon was aerated we asked to switch creekside .But starter said aerated 2 weeks ago now roll pretty well we said o.k.
This season of aeration I think green fee must be reduced cause when you get to green seeing bunch of holes & sands loosing interesting roll of putting (just hit as you can to hole) golfer loose 30-40% of pleasure of golfrounding. When we got at back 9(ridgeline) not yet aerated totally diferent greens we met.
Well pressed ,medium-fast speed, good rolling but hard.
Except distance from my place definitely wonderful track to come back when opportunity given.

I played this past weekend and the greens were not their normal pace and somewhat 'hairy' as were the fairways. Its almost as if mowing frequencies have dropped off as well. I can't figure out how this reduction in quality is supposed to attract buyers but anyway I had a fantastic experience at Rustic Canyon last week which is going to replace this course on my rotation.

Played Friday 3/16 at 9:20am. Played Canyon and Ridgeline. It was empty around the club when we showed up. Our group was the only one on the range. The course itself was in perfect shape. The greens were rolling a little slower than usual and were holding balls which I haven't experienced there before. I was only in one bunker and the sand was wet and heavy but still allowed me to blast out fairly easily.
This course is by far my favorite around. It's tough but fair. If you play in the fairways, you can score well and it punishes you for errant shots. It differs in this way from Lost Canyons where you can hit perfect tee shots and still end up in trouble. Had I not three putted five greens I hit in regulation, I could have shot a personal best. Oh well. Next time. I ended up at Pro Golf in Simi to get my putter shortened and fitted properly.

I managed to break away this weekend for some golf to take on Moorpark CC. I’ve been reading a lot of positive feedback about the course and it did not let me down. Wow, was it windy although. We teed off around 11:00am this Sunday and despite battling huge gusts and searching for my ball all day, we finished the round in 4 ½ hours. They started us off on the Canyon Crest 9 and then routed us to the Ridgeline 9. Personally, I like the layout of the Ridgeline 9 better but Canyon Crest is certainly more forgiving. Overall I thought both courses were in great shape but I have to give the nod to the Ridgeline 9 as being in better shape because the greens on the Ridgeline we more firm and rolled a bit truer. Afterwards, we grabbed a bite to eat in the clubhouse on the patio and you would swear it was like a summer day. Just beautiful out. The food was delicious and if you order the french fries or onion rings, they are cooked to perfection. Played golf with cychow and rsimper. Rsimper will be rating and writing the surveyor report so stay tuned for more info.

* Have to mention an amazing run of holes rsimper had. He hits hole 9 Canyon Crest in 2 and taps in for birdie, next hole on 1 Ridgeline, he just misses birdie and settles for par, next hole he drains a 45 foot putt for birdie, and for an encore, he just misses the green left on the par 5 hole number 3 with is second shot, calmly hits a pump-and-run from just off the green, over 100 ft from the hole, into the cup the for eagle! 4 under in four holes and he could have been -6 for the stretch! Now remember, we’re battling, no joke, 30mph winds. Rsimper has got some serious game.

This is an excellent course. The best i've seen yet. NO wonder why its been voted best in golfers digest. THe parview system is amazing. Its hard to think of playing without it. I shot my best score ever at this course. With the amazing views and a luxurious clubhouse, its almost impossible not to fall in love with this place. I'll be golfing here again next weekend.

Played this course on February 26th. What a great course. The greens were in great shape and tough to score on. If you have not played this course you are missing out. Give yourself a present and book your tee time.

For the hype this place has been getting lately, I must say I don't get it. For the three dollar sign ($$$) price tag that they instituted late last year I certainly expect more. I come here about every other month as part of local rotation and especially over the last few weeks I would say this place has actually decreased conditioning-wise. The attention to detail on golf course has certainly suffered since last here and I was surprised to see this true of the clubhouse experience as well. When there are so many good local courses for less money, I'm not sure if M.C.C. will remain in the rotation. Seems as if these other courses are putting more money or effort (or something) into their product. Other than a solid effort from the marshals (we finished in decent time for a weekend), I will hope that my next experience will be improved.

