Played Monday, July 21, 2008. What a treat. First off, the staff there are great. Dek, formerly of Bel-Air Country Club is the Starter and he was nice enough to honor our 5:50 a.m tee-time even though we arrived over 30+ minutes late (try only 2 hours of sleep the night before - so much to do in Vegas at night).

Secondly, the course is incredible for the beating it has taken in the last couple of months. While the worst of the course were the greens, the fairways and tee boxes were decent.

The best thing about this course were the replica holes from all of the great courses in Europe. What timing - we played the day after the 2008 British Open. One suggestion, buy the $5 book from the proshop and read up on each hole. It gives a short history of the hole and actually helps you play the course.

Finally, though it was only 98 degrees by 10 a.m., we were tired from the desert heat after 15 holes. This course probably plays the best in the fall.

Overall, it was worth the $80 per person we paid. Staff, course and history of each hole makes it worth the trip.

Wow, what an amazing golf course. Very challenging. Bring your game or the course will punish you. Fairways are narrow to average in width, rough is long, bunkers are deep, and greens are average in speed.

The course has replica holes of some of Europe's finest. The course is in great shape. It is a must play for any avid golfer. I will play again.

Played at 3:30PM on Thursday, 4/10/08 on a perfect golf day – sunny, warm and only light breezes at locals twilight rate of $55. I really enjoy this course because it is so unlike any of the others I commonly play – British Isles style with firm, fast fairways and greens, and some tough rough if you stray from the playing areas. Earlier posts noted problems with the greens – the first two holes had some turf problems they were patching, otherwise greens looked great and were very firm, although only medium fast. Deep bunkers with a heavy type of sand that should be avoided. Some of the rough areas had been recently cut, so the course isn’t as terrifying as it can be with BI-style rough, but still a very fun round. Cart girl came by 3 times in 3 hours; ranger available. Very few people around – breezed around in 3 hours. Recommended.

You can read all about the links holes etc. Here is what they wont tell you. Three of the greens are unplayable and they tell you to take an automatic two putt. This is apparently a somewhat permanent state. Many other greens beat up. The place is built next to a waste management facility and if you are downwind, it stinks. We showed up and saw we would be behind an outing. We were assured there would be no delayed. They rushed us out a half hour early and by the time we got to #4, there were literally 4 groups on the hole. We called the pro show but they would not give us a refund, only course credit which does no good if you are from out of town and already unhappy.

Played this course on 3/31. Went out at 2pm which was the first twilight time. The course is in the most beautiful shape I have ever seen. Everything from the tee boxes to greens were great. We went out as a fivesome, and had a fore caddie. He was great also. When you come to Las Vegas, you have to play this course. Can't wait to back and play again

Played this course on Friday, October 20th and the course was in immaculate condition. Like many, I had heard all of the hype re: this course and was surprised to see that it lived up to the type of hype this course received (as is rarely the case). From the clubhouse to the greens, this course is a must play. The bar key was friendly, attentive and accommodating. The starter was personable (I think he does stand-up at night) and the beverage cart was readily available. The tee boxes were in excellent shape and the maintenance crew must be working overtime b/c it was rare to find many dead spots on these boxes...including the par 3's. Fairways were beautifully grown and trimmed and the rough was brutal (as expected at this course). The pot bunkers lived up to their reputation and the Road Hole made you feel like a tour pro. The greens were true, quick (but not obscenely so) and rolled brilliantly. Definitely one of my best golf outings! If you have the opportunity, pony up the money (or win it in the casinos) and plan a round at Royal Links.

Played on 7/12/2006. The course is unique but the conditions are bad, the greens are totally burned out. Staff said they would have to be redone. Links type layout with the deep pot bunkers and tall rough. If you keep it on the fairway you can score. If you slice or hook it into the rough you wont find it. It was good as a one time experience but cant say I would go back.

Military Dog (USMC in case you didn't guess by the handle) recently moved to Quantico from Pendleton. Before I left though I went and played the Royal Links. WHAT A TREAT !!!!! Very unique course, really different than the usual nice expensive track in Vegas. Had the pleasure of playing during a rare storm, so overcast, gray and windy as hell, so I think I had the added bonus of playing "real" British Open conditions. Flags bending in the wind. 150 yard drives and 160 yard sand wedges were the norm. What a blast. Good yardage book with tips and history of each hole. Lipped out my birdie on the Postage Stamp hole after laying a 7 iron out about 25 yards right of green and letting mother nature guide the old Bridgestone B330 back to the pin. Staff is awesome as MAPQUEST gave me directions to the opposite side of Vegas. Staff talked me in on my cell and got me right out after a cold beer and a pep talk about the weather. If you are in Vegas go play it. Take lots of pictures and have a cold one in the pub afterwards. This is a don't miss experience.

Played here in July 2005 and was impressed by the quality of the greens. Played yesterday (7/6/06) and was disappointed in the patches of bare sand on most greens, and the grass that was there was thin and spotty. Starter said greens were in 'transition' between turf types/seasons - I'd give it at least a month before playing here. Remainder of course was in great shape, and 'British' feel is very different from most southwest courses - wiry rough, high grass along hole margins that swallows your ball, deep pot bunkers. Recommended if they get the greens in better condition.

CONDITIONS OF THE COURSE IS REALLY GOOD. GREENS IN MY OPINION STILL RECOVERING FROM AERATION(STILL LITTLE HOLES AND SAND ON THE GREEN)BUT STILL ROLL PRETTY GOOD. IF YOU DONT HIT IT IN THE BUNKERS, YOU WILL SCORE WELL.

Played on Saturday, Oct 15th. The fairways were a little shaggy and slow so it wasn't quite 'links' style golf. The greens still had quite a bit of bermuda in them from the summer so you had to be careful of the grain. They still rolled very true.

I took a caddie and walked the course. What a fantastic experience!!! There was a constant 10-15 mph breeze blowing all day which really added to the whole British Open feel. If you don't want to walk the course with a caddie, I would highly recommend enlisting a forecaddie to accompany your group. These guys know the course so well that they can steer you clear of the many hidden fairway bunkers.

Also, if you're ever thought about playing this course, plan you trip now! Our caddie told us that Walters Golf will be closing the course permanently in June 2006. They'll be bulldozing the course to build new homes.

What a shame!

Played Wednesday, July 20, at 4:30 PM, so got the twilight rate; otherwise, might not pay full freight. It was 110 degrees, so course was deserted. Interesting, different course for those used to U.S. courses - bunkers in strange places, tall rough. Bring your straight game, and check the yardage book (a good one, provided with fee, but no GPS here) for those pesky bunkers. Many are deep-faced, so its better to stay out of them! Overall course condition was very good, and greens were pristine. An enthusiastic recommendation!
