Played here for the first time this year. Pace of play is awful. Marshalls totally ineffective and there were several fivesomes ahead of us. Only managed to get in 14 holes in 5 hours.

Played on 11/11/08 in the morning. Pace of play was very good. Course is in good shape overall. Tee boxes, fairways, rough, traps are OK. The greens are receptive, still a little slow and bumpy.

Played at Simi Hills for the first time on 10/24/08. Pace of play: outstanding. 3 1/2 hours. We started at 7:00 am and finished at 10:30 am. Condition of course: very good. Greens but were pretty good considering had been aerated in recent past. Fairways were in very good shape. I like this course. Not overly challenging, but not easy either. Staff very friendly. I will return!

havent played here for a while so decided to play on 9-17. Pretty decent conditions for a area that gets very hot. Greens rolled good except the 6th hole(this hole is always in bad conditions due to many divots and diseased green). Pace of play was 4 hours to 4and half, starter was friendly, didnt see a cart girl, but many water coolers around, layout is decent and its reasonably priced. This course is not managed by american golf anymore....which is a good thing.

The layout of this course is deceiving. You think it will be easy but few holes are what I would call easy birdies. You have to be able to place your ball and the pin placement are important. The greens can really be tricky you you're not solid with your short game. Played in GK Tournament with Johnny GK and the BigDog. It played fast for us since we were in the front group but we were behind a really slow threesome. Tried to get those guys to move and they didn't get the hint until i literally drove my cart up against theirs a few times. After Hole 13 they literally disappeared. Good for us b/c we quickly picked up the pace as well. Course in good shape. Greens were quick, a little bouncy but rolled pretty true. Fairways were a little soggy from all the watering but aside from that OK. Tee boxes some were a little uneven. Sand in bunkers were to my taste but from what I heard from others they were a bit disappointed. Service was good. Saw the cart gal three times. Nice work management. We were instructed by the starters that we were running late but we caught up with the group ahead after the first hole. It was slow going after that. Thanks to the staff and management of Simi. You guys run a pretty good value course. If I didn't live so far away you would be seeing me more often. Cheers!

Played GK marshal after the round helping to move the groups forward. Hope my precense didn't knock you guys off your game. Hoping you guys had as good a time as I did :D

Played Simi Hills on 9-12 and I did not see any divots on the greens and only a handful of un-repaired ball marks per green. The 6th green was the only exception as far as un-repaired ball marks and poor surface (but that green is a surface they have always had issues with and in fact different from the rest of the course). I was impressed with how well the greens rolled and how receptive they were to shots. The greens were a bit on the slow side for my tastes but certainly provided an acceptable pace to allow for good putting. Regarding the fairways, which fortunately I was hitting from often, I felt they too were in very good shape. I like the firmness of them and I generally found my ball sitting up. On the flip side, the bunkers on the course certainly needed more and higher quality sand. Sand traps, especially green side bunkers, significantly come into play, the poor sand quality which translated into firm and thin lies needs to be improved. The tee boxes also stand room for improvement, however, looking at how the course is designed in the sense that the tee areas are not large and given how many people play this course, it’s understandable why the tee boxes are in the shape they are in, although some more care from the players regarding fixing divots would go a long way. Simi Hills Golf Course offers a very affordable green fee and in some cases is less to play then the LA City courses. Given how much player volume this course services combined with the time of year we played it (end of summer), I felt relatively speaking, it was in great shape.

I’ve been playing Simi Hills Golf Club for the last 20 years and it’s a layout I’ve always found interesting and enjoyed. Personally, I’m not a fan of holes, 1, 3, 5 and 6 but the other 14 holes, essentially from hole 7 and on, are very fun and challenging.

Overall, for the price, Simi Hills Golf Club is an excellent golf experience.

Simi Hills is an interesting layout. Water comes into play on many holes, well placed traps and course knowledge is a definite plus. The traps had bery little sand, the tee boxes were placed in such a way there were a lot of bare spots. The divots and non-reoaired ball marks on the green shows the people who play there are responsible to fix them. Too bad the course is fun and with proper help from the players and better sand in the traps it would have gotten a much higher rating.

Interesting track, no holes that would make your overly tough golf hole list, but few holes that are going to yeild alot of birdies to the average player either.

The sand traps are different than most courses and have more dirt than sand, but the texture is at least consistent. Almost impossible to spin the ball out of these traps. The rough, tee boxes and fairways are well maintained and freshly mowed. They just today topdressed the greens with a light coat of sand, so the greens should be back to normal for the Big Dog's 9/12 tourney.

Played early saturday. Called early in the morning and was able to get on (missed tee time at buenaventura). Overall the course is in great condition. Tee boxes are good, pretty leveled, some bare spots. Fairways were great nice and green. Roughs were pretty long, made it difficult to punch out of at times. Traps were hard to soft. Greens were great. Good pinplacements and rolled true. Overall great course and was thankful we were able to get on early! Place rocks!

