1. Coyote Springs (An unbelievable experience. The drive from Vegas to the middle of nowhere. Being one of a handful of people on the course. The impeccable conditions. The badger that would not allow us to play a ball out of a bunker. )
2. Rams Hill (Amazing conditions. Great layout. Was my best score at the time I played it. Beautiful finishing hole)
3. Aviara (Played it once and it deserves the hype as the best course around. )
4. Torrey South (Iconic. I have been fortunate to play this course many times.)
5. Oak Quarry (A full day of golf with this course and Goose Creek. And while Goose Creek disappointed, this did not. Visually challenging course with one of the best par 3's you can play.)
6. Maderas (Another tough course, some of the best greens I played)
7. Journey at Pechanga (Great conditions, some fun elevation changes. Overall great experience)
8. Trump (I love Torrey but the amount of ocean views on pretty much every hole of this course can't be beat based on my limited experience)
9. Steele Canyon (One of the best SD courses that few people know about. Has one of the best elevated tee shots. Bit of a drive inland but gives you a reason to play all 27 holes)
10. Coronado (If people can put Los Verdes on their lists, which I do not like at all, I can put this one. One of the easiest courses to walk, which I generally do. First course I ever played)

Looking forward to seeing what Weber and Sixpez post here.

QUOTED  Finally, while I respect the fact everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, a couple things really stand out to me on people’s lists. Nickesquire prefers Maderas to the Plantation Course at Kapalua? How can that be?

Great views and the couple of holes down the hill that produce really long drives were fun @ Kapalua. But quick, is there a memorable par 3 @ Kapalua Plantation? How about a memorable par 4? The layout was nothing special "but for" the scenery. And the day I played, their Bermuda greens were probably in the bottom 20% of all courses I have ever played.

It's always nice to play a course the pro's play. However, I did not rank MOST of the courses that I have played that has hosted PGA, LPGA or Sr. Tour events in my top 10 either. IMO, while it does not offer the ocean views... Maderas has a better overall course design, MUCH better greens and is a funner course to play than Kapalua.

The goal has always been long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, hopefully straighter could be achieved more than occasionally?

I really don't want to get into a bickering match, but since you asked...

QUOTED  But quick, is there a memorable par 3 @ Kapalua Plantation?

While I admit the par threes as a whole are better at Maderas, I'd contend both No. 8 and 11 at Kapalua are memorable. No. 8 requires a precise yardage as it plays over the native area/barranca, and 11 has a stunning view playing directly toward the Pacific. No. 2 is the only other par 3, and yeah, it's a little boring.

QUOTED  How about a memorable par 4?

No. 6 or 7 (can't remember which one plays severely downhill) is really fun, and No. 17 is all-world; one of the best par 4s on the planet. No. 1 is no slouch, either.

And then Kapalua has four fantastic par 5s, too. Maderas has three good ones and one terrible one.

I respect your opinion and I enjoy Maderas, but given 10 rounds to split between the two I'd probably play 9 at Kapalua and 1 at Maderas.

QUOTED  And the day I played, their Bermuda greens were probably in the bottom 20% of all courses I have ever played.

I experienced first hand why after his first few years on tour Tiger refused to play there. For the price they charge, don't care how nice the views are, I expect good greens!

I finally gave some thought to and put my "honorable mentions" in a pecking order and made them 11-25 on this list. Kapalua currently sits @ #13 on my personal favorites list... but there are still a dozen other courses I would rather play based on current experiences.

If I played there again and the greens were above average, Kapalua could vault into my top 10. However, based on current personal experience... most of the courses I rank above it on my personal favorites list share 2 things in common... they had FAR superior greens based on my person playing experiences... and they cost less to alot less to play!

Understandable. Always a bummer when a big $ course disappoints in conditions, etc.

I'll always hate Ka'anapali because they took my $120 (back in the '90s) but failed to tell me the back two or three tee boxes were closed on every hole because the Senior TOUR was coming in about a month. The whole stupid course played about 4,500 yards.

1. Pebble Beach
2. Wentworth - played it in the middle of winter but one could still appreciate what a great design it was
3. Desert Highlands - very nice usage of minimal fairway space in desert environment
4. Kapalua Village - really miss this course - had some spectacular views - never very crowded - played 55 holes there in one day
5. Mauna Kea - liked it before the back nine became a condo development
6. Spyglass Hill
7. Sandpiper
8. Kapalua Plantation
9. La Quinta Mountain Course - holes against the mountainside are really fun and unique
10. Torrey Pines South
