Played this course with my wife on 8/24 as part of a "play all day" special at Paiute. We played Sun Mtn in the afternoon after playing Wolf (see review) in the morning. The wind had come up by the afternoon, so this course was much more difficult that Wolf. Everything I had heard and read said that Wolf was the more difficult of the two courses, but with the wind blowing while playing Sun Mtn, and calm while playing Wolf, this course played much longer, and much tougher. This is pretty typical Pete Dye with the railroad ties in the bunkers and all that. This course has a lot more doglegs than the Wolf course. Seems like there are very few "straight ahead" holes on the Sun Mtn. layout. But they don't favor any particular type of player. There are dogleg to the left and dogleg to the right holes which makes it fair for all playing. Again, Dye was generous with the teeboxes, giving many options to both long and short hitters. There was a little more "browning" of the fairways on Sun Mtn than on the Wolf course, so the heat of the summer plays more of a factor here. I liked this course, but will play Wolf again before playing Sun Mtn on my next visit to LV.

Played in the late afternoon on Thursday, 6/19/08, on a hot sunny day. Caught the course with almost no wind, so weather conditions were great. These courses are always in great shape, and today no exception. Very good tees, fairways, and greens - latter rolled well, not scary fast, moderately receptive. Bunkers get a lot of watering and were hardpacked and crusty. Course almost deserted and we finished in 3.5 hrs. Cart girl came by 3 times, plenty of water available. Always recommended.

Played on 2/25 in the afternoon. Course is in fair shape for this premium resort. Tee boxes were beat up and greens were like rocks cut too short i felt. Layout here is great a true desert course. No gimmicks just great choices off the tee boxes such as split fairways, doglegs, and risk and reward choices. Customer service was excellent including very friendly cart girl. If you play here in the afternoon expect the wind to blow and blow. Very challenging if it blows no blocking the wind out there in no mans land. Great course but i have seen it in better shape!!

Played early on Saturday 11/17/2007 on a cool sunny day with only light breezes. These 3 courses always seem to be in great condition this time of year. Greens were challenging – rolled great, very fast, very firm. For all but the best players, it’s defensive putting just to get the ball somewhere near the hole as it’s easy to run the ball well by at these speeds. Fairways were great. Traps were in good shape, some a little damp from morning watering. Rough is not long but the grass can grab your clubhead. Good pace with rangers evident. Ample hitting areas but rocks and waste areas if you stray too far. Plenty of water available, and cart girl came by often. Overall a great experience. Recommended.

Played this course on 5 Nov for the local cardholder rate of $69. Pace of play was on the slow side as this is the busy time of year with tourists who seem to think 5 hrs is normal to play 18 holes. The course is in fabulous shape. The greens are relatively smooth and very fast. They were receptive to even my non-performance level golf ball (Noodle). Can't overstate the quality of the conditions of this course. Outstanding maintenance all year long. The people who work here are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet (with the exception of some in the proshop). Wonderful golf experience---highly recommend.

Played course on 7/26, course was challenging from back tees, beware par 3's on this course from the back tees are all at least 200 yards or longer and are very tough. Some fairways are very narrow and there are alot of strategic bunkers in the fairways and around the greens. Fairways were in great shape, greens and tee boxes were in good shape. What I love about this course was that it was not close to any roads, freeways or hotels. Great practice area and driving range. The only thing that we did not like were that the groundscrew(workers) were everywhere on the golfcourse(my buddy was more distracted than I was). I would reccomend this course and will be back again hopefully to play the Wolf course.

Wind can really blow here, but it wasn’t a factor today – only a light breeze all day. Course was in great condition – greens smooth, fast, but receptive. Course is visually attractive – desert setting, no trees anywhere, but lots of sand and waste areas. Some forced carries and of course Pete likes to hide his flags behind bunkers. Course generally plays up and down a long gentle slope, so many holes are all uphill with plateau-type greens surrounded by mounds and collection areas. Bring a straight game and a deft putting touch. Highly recommended.