Played Friday pm. This course is a good value. The tee boxes were a little shaggy and a couple were a disaster. Fairways were pretty good and the rough was just enough to be penalizing. Although the fairway is wide on most of the course. I am not sure what kind of grass this course has but there was no roll in the rough at all.
The greens were very slow and a little bumpy. I did like the layout of the course. The only comment on the layout is that three of the four par three holes were exactly the same yardage.??
Did not experience any greenside bunkers, only a couple fairway but they seemed fine.
I am looking forward to playing here in the GK outing. It is a bit to far for me to play regularly, but I recommend this course.

Played mid day on 8/25 with longball23 and Swing18golf. First time I've played this track in 8-10 years and I was impressed with the improvement. The course is in MUCH better condition that I remember it being years ago. The greens are a bit bumpy and slowish, but at least consistent. The traps could use some more sand, but were decently maintained. The fairways, rough and tee boxes were all above average.

Just played a practice round this morning with Swing18 and Nickesquire. Tee boxes on many holes were unlevel. The fairways were thick in some spots and in decent condition. You are not getting that much roll off your drives here. The greens looked in good condition to the naked eye but were very slow and bumpy putting wise. Currently you have to hit the ball a little harder on these greens. The course has a variety of holes that are pretty neat. There are only 3 par 5's on this course. The front nine is a little bit more wide open and the back nine is a little tighter. Not every hole here is a driver hole. There are several holes where you need to work the ball left to right or right to left off of the tee box. Hitting greens at Simi is very important and staying below the pin is also important. Most of the greens are guarded by sand traps. The traps are very hard packed in my opinion which is great if you are in a fairway bunker and tougher if you are in a greenside bunker. Some of the grass/fringe in front of the greens are wet and soggy so a bump and run does not work as well here. The greens themselves were receptive to iron shots. The wind was not that bad today and we walked the tips in 4 hours and 10 minutes. The staff inside the pro-shop were friendly. There was no cart girl but it was a Monday morning when we teed off. This course should be a nice place to play the GK tourney at, challenging, fair and some variety from hole to hole.

Played here on 8/11. Nice to know that they still let 5 somes out as I had the privilege being behind one. The marshall sat there and watched me wait for 15 minutes on a tee box and said nothing. The bunkers were rock hard but other then that it was still enjoyable. Ive found myself going here more now that LA city courses raised their rates.

Played on 8/8/08. Early AM tee time. Pace of play was very good. The course is in good shape. Tee boxes, fairways, and rough are OK. Some of the fairways near the front of the greens are not in good shape with some bare spots and bumpy inconsistent grass growth. Greens are in very good condition, receptive (except for #6), fairly consistent and smooth, but there were some bare patches at the outer fringe of a couple of the greens. Bunkers are difficult because there is a thin layer of sand on top, and then it is hard packed underneath so your wedge will bounce off this instead of digging through.

Played on 6/5/08, Thursday (6:52AM tee time). Went out as a 2some and completed our round in a little over 3 hours, which I think is the fastest round I've ever played here. The course is in good shape. They are planting new trees on various holes, which will come into play if you are not on the fairway. Greens were soft and receptive, but fairly smooth rolling. Little sand still showing on some of the back nine greens.

Played today with miguelgolf2007, Aikidomon, and the man himself, JohnnyGk. Before we played we ran into fellow GKers deano, Randy_o, Big_Al, and Lewgvlinsurance as they were finishing their round. I always enjoy playing here - interesting layout and reasonable price ($29.00 green fees). Everything was in good condition with the exception of the tee box for hole #4. Overall this was the best condition I've seen for this course. Pace of play was considerably slower than normal - our round took well over 5 hours. Keep your eyes open for a GK casual outing at this course - I'm going to try to arrange something for later this year or sometime next year.

Played early Saturday 5/3. Course is in good condition. Teeboxes were okay. Some still unlevel. Fairways are great. traps were a lil hard. Rough was good. Hitting your second shot out of it wasn't that bad, gave you a good chance to correct from your errand tee shots. Greens were okay. Some more sandy than others. but they were rolling pretty true. Good pace, got done in 4.5. Overall great day

Played Saturday 5/3/08. 8:20AM time. Round took 5 hours but not too bad. It seems to get much busier and slower if you have an afternoon tee time. The course is in fair shape. The greens have been recently sanded are are bumpy but getting better. Once they roll all of the greens, it will greatly improve the putting surfaces. I recommend getting an early tee time on the weekends, and the food at the course is OK.

Played on 4/18/2008. The course is in fair shape. Fairways are green and the rough is not to high. Plenty of water in the ponds. Greens are still a little bumpy. Once they complete the maintenance and roll the greens they should be very nice.

