Was let out just before twilight today(12:50pm) and walked the course in just under 4 hours from the tips...ru kidding me for a saturday awesome pace of play...not many people on course. Greens have recovered from recent punch but are still furry for my taste. They look super healthy and green and are holding irons and wedges like darts...the recent rains probably made them a little softer...staff might need to cut them soon...actually #16 was a fast green and in good shape. Some of the fairways had a minor punch like #3 and #16 but most fairways were in good shape with enough grass coverage. The rough has grown around some of the fairways and fringes and is nasty is some spots...the sand is fluffy and in better than average shape...mostly all the tees are level and have good sod to tee your ball up on.....great layout and always a great pace of play at Riverridge.

The Lakes course is shaping up nicely. The greens are recovering well from the punching, and will be good in a week (should be playing this same course next weekend, so I'll see how they've improved).... Continue »

The Lakes course is shaping up nicely. The greens are recovering well from the punching, and will be good in a week (should be playing this same course next weekend, so I'll see how they've improved). The are suprisingly quick too, and hold iron shots well. The only bad looking green is the ninth. Bunkers are nice and fluffy, and the rough is really thick! Fairways are lush and dormant brown, and you get a good roll out. The Lakes is beautiful right now and I highly recomend it!

Played Victoria Lakes this afternoon 3rd twilight group off....pace of play was 4 hours 30 minutes....fairways are in decent to good shape and are thick enough in most spots where you can get underneath the ball and usually do not have any hardpan lies. The fairways were green in spots and doormant brown in others but like I stated were good to decent lies. The tee boxes were level for the most part and had enough grass to tee you ball up with on par 3's without a tee. Was not in any of the bunkers today but they looked well groomed with just enough sand. The greens were punched on 9/7 and have not completely healed yet....they were actually easier to hit irons into today and were holding chips very well. You need to be firm today on the greens to make putts as the ball was bouncing a little bit. The temps today were high 80's to 90 to start the day cooling off on the back nine....a much needed respite from the warmer temps inland....the design here is one to play if you have not been out here....love the 1st 4 holes and the back nine here.

Played on 8/21/10. The course is in great shape, except for one thing: ball marks on greens. Our foursome fixed about 10 to 15 (not kidding) on every single green. Jeez! Gimme a break. That is totally uncalled for. I would have yelled at the group ahead, but they were going slow enough as it was. Other than that, not being an Oxnard resident and paying a little more, it was fun and worth the haul to get there. Weather was downright cool; about 64 degrees compared to the SCV's usual 100. Oh, yeah, bring your knock down shot for the wind.

Played at twilight with a bunch of GK'ers in the LA Golf Group League. Course is fun with a neat layout. Greens rolled well and had some fun challenges with the speed. Fairways are in good shape, and seem to have more break in them than on the greens. Lots of good trouble to get into with many lakes and bunkers, which are nice and fluffy. Tee boxes are well kept. Lost a couple sleeves of balls here today. One sleeve lost on one par 3 hole, so bring a couple extra if you aren't too consistent here.

A few greens were getting thin but looked like they're trying to recover. Still like the course and will be back.

I swear there were four different kinds of grass patches. It was like they were experimenting to see what would grow in the best. This is really a great course. I sure hope they get the greens together.

Played the Lakes course this afternoon 7/19...1st twilight group off. The greens had a small verticut and were putting decently. I felt that many of the greens however were chewed up a bit and I had to fix at least 3-5 ballmarks on each green(who knows maybe it was the group ahead)....The bunkers had firm wet sand although I did not have any problems getting out of them. Tee boxes were level for the most part and had enough lush grass to tee your ball off from the grass. The fairways were the best part of the course as I did not have or see too many hardpan lies out there. Pace of play was 4 hour 15 minutes walking the back tees. Layout is strong on the Lakes course....rewards good wedge play...I'll be back...hope to see the greens in better shape next time out.

I paid my $26 and got right out Friday afternoon on the first tee without a wait and started play as a single. I walked the course from the blues in 4 hours, 5 minutes, playing 15 holes as a single. It would have been a sub 4 hour round "but for" s stop 2 the snack shop after #10, so pace of play was generally not an issue.

I started play on #1 directly in front of the maintanence ground crew, who were riding and was able to stay 1/2 a hole ahead through the front nine. Their first group caught me on #11 while I was (at) the snack stand, so I let them play through. I had just hit my tee shot when another 3some of maintanence people came up, so I invited them to join me and we played together for 3 holes. Where there was a hole that had a distance between the green and the next tee box, they rode off, quickly teed off & left to go catch their buddies. No big deal, so I again played alone for several holes. When I got to #16, the maintanence staff's two groups had joined up, and were now playing a sevensome, which they continued through #18. I guess they failed to notice me putting 15 putts on #16 green while I waited for them to vacate #17 tee, or chip back and forth across #17 tee box while they putted out on #17 green? In their defense, they didn't play slow, especially considering there were 7 of them, but I would have thought they would have exercised better judgment as course employees.