I can't begin to say enough good things about this course. The conditions right now are perfect! The front nine took us only 1:45 to play last Friday morning. With the Red Dot discount it was only $45 on Friday. Even the cart girl was the best looking cart girl I have seen. Play Moorpark NOW! The conditions are better than you could imagine. It was woth all 67 miles I drove to play the course.

This was my first time to play Moorpark, and the twighlight rates made the value one of the best I've played in a while. Pace of play was a bonus; everyone seemed focused on finishing in <4 hours.

I was really, REALLY impressed with the course conditioning. I simply couldn't find fault with any component - tee boxes, fairways or greens. Although the greens were rolling more slowly than I would have anticipated this time of year, they are the truest rolling of any in SoCal. As other reviewers have mentioned, the only disappointment is the growing number of golfers who lack the self-awareness or etiquette to repair their ball marks.

GPS in the carts, course conditions and green fees value have contributed to making this one of top 3 courses withing driving distance from Santa Barbara

During my holiday season, I played some golf courses rated top 36 courses in the west on Fairways & Greens. I played few times on over $300 value courses. I found this course is one of the best not only for the price but also conditions and layouts. I will definetly come back here for my next vocations.

Played on Christmas Eve. I recognized this golf course 4 1/2 stars rating on Golf Digest. The golf fee is high, but I think it's worty compare to other overvalued golf courses. Using GPS on the cart could make me order hamburgers and picked it up without delaying my playing time. I always enjoy playing on the great conditions at nice layout golf courses like here

Played Ridgeline/Creekside on 12/22 - first group out, blue tees. Coming from NorCal winter conditions, I found the course to be in great shape. The only negative was something that's becoming all too common - people failing to repair their ball marks on greens! I particularly liked the course's emphasis on strategy and ball placement. Tough but fair - I'll definitely play here again on my next trip south.

still one of the best courses in the area. surprised to see how much ball damage was on the greens of the Canyon nine. i know the members get first crack at this nine, so are they not repairing their marks? i expect much better for this course. overall, still a pleasure to play and worth the trip.

Played Saturday 12/16 in windy, showery conditions and found the Canyon Crest / Ridgeline combo to be in excellent condition. There are still a few areas of patchy sod here and there, particularly around #6 green on Canyon, but these areas are in play and the new grass is knitting in well. These nines are definitely back and in great shape. The greens were sensational as usual, and the bunkers are looking good and playing nicely too. It's great to see Moorpark come back after a tough time, and it is absolutely back!

Of all the area golf courses I find Moorpark CC a fair yet the most challenging track to play. I love the way you can mix up your options with the three nines playing one or the other as your front nine or back nine. I play mostly during the mid week and enjoy the opportunity for faster play time and great values with there special rates. I book my tee times on line and get an additional $10 off. I have to admit they have a couple of holes that really beat me up but I birdied Ridge #5 and got a little redemtion. One more thing there restaurant food is the best! Moorpark CC is my #1 pick in Ventura Co.

Very upscale golf facility. Conditions on the course were great. I really enjoyed the dining facility and bar areas. Friendly staff and I played my round in less than 4 hours. The best greens I've played
in this area. I would recommend playing here to all my friends. Try making your tee time online...I think it's discounted.

I lost a dozen of ball here again, but had wonderful time. I played on Thanksgiving Day with no holiday rate which was a great deal. I expected a slow play, but it took 4/1/2 hours which I thought normal. Almost all staffs were very nice and I saw enough rangers to make players alert to get right pace. Everytime I play here, I'm so amazed about the conditions of greens and how well layout of golf courses. I played two months ago and I was so disappointed about fairway in result of summer heat. I am so gratful this golf course has it's perfect condition again. I'm sure this golf course will be maintain always as now. I tried lunch for the first time and I found the one of greatest Japanese style udong. I'm so picky about noodle suffs, but this udong is same taste as my favorite place in downtown LA. Anyway, thanks for the great price and quality and I really enjoy comming here.