Greens were good from the last time we were here. Some pin placements were challenging. They were rolling pretty normal here. Pace was good, only waited on a few holes. Good course for the $.

Played today 4/5/08 since the last time I played in late March, the greens are rolling quick and nice.. Since they punched the greens they have grown in well and look good.. The maintanence crew has done a good job cleaning up the course, and it remains one of my favorite places to play. Nice round kept moving and finished in about 4 hours!!

Played on 3/8 early. Course was in decent shape. Tee boxes were okay, there were some uneven and bare spots. Fairways were a little dry and hard. Sand was at times soft but there were that were pretty hard. Greens were terrible though! Sand sand sand! affected the speed and line of putts, which made it more challenging. Overall it was good round. Got done in 4 hours.
On a side note, my buddy booked the tee time online (golfswitch) and it gave us $29 for the round. When we got to the starter he charged us $40. We told them we had booked online and it was $29. We even showed him the email confirmation , but the guy said that was the weekday rate. It was a weekend date and it gave us $29, not our fault! He should have given us the 29, since it was on their website. Anyway, just wanted to vent!

Played today Saturday 3/8/08, got out out 6:45am.. Quick round finished in about 4 hours. The greens were being Aerated as stated on Greenskeeper.org so no big surprise there. Haven't played here in a few months and I was plesantly surprised. The fairways are in good shape as well as the tee boxes. Sand (unfortunately I was in them a few times) was fairly soft.. The maintanence crew has been doing a good job.

Played on 2/27 and enjoyed myself. fairways and rough were ok but tee boxes were horrible. not much grass on any of them tough to find a place to put your tee in the ground. greens were a little bumpy but were rolling just fine. number 6 green though was at least twice as firm as the rest on the course.

Played Simi Hills on 12/14/07. 11:40 tee time, but didn't tee off until 11:50 or so. 5 hour round. Shot 43-49=92 which is about what I usually shoot on this course, though I usually shoot better on the back than on the front. Birdied #9 after hitting the flagstick with my approach. The driver was working pretty good today (hit a 320 yard drive on #6) as was the putting, but everything in between was horrible. Played the entire round with the same ball - even found it twice in water hazards. First time playing with "Fear" - once he shelved his driver his scoring improved dramatically. Miguelgolf2007 had way too much fun in the sand on hole #17. yoondaman316 was his usual steady self, though it was nice to see him have to pull out the wallet at the end of the round even if it was only for $2.00. Course was in so-so condition. The fairways and tee boxes were pretty brown, but the greens were pretty good. The range ball machine wasn't working, though they somehow made arrangements for people to hit balls. Special thanks to the snack bar lady - I'm a vegetarian - she happily made me a vegetarian sandwich even though it wasn't on the menu.

Played out there today with some other Greenskeeper members TheBigDog, miguelgolf2007 and yoondaman316. Had a great day out there even though I ended up hitting my 3 wood for more distance than my Diver. Greens were super fast and that made my putting suck bad but I still had a good time. Played on Saturday with mid-morning tee time. It took us about 4 1/2 hours to play 18 holes. Course is in fair condition. Most of the fairways were rather dry and hard. There were some bare spots on the fairways. Sand traps were in fair condition. The greens seems a little dry and hard. Putts seems to run a little fast. Didn't need to repair balls marks on the greens.

Course is not easy to play. There are some carries over water and creeks. This is a challenging course to play.

Played the course on August 18th, 8:45 tee time. Got out on time. Course was in good shape, had to look around for a level spot to tee off from on most of the holes though. The greens rolled true except for 10 which had some sort of dead spot or something in the front of it. Sand played well, a couple of the sand traps had some mud in them though. But overall the course was in good playing condition and I will be back.

Played the course on the morning of January 19th and went out as a three-some without a tee-time with relatively no wait. That was to be expected though considering it was a Friday morning and had been cold and windy earlier in the week. The course was in fairly good shape considering the lack of rain we have gotten around here and how harsh the weather has been. The grass wasn't green like you would see in pictures, but it wasn't dead either. The fairways played true except they were a little harder than you would normally find. The greens were so soft that I was sticking my 4i on approach shots which is abnormal for me so that was a pleasant suprise. I didn't hit a sand trap so I couldn't offer much feedback on those, but my buddy landed in one and it seemed to play pretty true. I have knocked this course in the past, but always seem to come back. It was worth the green fee, and I will probably be back again soon.

Played early morning back 9 on Jan 19th. Cold weather has caused Kakuya grass to go completly dormant and fairways are not overseaded..so course is brown and rough is limited in height...typical muni winter conditions. Traps are in good shape, T-boxes thin, but acceptable, fairways thin with some patches of dirt here and there. Greens somewhat bumpy, but not too bad. Limited rough allows for some links style play around the greens. Overall good experience. Was surprised they put me out as when I got out the grass was still frozen in areas.

