Early out with Alex326 Tuesday morning with a deal from a national reseller. So the value was there to travel in with great late winter weather. Mostly sunny breeze 42-55 degrees right in the range of our 9 hole scores.
Great fun and challenging but fair. Without water hazards I kept the same ball all around which was different to other recent rounds.

The renovation was 2007-2010 range. So the course is mature and plays well.
I usually play in early November annually. Fun to play a different time of year. The greens while challenging are not as tough as then. IMO
Alex did a dandy description of conditions. I will add that the some areas of rough is being loamed and over-seeded in the thin spots and sprouting. Growing out will provide lush greenery this spring/summer. These areas of unmarked "gur" helped me with drops from the large trees edging most all fairways a couple times. They removed thousands during renovation. Still many many left.
Home lot prep / construction on some holes as well as tree chipping, pruning seems to be a regular procedure.
A high caliber tournament ready venue that has always had a thumbs-up from me.

Played Bayonet this morning with good friend DeepSea14. Some opening statements that I left out of last week’s review of the sister course. The practice putting green in in horrible shape. It is scheduled for aeration at the end of the month. Don’t worry about it as the greens on both courses are in nice shape. Driving range is open (currently on mats) as is the practice area that consists of some sandtraps, a bona fide green and chipping area that includes an area out to about 65-70 yards on some tight lies to get you prepared for what you’re about to endure.

Bayonet is pretty much in identical shape as BlackHorse. Tee boxes were in excellent shape and the fairways while offering tight lies are in very nice condition as well. Greens at Bayonet are a bit tamer than BlackHorse. Greens all have multiple tiers and humps but not as severe as the sister course. It also helped that the pin placements today were in some friendly locations. Get on the wrong side and it can be a torture chamber trying to save bogey for sure. Greens are definitely on the firm side.

No issues with the bunkers both greenside and fairway. Both presented quality sand and consistent conditions.

Bayonet has one advantage over Blackhorse in that in doubles back to the clubhouse at the turn. Both courses offer numerous views of the ocean (see posted photos on the GK app) and elevation changes throughout.

Midweek prices are respectable but weekend prices are a bit high IMO for a regular weekly play. For a tune up round in the peninsula during a once-a-year golf trip? I’d say weekend prices are adequate. POP seemed a lot quicker than the just under 4HR actual time. Weather was brisk for sure and the beverage cart was around a few times.

Played Sunday 11/8 early (8:30) shotgun as second day of a stroke play (net) tourney.

What a difference a day makes weather wise. Saturday was cool mostly sunny breezy after a cold front pushed showers through with Friday night rain. Sunday the winds picked up out of the WNW (Fall was ushered in) It blew 20+ all day with gusts to 38+mph. Yikes some players shy away from that kind of blow.

The trees were raining golf balls! Yes the Monterey pines were giving back what they took over the summer. Nice bonus finds as those not with an identifying mark went in the bag.

POP was 5 hours due to the wind and hole everything out. The greens would fool some in my group as few times as they are slick and quick. The ball was oscillating on the green.

All course conditions excellent like other reviews concur. See Blackhorse reviews too as both courses are similar in conditions. All areas rate high and worthy of the ratings.

A few holes had tree work being done and debris on ground was free drop. A few areas between holes roped off also free drop nearest point of relief areas.

On my annual list for a reason. It's fine fine.

Rode the Blues (6641/72.2/134) in 4H, 20M with Sam and Adrian on a GN Hot Deal. 2 local brothers and really fun guys to play with! Started out so foggy you could barely see 100 yards, settled into a thick, moist overcast around 60. Really enjoyed this layout. Some nice ocean views in the distance. Up/down rolling hills, lots of large traps, huge undulating greens framed by thick, mature trees. Easily one of the 25 best courses I have ever played from a layout perspective and if anything, the slope and rating is understated. Courses conditions were good overall but mixed. Tees and fairways were the weak links. Not bad, semi lush with some poor spots on both. To their credit, the poor spots were being watered and addressed. However, not nearly as good as the rest of the course. Or as good as you would expect for a course of this caliber in this $$$ range. However, the rest of the course exceeded expectations. Rough was uniformly lush and thick. Really punitive when wet early in the day. Traps were excellent. Thick, moist sand and exceptionally well maintained. Greens were the highlight of the course. Loved these greens. Firm, medium fast and smooth. Irons would release and there were few ball marks because of their firmness. Nice carts but they do not have GPS, which would be helpful on an up/down course with doglegs. Nice all grass practice area. Friendly clubhouse staff, starter and cart attendants. Running a tight ship and right on time with their tee sheet. Saw the drink gal a couple of times. Excellent layout, tough course that is well maintained. Highly recommended.