It's good to see this golf course as it used to be. I haven't played here for last couple of months and heard very negative comments about the fairways due to unusual heat during summer time. I can see how the management of this golf course put their all efforts to bring back marvelous condition of fairways. The greens and tees are still the best among all others that I ever played. Keep the good work!

Played Moorpark CC (Canyon Crest and Ridgeline) for the first time as a two-some, 10/25, 10:00 am tee time. A lot of positives and I'll save the negative 'til last. Beautiful, interesting course that wraps around and through the hills with a lot of elevation changes -- some of them dramatic. We were generally impressed with it as an upscale layout. There was a large outing going off at twelve, but would be only be using one of the nines we used, plus the third nine (Creekside) which we didn't, so by the time the group started we were off Canyon Crest and never had to deal with them. Consequently, it was like having a private club to ourselves. The two of us were the only ones on the driving range warming up, and except for a single who caught and past us on the 8th hole, we never had anyone behind to press us. We did not play well, so the lack of additional pressure was appreciated. Kept wondering about our good fortune in getting the place virtually to ourselves. The Ridgeline Course had recently been overseeded and the greens punched, but the punch holes were well along in healing. The residual sanding on some of the affected the roll on a few holes, but on most it was a non-issue. Generally the greens were good and reasonably fast, clean and true. On top of everything else, they knocked $5 off the online registration fee due to the maintenance work, which brought the price down to $55 per, including cart (no walking allowed). A great bargain for this kind of course. The major negative was wet fairways. As a result, carts on cartpaths only which is more work than simpley walking -- although as someone who usually walks, this course does require the cart. But I don't understand why the watering has to be done at a time and to a degree that you are frequently hitting off a wet, sloppy lie in the middle of a warm sunny day when there has been no recent rain. I don't get it and it was the singular disappointment about the day. Otherwise, I recommend the course. If you can get a price break it's a steal.

The fairways are absolutely terrible. They dont even let you take carts out on the course in an attempy to let them recover. Its going to take a major overhaul to improve the fairways. Yet, the tees and greens are fantastic. I suggest playing winter rules in the fairways, if you are able to find a nice patch.

played the creekside/canyon crest nine. creekside was in good shape, but the canyon crest has taken a beating thanks to the heat. soggy and bare fairways, actually questionable if it was playable. basiclly in the middle of overseeding and playing clean and lift to somewhere there was grass to hit your next shot. they had the ridgeline nine closed and from the views looks like it has taken a beating as well. the fairways are probably months from coming back fully. course took $10 off the weekend greens fee. greens on both courses were in great shape.

The Canyon 9 has gone through a major overseeding with Burmuda grass to combat the stress caused by the high heat and humidity. They made their first cut this Friday and golf course conditions are vastly improved. The greens are perfect as well as the tees. Should be back to its great condition in 2 to 3 weeks. Great Service and outstanding Staff.

Don't bother going to Moorpark CC for at least 3-4 weeks. They just stripped and punched the fairways on the Ridgeline and Canyon Crest courses...and the Creekside course is closed for major construction. The Ridgeline/Canyon Crest run is "cart paths only" and you have to walk through acres of mud and unremoved plugs in the fairways to get to your ball. On more than one hole I was 6 inches taller from mud on the bottom of my shoes when I arrived back at my cart after negotiating the path to my ball. The greens and tees were in excellent condition. I wish the pro shop would have advised us of the course conditions when we booked the tee time and it was too late for us to go elsewhere with our guests from out-of-town when we arrived at the course. The very least they should have done would have been to significantly reduce the green fees for these conditions. The course should be back to "fighting weight" in about 3-4 weeks -- in the meantime go elsewhere.

Played Ridgeline/Creekside this morning with some seriously hilarious guys (who could play a little, too, by the way) and had a good time. Canyon Crest was closed today and they're re-aerating the greens and seem to be doing some work on the fairways too; the started mentioned that all three nines had some "heat stress." Some fairways were rather thin, and several tee boxes were pretty badly beaten up but the greens on the Ridge/Creek combo were all in great shape. Apparently they're going to continue doing some spot aeration but I didn't hear where or how - it sounded like it would be a few greens here and there. Saw a nice-sized rattlesnake in the wash to the left of Creekside #5 (don't ask), so do be careful if you, uh, go looking for a few spare balls for the shag-bag.