We played twilight on Sunday, October 22nd. The greens have not quite recovered from aeration from last week. Greens were a little sandy and bumpy in spots. I could still see the punch marks on the greens. The fairways were sometimes dry in spots. Carts are "cart path only" till November 4th due to overseeding on the course. It gets a bit tiring walking back and forth to the cart. Looks like the tee boxes were aerated also (saw a lot of punch marks). It took us about 2 hours to complete 9 holes. Like playing here because it's close to home.

Maybe I was expecting more since this was my first round at Simi Hills, but I wasn't too impressed. The greens were pretty bad. They obviously hadn't been worked on im some time other than mowing. The tee boxes were severley damaged with divots & many were uneven. Too mnay other local choices available. This is not high on my list.

Played Sunday, August 27th with a tee time around 4:45 pm. Got in about 14 holes before it got real dark. Didn't care for the temporary green on hole #6. It was just a marked circle with a pin placed within the circle toward the end of the fairway on this hole. The greens on several holes we played had a lot of unrepaired ball marks. Some of the sand in the bunkers were hard packed. Several fairways looked pretty beat up with unrepaired divots or the fairway had muddy spots. I've seen this course in better conditions than today.

Played morning of 8-22. Fun layout but course in not in the best shape. Play was brutally slow, crammed way too many groups in. Temporary green on hole 6. Many fairways and sand traps very muddy. Divots were pretty bad on par 3's. Course is usually in better shape but a lot of maintenance going on.

Played 8/19/06 at 1;30 p.m. in tournament group after a year since last time. Decent shape & conditions maintained as last time. Fairways are regular to thin but not affect to play(all player's wish lush carpet fairways,no?).Greens are decent shape rolling true & medium speed but I saw lots of ball mark damages & badly repaired.Tee boxes pretty beated up in many areas(we played blue). # 6 oR #7 has a ridiculous temporary green in the middle of the fairway paint rounded around the just hole that you can't use your putter. Overall nice rounding.

Teed off at 1500 hrs on 7/12. Considering the heat we've had the last several days the course was in great shape. Fairways were good, rough was good and the greens held very well. The greens were a little slow (probably long grass at days end) but they were consistent. Some golfers need to repair their ball marks! Had to fix many fresh ones. Still one of the better courses to play in the area.

I don't understand why this place gets a bad rap. It is a great golf course. Yes the greens are a bit bumpy in the PM and slow overall but that does not make it a bad course. There are plenty of shots you need to score here. And the price is great. Pace of play for a Thursday PM was awesome.

Great pace of play on the holiday weekend. A fun layout with some good holes. Hole 11 is tore up a bit by the creek. A fair value, would play again.

We got a 3:48 pm tee time on 5/20. We managed to play 14 holes before it got too dark. Pace of play was pretty good for a Saturday. It took us about 2 hours to finish the front 9 and an hour and a quarter for 5 holes on the back 9. I noticed some of the fairways were aerated. Also on hole #12 work is on going to repair rain/flood damage from recent years rain storms (it was a par 4 on Saturday). Some of the fairways were muddy in spots and some were so hard that you drives really roll. Overall course is in good shape.

Got out 5/18 at 2:45pm as a single, finished at 6:30pm. The course is getting better with the only exception being hole 11. They have turned it into a par 3 with a temp green as they fix the wash that runs through the course.

played early this morning and the winds were blowing hard, so hard it made it unplayable and only got in nine holes. the conditions were okay other wise. greens were good and bunkers were soft, but the wind was just to much today.

Played the course on April 9 and a good time was had by all. My last post about this course wasn't to kind, but with the improvements that have been made I was pleased with the condition of the course. My only complaint would be that on a couple of the greens there seemed to be a fungus growing or something and that the hole was placed right in the middle of it which made putting extremely difficult. Other than that the course was in good condition and a return visit is already being scheduled for the future.

Some greens are healing from being punched. Some areas are under construction from rain damage. The course is very playable.

Played my first-ever Simi Hills round on 3/1 and I enjoyed it despite getting tired of playing driver-wedge just about every hole. It's a pretty scenic layout with some decent shot values except that the par-4s are, as mentioned, almost universally driver-wedge situations. You can have some fun on the par-5's and the 3-par holes are a good mix in my view. This course seemed to me to be in very good shape for a muni; only one green was notably bad with a poor mix of bentgrass and poa annua. Poa seems to grow a lot better out there and they should just go with it. Fairways are good, bunkers are very firm-packed but generally pretty consistent, and only a few tees are noticeably not level. Worth $40 weekday with a cart, and a decent walking course.

Good, Fun Course, needs a little work on a couple of greens, they aren't in very good shape. The rest of the course is pretty well kept for a public course. Reasonably priced too.

