Played this morning. Now I believe what Mark Twain said "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco". Boy was it cold here this morning. After playing the East and now the West I love both of them. They are both totally different in every way, except the elevation changes each course presents. And these elevation changes are fun and also difficult. Sr rate with cart $47 and $2 coffee which was much needed. Course was in immaculate shape from tee to green. Customer service was excellent from all encountered. The E course is par 70. W par 71. 4 par 3's but terrific length and challenge of each one. 3 par 5's and they are all long, uphill and difficult. If you thought # 17 at Westridge was a challenge these 3 are so much harder. OK with that said, the greens are all small compared to many of the courses today and fast. So having a high ball flight is a premium on this course. And 2 putts are not guaranteed. Especially if playing it for the first time. Tee boxes all level and playable. B, W, G, R for players of various skills. Fairways are not wide and they are guarded by some of the deepest rough I have seen in quite awhile. Balls just nestle down and never stay on top of the rough. Traps were not the best, in one and the sand was almost non existent. Heard many complaints from the locals I played with. POP was excellent at 3.5 H. Blue Rock Springs is a great municipal venue and I will be going back often. But only if it is warmer. If you are ever in the Vallejo area and have time to play. You should make plans to do so.

ppark81 and I played here as our second stop on a North Bay trip this week. First was a GolfMoose outing at Sonoma GC, which I will review later if it's added to the database (thanks Johnny). Speaking of GolfMoose and Mr. GK, we used the awesome two player deal for Blue Rock Springs plus a $25 gift voucher from GK, so it ended up being $12 each. We got there around 3:30 and a couple high school team groups had just gone out, but they let us jump ahead to the 3rd hole and it was wide open after that. We eventually caught a group for the last couple holes, but still a great pace under 2.5 hours.

The course was in decent shape. Pretty lush and green out here with so much rain this winter. Lots of little white flowers and clovers growing in fairways and rough and some areas maintained better than others. The softest/wettest spots tended to be a little unkempt because I'm sure they are hard to mow right now. Though it was soft throughout, it wasn't too bad and the course plays decently. It's advised to really watch your ball if it goes in the rough because you will have a hard time finding it sometimes. I was in one bunker and it was decent. Noticed some weeds popping through the surface in a few others. The greens were receptive and rolling fairly well at slow-ish speeds. They are closing tomorrow and Wednesday to aerate the West Course (East done last week), so that's why we made sure to play here today. Obviously give them a few weeks to heal up.

I had played the East Course a few years back and enjoyed it. Then, I could see parts of the West Course and thought it also looked fun. That was the case. The two courses have different characters. West is very hilly and at times quirky, but it's a fun and entertaining layout in a nice setting. I'm sure most people will prefer one course over the other, but I enjoyed both and that GolfMoose deal is fantastic.

The West Course is considered 4-5 strokes easier than the East Course. But it is still fun to play. However, the fairway conditions are not really up to par. There are many bare areas that really affect your swing. Bunkers are OK but more sand is needed. Greens are in good condition but slow. Overall it is an easy course. The toughest is #14 in the back 9, a Par 4 , dogleg right hole. The green location can not be seen from the tee box and it is easily mistaken the green on the left on #16. With trees on the right blocking the view of the green and a creek behind the trees. One must plan the tee shot carefully and land the ball in the middle of the fairway. Otherwise, getting on the green in 2 is impossible.
It is lot more fun and challenging to play the East Course than the East Course.

Getting harder and harder to find a weekend round in the bay area with good conditions and a fair price. Blue Rock West is barely decent from box to green but the greens are pretty good. Layout is ok but I like the East better. Lies are tight and sometimes bare with many uneven stances either due to the terrain or to previous winter rough weather damage. 55 bucks gets you green fee and cart. Round was 4.5 hours and could have been longer if not for group in front hilariously losing their way on Hole 14. From the fairway the hole is up the hill to the right. These guys saw another green which was a par 3 green and thought it was theirs. So somehow they shot over a forest of trees and back-roaded through it and ended up skipping one hole. Saved us some time so we decided not to tell them. Members are supposed to play only the West course and many of them have their own carts. From my limited experience, many of them were very rude and loud and impatient. We've had women profusely swear at us, one actually rammed our cart and yesterday, one twosome yelled at us on the second hole for them to play through. Geesh. My buddies like the West course but I hate it for that reason. The only time we play here is when we have a five some (we're not slow). Glad we play Harding every Wednesday!

Course was in very good condition. Greens & fairways were in good condition. Staff was very friendly. Stop at the cafe, they have a really good hamburger.

First bunker I was in was very hard - could not get through the sand, club bounced on sand. Stayed out of the bunkers the rest of the day. Bunkers were my only complaint. Pace of play was awesome for a Saturday afternoon.

Tee time: Sunday 9:30am, weather chilly and a bit breezy but it did warm up to be a pleasant day. POP was a relaxed 4:15 chillin' and b.s. ing with our Sunday 8 some with a minor backup at the 11th hole par 3. The layout is a retro metro favorite starting with a short par 4 laying up to the crest with an approach shot downhill to a smallish two tier green. After working your way up to the top of the mountain, hole 4 is a fun, elevated tee box risk reward par 4. With a big pond lining the right side of the fairway and a row of huge trees on the left and a rocky stream protecting a par 3-sized green, a big bopper could possibly go for the green (not us). Hole 13 is a downhill risk/reward deal with a dogleg left with bunkers protecting the outside of the leg and trees and sh** on the left. Better players could almost drive the green. Next hole is a unique hole requiring a well-placed tee shot at or near the pole. From there it's an uphill blind approach shot between a grove of trees left and right. If your drive is too far left, you need to layup. Too far right your o.b. or s.o.l. But today, someone forgot to check the aeration schedule. It was punched last Wednesday. If we had known that, we would have brought our Chinese Checkers set because that's how the greens literally played. We payed $13 plus $15 for the cart on a March Madness special. Nice girls at the grill took good care of us with a nice lunch afterwards. Nice day except for the greens. Btw, fairways, tee boxes etc. were decent in a muni type of way.

Played June 17 paid $55.00. Hadn't played here for months and the West course back then was the better of the two courses. But the dandelions have really taken hold of the tee boxes and fairways. The greens are ok. You can find much better deals than this but we played here because we had a fivesome. I would rather play Alameda North for the same price next time we have a fivesome.