Overall, Moorpark is in quite good shape - a hair below its normally perfect condition, but always a great day of golf.

Played ridgeline/creekside twilight 8-25. The layout of this course is difficult but a lot of fun. Creekside has some very long par 4's with not much fairway to play with. Course was a little dry but only because of the heat. Other than that no complaints. Greens rolled great, very fast and true. Customer service is always great, and there was barely anyone on the course. Definetly worth the money, especially the cheaper twilight rate.

Played 7/30 at 2pm on Canyon/Ridgeline. Definitely a fun course that makes you make good shots. If you hit the ball straight and employ good course management, you can score low here. It really rewards good shots unlike some other high end courses.
The recent weather seemed to take it's toll on the grass as some of it was brown and dry but you still had good lies in the fairway.
The worst part was the mariachi band playing at a wedding at the club so on 8 and 9 on Canyon you had to listen to them while trying to play, it was pretty distracting.
Also, the fifth hole on Ridgeline, the 600 yard downhill hole, it probably the most unfair and ridiculous hole I have ever played. There is not one level landing area down the entire fairway and absolutely no where to miss. Add to that you basically have to hit the green with an approach shot where you will most likely have a downhill, sidehill lie because going long, left or right will put you 30 feet below the green with an almost vertical chip shot. Impossible. I say play that hole with your pitching wedge and putter!

Was surprised that pace of play and tee box quality has gone downhill. I have played this course 6 times or so in the last nine months and the last two times I played in June I was disappointed that the round was 5 hours to play on both occassions. Marshalls seemed unconcerned with pace and fact that clearly unqualified players were teeing off from back tees. Also, several tee boxes were in the poorest shape I have seen ever on this course.

Play on 7/4. We started at 6:30am and left around 4:30pm. We played 32 holes. We could have finished another 10 more holes except one of guys had to leave to pick up his kids. We had a great time. Weather was beautiful and breeze was nice and cool. Perfect weather for golf. All of us lost lots of balls and two of us actually clear out all our balls in our golf bags. However we still had a great time. Thumbs up for Moorpark golf course. Fairways and greens are in top shape. Bunkers are OK. I only saw one bunker had some water in it. Sands are bit hard. Interesting breaks on most of the greens. There seems like breaks right at the holes. We all experienced balls going directly to the holes but breaks right at the holes or spin out. Had little difficult time to find restrooms around the golf course. Our scores are bit high but can't complain. Can't wait to go back and spend all day enjoying the scenic views and play golf ....

Played Ridgeline/Creekside on Monday morning. The course is in outstanding shape. The greens, fairways and rough are extremely well-manicured right now. Even with all of the heat, there were very few browns spots on this course at all. The greens were rolling great, the fairways were in outstanding shape and the rough was long enough to cost you if you were too crooked off of the tee. The sand traps were in good shape, but a couple of my playing partners came up with some pretty hard lies in a few. The only complaint about this course is the starters. They are about as short-tempered and as rude as any can get. They were pretty much growling at everyone from the time I got there until I left. Oh well, I guess every course must have one thing they can improve on.

Motored around the Ridgeline-Creekside combination on Tuesday morning alone in about three hours and found the course in spectacular condition. Greens are just perfect. Although they might consider getting them a hair faster, there's hardly a complaint to be lodged. Fairways were immaculate, rough substantial in places but also exceptionally groomed, bunkers solid, tee boxes in great shape if perhaps a bit shaggy... this course truly sets the standard for conditioning in this part of Ventura county. Get out and play!