Played mid Monday morning. Course moved along better than I expected about 4 3/4 hrs. As noted by others conditions are improving, however it is still a little rough around the edges. Boxes need the most attention, greens were very slow and bumpy for a Monday morning. Wonder what they are like in the afternoon....... Course is starting to see the effect of hot Simi afternoons with some brown areas. They need to work on some of the sprinkler patters as much of the course is wet, where oathers are brown. All of the lake repairs are complete which really helps the look of the course.

All in all it is a nice muni class track, I like to course lay out and it works out a lot of parts of your game.

Sorry Guys, I have nothing to say about the PGA So Cal Legends Course......... Actually, it would be nice to pull up the reviews and not see ANY reviews of the PGA courses. C'mom guys, that horse has been beat to death!!

Anyhow, Simi Hills is in great shape for a muni. Great value. They have been cutting the rough a little lower and the course seems to be playing faster.

Fastest pace ever at Simi. Play right at 4 1/2 hours. Course is also is the best shape in years. Checking in is still an adventure compare to other courses and staff is not always that helpful with the exception of the hardworking cart girl whom we saw twice on the front and twice on the back (BRAVO).

Last time I played here (October 2004) I couldn't say enough horrible things about this course. Played it again today 7/9 and I was surprised to see that some repairs had been made. It seems the new greenskeeper is making a difference for the better. The course is a lot greener, and the sand is in much better condition. The fairways have come a long way, but still need more consistency throughout. The greens are a little slow and need to be rolled, but they are pretty consistent (except #6 that seems to have bent grass planted). Tee boxes need work though. They are pretty beat up and uneven. It was nice to see the lake between 14 and 15 filled in. I still give this course a 6 out of 10, but its better than the 2 would have given it last October. Hopefully I can rate it a lot higher in the near future. I don't have high expectations as it is an American Golf course.

Played 6/26 with an 11:00 tee time, however the tournament that played right before us was running late we didn't get to start until 11:20. The course fairways and rough were green and in good condition, but that is were it ends. The sand was like hitting off of the cart path it was so hard, and the marshalls don't care how slow you play. The group in front of us was so slow and inconsiderate on one hole, one of the guys playing in front of us even came back to the tee to hit again instead of dropping saying he knows his ball landed in the fairway but he couldn't find it and this was after they were a complete hole behind the fivesome in front of them. But, the course can't do anything about that right. So after finishing my 6 plus hour round of golf for over $50 I don't think I will be going back anytime soon. For the same price you can go to Moorpark or Tierra Rejada and play twilight and probably come close to finishing about the same time.

The new Superintendent Ron Curley is working magic. His hard work is paying off, I saw him working at 7:30 p.m. He should be commended. The course is taking shape conditions are nearing what they were in 1996 - 1998. Greens were rolling beautifully on the day that I visited, bunkers were tightly edged and sand levels were good. Fairways are also as good as I have seen in the area.

If you go by and play remember to say thanks to Ron and Alfonso for all their hard work.

Played 5/2. Tee Boxes not the best. Greens pretty bumpy and very soft, left some of the biggest ball marks I have seen in a long time. #6 is playing back to the regular green, but I would have rather played the temp green. Fairways were actually pretty nice, but this course is not very walker friendly. Yardages not marked very well.

Played for the first time since the winter rains. Course is in OK shape, T-boxes generally uneven, sand traps looked good although I was not in only one. Fairways generally good, few areas of rain damage, greens still bumpy and slow from the aeriation - growing back in with little green dots where holes were punched not even. Hole #6 has a temporary green. Back nine is more interesting as lake(s) are filled up again and the creek is much larger with a more significant visual effect with erroded banks. We were second off and finished in 3 hours walking, so I still don't get 5+ hour rounds here. I think the course should hold up during the spring - it is a nice value track with some interesting holes. Worth the green fee.

Played 4/24/05 sunday 1;48 teed off without delay.Pretty quiet & picturesque being moderate fee golf course. From the entrance of course they have a not big lake with few people fishing.Pace of play is good(finished at 6;45 as 5 somes),fairways in decent - good conditions, greens had many spots as said previous feedback but not affected to the game(rolling medium-fast,especially this season of aeration & hold well iron shot). But tee boxes are beated up seriously. Some holes of back 9 remembered me brookside #2 as their similarity.Overall enjoyable course.

played a different course than your previous reviewers. course not in great shape at all - greens were horrible, patchwork repaired very amateurish, stubbly uneven cut, many ball marks. Greenside fringe very unevenly cut with clumps of grass making chipping difficult. Tee boxes uniformly not level, multiple divots even for late morning. Pro shop wouldn't sign us in twenty five minutes ahead of tee time, but sold us a range card minimum 75 balls, and proceeded to call us within 10 minutes. Unnecessary stress on a customer, as well as inefficient. Overall pace of play was OK, but not the best experience for a moderate fee course on a weekend.

