A little let down with pace of play and service. Round took 5.5 hrs. There was no cart girl after the front nine and water buckets removed. Course in great shape. I really like this layout. Greens a little bumpy in the afternoon. I imagine playing in the morning is the way to go. I got a deal online, so the value was good. At the public rate of $200, service needs to be much better.

I played on 12/13 and teed off around noon. Course wasn't busy since it was Monday but weather was low 60's so we couldn't pass it up, especially $47 deal with cart. We were told that Poppy is "dirt track" but when we got there, course was awesome. Its not an Ocean course but something you'd find it in NC. Course is up and down and through the trees. Tee shots are premium as trees come into play often if not on every hole. Greens here were tough. You better look from all 4 sides as it is very deceptive. Down hill sometimes look up hill or vice versa. My friend who's a 3 hdcp would have shot 73 if I only counted first 2 putts. He ended up shooting 80 as he 3 putted and 4 putted often. 2x he putted off the green from 20 feet. LOL. This was my 7th round on 5th day so I was tired but nevertheless it was enjoyable. Course plays super long, especially with over night rain. Play the tee that is 300 to 500 yds shorter than what you normally play is my one advice. Definitely will play again given the opportunity.

played 8/14, 2nd group off. no fog, which was a bonus. they had top dressed a handful of fairways without punching, so sandy lies on the fairways, but nothing terrible. the handful of bunkers i got into were all very thin, almost no sand. that said, rest of course is in good shape, greens are receptive, a little shaggy but rolling true. a solid track, always enjoyable. as always, golfnow makes it a good deal, comparable to ncga rate. as an aside, amusing to have the concours in town, at about 930a or so the boys with their toys started roaring through the forest. (gas...brake. gas...brake. gas...brake.) i think several trees died over the weekend from all the carbon monoxide.

Played a couple rounds at Poppy during US Open week and the course was in the best shape I can remember it ever being in the past. Truly a pleasure to play...Challanging as always, tough but fair and wonderful greens. I'd recommend playing here for anyone looking to test their games out and see how their game's really at.

Wednesday 2 Sep. 12:30 Tee, 4 ball, following numerous foursomes; round length-5hrs. Nice club atmosphere with very friendly staff throughout. Good practice facility and great F&B all very close together for easy access. Solid layout course design with enough challenge from any tee. GPS in carts with pro tips and good distance accuracy. Unusually hot day for Pebble area (85F) and a lot of the course is dry but watering is targeted perfectly. Some tees are dry and firm, but fairways, rough, and greens are lush. Greens soft and holding, mostly smooth becoming slightly bumpy over the day's play. Beautiful sand in bunkers throughout; don't worry if you enter one. Did not see a marshal but lots of drinks cart passes, plenty of water stations and restroom convenience. Worth the fee, with a deal, to play the Pebble area. Today NCGA email club rate $55 w/cart, Senior NCGA guest $65. Very easy to spend the whole day here.

course in pretty good shape, greens were reasonably fast but bumpy (much like pebble), also receptive to approach shots (big pitch marks). local knowledge definitely helps on many of the doglegs, though the GPS narrative does help (believe it when it tells it's not worth it to cut off the corner). GPS was also quite accurate to the flag (vs a handheld rangefinder).
solid course, no gimmicks, what you see is what you get. great shot values on most holes. reasonably open off the tee. great value (for norcal) for NCGA members, $90 with cart on a weekend.

So happy that I'm an NCGA member and I get to place this gem at a steep discount. Everything about this course to me is absolutely perfect. It is very challenging, but fair. If you hit a good shot, you will be rewarded, and if you hit a bad shot you will be punished but will still have a chance to play your ball. The only bad thing I can say about the course is that it should never end.

I've wanted to play this course for years, and finally got up there last Friday. SCGA members can pay $25 to be an associate member to get the same rate as the NCGA gets. I paid $80 on a Friday, which included a cart and a sleeve of Pro Vs. It was crowded, and after waiting 1 1/2 hours they let me start on the back 9, which seemed a whole lot easier than the front 9. Beautiful course in pristine condition. The only negative is that hole #1 is the hardest hole on the course. It would be nice to start off with a creampuff. Pace was fine even though it was crowded, and the marshal and cart gal came around regularly. The greens are pretty big, so just hitting greens is no guarantee of a two-putt. Overall, a great day. I'll be back.