Played this course on 6/23 (my birthday) Course in excellent shape. Played the Ridgeline/Creekside combination. Greens were in excellent shape with few ball marks. Fun course to play and was matched up with a couple from Simi Valley who were a delight to play with. Enjoyed the round very much and would recommend this course to everybody. However I have 2 compliants. Paid $85 for the round on a Friday but still had to pay an additional $4 for warmup balls. Should be included for that price. Secondly the snack bar people were not to friendly. Seemed to think that it was an inconvenience to wait on you at the turn. The rest of the staff were great especially the starter who allowed me to warmup at my leisure before heading out to play. In summary a great experience and I look forward to going back again sometime.

I got out and played the Canyon Crest/Ridgeline course on 6/18. I can't say enough nice things about this coourse. It's in immaculate shape, the people and service are top notch, the greens crews are respectful and invisible and there's no one on it. As a twosome we didn't see anyone in front or behind us until the 15th hole when we let a noisy and less than courteous twosome play through. This is a fantastic track that is worth the drive from anywhere. Considering that it's less money to play than Lost Canyons or Tierra Rejada, and the same cost as Malibu Country Club, it is head and shoulders above any other high end course in the area.

A long drive (120 miles each way) but the course warrants the long trip and cost of gas! Uncrowded, nice staff, and excellent playing conditions. All three nines are good tracks. The only complaint is the firmness of the greens, but that's to be expected with such a young course. It will only improve in time.

Played thurs 5/4. Course is in excellent shape. Greens look alot faster than they were... quite slow these greens. Played ridgeline/creekside. Wasn't a big fan of creekside. I like ridgeline.. though I agree with the earlier poster that some holes are a little tricked out. You definitely have to play here more than once to know what's up. i thought I crushed a perfect drive, only to drive up and see that I went off the cliff. For some reason, I liked it better the first time, and not so much this time, my second time. Probably won't make the drive again unless someone else really wants to play. But, course is beautiful and in good shape.

This is just an over-hyped, over-rated, AND over-priced golf course. I've never seen such poorly designed holes--can't even see where you're supposed to hit the ball, because it doesn't exist! There's one hole in which you have to hit uphill, over a deep valley AND onto this "patch" of land, only to have to turn around and hit another shot to another piece of land--looks like one of those [joke] posters you used to see with a golf course built amongst a hundred massively-tall islands! I've played many difficult courses in my life (see [former] Emerald River in Laughlin) and loved them! But this one is a joke. You're much better off playing nearby Rustic Canyon--much more interesting AND a great value.

Played Ridge/Creek nines on Sat. 4/22. The Creekside greens still have at least a week to go before they're really healed from aeration, so they're still pretty bumpy and slower than the Ridgeline's greens. Fairways, rough, and bunkers are in great shape though the recent rains have left some bunkers a little crusty it seems. The tee boxes seemed a little shaggier and longer than usual but not to the point of being problematic. On the whole, the course is playing beautifully. I hadn't been out here in a couple months and the weekend greens fees are now $105, which is getting pretty high for my tastes. They do have a current Monday special going -$55, which is a major bargain. Wish I'd known sooner; I'd have taken a Monday off to play!

Has been my favorite since 04. Yes, best course condition, beautiful clubhouse, and friendly staff. Previous reviewer... I can't imagine having such experience at Moorpark, you should def give it another try. It won't disappoint.
A challenging but fun course. Not cheap, but worth it!

Played on Friday 4/7 at 10:00. Course was OK shape. Was never notified of Areation (Sp.) on the phone. Tees seemed like they have not been mowed in 2 weeks. Fairways were also a little long. Greens were bad. 9 holes were areated and very slow. Then the back 9 was not areated and much faster.

Clubhouse guy was no nice. For 85 clams I would spend it somewhere else. Maybe when/if the course is in great shape.

Played the Canyon Crest/Creekside combo Thurs. 3-30. The front nine played fast and and the greens were a little slow, due to aeration a few weeks earlier. The back side was absolutely beautiful. Fairways were in great shape and the ball rolled true on the greens. MP CC will be back in all of it's glory in about 6-8 weeks after they finish the aeration process.

course held up well after the rains. everything was great except for the pace of play. teeing off early on a Saturday morning you should play within 4 1/2 hours, not 5 plus. don't be afraid to move it along.

