AB 672 (Garcia; D-Bell Gardens) has been tagged by the California Alliance for Golf (CAG) as the most damaging piece of legislation (re: golf) to come along in a generation.

It proposes to facilitate the development of California’s municipal golf courses (22% of the total courses in the state) as “affordable” housing tracts.

Also what they wanted to do to Westridge.

For more information on the SCGA's effort to provide legislative and regulatory advocacy services to its members, please visit the newly-created Governmental Affairs hub at scga.org/govt-affairs.

Was just about to post something about this too...got an email on this topic from SCGA. At what point does the concrete jungle overtake the beautification and push people out of CA?

Perhaps sooner than we think.

This would be a brutal blow for growing the game of golf in CA since the muni's are the most affordable places to play and least intimating for new players. The first round of golf I ever played on a regulation golf course was Balboa Golf Course in Encino.

This sounds horrible!

Johnny, isn't Balboa in Encino? I could be wrong... but for me it was the Harding course at Griffith park.

Go to the SCGA Governmental Affairs hub mentioned in the first post above. There is a link there that will lead you to more information about the CAG letter sent to state assembly (pretty well written) as well as a lead on where to contact your local representative.

Then voice your opinion to your representative. That's how politics works (sometimes), but you have to let them know you are out there and opposed.

I received the SCGA email today. Link copied and pasted. There are links to form letters and locating who your congress persons are (State Assembly and Senate)so you can contact them directly. You don't have to use the form letter, but it is succinct and is fairly easy to copy/paste with the appropriate information.

I think this would be of great help to the golfing community by getting rid of under-maintained and overcharging golf courses.

And you'd be the first one...and the loudest...to complain about rising prices due to the reduction in golf course inventory.

And you would once again be wrong. Jumping to conclusions again.

A course worth $35.00 charging $70.00 sucks.

Worth $35.00 according to whom, you? In case you haven't been paying attention, the golf industry...along with many others...has drastically changed over the past year, primarily due to the pandemic.

You take exception to those courses that are "under-maintained"? Then don't play there. You have an issue with the greens fees being charged by certain courses these days? Guess what...the same solution applies: play elsewhere.

To view AB672 as a solution to rid the landscape of those courses that fail to meet your 'standards' is selfish and short-sighted. And "jumping to conclusions"? Really? Your track record speaks for itself; the constant whining about course conditions and fee structures is a conmon thread that seems to show up in every one of your reviews.

I'll bet you're an absolute joy to be around at parties.
