We played here on Monday, November 24 for my birthday. Course is in great condition. Fairways were lush and green. The greens had tiny punch holes as they were recovering from recent tournament last weekend. We had a caddy at $75/person plus tip, which helped play a lot. It was nice to have someone help spot your ball, give you distances to trouble or to the green, and rake the bunkers for you. It took us just over 4 1/2 hours to play 18 holes with a 10:20 am tee time. There were course marshals pushing speed of play (they want players to finish 18 holes in 4 1/2 hours).

The bunkers here were a little heavier than what I'm used to in So Cal. You need to hit the ball a little bit harder to get out. This is not an easy course to play. Was it worth the $495 green fee? No, but the experience is priceless.

Easier than Spyglass, but very challenging and beautiful. No way worth green fee, but I'm glad I played it once- we were very satisfied with course, service, and memories.

Played July 2, 2008. Little or no wind. A little foggy, but not affecting play. We had heard about how the weather affects play, but that didn't happen to us.

Played July 2, 2008. Little or no wind. A little foggy, but not affecting play. We had heard about how the weather affects play, but that didn't happen to us.

It was exactly like the pictures and the tv images, except for the bulldozers and maintenance workers setting up for the 2010 US Open. If you didn't think too much, you'd think that it's just another golf course with tee boxes and greens. But the history and the aura and the experience make Pebble Beach a course that every fan of golf and golf history should play.

Granted, the $495 greens fee is prohibitive, but the word is that you don't have to stay at the resort or flash Benjamins to get a tee time these days. Apparently, our economy in 2008 is so bad that Pebble Beach is taking walk-ons for the first time in years.

Our caddie was Jimmy, a terrific caddie. For his convenience, he moved all of our clubs into his Ping Hoofers. His advice on the course from tee to green was worth every dollar of his $75 fee. We saw two other caddies during our stay in Monterey, and Jimmy was by far the best we saw. Remarkably, he figured out most of our clubs and distances by the time we reached the third tee.

The course is in great shape, even with the work and the workers moving around. They don't get in the way of play, and they don't get in the way of the scenery. The greens at Spanish Bay were cleaner, and frankly, the scenery was prettier than that at Pebble Beach, but nothing beats putting on the same greens that Nicklaus putted on, and chipping in the same rough that Watson chipped in, and walking the same fairways that Tiger walked on.

I shot an 87 from the white tees. I probably would have shot a similar score from the golds, but I already felt enough pressure just being there, let alone playing there. I would have shot worse if it weren't for our caddie Jimmy. Frankly, the best advice I can give anyone who plays Pebble Beach is to get a good caddie and trust his advice. And bring a camera!

Played after Labor Day and the greens had just been punched so played for 1/2 price. I guess I was expecting spectacular for the money payed but I was not overly impressed. Of course we played right after the Champions tournament so there were HUGE divots in the fairways. Some of the holes had spectacular views but I can get views for free. I mean they didn't even provide a bottle of water, the wind was fierce and the guys in front of us (with caddies) should have had shovels in their hands instead of clubs. Over all a very unsatisfactory experience.

Completed my golf odessey of LaPurisima, Spyglass, and Pebble on 4/12. We got out with a 9:00 tee time. This was the crowning jewel on a great 3 days with my father as I treated him to an awesome golf adventure. PB is truely spectacular. Waking the course with a caddie is a must. This is the best way to truely enjoy the many incredible ocean, hill side, and real estate views. It is very easy to lose concentration on the golf game as you become immersed in the experince (which is not a bad thing to do). I would love to get back and make a better attempt at the golf game!! They were tearing up the rough around the #8 fairway. Our caddie told us this was requested by the USGA as a condition to getting another US Open again. The winds really started to whip up by the time we reached #6. Ended up being a 2-3 club head wind from 10 all the way to 18. Very difficult to get a time unless you stay at the lodge (non resort guests can get tee times 1 day in advance) which leads to a rather expensive round of golf. However, I can't wait to get back. Spyglass might be the better golf course, but the history, scenery, and experience of PB can't be matched.

I have been to one of the promised lands! Played one of my dream courses and stunk up the place. Sorry won't happen again. Course in great condition -- not pro conditions were the rough is waist deep -- according to a marshall. Played with a nice ocean breeze (15-25 MPH) and 65-70F with the sun shining. Greens were a little bumpy on the ocean side with some crazy breaks but rolled somewhat true. Fairways were IMMACULATE. Bunkers and I hit a few of them were good and well packed. Wind does play a factor further down the course with hole 7 and 8 being wickedly hard. Watch your ball literally stop in the wind on the land side holes when you deal with wind sweeping left to right and ahead. If I were to play this course again or advise any newbie golfer to this course it would be three things. 1. Bring a camera -- some of the most beautiful sites you will see. 2. Bring a laser range finder. Key if you don't know the course and paramount to play this target golf course. 3. Hire a caddy. You get a walking tour of the place and the added feature of their course knowlege for safe shots, breaks on the greens, and you get to walk the course like the pros. At $65 + tip it's a bargain considering the green fees. Resort is pretty couple friendly. Restaurants in the club house would be better served if they served more kid friendly food. Food there was OK, not spectacular. Try the Gallery for more kid friendly fair as well as hearty Denny style food. The views though were breathtaking. You can walk the course; just bring a camera. The Beach House/fitness spa is a good place for kids to run around and swim. Beach access as well.