Played 2/12... WINDY!!!! 30-40 mph most of the time, severely affects putting!! But what a wonderful track! Played canyon/ridgeline. I'm gonna have to come out in the spring and hopefully avoid the severe wind.

Played Sunday 1/22 in the howling wind. Canyon/Ridgeline nines both in excellent shape. The wind was so strong that it was literally almost unplayable in spots ( at the #2 green on Ridgeline, the highest & most exposed spot on that nine, we literally couldn't putt because balls would not sit still long enough for us to lift the ball mark, let alone set up and putt). It was also a lot of fun, though to hit 390-yard downwind drives! Any way you look at it, they're still keeping this course in fantastic shape. If you hear the words "wind advisory," bring several layers of clothing and a truckload of patience, as well as your knockdown shot.

called to see how busy they were and specifically asked if they had any tournaments going on. they said no. when we arrived 30 minutes later, we were told that they actually had 3 tournaments going on that day and that we should expect a slow round.

course conditions are excellent and the layout is one of the best anywhere.

the course is in fantastic shape. from top to bottom, this is one of the best courses in the area. the greens are holding their shots and then rolling true. the only downside is the wind can really pick up and alter a game. fantastic clubhouse as well.

Played on 12/30 and had a great time. Regardless of how busy it was we played in 4.5 hours and the service was very good. The golf course was immaculate, especially the greens. I think MCC is the best valued golf course in Ventura County. I recommend playing.

Played my last round of 2005 at Moorpark because I couldn't get out at Rustic... and I've never seen Moorpark as crowded and slow as it was yesterday. Played Creekside/Canyon Crest and found the Creekside to be in amazingly great shape, Canyon Crest a bit less so mainly because the group in front of us (one of whom spent literally five minutes on his cell phone on the tee box at Canyon Crest #1 with the entire hole open in front of him, and then duck-hooked his tee shot into the crap) left plenty of ball marks for my group to repair. Anyway, I don't know how they're keeping this course so perfect through our cooler, shorter-days winter, but they are. Greens are in fantastic shape, fairways perfect, and the rough, though not real long, is super-lush. It's always a treat to play here. 2005 was a great golf year!

Played Canyon and Ridgeline. Canyon was not as interesting, but things improved at the Ridgeline. However, Ridgeline is less forgiving. The fairways are in great condition and the greens are fast. Will return and hopefully play Creekside.

played ridgeline/creekside on 9/15. the conditions were generally above-average. some of the traps seemed a little hard, but the fairways were lush, greens were quick, and pace-of-play was excellent.

Played the Canyon Crest/Ridgeline combo on 11/25/05. Both sides were in outstanding condition. It was my first time on the Canyon Crest side. Not nearly as tough as the Ridgeline side, but still a nice layout. It moves in and out of the homes going up in a few places. Although a little pricey, Moorpark CC is a course that should definitely not be missed.

Played with a buddy on Sunday. Went out on Canyon Crest first and played from as far back as the markers let us. It was my first time on the newest nine holes. I had shot a couple low 70's rounds on the original course and had good expectations from the looks of the new clubhouse and facilities that tie together the facility just perfectly.

My buddy as a witness, I had no more than four feet for birdie on five of the first six holes. Of course I missed some of those but I made birdies on 2, 4, and 5. I then struggled through holes 7 & 8 and was back to 1 under after a par on #9. A very good round for my first experience on the new nine.

We went on to ridgeline where both our games sorta fell apart. Ridgeline is by far the toughest of the layouts at Moorpark. But I've learned that being conservative will help your score on this side.
I stopped the bleeding after four holes and put together a fairly decent 18 hole score of four over par. We started out at 10:00 am and managed to finish an additional 9 holes on the Creekside course. Pace of play was for the most part awesome as we finished 27 holes before sundown.

All the courses had great conditions with the exception of some overly lush fairways on Creekside......however it looked as if they had punched the fairways a few weeks back---still very playable from just about anywhere on the fairway. Rough is forgiving enough for novice players. Bunker sand is perfect.

