1st world problems here, but I may have to chose between Quail Lodge @ $145, Poppy Hills @ $80, and Blackhorse @ $80. Any thoughts? What would be you order of play?

Blackhorse and Poppy are fantastic courses and you cant go wrong with either especially for that price id probably vote blackhorse over poppy by the slimmest of margins.

Both courses will steal your lunch money as they are very tough courses.

Quail has a lot of good reviews and (use to be or still is?) a supporter of GK.

Given your parameters:

Poppy or Blackhorse

Flip a coin Both merit a round at that rate. See which greens are in better shape after spring maintenance.

Quail is third. Only because it's green fee rate is so much higher.

Haven't played Quail but I prefer Blackhorse to Poppy just a bit.

I also have not played Quail Lodge, so cannot comment on that one.

Played both Blackhorse courses and Poppy a few weeks apart last fall. Great contrast in designs.

Both Blackhorse layouts had lush, thick rough set on rolling hills.

What rough Poppy had was lush but tame compared to Blackhorse. Flatter course and you will be playing off pine straw or in waste bunkers if you miss many fairways by more than a little there.

All had large greens that rolled really well. You have to be able to lag putt from distance on all or it's going to be a long, frustrating day.

I though both Blackhorse courses were great, really fun to play. But liked Poppy better, reminded me of Pinehurst. Both Blackhorse courses were in excellent shape when I played them. But Poppy was in immaculate shape. Worth your while to play them all, but you could not go wrong with any of your options.

The goal has always been long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, hopefully straighter could be achieved more than occasionally?
