Very nice course. The starter mentioned they have their own well, which accounts for the very green conditions. The greens are excellent! They roll very true, which takes a little getting used to - but a great problem to solve. This was my first time at the course. A few holes are very similar to the Olympic club lake course which is a sweet compliment. The 16th hole being the one that comes to mind most. This is a very nice track that I'm surprised I didn't discover earlier. Pace of play was 4:15, so whole experience was good. It's the only Peter Jacobsen course I've played....so am curious now.

Played the morning of 9/5 at 10:30.

It seems like the course is in better shape since the last review but it's still a little rough on close inspection. The greens have healed from aeration but still show signs of aeration holes. It doesn't affect the roll but it does look a little strange. Several greens are also pretty thin and vary in how they react to chip shots. Number 16 was extra fuzzy and hadn't been cut as recently as the other greens. This green is tucked among some trees and I'm thinking it doesn't as much sun as the rest of them.
Fairways were spotty overall. 60-70% of the time you get solid lies and coverage but the remaining 30-40% were a bit thin and the ball would sit down in between fairway patches.
Rough had similar coverage as the fairways, just an inch longer. Not bad at all though.
Bunkers were pretty powdery, but the one lie I had greenside was very good.
Tee boxes were chewed on the par 3s and bumpy on the other holes. Most could use some TLC to bring them back up to par.

Overall the course is a bit rough around the edges, and certainly not worth the normal rates, but it is still a fantastic track if a discounted rate is found. Hopefully some rain hits this winter and gives the course some much needed water.

For a premium course it is in terrible shape. We had scheduled a tournament and was not informed they were punching and sanding the greens. the course had not been mowed in a while and the tee boxes were torn up. Not worth the green fees. Have enjoyed this course in the past but they need to do a lot of work. Avoid this course for the next couple months until they figure out how to run and maintain a premium course.

Played with Queen WedgeWood on 4/15. Great pace of play of 3 hrs 15 minutes. Course is in good condition.

Tee boxes could have some work done as they becoming un-level and crowned.

Fairways were good to very good with only couple of bare spots.

Bunkers were good to very good , I was only in one bunker and it had plenty of sand and was groomed.

Putting greens were still recovering from being punched and sanded couple of weeks ago and will be good to very , good in couple of weeks. Speed of greens were slow 6 - 7 but should speed up and the have recovered.

Holes 14 - 18 are my favorites fun to play in beautiful setting.

Pro shop folks are top shelf and very friendly. Worth the greens fees.

Played 11/29 at 9:00 to cash in my free round voucher.

Really fun golf course with solid conditioning all around. Fairways and rough were very good and I barely noticed any burned out patches, just lots of green. Tee boxes were level and a few appeared to have been punched in the past month. Bunkers were excellent. Most of the greens were in good shape but I did notice that a few on the back nine were thin due to being heavily shaded by the surrounding trees. The dirt seemed to crumble apart when you repaired ball marks because the roots of the grass were so shallow. Other than that, the course was great and it is probably my second favorite layout in the area behind La Purisima.

Final round of the trip was yesterday at Cypress Ridge. First off at twilight 1:30pm, $57 w/cart. Have always wanted to play here and was glad to finally get out and play. Was very windy/chilly when we teed off and remained that way most of the day. Course conditions were good to very good with the highlight by far being the greens. LIGHTNING fast and pure. Must be what it's like for the pros. Pro shop said they were cut and rolled that morning and rolling at 12. I think they were even faster than that in reality. Needless to say putting was fun but a real challenge.

Fairways and rough were mostly lush with some clearly marked areas of GUR. Other areas were soggy from over watering but not too bad. Bunkers had plenty of soft sand, almost too much as a lot of balls in our group plugged today. Tees were lush and level with some divot damage on the Par 3's.

The layout of the course is very enjoyable. There are a good variety of holes that include elevation changes, doglegs, short, long, wide and narrow. Really makes you think your way around the course. Being able to work the ball is a great advantage here. We really enjoyed the round even though the course kicked our behinds! Will return soon!

Played Cypress Ridge as the second round of our Saturday, 6/29/13, of a Paso Robles area golf trip weekend, after Monarch Dunes in the morning. Paid the $57 senior rate at 2:20 pm, getting out behind a tournament and finishing in 4:40. The course was very enjoyable, although less interesting than MD, with challenging elevation changes on the front nine. Large trees are more in play here, esp. on the back 9. Greens were smaller than MD, held shots and rolled well at medium-fast speed; with less undulation than MD. We had good lies in the fairways, bunkers and tees were in good shape, and rough was consistent at ~2”.

Recommended.

The first course on my annual trip to Monterey and my second time playing here. Course is a little difficult to find but that can be a good thing in that it's rarely packed here. Played here 12/7 and the course conditions were excellent. We got lucky in playing on the one weekend were it didn't rain. The course (and area) had received a serious soaking the weekend before and the course did not show it. It was green all over with almost no dry spots anywhere. The tee-boxes were great and I was happy to see they offered a combo set of tee markers on the scorecard. There are plenty of interesting holes on this course and I personally enjoyed the front 9 more than the back nine but there isn't a single hole on the course where you feel bored. The greens as always are in my opinion the gem on the course. They run incredibly fast and they were in great condition today. We found a Hot Deal on GolfNow and that really is the way to get on this course for an amazing price, well worth the reduced green fees we payed. I highly recommend coming out here and playing a round.

As for a first timer playing Cypress Ridge I was very impressed of its lay out and conditions. Its location around a quiet neighborhood in the central California and its climate year round definitely adds to anyone's golf experience. The generous tree lined rolling fairways makes the play interesting although Mark at the pro shop tells us that the fairways were just recently aerated which explains the reason for its softness, and therefor the fairways did not run as fast as expected.

My friend (Kviser Greenskeeper.org member) and I were very impressed at the tight healthy and smooth rolling greens and its design. It was absolutely enjoyable to find such condition. The teeing grounds were just fine. The bunkers' sand were consistent in the few I was in with good quality mix.

The clubhouse is a small building where they have the pro shop, bar and a restaurant. The people there and their services in all three were just fine, not to mention their food was very good with many appetizing selections from tri-tip to BLT sandwiches. "Don't miss out on the home potato chips!"

Everything about this place is just fine for a golfer looking to have a great round and an a good experience. We will definitely be back!