Played here today (3/14) on the day before my GK Cup Match with Alex maximizing my trip north. I’ve played Bayonet twice before and both times it was in spectacular condition in early December so I had high expectations. Between a dry winter up here and perhaps the time of year, Bayonet was a notch below great today. Layout is still fun and with the current health scare with COVID-19, there were far fewer people around so it was a quick fun round.

Tees: good shape overall with our foursome playing the white tees given the nasty wind most of the day. No real issues here and tees seemed to be okay in almost all holes.

Fairways: better than good however grass was crispy and not nearly as lush as it could be. In terms of lies, not many issues.

Rough: in certain areas it was just as thick at Torrey. The grass was wet too from the rains and made it even tougher; humbling stuff.

Bunkers: only in two today but decent amount of sand that was throwing a bit more towards the “dirt-sand” side of the scale.

Greens: hard and grass was not very consistent. Roll was fair and just the tiniest bit bumpy. Course has been in far better shape when it comes to the greens condition-wise.

ETC: staff was friendly, nice carts but no GPS, routing can be a bit confusing as certain holes from either 18 intertwine, food at restaurant was good, well stocked pro shop, pace was excellent today, recommend when conditions improve some (rains this month should help)

Bayonet is a tough challenging track with nice views of the Monterey Bay. Greens are a tad easier than the sister course but still are very tough with a lot of undulations. Greens are firm and fast. Getting pitch shots and approach shots with long irons can be challenging. Getting a putt to roll smooth is not.

Fairways offered good roll and a decent surface to hit from. Not as lush as others in the area but no complaints. No issues with the tee boxes and as others have mentioned the sand boxes need some improvement. Not bad but a notch or two below what you would expect from a course of this quality.

Bayonet has tight fairways with thick tall pine trees lining the fairways. Course has a number of elevation changes to make the layout fun but nothing too dramatic or gimmicky.

I prefer the sister course (Black Horse) over Bayonet but that's a Ford vs Chevy thing. Both good quality and it's just a matter of preference.

Recommended and both are great warm up tracks before playing any of the Pebble courses.

The fairways were nicely manicured, tee boxes were level and not overly pitted with divots, greens weren't too fast as they were still recovering from aeration. Give it another 2 weeks and it should be back to normal.

My only real complaint would be the sand traps. For a course so close to the beach I was expecting to be in nice fluffy sand traps. Nope, they were a little hard.

I secured my round on the GolfNow app for $105. I will definitely play the course again the next time I am out that way.

Had some time to play while on vacation in Monterey and found a great deal online for Bayonet. They are holding multiple tournaments around this time so the course is dialed in. Greens were very fast and the rough was long, which makes an already difficult course, very difficult. While the course is in excellent condition and the views are great, you won't have fun if you expect to post a low score. Worth a play if you are up for a challenge.

Greetings fellow members, my first post here so please bear with me!

Bayonet was our first course on our Pebble trip. For late January, the weather couldn't have been better. Cool, crisp, combined with some clouds and sun, low 60's and cooler when the wind blew. Ok, on to the golf.

Course conditions were fine considering the rain from the previous couple of weeks. I tend to hit a higher trajectory drive so most of my drives weren't running too much. But the fairways were manicured perfectly. The attendants mentioned that Bayonet likes to "steal" golf balls so be careful on errant shots. I'm happy to say that nobody in my group lost a ball; our group's handicaps are 1, 16, 23 and 24. That makes for a lot of errant shots. I found the rough and trees punitive but fair.

What protects the course is the greens. Lots of undulation and speed. Hitting to the right spots is crucial and that's where it was challenging having never played here before. However, I felt like you could relatively see where to go (or not go) so I think that part is fair. On those occasions where we found ourselves above the hole, watch out.

For my fellow members who reside up here and get to play this on a regular basis, I envy you! The scenery, combined with pristine playing conditions, what else can you ask for. Price we paid wasn't too bad. We booked on GolfNow for $95 per player with a $2.49 per player booking fee. The course does offer SCGA members the NCGA rate too but it was a little higher without cart so we went with GolfNow.