Minimal storm damage ( there is a small stream running the length of the back nine ) along the left side of 10, 11, 12. Overall, the course was in good shape. One complaint: SLOW!Too many groups sent out in the afternoon; our 1:45 p.m. start couldn't finish 15 holes by 6:30 when it was too dark to see. The front nine took 3 hours to play.

I played Simi Hills on Sunday Feb 20. As you can imagine, the course was wet and overgrown but we still could not resist the temptation to get out on the course. We got 9 holes in before it started to storm. Getting anywhere in the rough buried the ball in four-inch swampy grass. I can imagine that this will not change over the next couple of weeks. I have grown to like Simi Hills as it is a fairly well maintained course at a good price. The other courses that we play are Tierra Rejada and Moorpark. They are super nice courses, but its hard to justify the $90 fee every weekend. One bad thing about Simi Hills is that they only take weekend reservations 5 days in advance. If you are unable to get a good time when you call, its hard to find a tee time at one of the other courses because most take reservations 7 days in advance, so they are already full. Other than that, Simi is worth the money.

Had not played here in years 'cause it was always too crowded, but I took a chance and went out on the last Wed. of January. Rain was forecast, so I got right out as a single and played quickly. The course was in much better shape than the last time I had played so on Wed. 2/2 I went back.
Big mistake. Got there at 8 and got on at 9. At noon we made the turn. Went to the snack bar to get a quick muffin and waited on the grumpy old lady to fix complete lunches for te group in front of us. After standing there for about 10 minutes, I put down the muffin and bid farewell to one of my playing partners. Then I told the starter (politely) that 3 hours is way too long to play 9, especially on a week day, and I'd NEVER come back to this place.
The one good thing I could say about Simi Hills is that the bunkers are in great shape. I play alot at places like Moorpark CC, Tierra Rejada, etc. and I'm appalled by the condition of the bunkers. You'd think that, with the rates they charge, you'd have a class of people who would have enough respect for the golf course to rake the bunkers, but I guess that's not the case. There are more low-life scumbags playing the nicer places than on the cheaper courses. I guess they think they're too good to have consideration for the next guy to hit the bunker they just hacked out of.

I called the course on Monday 1/10 for a Friday 9:00 tee time. They wouldn't give a time to a single. They said just come out ( on a holiday weekend yeah right). Well Friday I get there @ 8:15 after dropping my son off at school. I go get on the list. Wait, Wait, Wait until 11:00 SUCKS! So I can't get in 18 and pick my son up from school. I am watching the 10th tee for people dropping out. I finally see someone leave and get to jump in for the back 9. Bad, Bad starter. Matt the starter let 2 of his buddies out before me. FORGET THIS PLACE! Bad service and the 15th green is 50% fungus ridden. I live 1 mile away and won't go back. GET A TEE TIME no matter how slow they say they are!

I had not played here since October 2001, so after reading the reviews, my expectations were not very high. While I admit that the lakes are dry. (they are being rebuilt) the rest of the course was as good as I can remember. The greens were very good! The only disappointment for me was the development being done on the back nine, resulting in the removal of the old red barn on #12, which I always felt was one of the nicest features of the course. Oh well, I guess that's progress?

Played the course on November 7th and after reading the reports was hesitant to play the course but it wasn't as bad as expected. Some of the lakes were completely dried up not that it really matters and the wind started to pick up on the back nine making it slightly more challenging but all in all it was a fun day. I will probably be back but with all of the other new courses in the area it won't be soon.

10/25/04 This course has had fungus damage to the greens for some time. The aeration and some replacement has helped quite a bit. They seeded their fairways recently so give it a couple weeks to recover. It's still a 3 of 5 stars.

5 years ago this was one of the best maintained courses. Now the conditions of play are the worst I have ever seen. Put it this way...the par 3 15th (over the dried up lake) had parts of the green that looked like the dried up lake. It was literally dry and cracked. The fairways played like rough as high as they were cut, and the 8 different types of grass and weed that made up the fairway didn't help either. Just another example of how American Golf concentrates on taking in money, but doesn't invest any of it in course maintenance.

Rarely has there been an occasion when the staff was friendly to the golfers. Due to the very poor course conditions, the course fees are not worth $37-39. The greens have debris on them and unrepaired ball marks. You would think that a course that is repairing certain parts of the course would bring down the fees. The one thing that shocks me, is you pay $20 for a resident's card and get $2 off the course fees!

The green fees were high for the condition of the course.
Quite a few of the greens had holes in them. Some of the fairways had dirt showing through.
The general condition of the course was very poor.

I played the course this week for the first time in 6 months or so. I was surprised on how the course has deteriorated over this time - not all of the holes as some were in OK shape but in general;
Greens: Very bumpy and beat up, many ball marks, and just plain torn up in on some of them. Difficult to get any true puts.
Fairways: Some OK, but many were brown dried out and had many uneven lies in the middle of the fairway. T-Boxes: Mostly chewed up. Sand: I was only in one trap - front one on number 17 and it had nice sand in it. Rough: Was fairly long and it was hard to find your ball off the fairway, but I liked the penalty for not hitting the fairway. The lakes between hole 3-4 and 14-15 were dried up, which is unsightly and does not give the course the look as intended.