Some of the holes at this facility have some extreme course architecture. The 650+ yeard par five on ridgeline has a very steep slop in the fairway. I once witnessed a out-of-control cart hydroplane nearly completely off the right hand side of the hole at the top of the hill. Luckily the cart hit a bush and I didn't need to identify any dead bodies that day. BE EXTRA CAREFUL RIDING YOUR CART AT MOORPARK!!

Besides all that....the golf shop staff seems a bit rude to young flat bellies like myself. I expected a little more compensation for suckh steep green fees. $70 for twilight is way too much, when there's hardly anybody out here in the afternoon. I sure didn't like the fact that range balls were not included in the price of the round. We got rushed out...didn't have a chance to practice putts or chips....can't complain had a terrific first nine.

Cartgirl was a blast but a little refined for being tipped so well.

Zipped around the Canyon Crest/Ridgeline combination this afternoon in about 3.5 hours. Course is just about immaculate - greens rolling beautifully, some fringes on the Ridgeline recently punched but not obtrusively so. Fairways are perfect. It's just in excellent, excellent shape!

Woo who! Logged on to get the course phone number and found out I won $100 gift card. Thanks JohnnyGK. Great site just keeps getting better.

Played Thursday afternoon. Can't say enough about the course, greens are the highlight or a great, difficult course. If you are a high handiacapper bring LOTS of balls. Long narrow and when the wind comes up, look out. Dont't try to be a Manly Man and play from the backs try the reds first here!

Only complaint was that we got behind two slow groups and after waiting for 7 holes of waiting on each T, we jumped them. I had called the club house and they sent someone out, but what are you going to do about a paying member? Playing from the Blacks when he should be hitting from the Reds!!!!!!!!

THERE IS NO REASON A ROUND OF GOLF CAN NOT BE PLAYED IN 3 1/2 to 4 HOURS.

Drives me nuts.....

So back to the card..........should I buy one of these new high-bred clubs or just a bunch of Calaway golds? (great wind ball by the way)

Let me know what you think I should do......

Boy, do they keep this place in great shape. Played Saturday, 9/17 and enjoyed the Canyon Crest/Ridgeline nines. These are two highly distinct nines, both a challenge and both in pristine condition. The greens are in top condition, quite firm but generally holding. Everything about the course is just gorgeous right now, provided you can overlook the hellish sprawl of spectacularly ugly McMansions packed around the course.

Played on 9/5 and the course was in great shape. By far the nicest public course around that I personally have played. Had a 2:16 tee time and actually got out a little before 2:00 and still got to play for the twilight rate of $55 on a weekend, which isn't bad considering the cart is included with that and the condition of the course. Played the creekside and canyon crest 9's and was completely impressed with both courses. The greens were all rolling true and actually held approach shots. I will definately be back to play the course again soon, but understand that twilight rates are going to be increased come October.

Moorpark Country Club was in terrific shape today. Lots of fog this morning but it cleared up around 9:00. It was fun to play the ball mark free greens on the new Canyon Crest Nine. I think these are the best greens around. Hope it stays that way!

Second time playing this course and I liked it even better than before! Course is in great condition, staff is friendly. Played first 6 holes in total fog, but other than that, what a great way t spend the day. Fun gold course, a challenge but not unfair. Not "tricked up" . A little pricey, but much better than Lost Canyons for less $$.

Played last Friday the 1st of July. Course is in great shape, seems as if they have widen a few of the fairways, cut back some rough and made the course a little fairer. Finished in 3 hours, played alone but hit two balls on several holes.

Played Ridgeline & Creekside on 6/30 -- courses are in great shape with greens a little slow from recent punching (but still true) on Creekside. Winds were up which really lengthened a few holes, but all in all a great day. Love the fact that two beverage carts make active rounds. We were held up on only a few holes, but they could use a ranger on the course keeping groups moving. Only hole that's really tricked up in Ridgeline #5 -- layout suggests you should aim at the driving marker but you really need to be left of it. Pet peeve of paying for range balls at a relatively high-fee course -- they should offer them free -- but nice to hit off grass on the range.