T'd off at 12:45 and was done by 5:00, which was nice. I have always liked the layout of this track, but it sure needs some attention - come on guys clean it up it this place deserves better!

The golf course is in ok shape considering the dry spells in the summer. As expected, the fairways were rather dry and it would be lucky to get a good lie on it. The rough was long and lush for the tournament and the greens were rolling well.
This golf course have some tough holes to think about but overall, a decent golf course to play on.

Played 6-7-04 They just pinned and sanded the greens didn't hurt to much little slower on the putting surface but the were dropping nicely for me. The starter there does a good job at getting you in , but to the last comment on 6/5 , what starter doesn't have some kind of attitude, they all seam to. To all starters take it out of your butt and be nice! The rough was just that very long. I thought they were having a pro toury there or something. Overy all still a nice course and worth the money.

played thursday at noon, 4 hrs with waiting. overall in solid shape: greens smooth and hard, fairways nice, actual rough in areas 1-2", boxes good for a public course. the starter did give me a little attitude though. worth the fees and drive for me.

For the price this course is a fun tract worth playing at least once. Very easy to score well and the weather is usually great.

This course is looking better then last I played it greens in good condition. Play time good tee off at 6:00am and done at 10:00. another great day to play golf. The 6th green is back in service and will look good buy summer right now a little hard but all other greens soft/firm and will hold a shot. The desk personel just need to pull the flag stick out of some where but everyone else seem nice. I will play here again all in all a good course worth the money to walk cart fees a little high for the old carts they have.

The green on #6 if finished now and nice. Simi is close to home for me and one of my favorite places. The wind can be treachorous though in the mornings sometimes. I learned my lesson about the lake bed mud being like quicksand as Nkeboy2323 mentioned. Only got my shoes covered though but it was a scary experience.

The course is in Good Condition and I had a nice time playing it. The pace of play was OK; had a considerable wait on par 3s; #4, #15 & #17. 16 had 2 track marks down the middle of the green & the hole was placed between them. Unbelievable!!

Played on Jan 10 in the morning. Played the blue tees as part of a company tournament, but should have played white. Marshall kept hounding us to pick up pace, but we finished in just a little over 4 hours. The group ahead probably played in a little under 4 hours. Pro shop never advised that #6 was playing to a temporary green. Otherwise, fairways were a little thin, but that is expected this time of year. Greens were in pretty good shape. Oh yeah, by the way, I won the company tournament.

Looked Great, despite the burned brush surrounding most of the course. The cool weather is keeping the slow pokes off the course (Finished in about 4 hours on a Friday 9:00am tee time). Greens are great, fairways look good, the dried up lakes (That smell pretty bad!!!) are ugly, but otherwise enjoyed myself. If you can handle some cool winds, you can have a great day at Simi Hills.

PS- DO NOT TRY TO RETRIEVE YOUR BALL FROM THE MUD IN THE LAKES!!! IT'S LIKE QUICKSAND AND MY BUDDY WAS UP TO HIS SHIN IN SOME SMELLY MUD!!! FUNNY AS HELL, BUT HE COULD OF LOST HIS SHOE!!!

The course is coming around looking better. greens are in good shape, play was fast, The course is going through some much needed changes for the better. But play before the first of the year green fees are going up. worth that price we;ll have to see.

FYI – Simi Hills golf course sustained no significant damage from the firestorm. The hill sides on holes 11 and 12 were scorched right down to the OB stakes but the golf holes themselves were not touched. Contact the golf course for more information.

Played today at 2:00PM . Wow this is the worst shape I've seen this golf course. The fairways are very dry and tee boxes are almost all dirt. Yes I know they aerated the greens and fairways recently but d%mn , it's pretty bad. I'd suggest staying away for a few weeks. It's a fun course and good layout but right now it's not even worth half the green fees.

Pace of play was horrendous. No marshall to speed things up just made the pace worse. Greens were filled with divots and green on hole 6 just needs to be ripped out and redone.

First time playing at the course, got an ealry tee time on 7/4. Finished in about 41/2 hours. Got hung up on back nine becasuse of a slow group ahead of us, but the ranger immediately came out and moved play along. One of the better public courses.

This inexpensive course deserves more recognition. Very good shape, friendly staff and a snack cart came by 3 times during our 4 1/2 hour round. Any ball landing on the greens stayed on the greens. Sand was hard in most traps. The only complaint would be too many ball marks to fix while we were on the greens. But, that is not the fault of the golf course.

Played there Saturday afternoon (6-21) using my AGPA 2 for 1 coupon with 1hr early twilight rates. Including cart came out to be $15...what a steal. We checked in at 1:45pm for the 2:21pm tee time but the course was packed with a 10 minute delay. What was worse was that our group in front and we did not have carts....THEY RAN OUT! Anyway, the starter apologized to us, got us the carts on the 2nd hole, and comp'd us with $10 range cards each. As for the course, the fairways are nice but the rough was thick....you can't advance the ball too far out of it. Good track and more of a target golf...not one of these long flat 7000+ courses.

Three hours for nine holes??? What a difference a couple of hours can make, that's all I can say! I don't know what time you tee'd-off, Nkeboy2323 - but we got out at 7:20 A.M. and played the whole 18 in 4 hours and 20 minutes - only had to wait on a few shots - and our whole foursome was walking. $25.00 to walk this great track is a real bargain. I agree - a few of the blue tee markers seemed like they were placed in the most un-level part of the box - and that one dead area on the green that was roped off (Hole 6?) was a little ugly (by the way...nice shot off the rope, Johhny!!!) This is a nice layout - it was kind of wet in spots - but - Summer is coming quickly - and - this track is going to be a showplace. By no means will I defend slow play - but - there was some sort of shotgun-start for Simi H.S. today in the early afternoon - and the starter was a little frazzled - in the morning they put groups off on both front and back....that can sometimes cause bottlenecks at the crossover. We played the course "backwards" - teeing-off on #10 (which may have been the last par I had all day!) Greens were a little "spongy" and wet in places - but - they have evidently recovered well from the double aeration they got this Spring. High shots hit the green and stuck today! Back-side (our front side) sand traps were much much too wet. And I oughta know - I was in five of 'em today. I will definitely be back! Oh - and as he said - I got to play with our "Fearless Leader", JohnnyGK! I personally enjoyed the round a lot! I look forward to many more rounds! If you have not done so already - check out the "Find a Game" page on the GK website - hopefully this will catch on and we'll have a real golfing community here!

Played well, good conditions (Except the many unlevel tee boxes and one of the green's whole left side was roped off.). All the greens seemed to have the pins on slants or huge breaks. Pretty challenging.
But the pace was horrible on the front, almost 3 hours!!!
The price was good if you didn't take a cart, but 12 bucks a person for a cart is harsh!!! Most places charge that much for one rider, but just because you add another they double the price, what a croc!!!
I'm walking next time, and making sure to argue with anygroup ahead of me who is giving lessons to their buddy on the tee, to keep up the pace. (Yeah, you two guys, I'm coming at you next time!!)
Oh yeah, watch out for the summer campers on the practice range, they get a little loud and they often run out on the range if their ball barely dribbles out there!

I played on April 16th shortly after noon. I found the course to be challenging and in good condition. My only complaint is the pace of play at close to 5 hours on a weekday makes this the slowest course in the area. They apparently allow fivesomes of all ages and ability. A couple of my regulars were reluctant to play because they have experienced a 6 hour round here before.

I totally agree with posting below. Played 4/15/03. Got out at 7, in at 11. Fairways are extremely nice, and receptive. Greens hold well, putt true. Great place...but beware one of the starter punks. Enjoy and please repair all ball marks, not just your own.

Played 3/25, agree with TD_LA, the course is in fabulous condition. Greens are running smooth and firm. Tee boxes chewed up but nothing out of the ordinary for a course that’s played so much. Fairways and rough beautifully kept. Heard they won’t be punching the greens until May. Already booked a tee time for next week!

Played this morning, and the course is in immaculate shape, but the greens are rock hard. Despite the recent rains, the greens weren't holding anything. Would recommend hitting short and running up. Pace of play was great at 3 1/2 hours (6:00 am tee time).

We played on Sunday afternoon (12/1) with a 2:39 tee time as a threesome.

The pace at this time were very reasonable. We were able to complete 10 holes before it got too dark to play (about 5:00).

The fairways were in pretty good condition. Some parts of the fairways were either muddy or mushy. Mud on our balls were a problem when we played. We ended up playing under winter rules.

The greens were damp but they were relatively fast. But I noticed some of the greens were quite bumpy and some of the greens had a lot of holes (from ball marks). On one side of the greens there were even footprints from someone's golf shoes.

Even with some of these flaws, I would play this course again. The layout of this course is fun and enjoyable to play.

Played on Saturday morning with a 7:08 tee time. Was able to play as a twosome.

The only tees open were the front ones - all the others were being dressed. Obviously the ones being used were "ugly".

The greens, although soft, were also relatively fast. They played fairly true and could be read.

Most fairways were either waterlogged or downright swampy. In fact, a couple were so wet it was like hitting from underwater. Definitely cost a few strokes.

The pace was VERY slow. It took almost 5 hours to play 18 holes with carts!

This was my first visit to Simi and in spite of the flaws I can see this would be a great course when in shape. I plan to return.
